Review: ANAZANAUT is a time-bending audio artefact stitched together from decades of disparate sonic moments. With recordings spanning from 1984 to 2024, the techno project feels like a cosmic scrapbook-fragmented memories reborn through meticulous remixing and remastering. From the icy atmospherics of 'Voice on the Air' to the vintage grit of 'Poacher Path (Extended Mix),' these tracks vibrate with echoes of past lives stitched together by a logic only time understands. ANAZANAUT doesn't follow a linear path; it loops, folds, and bends with compelling grooves and myriad occult sounds adding character and curiosity.

Dan Andrei - "Si Un Ecou" (8:07)
Root - "Apophis" (7:36)
Clock Poets - "Galaxy" (13:45)
Review: Clock Poets returns with Surrealism, a three-track various artists exploration of minimal techno and micro-house. Dan Andrei's 'Si Un Ecou' is a stripped-back, bass-heavy roller that is simmering with tension before erupting into modulated synths. Root's 'Apophis' delivers swing-heavy micro-house with shuffling drums and growling synth textures which nod to the genre's golden era. Clock Poets' 'Galaxy' on the flip is a sprawling 14-minute live-recorded jam rich in intricate sound design to end with a classy touch. Surrealism masterfully balances moods and textures here and makes for another refined entry in the Clock Poets catalogue for lovers of thoughtful, hypnotic dance sounds.

Review: Chicago label Future Rootz is a collective of mix media DJs who all play and rework global roots, tropical bass, world electronic and Latin house. Who better to do that than Detroit's Dez Andres, a deep-diving DJ, house head and producer with Cuban roots. He goes first here with 'El Trombone', which has a signature low-end thump with sunny Latin vocals, joyous horns and florid melodies. He then slows things down with one of his trademark remixes of AfroQbano's 'El Bucanero', which has noodling bass and poolside charm.

Review: The Alone Together Remixes EP breathes new life into Viken Arman's acclaimed 2023 album and has standout reinterpretations from Acid Pauli, Session Victim and Mano Le Tough. Session Victim first infuse 'You With Me' with their signature soul and craft a rhythmic, percussive journey. Acid Pauli blends 'You With Me' and 'Lonely Raver' into a surreal, experimental trip of modular rhythms and dreamlike textures and deep house master Mano Le Tough offers a wonderful take on 'Vibrations'. It is a pulsing club workout designed for peak-time with plenty of lush synth textures. Importantly, each remix is sympathetic to Viken's original analogue warmth.

Review: Jungle Generation is the third release on Outcast Planet, signed by its resident DJ Bakked. All the tracks are dance-floor oriented - characterized by dynamic drums, acid and trancy melodies matched together with a deep soul. Acid meets slap bass on 'Crush9', while 'Zion' describes the Kingdom of the Lamb through the mode of washy, spitty snares and glassy pads. All tunes serve to satiate, leaving you more or less chloro-filled with energy, much like the emblematic sunflower on the inner label.

Review: LEGRAM VG & Rubber Ducky Records have come together for this playful Game of Tunes series, and the third entry in it offers four more wafty tech house delights. Baldov's 'Dance Connection' is a balmy and breezy opener with some warm synth injections to soften the rickety tech beats. Sif B's 'Small World' is a bubbly cut with sci-fi motifs and Buenaguas's 'Music Or Noise?' Marries distant cosmic pads with sparky synth sequences that make for some nice colourful combinations. Alich's 'The Evidence' is the best of the lot - a pent-up, garage-tinged kicker with ass-wiggling beats and acid prickles. Pure heat.

Something About Love (4:19)
Review: Fresh from inspiring the global disco community with a tasty debut 7", Portuguese duo the Bam Jam band (AKA Pedro Teneiro and Sergio Alves) return with a similarly impressive sequel. A-side 'Keepin' On' is a genuinely killer workout - a low-slung bass guitar-propelled chunk of revivalist dancefloor disco-jazz rich in sustained organ chords, funky Clavinet licks and restless, Latin-influenced piano riffs and solos. The duo's love of memorable basslines comes to the fore once more on 'Something About Love', a more languid, picturesque and bittersweet affair in which slow, eyes-closed piano patterns and squelchy synths stretch out across a relaxed mid-tempo groove. An artist to watch in 2025 for sure.

Review: Norm Talley's Upstairs Asylum label approaches its 20th outing with more of that low-key, high-quality house tackle it has long been associated with. Black Eyes is behind the beats and opens up with the nice and lazy, low slung grooves of 'Gerry The Fish Whisperer' then 'Valley Of Sharks' gets more raw and percussive with its energy. 'Soul Fish' lands on heavy, knackered sounding kicks with soft shakers along for the ride and 'The People Want Hydro' closes down with heady pads swirls and wispy motifs that occupy mind and body as one.

