  1. Adriatique - "Patterns Of Eternity" (Sebastian Mullaert remix) (13:34)
  2. Stereocalypse - "Lace Star" (Siamese Soundsystem remix) (6:55)
  3. Luca Ballerini - "Amore & Psiche II" (Eduardo De La Calle remix) (7:11)
Review: Two years have passed since Adriatique founded the Siamese label. Naturally, the Zurich duo has decided the time is right to get some fresh remixes of classic cuts from the imprint's rapidly expanding catalogue. Fittingly, the A-side is taken up by Sebastian Mullaert's fine rework of Adriatique's "Patterns of Eternity", which maintains a fine balance between early morning deep techno hypnotism and drifting late night melodiousness. The Siamese Soundsystem's rework of Stereocalypse's "Lace Star" is a much more rolling techno workout, rich in bubbly electronic motifs and ear-catching shaker percussion, while Eduardo De La Calle's version of Luca Ballerini's "Amore & Psiche II" is deep, low-slung and mesmerizing.

  1. Agrippa - "U C Me" (6:27)
  2. Henry Greenleaf - "In Same" (5:23)
  3. Meta - "Fault Line" (6:51)
Review: Agrippa builds on his previous on the likes of Version and Brotherhood Sound System and takes to the runway with his brand new imprint Par Avion. Flight path set to the darkest corner of the known bass universe as the captain lays down another brutal fractured neck snapper in the form of "U C Me", label mate and compadre Henry Greenleaf flips the coin for a more intergalactic mission before Meta brings us right down to earth with the techno shatter jam "Fault Line" that feels like an appropriately venomous and paranoid update on Woolford's classic "Erotic Discourse". Ready for take off?

Review: Credo boss Alex Bau returns with some deep dub techno excursions on the fittingly titled Echo Echo imprint - a new Echocord sublabel. With previous releases on top labels like CLR, Kombination Research and Cocoon - you can trust this veteran A.M. specialist. From the glacial and cavernous "Clouds" and the introspective dub of "Contour" nailing that Basic Channel vibe of old. On the flip, we get two versions of "Zenstory". The first (prelude) being a chilling ambient version while the second is a stripped back epic that builds full of tension and suspense throughout.

  4. Fidel Gastro (5:51)
Review: Bergsonist is Moroccan born and NYC based Selwa Abd, who has had releases on Styles Upon Styles, Borft and Angoisse amongst others. Her uncompromising and otherworldly creations on the Solyaris EP are an ode to the present broken education system that allowed her to sustain her dreams in New York. As an immigrant, she felt uncertain of the future and was able to channel all that anxiety through music, during her time of studies. Tough and gutural lo-fi techno workouts here, like on dusty warehouse jams "Conflict In Yemen" or the title track, to the rusty tunnel vision of "Former Alien Who Has Been Naturalized As A US Citizen" that was well tripped out.

  4. Ruff (5:27)
Review: Aside from being a killer producer of retro-futurist hardcore and revivalist jungle, Borai also happens to be Bristol's most dapper man (few others can rock a vintage 1980s McLaren formula one leather jacket with the same panache). Here he returns to London label Them with a quartet of suitably heavyweight dancefloor workouts. The producer's love of rave-era tape pack vocal samples resurfaces on the bustling, sub-heavy madness of 14- BPM jungle A-side cuts "Dub Fi Dub" and the fizzing "Teefa". On the flip, the sometime Hotline Recordings artist changes tack, first serving up a throbbing chunk of acid techno insanity before diving headfirst into weighty but party-starting dubstep pastures on killer closer "Ruff".

