Review: The ever-charitable Needs project continues apace with another stunning cast of characters offering up their dancefloor creations to help a good cause - the environmentally-focused Cool Earth NGO. On this 12", Eris Drew delivers the uplifting breakbeat celebration of "See You In Snow", while Edward takes things deeper with the tripped out minimal house groove of "Mind Loop". D. Tiffany brings a particularly crafty approach to her own drum funk science on "Sun Trip" and Henry Hyde cools things down with the mellow, new age 2 step stylings of "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim."

Flunky - "Love Song"
Review: Any discerning deep house heads will be familiar with Yossi Amoyal's work as the head of the cultured Sushitech label, and now he steps out with a new imprint, Endell Street, alongside co-founder Nils Hess. This one is named after a busy thoroughfare in the heart of London that was home to the Eukatech record store and will be focussed on reissues of work from the Eukahouse archives. First up we some prime tech house from genre pioneer Nathan Coles who serves up a kicking and unreleased mix of the Housey Doingz classic 'Kitchen Spasm'. Then comes a garage-tinged bumper in the form of Soggy Plop's 'Hairy Scary' (Get Fucked remix) and last of all, Flunky's 'Love Song' brings low-slung sleaze.

Review: Brawther and Tristan Da Cunha's Dungeon Meat deals only in rock-solid house cuts designed for maximum club impact. Their Weapons Of Ass Destruction series is a treasure trove of such sounds and the fourth volume is another doozy: Sweely kicks off with some rubbery tripped-out tech, Frederik Anthony spins out on silky and deft percussive tech on 'Shortbacknsides' and Timmy P's 'Your Parents Are Doing It Right Kev' is a drake heavier stomper for when things get freaky. Boss Priester offers another highlight with the industrial and cosmic tech of 'Today Okay' while JAMM's 'Ignition' is more high-class weaponry.

Review: A genuine UK acid house, techno and tech-house pioneer, 'Evil' Eddie Richards boasts a catalogue rich in rare, hard-to-find and overlooked gems. The ever on-point Repeat Records, who previously offered collections of rarities by Terry Farley, Jay Tripwire and others, have spotted this - hence this first instalment of what they promise will be a series of Richards retrospectives. There's much to enjoy within the eight tracks stretched across two slabs of wax, from the rolling, deep house influenced early tech-house excellence of 'Joetwo' and the bouncy brilliance of 'Open The Red Door', to the spacey smoothness of 'Old Klang Road', the immersive early morning hypnotism of 'Heat' and the head-nodding downtempo excellence of closing cut 'Madness'.

Review: Selected Pieces from Berg Audio is a fantastic EP that features four standout tracks, each offering a distinct flavor of deep house, perfect for the dancefloor. On Side-1, Kolter kicks things off with 'What A Day,' a track that embodies deep house with its soulful build, warm atmosphere, and uplifting vibes. The clever use of a vocal sample adds an extra layer of emotion, making it an instant crowd-pleaser. Traumer follows with 'Don't Stahp,' a classy, more techy cut that still maintains deep house roots. The dubby chords inject extra depth, turning it into a smooth, dancefloor groover. Side-2 opens with Mihai Popoviciu's 'Waitin,' which features rich, soulful chords that envelop the listener, creating a laid-back yet engaging vibe. Moor closes the EP with 'Kashif,' an uptempo track that stands out with its energetic keys and undeniable party feel. Review: DJ Deep's Connected EP on Gettraum from France is a refined collection of deep house tracks that beautifully explore emotion. On Side-1, 'Sunday Loop' stands out with its melodic and groovy elements, embodying the classy house sound DJ Deep is known for. 'Cable Guy' follows with a deep, immersive vibe that pulls you in with its rich layers while 'The Third Man' rounds off the side, delivering a strong, resonant track. Side-2 brings a fresh take with Traumer's edit of 'Sunday Loop,' which amplifies the energy with a stomping house beat and lush organ keys, adding a new dimension to the original. The version of 'The Third Man' strips the track down slightly, offering a more focused yet still powerful interpretation. Connected EP is a perfect example at melodic house music that resonates on multiple levels.