Each one distils plenty of classic tropes next to a keen eye for futurism with no-nonsense sound designs and hints of bleep techno all colouring the airwaves. Review: 'Listen To Me Girl' is a previously unreleased Philadelphia recording licensed from veteran producer Emanuel Manny Campbell Jr. Although featured on a Coastal Records CD project, this marks the first vinyl release of one of The Delights' best tunes. The group consisted of four young male singers, two of whom were Manny's cousins, Keith and Ellis Hill, along with their cousin Jaime and teenage friend, and all were all aged 16-17 and from Chester, Pennsylvania. Under Manny's guidance, they recorded this soulful dancer in 1968. Despite their potential, the group never completed the planned projects and so 'Listen To Me Girl' remains a rare gem from their short-lived career.

The remixes are as soiled as the snout of a intelligence-issue mechanical mole, but Dig-it's original 'Untrodden Path' is itself wickedly textured and dextrous, with no end of classic 808s worked between percy knocks and suspended chordwork. Is there any apprehending this outlaw?

These DJ tools are crafted for the dance floor so while driven by effective house kicks, they are not mere tools. Each one brings some character, starting with 'In The Middle' with its nice finger clicks and bouncy drums and bass. 'Bouncing Back' is infused with dusty synth chords that hark back to classic US house and on the B-side, 'Deux Trois' pens with smooth, deep chords layered over a rolling conga rhythm. 'Swing My Baby' wraps things up with bouncy drums and stripped-back minimal house. Merci indeed.

Review: Something is stirring deep down beneath; after lying dormant for some time, Clone's Aqualung Series is revived in order to facilitate another round of Drexciya-related goodness. Dedicated solely to the various works of Drexciya man Gerald Donald, the Aqualung label has been used sparingly by Clone since it was established in 2009 so the arrival of a new release is somewhat surprising and, more to the point, most welcome. As the title suggests, Black Sea / Wavejumper (Aqualung Versions) presents alternate takes on the Drexciya favourites and wedged inbetween is a brilliantly grotty unreleased track in "Unknown Journey XI". Another fine Drexciya document from Clone.

Review: Swedish label Borft has been digging in its archives again to assemble another volume of what it sees as its most classic cuts. And we don't disagree with these, which are taken from releases that originally landed between 1998 and 1999. Egglady's- 'Prinsessan Och Agget 1' is well-swung and deftly dubbed out with lovely analogue drum sounds cutting through. Nikolas Rowland's 'Headspin' is another smooth one with molten chords and a firm low-end drive. 'Puffy Nipples' from Kord is a wonky number with an unhinged charm and stomping groove that will stand out in any set while Crinan closes with the classy and raw house, dub and tech fusion that is 'Suit 61'.

The first post appeared on July 31, 2021, as COVID-19 restrictions were lifted in the UK and then evolved into lectures and broader explorations of his creativity. In summer 2022, Blay Vision's 'Cammy Riddim' sparked the idea of translating Yellow Squares into songs. Collaborating with Grime MC Jammz, the pair created the track 'Yellow Square' and during a Muay Thai retreat in February 2023, Elijah expanded it into an album that is presented here and emphasised speed and spontaneity, choosing final instrumentals the day before recording. It is a cutting-edge exploration of bass, grime and trap.

The debut release is a collaboration with Hubble under the moniker Fabble and it's a fine one with three meticulously crafted tracks that manage to perfectly balance compelling rhythms with plenty of synth-based introspection. 'Catharsis' introduces a three-note Rhodes piano sequence with flowing pads and psychedelic synths and 'Donald' offers a steady 4/4 beat with sombre pads and powerful sub-bass. 'Persignis' with Italian legend Claudio PRC is the most dancefloor-driven with processed pianos creating an emotional mood and in all, this EP sets a nice high watermark for the Hoops label.

Review: Figure label head and longtime German techno titan Len Faki is back with another of his powerful two-track remix releases, and again he mixes up a favourite with a more recent gem. They come under his Hardspace alias, which sees Faki craft a deeper, more refined take that pays homage to his formative years while pushing forward with modern precision. Firstly, he reimagines Benjamin Damage's 2013 anthem '010X,' amplifying its soaring chords with jacking percussion and a beefed-up low end that turns the melodic original into a driving club weapon. On the flip, Faki dives into Aquatrax's late-'90s classic 'Stabilize' by adding a hypnotic, dub-infused loop that pulses with subtle detail and immersive energy.