  1. Pandora (6:53)
  2. Pandora (Olivier Giacomotto remix) (7:23)
  3. Serpent (6:27)
Review: Techno producer Ilija Djokovic (no relation to tennis ace Novac, though they are both Serbian) joined Terminal M last year after impressing with digital-only singles on Soundspace and Phobiq. Pandora's Box is his second missive for Monika Kruse's label and boasts a trio of heavyweight rubs. The main attraction is undoubtedly the post-apocalyptic intensity of "Pandora", where paranoid electronic motifs, ghostly chords and melancholic melodies slowly rise above a suitably slamming, redlined rhythm track. That cut is dragged further towards intoxicating tribal techno territory by remixer Olivier Giacomotto, before Djokovic returns with the no-nonsense, nightmarish dark techno box jam "Serpent".

  5. Dro (Isa Bel remix) (7:06)
Review: While it may look like an EP or mini-album, the team at Set Theory Records insist that Dro is in fact the label's first full-length. It comes from the previously unheard German Affair, a Barcelona-based duo comprising producers Inakito & Derobla. The duo serves up two original productions: a throbbing, arpeggio-driven thumper smothered in fuzzy industrial electronics and creepy cymbals entitled "Dro", and the metallic, otherworldly cyber-funk of "Greyr". The title track comes is remixed three times. First, Komatssu re-imagines it as an icy chunk of "Artificial Intelligence"-era IDM, before Pedro Vian turns it into a rolling deep acid bubbler and Isa:Bel serves up a version drenched in reverb and delay that sits somewhere between icy electro and hypnotic dub techno.

La Piscine (limited coloured vinyl 12" Nachpressung)
Cat: MW 041. Rel: 07 Aug 18
  1. La Piscine (14:13)
  2. Calling Somewhere (14:52)
Review: Fans of mechanical techno-not-techno sounds will be all over Minimal Wave's latest transmission from 80s French underground heroes In Aeternam Vale. Having reissued several essential lost works from the outfit last year, most notably the proto-Sandwell sound of "Highway Dark Veins", Veronica Vasicka delivers another two tracks from the vault. Stylistically mirroring that previous two track release the title track is an equally brilliant synth-techno beast which could easily pass for a Function track today, while B-side "Calling Somewhere" sounds like a cold wave version of proto-halfstep. Needless to say, the fact that these tracks are 22 years old literally left us speechless.

Review: Hot on the heels of his Tectonic EP, Berlin-based Brit Hugo continues on his expedition into more broken territories with five fractured forays on E-Beamz. "Where Your Body Begins" sets the tone with menacing bass tones blasting beneath slow jungle rolls before being countered by the Bicep-flexing drifter "The Only Constant Is Change". Deeper again; "Alien Shapes" is the teeth grinder of the set with its rasping, rising venomous acid and brittle breaks, "Circles" re-soothes our soul with a rippling beatless floatation sensation and "Faith In Chaos" throws us in a big bubbly bath of acid for a final hoorah. Hugo Massive more like...

Review: Since debuting with a thought-provoking cassette on Where To Now back in 2015, Melly has brought his brand of off-kilter electronics to Jheri Tracks and, under the DJ Apres Ski alias, Major Problems. Here he returns to the Dublin imprint with a quartet of cuts that are dreamy, head-in-the-clouds melodiousness at the heart of the action. There's something wonderfully blissful and thrillingly positive about near beat-free opener "Shrubbery" - a tropical ambient head-rush of epic proportions - while "Health Is Wealth" is a far more rough-and-ready, forthright take on dub techno than you'd expect. Melly doffs a cap to the current obsession with breakbeat-driven dream house revisionism on B-side opener "The Beds", before rolling something sizeable and diving into ambient dub waters on shimmering closer "Mineral Water".

Review: Bursting onto the scene with some impressive releases on Hotflush and Permanent Vacation, Danielle Caldelas aka Terr presents a brand new thriller on Correspondant. The Neuromancer EP features yet more of her trademark dark romantic techno, with influences of EBM, synth-pop and house. From the sultry and euphoric title track that's packed full of soaring synths, rushy arpeggios and a distinct retro flair throughout, the falling acid of "Multiverse" with its unashamed Kraftwerk influence or the roaring and neon-lit remix by New York by way of Dublin's Krystal Klear on the flip.