Review: You can always rely on Dungeon Meat to kick out the jams and that is the case here with Julian Anthony next up to make a solid house statement. 'Dale Ale' kicks things off with a tumbling hook that sounds like someone whacking a giant metal drum, while 'Phantom Strike' brings shuffling garage energy to the beats. 'Radikal Forze' is one of those late-night jams with some mysterious pads leading you to mischief and last of all 'Z-Town' rides on rubbery kick drum loops with tripped-out pads. Heady and physical at the same time, all four of these are superb.

Review: Smart Alex is the coming together of Laurant Webb and Dave Coker of Housey Doingz and now one of their best moments gets reissued by the good folks at Sushitech. This limited 12" kicks off with 'Specially Hot' which is a powerful house track that has long been a secret weapon for Fabric residents. The original has a freaky vocal and edgy pads and the version gets more percussive. On the flip side, the deep and dubby 'Blow Your Mind' is a real classic with wet hits and subtle spoken words over percolating bass. it's a great one for a left-of-centre closer and the version is even more mind-melting with extra synth madness.

Review: The legend that is Danny Tenaglia seems to have been creatively re-energised in recent times, with last year's 'The Brooklyn Gypsy' delivering a gorgeous and celebratory blend of good-time house grooves, mazy solos and life-affirming dancefloor energy. 'Tonight', his latest missive, is another gem, presented in 'beats (intro)' and 'no beats (intro)' variations. Both takes feature many of his aural trademarks - think impeccably programmed beats, a mesmerising bassline and incredible sound design - alongside waves of awesome electric piano solos, dreamy pads and eyes-closed female vocal snippets. Over on side B, he doffs a cap to his days as Twilo resident with a deep, dark and deliciously percussive workout ('Out From Obscurity'), before ANTRANIG delivers a similarly heavy, druggy and mind-mangling take on Cevin Fisher collaboration 'Move Your Body'.

'JS-07' rolls out with deep, pillow drums and well buried sub bass that slowly sweeps you up and locks you into a state of hypnosis. 'JS-07R' on the flip side is run through with slightly more warmth and light, like beams of sun piercing the surface of an ocean and catching microscopic organisms floating on the sea bed. Review: Rawax welcomes ARAPU for a third release on the label and this time the minimal maestro taps into open-air dancing vibes with a nice organic and summery sound, but still plenty of direct grooves. 'Take It Deep Down' has dreamy vocal coos swirling up top next to soft synth patterns as the percussive beats drive down low. On the flip, 'The After' is a deep cut with rubbery, thudding kicks and organic percussion next to more smart vocal sounds that bring human emotions to the moving beats.

Review: Gideon Jackson and Eddie Richards are bona fide tech house titans who have more than helped to shape the genre since day dot and the All Rise EP sees three of their finer past glories gathered together and remastered and pressed on lovely red wax. The excellent 'Biscuit Barrel Blues' opens with exactly the sort of compelling drum work you would expect and it is imbued with some prying synths and sultry vocals. There is an irresistible glitch and dryness to 'Pull Tab 2 Open' and its smeared pads that make it perfect body music then 'Crying' (Gideon Jackson remix) brings a more heavy tech house sound with extra dub weight. Perfection.

Review: Bjarnar & Jonas's last album back in 2023 was critically well-received and now it is back in all-new form as a selection of four classy remixes. First up it is Seven Villas label boss Pablo Bolivar who gets all blissed out and paddy on 'Bara', while Merv brings some nice smeared chords to the rolling, hypnotic dub of 'Erebus'. Review: Dance newcomer Shonky debuts on Wicked Bass with 'The Way It Goes'l, an EP-length musing on means-biding and compromise. The titular opener lays down a swagged-out minimal electro-tech slinker against a hip pitched-down narration portraying the virtues of unerring calm under pressure or sameness in the face of change: a prodigal voice burrs, touting "the way I do... the way it goooes", resounding with a sturdily stylish blingy ring. A2 'Compromise' reveals equally how we'll just have to grin and bare it, though the suspenseful Italo strings and synths therein hardly let on this fact alone, instead offering a mood of boundless potential. B-siders 'Darkness Is Around' and 'Kranken Sister', meanwhile, move much more lo-fi, exposing the joyous horrors of breaking the treaties of compromise.