Adding its own voice into the mix for the first time here is new label Ascendancy with a debut EP from Arturo Hernzama. 'Charamusca' is tough, industrial but also astral tech with stark hits and motorised bass. 'Pichikatero' is a little more loose with wonky basslines and shimmering sci-fi synths. It gets a welcome reissue here but still has plenty of lo-fi aesthetics, vinyl crackle and dusty sound that keeps it authentic rather than overly polished. Macri is a homegrown star and resident DJ for the party arm of this project and he hits a home run with this debut offering. His blazing tunes straddle the house and techno divide - but are very much not tech house - and manage to sound new and fresh but also with a direct link to the past. 'The Kicker' is a punchy house tune with a bassline to die for, then 'Breath In' is a superbly slipper electro kicker with spoken word yoga instructions, 'Control Q' is warped and cosmic techno and 'Outdoor' then stretches its left with smeared, soulful pads and cyborg beats then 'Breath Out' closes in a whirr of machines and broken beats. Inventive stuff, no doubt.

It comes from Mystery Friend who shows off a love of colourful synth work and a range of electronic grooves from disco to techno. 'Nueva Dimension' is a retro-future fusion of Italo arps and chilly 80s drums and claps. It's bright and sugary and fun. Review: Four years on from the release of the label's second missive, a rather good joint EP from Camili Gil and Rodrigo Valdivia, Spanish imprint W3ird Ltd is finally ready to drop its' third release. It comes courtesy of collaboration-loving duo ONE+1 and newcomer Cheku Garcia. Unusually, the pair's two original tracks are nestled on side B. 'La 1' is immersive, deep and surprisingly loose-limbed, with the resulting blend of machine drums, squelchy bass, chiming melodies and atmospheric chords sat somewhere between deep house and tech-house, while 'La 2' is deeper, jazzier and lightly dubbed-out - think Smallville releases and you're close. Both tracks are presented in remixed form on side A, with Steve O'Sullivan's hybrid deep house/acid house re-wire of 'La 2' being followed by Maher Daniel's glitchy and fuzzy tech-house take on 'La 1'.

Diane Luckey was born in 1960 in New Jersey and created her iconic moniker while living in NYC's East Village. Her breakout moment came after meeting director Jonathan Demme during a 1986 snowstorm; he was captivated by her demo playing in her taxi. Despite its cult status, Luckey and collaborator William Garvey remained largely overlooked but surely that will change now as they offer up five unreleased tracks that have been newly mixed from original master tapes.

Review: Cristian Sarde made a strong impression with his debut 12" on Coordinate Records back in 2020, and now he follows up with this assured drop for Outcast Planet. There's a warm, pulsing Italo slant to his productions, with 'Professional Dancer' thrumming on a bed of warm, analogue arps and tough staccato drums in a clear nod to the rich history of dance music from his homeland. 'Until My Eyes Fell On Her' offers something distinctly different, locking into a heads down, bass-led house confection for the late night, heads down crowd. 'Changes' has a more trippy, early techno twist, 'Eyesight Wisdom' takes its cues from Elecktroids and 'About Clifford' locks into a perfectly executed strain of wriggling electro weirdness for the freaks to get down low to.

Nine, the crew's latest set (and first of 2021) is every bit as incendiary, versatile and impactful as its predecessors, with the 10 collected tracks touching on everything from drowsy R&B, spoken word, classic soul and post-punk rock, to UK bass mutations, gospel, jazz-funk, Charles Stepney style excursions and hazy downtempo beats. Mixing live instrumentation, electronics and a wealth of guest vocals, Nine is a genuinely stunning, thought-provoking album full of razor-sharp lyrics and brilliantly executed musical movements.

Yevhenii Loi - "Flux Emanation" (7:39)
Review: The debut album from Ukrainian collective Noneside unites musicians and visual artists under the inspiring words of poet Taras Shevchenko, who said 'Make love, o dark-browed ones.' Framed by a painting from contemporary artist Iryna Maksymova, the music explores the trance and tech house that is destined to bring souls together on the dancefloor this summer and beyond. Shjva opens with fresh and mashed bass and sleek trance pads that are subtle but effective. Lostlojic layer sup deep, bubbly techno drums and bass with an angelic vocal tone and Saturated Color's 'Trancia' is a speedy, scuffed-up tech groove for late-night cruising. Peshka and Yevhenii Loi offer two more future-facing trance-techno fusions packed with feels.

