His stripped-down yet powerful releases on co-run label Arsenik, often in collaboration with live partner Kuf, have always proven his skills in the realm of straightforward yet evocative techno. The Revival Recordings 12" is another Dold doozy with five tracks that span from the hypnotic 'Work Me' and 'Solid Solitude' to the darker and more philosophical 'Insight.' Blending acid beats and metallic textures in this way means Dold's work again impresses and more importantly, is damn effective in the club.

Review: Acquit Records are setting out on an ambitious one, presenting their latest foray into vinyl releasing with this incredible new LP from Arbilla. Both label and artist move incredibly low-key, but unearthing the info was worth it. Arbilla aka. Phil Robertson and his own adjacent imprint, Xistence Records, follows up prior greats such as the 'Movement' EP with this full-length, which takes after Detroit techno and catapults it to ever further cosmic reaches. Zooming out to the macro-point of galaxy filaments and Bootes Voids, we begin with the brukky opus '3500 Miles Away From Detroit' before seguing into the percussive workouts of 'Brighter Swallow' and 'Mecca'. A real sense of expanse is given off from the otherwise raw and up-close analogue sound; the cosmos is, of course, airtight.

Review: Phenomena is a rather incredible 39th full-length album from the pioneering Lithuanian dub techno label Greyscale. Like all those that went before it, it is a captivating excursion into cavernous sounds. In particular, this one delves into the wonders of nature - meteor streams and starling murmurations - and flips them into immersive soundscapes. In mixing up vintage and contemporary styles, Basicnoise navigates deep emotional depths with technical finesse. 'Midnight Dub' has lush and organic chord progressions, 'Sakura Season' pays homage to Detroit techno's smooth, futuristic spirit and 'Reduxtion II' delivers crisp production and powerful frequencies. These are just some standouts along the way of this profound musical odyssey.

Review: Maelstrom returns to Central Processing Unit for his fourth outing, and this time he's dropping his longest release yet. French electro mainstay Joan-Mael Peneau, known to many as Maelstrom, has been a fixture on the scene since the early 2000s, and he brings every ounce of that experience to his new LP, The FM Tapes. Spanning 11 tracks, this album is a masterclass in precision, confidence, and control. From the opening moments of 'Ondes Courtes', Maelstrom makes it clear that he's not here to mess around. The track offers a dark, brooding take on electro, with tight, shuffling beats and expertly layered synth work that sets the tone for what's to come. Tracks like 'Alt50ser' follow, pushing forward with mechanical rhythms and a frenetic energy that could only come from an artist with such a seasoned hand. 'La Vie Sociale Des Sons' showcases his knack for combining complex soundscapes with raw, dancefloor-ready energy, blending heavy basslines with shimmering top-end details. The album's centrepiece, 'Res 06 (feat. Fasme)', serves as a standout, bringing in an almost cinematic quality. The beats remain hard and driving, but there's a subtle elegance in the way Maelstrom weaves textures around them, creating something that feels both intense and intricate. Yet, despite all the technical wizardry, The FM Tapes never feels cold or clinical. Review: Throughout the past few years, there's been a trend of producers in and around the deep techno scene, upping (or downing) tempo and producing tracks heavily influenced by drum & bass. Having previously released experiments from techno royalty Donato Dozzy, Mike Parker & Brendon Moeller, Samurai Music now release Urmah, the first full LP solely focused on this sound by legendary Spanish producer Juan Rico aka Reeko/Architectural. He's explored this sound before, having previously released 2 excellent EPs on Samurai. 'Urmah 1' is a halftime slow burner with whispering vocals throughout. 'Urmah 2' introduces breaks that float in halfway through the track creating a feeling of depth. 'Umrah 3' is a loopy percussive workout that sounds like a far off ritual in an abandoned forest. 'Umrah 4' is the heaviest cut on the LP, with bass stabs reminiscent of the minimal drum & bass sounds of Ruffhouse, Pessimist and the UVB-76 crew. 'Umrah 5' is another fine percussive workout and the LP closes with 'Umrah 6', a nice bit of spacey, aquatic ambient.Recommended for fans of ASC's Auxiliary label, Sam KDC and Spazio Disponibile's more leftfield releases.

Review: "Decay and loneliness can serve a purpose. Depression can teach you things. To feel deep sadness also means the ability to feel profound emotions," says Stefan Vincent. The Dutch artist has a point, and based on the appropriately titled Post Melancholy, certainly knows how to make it with strange, beguiling, slightly manic but overwhelmingly captivating music. Drawing on some of the cornerstones of rave culture - breaks, electro, IDM - the record is a true journey through an emotional spectrum, often conjuring the reflective 6AM moods that we can't quite put our finger on, but associate with those warehouse moments, but then filtering this out into something more joyful, or at least lighter. Overall, it plays out like the very reason you fell in love with electronic music in the first place.

Review: Kenny Hooper is a Detroit mainstay and formerly a part of Scan7 who now makes his solo debut on Acquit Records. Review: OK EG steps up to Midgar with some brilliantly stylish deep techno. It's not so deep that momentum is lost, however: particularly the opener, 'Inversion,' is a driving cut with bouncy drum programming and nice lush dub chords. 'Heatwave' lock you into a broken rhythm with synth drones layered up top and plenty of intriguing little sound designs bring the beats alive. 'Radial' is another mind melter with phased bass and percolating drum funk and 'Peak' shuts down with a little more menacing synth texture and dystopian darkness.