Review: As Syncrophone Recordings offshoot Phongramme edges towards a half century of releases, the French imprint is casting its net far and wide for inspiration. Initially dedicated to producers from within the French scene, Phonogramme now regularly showcases music by producers from further afield. Here's another, courtesy of long-serving German artist Sascha Dive. He begins in ultra-deep mode via 'My Definition of House Music', a 4am special that boasts dub-flecked synth motifs and an atmospheric spoken word vocal courtesy of hip-house mic man Mr V. 'In Real Time' is marginally brighter and sunnier whilst still sounding deep and hypnotic, while 'We Went To Africa' is a tech-tinged affair full of gentle acid lines, echoing vocal snippets and suspenseful chords. Closing cut 'Artificial Intelligence', meanwhile, is a tracky, deep tech-house excursion tailor-made for pitch-black basements.

Review: Minimal production duo Antraum are back with 'Omakase 004', their latest for the eponymous label. Through chirpy voxxes, street-slicking beats and furtive steps-down-into-the-exclusive-club, we'd've half expected this EP to have wafted up from a manhole cover in the dead of New York. Yes, this one seems to portray a world in which tech house, not modal jazz, is the sound and site of rule-flouting lasciviousness. 'Mata' fidgets away into an intuitive kind sophisti-trance, calling elegant trinkets and bespoke retro internal designs to mind. 'Dojo', meanwhile, moves ever so slightly martial-artistic, its various vocal chops and beeps resembling the various instructions and entreatments uttered by the tech house sensei.

Review: RAWAX welcomes Janeret to their artist bank, also delivering the EP 'Muba' in the process. From the entrancing, tropical greens of 'Kan' to the agri-synth undulations of 'Huk', Janeret paints a distinctively future-organic sonic picture, in which posthumans speak in monosyllabic tongues (as of the track titles) whilst biomech bots handle the entire food commodity production process, from tilling to threshing to logistics to stocking. The music here is like the minimal-tech scrimmage call of a bird of paradise to its flock, all of whom together find themselves happily locked, but still aviatory, inside one of many of these future greenhouses. 'Yubu' and 'Muba' soothe the soul further, the latter especially with its abstracted funk, its synthetic gazes outside casements, through to the world outside.

Review: The second offering from the Infrequent label comes from the assured and esteemed mini man Dubtil. This limited 12" kicks off with a silky mix of dubbed-out but paired back minimal tech drums with watery synths and loopy swirls that lock out into the moment. 'II' is clean and perfect for cruising along to thanks to the supple and succulent kicks that are oversized and delicious under the balmy synth smears. 'III' cuts loose with a more warped lead motif and snappy, militant tech house drums below and last of all 'IV' gets freaky with some bubbling and tightly programmed kick and bassline combos. Serious stuff, for sure.

Review: Back in 2022, James Burnham aka Burnski started a White sub-series of his much-hyped Instinct label and the first one sold out as quick as a flash. Now he is finally back with a follow-up that will likely do the same. This limited one-sided 12" slab of sonic filth features just one tune, but what a tune it is. '02' is a house cut with elements of garage percussion, old-school dirty bass, and even some trance-infused chords that chime with what's going on in the dance world right now. Some return horns at the breakdown really send it into overdrive and it's not hard seeing this one blow the roof off many a club this summer.

And when it keeps on serve ing up characterful sounds like this that is not likely to be changing any time soon. THB is behind this one and first up is 'Repeat This Transfer' which is denied by its charming, fat-ass bassline and deft little synth motifs which marbled a weighty deep tech groove. 'Neon Cuzza' has a garage shuffle in its percussion and another naughty retro bassline while 'Duck 2 Moog' is a jumble of percussive energy over clipped, dry beats. There is plenty of fresh personality in this EP, not least the late night jam 'Nervous Kiss', which closes in style.

It's Lemieux at the controls for four cuts of well worked dance floor dynamite. opening up is the deft, loopy, trippy sound of 'Put It Out' which is from the Villalobos school of minimalism. 'Jah' picks up the pace and is a deft, dubby sound with fizzy pads and clipped vocals adding the details. 'Back In The Day' layers up silky pads, vocoder vocals and underlapping bass into a sweeping minimal sound and last of all, 'I Leave' shuts down with a playful minimal dub sound and paranoid vocals.

This one again comes from DDrhode and opens with 'Ghoroob' which is a super nice and icy deep dub roller with smeared pads and heady ambient vibes. The dub slows things down and adds even more bottomless dub depths. 'DD2' (Sohrab dub) is a warm, peaker number but still very much a late-night and backroom jam and the Down The Rhode version of the A1 is a conscious classic with deep meaning and deeper rhythms.