Belly (dub) (4:23)
OSOTB (4:27)
Review: South London's Slick n Bobby arrive in time for sound system season with a heavyweight debut that marries live dub chaos and hefty low-end sonics. Their double-sided single delivers two jolts of bass-driven, earth-shattering menace, both pressed loud and built for serious systems. The A-side, 'Belly Dub,' channels Boy In Da Corner-era sino-grime with eerie precision while 'OSOTB' dives into deeper dub territory-it has fluid, hypnotic and bass-loaded rhythms no one can ignore. Both tunes are nicely gritty, raw and finely tuned for chest-rattling impact so make for a bold and blistering entry into the UK dub underground.

Rewired (5:31)
Review: Chicago born, Detroit-raised Delano Smith is one of the foundational artists of the contemporary house scenes. In 2023, he revealed he was suffering with a rare form of cancer but as this new EP title suggests, he is still here and still crafting high-grade sounds. 'When I Was Young' kicks off with his signature smoky drum loops and train travel sense of hypnosis. 'The Rush' is another heads down jam, this time marbled with eerie pads and wet clicks and claps that oil the groove while 'Rewired' shuts down with real late night delicacy and evocative minimalism.

Review: Cleo Sol's long-promised debut album, which hit record stores in mid-2020, was a genuinely impressive set: a fine collection of soft-focus jazz, neo-soul and R&B songs that did a great job in showcasing her talents as both a singer and songwriter. Inspired in part by Sol's experiences as a new mother, it's another superb collection of deliciously sweet and soulful songs that should resonate far beyond Sol's growing band of fans. Musically sparse but detailed - think shuffling acoustic guitars, languid beats, ear-catching electronic melodies, twinkling painos and sumptupus bass - Mother is perhaps a more obviously "neo-soul"-themed effort than its predecessor, but that's no bad thing. It has the feel of an album that will be considered a British soul classic in years to come.

Son Palenque - "A Pila El Arroz" (Sound Culture remix) (3:58)
Tropical Scenes (Afroqbano remix) (4:07)
Review: Windy City collective Future Rootz are all about mixing up worldly electronic sounds, Latin, tropical bass and global jazz. This second volume in their new series does just that with two expressive remixes of iconic Afro-Colombian tracks. On Side A, Sound Culture delivers a modern take on Son Palenque's legendary 'A Pila el Arroz,' which was originally composed by Justo Valdez for Palenque Records. He infuses it with fresh and bubbly bass and hypnotic vocal chants. On side-B, Afroqbano reimagines 'Tropical Scenes' by adding a vibrant, rhythm-heavy twist to the original that sympathetically blends traditional Afro-Colombian sounds with electronic influences into a wiggling bit of irresistible and sunny global fusion.

Review: It's an Oakland thing! Soulox & Soeneido's 2023 Future Retro release enjoys a re-up in all its ravey glory. A real homage to these cuts takes us back to that golden era crossover point between hardcore and jungle. Big pads. Bigger rushes. 'Lavish' lives up to its name in feels, drums and arrangement. A timeless corker. Soeneido's original has a chimey/Horizons feel as it builds up and hurls you into its own universe. Elsewhere Soulox's 'Dizzy' takes us even deeper for a laid back, sensual finale.

Review: Bristol's vinyl purists Sex Tapes From Mars continues its journey through the underground with the latest EP from Suburbia main man Cam Stockman. This four-track release is a raw and hypnotic dive into vintage analogue synthesis, acid-soaked basslines and sultry vocal hooks. Stockman shows he is unafraid to push into new relays here as he mixes up classic and contemporary sounds. 'Dreams In The RS' is turbo-tech with charming melodies, 'Chicktikka' brings lithe broken beats and cosmic rays and 'Useless' brings some twitchy acid playfulness before 'The Acceptance Speech' is a more whacked out deep house joint sent back from the future.

This deep, mid-tempo Afro house track features Sierra Leonean legend Sorie Kondi who tells a poignant story of how the government used his image on newly printed currency without consent and left him uncompensated and struggling in Freetown. A modern protest anthem blending Afro beat and world music influences, it's also a dance floor-ready disco track. The EP includes remixes in the form of a slow disco dub, an amapiano remix by Sweatson Klank and an Afro future dub by Will LV.

Review: Concrete club resident Sweely is fast becoming one of France's most talked-about DJ/producers. The hype is partly based on his club-rocking skills, but also on the quality of his on-point productions. This latest excursion on Lobster Theremin is shamelessly floor-friendly in tone, with the young Frenchman effortlessly joining the dots between acid house, bass-heavy UK house and garage, and more soulful U.S deep house flavours. Check, in particular, the throbbing, lo-fi bounce of "You Don't Really Want Me", where ragged acid lines and soulful vocal samples wrap around a bustling groove, and the bombastic, breakbeat-driven peak-time assault that is "Stronger Than Me". Elsewhere, he finds time to flit between TB-303 abuse and Rhodes playing on "Acid City" and indulges his love of blazed, hip-hop style beatmaking via closer "You Do".