  1. TX Connect - "Ghetto 214" (8:27)
  2. R-Computrax - "303" (10:37)
Review: Gavin Guthrie AKA TX Connect has released productions over the last 5 years on some of the most prominent labels in the game, including L.I.E.S., Dixon Avenue Basement Jams & Creme Organization. Now with his own label T.R.U., it's time for another of his following his track "Haddonfield, IL Pt. 2" on TRUHWN01.

TX Connect's Ghetto 214 is a Chicago-style jack track Gavin has become known for. Ghetto 214 harkens back to Robert Armani's Circus Bells and the glory days of Dance Mania. It starts innocently enough but builds into a frenetic track that ultimately destroys you with manic claps and sirens.

Newcomer R-Computrax, hailing from Dallas Texas no doubt, provides the B-side with 303, another early Chicago-inspired jack track that has elements of Master C+J synths but takes it to another level with a scathing bass backed with a spoken-word track. Insane? Maybe.

  4. French Stu
Review: After a strong run of releases between 2013 and 2014 that saw the likes of Hakim Murphy and Mark Forshaw grace their grooves, III Rivers are back in action with a sterling new effort from apparent debutant producer Dane Weaver. The techno foundations of the label sound as strong as ever on "Atom Soup," which charges ahead on firm but malleable arpeggios with an acidic undertone. "In The Clear" is a more wriggly affair with a swung groove and plenty of off kilter delights for wonkier dancefloors. "A Brief Trip To Space" opens up the B side with some delightful anchorless tones, and then "French Stu" burrows deep into the outer realm of machine manipulation in a gritty demonstration of leftfield techno.

Review: Conforce's Silent Harbour project has been relatively dormant since its inception in 2012, awakening only once with an album for Deep Sound Channel, back in 2015. It's clear that this is a space in which Boris Bunnik's mind can travel and expand, allowing him to roam more freely on the LP format. In fact, this new album for Denmark's Echocord, Noctiluca, is a sparse and explorative piece of work that sees the artist go way deeper than any of his work under the multitude of aliases through which he releases music. Using dub techno as the main ingredient, these six experiments go from the very abstract to the very concrete, jumping between ambient and techno on a constant basis. While the album's cold exterior helps the tracks to portray a strong sense of melancholia, there is something warm and alluring about its sounds and how they mould into one another. In all honesty, it's dub-techno like we've never heard it before. More Silent Harbour, please...

Review: A new Donato Dozzy album is more than news for us, it's a celebration. Apart from the fact that Italy's contemporary techno king is one of our favourite dance music producers, he is also extremely suited to the LP format. Each and every album the Dozzy has put out has, in some way or another, been and remained relevant even years after its release. Much in the same way, his debut alum for Berlin's mythical Tresor comes in the shape of Filo Loves Acid, an eight-track showdown of the man's magic on the 303. Moreover, unlike his previous albums, where space and ambience was significantly explored, this LP revels in its focus of the dancefloor while still retaining a vision and a narrative throughout. A crisp, magnificent production is accompanied by rolling drum machine beats, infinite acid loops, and Dozzy trademark sound. Quality.

Review: Prolific sound designer and sometime dub techno producer Sraunus (real name Paulius Markutis) returns to Greyscale with the sequel to last year's Atmospheric Insomnia. As the title suggests, Equal Melodies is a tuneful and mostly positive affair, with Markutis ambling his way through a series of deep, melodious and trippy soundscapes rich in fluttering, colourful electronics, starburst chords, undulating dub techno rhythms, tropical sound effects and meandering synthesizer lead lines. While there's enough low-end grunt to suggest that some tracks may stand up to club plays - either at dedicated dub techno nights, or in atmospheric warm-up sets - the album's main attraction is its home listening-friendly feel. It's the sort of set we would happily get lost in, and there's no greater recommendation than that.