Review: London-based Tokyo Riddim Band is a fusion of cultures, uniting three generations of Japanese female musicians with London's eclectic soundscape. Their vibrant performances merge reggae drums, funky basslines, and City Pop guitar, all live and dubbed-out on stage, creating a cultural phenomenon in the reggae scene. Following their debut single's success, "Denshi Lenzi," Tokyo Riddim Band presents "Canoe Boy," a hypnotic Japanese new wave reggae track. Originally penned by Japanese punk rock pioneer PANTA in 1980 for Tomoko Kuwae's album, this gem makes its single debut now. Dubby and funky, Tokyo Riddim Band's rendition, enhanced by Prince Fatty's dubwise touch, features siren machines, extended solos, and a groovy outro.

Review: Hailing from Tokyo, Satoshi Tomiie emerged in the New York scene after Frankie Knuckles discovered him and his debut record, 'Tears' in 1989, was co-produced with Knuckles and featured Robert Owens. It is a dance music classic and as part of Def Mix Productions with David Morales, Satoshi crafted iconic 1990s remixes for artists like Madonna, Mariah Carey, and Inner City. Here collaborating with Ibiza's Tuccillo, Satoshi created 'Delta Dubs', a live, one-take dub house project recorded on a Soundcraft Delta desk. This tribute to dub's pioneers reimagines the essence of dub with a futuristic twist that lands courtesy of 20/20 Vision.

Review: Both tracks on this crucial new drop from Duke share a common theme of love and harmony, which were of course the cornerstones of reggae and part of the reason it has such an enduring appeal as the universal need for compassion and unity has never diminished. In fact, it might be more needed now than ever. First, 'Peace & Love' by U-Roy, The Jamaicans, and Tommy McCook & The Supersonics is a timeless cut with U-Roy's toasting sat next to horn-driven rhythms that were first released in the 1970s. Similarly, Tommy McCook & The Supersonics' "The World Needs Love" captures the essence of70s reggae, with McCook's smooth saxophone leading the instrumental arrangement.

Here the imprint lands on vinyl for the first time via a compilation showcasing the best of their "digi" releases so far. There's predictably plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, from the lightly disco-tinged deep house colour of TeteDe La Course's 'The Light (Soulful Trip Mix)' and ELTE's Soundstream-esque disco-house looper 'Love Will Shine', to the Dave Lee style beefed-up disco revivalism of Katermurr's 'Beautiful Spirit' and the trance-meets-Italodance surge of Alistair Lane's 'Hypnodance'.

From: Disco To: Disco (Tiefschwarz remix) (7:47)
Review: During the late '90s and early 2000s, Whirlpool Productions - a Cologne-based outfit whose members included exiled Californian Eric D Clark and future Kompakt regular Justus Kohncke - delivered a string of killer 12" singles that blurred the boundaries between micro-house, deep house, disco and Italo. Their greatest dancefloor hit was undoubtedly 1996's 'From Disco To Disco', a freewheeling affair that featured improvised vocals and electric piano motifs over a throbbing, Italo-disco style bassline and sturdy house beats. This timely reissue pairs a remastered version of the band's original mix with a later Tiefschwarz remix that's more druggy, undeniably heavier and laden with additional pots-and-pans percussion. It's a fine rework that compliments the untouchable original mix.

Review: It's 20 up for Positive Pay For Japan, who have got a wealth of funky 7"s out this month alone. It comes from Milton Wright, a big presence on the Miami soul scene throughout the 1970s. He was one of the many siblings in the Wright family alongside Betty, Phillip, Charles and Jeanette and also served as a justice on the Boston Municipal Court from 1998 to 2004. This 45 serves up 'Let's Take A Break,' a slow motion and deeply funky number with poignant bass notes and Milton's stylish vocals up top next to plenty of big horns. The party picks up with 'You Like To Dance,' a brighter tune with a positive vibration.

Wulf n Bear's 'Raptures of the Deep' is up next and was first recorded in 1995 at Hopefield Farm studio and went on to help establish 20/20 Vision on the global stage. Garnering praise from Detroit and Chicago legends like Stacey Pullen and Derrick Carter, it is considered one of the first tech-house records and blends Detroit techno with house beats anyone who has heard Ralph Lawson and Huggy play will recognise. This edition includes remastered tracks, original artwork, a rare dub version plus the best bit - Craig Richards' remix.