Review: M.A.N.D.Y and Booka Shade's creative collaboration brought us some of the most inspired tech-house and off-kilter house anthems of the noughties, not least 'Body Language' and 'O Superman', a Laurie Anderson-sampling number that was one of the most recognisable club cuts of 2008. Here it gets a fresh vinyl pressing, with the German outfit accompanying a freshly remastered take on their original mix (A1) with various old and new reworks. The fresh Man Power revision (A2) is the standout - a slow build delight that sees the long-serving Geordie producer reach for boisterous jazz-house breaks, raw TB-303 trickery, weighty bass and tidy tech-house stabs. The EP also boasts SIS's 2020 deep tech-house rub and Robag Wruhme's brilliant 2008 minimal techno re-wire, which remains one of the German's most impactful and off-kilter revisions.

Review: Ben Bohmer's upcoming album Bloom marks a significant milestone in his musical journey, offering a reset from the pressures of his previous successes. The album, shows his growth as an artist, emphasising spontaneity and a return to his improvisational roots. The lead single, 'Best Life,' featuring Jonah, explores themes of life's fleeting nature and the importance of cherishing each moment. 'Best Life also represents a sonic departure for Bohmer, signaling his intention to break free from predefined musical boundaries. The album promises a diverse range of styles and tempos, featuring collaborations with artists like Lykke Li, Oh Wonder and Enfant Sauvage. Overall, Bloom appears to be a deeply personal and musically adventurous project that reflects Bohmer's evolution as a musician.

This EP is a perfect example to the enduring appeal of 90s techno, EBM, and industrial vibes. Side-1 opens with Juaan's 'Ninero,' a track that channels the spirit of Cabaret Voltaire and Severed Heads with its gritty 90s techno influences and EBM-industrial edge. The raw energy and intricate layering create a dancefloor champion. Next, 'Mafia' by Juaan takes us into a vintage realm, merging house and techno with a standout groove and meticulous drum pattern. Juaan's expertise in programming grooves shines through, making him one to watch. Side-2 features Richer's contributions, starting with 'Machina Marina,' a blend of techno and futuristic italo house that feels both innovative and retro. The track's rhythmic complexity and melodic elements create a great soundscape. Closing the EP, Richer's 'Einzendark' (Future mix) captures the fun, rave spirit of the early 90s, reminiscent of Meat Beat Manifesto and Manufactura. The fusion of industrial techno and new wave sounds is both nostalgic and forward-thinking. Advanced Rhythm Generator is a dynamic release that skillfully bridges past and present.

Dust Redux
Review: Ira James - owner and orchestrator of Vessel Recordings Group US - is treating us to plenty of newness this month and first up is Natural Rhythm with this transparent yellow vinyl 12". It's pure deep house bliss from the off with 'No Clothes' pairing rubbery and punchy kicks with some liquid synths that bring colour and depth. After the delightful '1985' comes 'City Life' which has a more dubby and bulbous low end that disappears out of sight as snappy snares power along the groove. 'Dust Redux' closes out with some sleek synth work and tech house minimalism that is pure dancing bait for the heads.

Review: On the accompanying notes for this one, fresh German label outing Monaberry say they function as both music platform and berry garden ambassadors. They say they don't just release music but do so somehow in a way that helps countless people cultivate their own tomato gardens; while we can't quite adjudicate the veracity of this claim, we can certainly hold its fanciful promise in mind whilst listening to what we're here for, this first V/A release from the imprint. Welcoming Super Flu, Malive, Dancing On Lego and Jessica Brankka to the fold, all four tracks here are impressive, progressive texturisers, intelligently designed for maximum affective tearing-up, and gyrating not long afterwards.

When I Saw Her
Review: Alexander Skancke’s I Love You on Quirk delivers four dancefloor-ready tracks that cater to various moods throughout the night, perfect for any minimal or tech house set. Side-1 starts off with 'Only You,' a fun and slightly twisted house stomper that leans into darker territory, setting the stage for an intriguing vibe. The title track, 'I Love You' (Not My Bass Mix), follows with a grooving tech house feel, marked by sexy drum patterns that keep the energy flowing. On Side-2, 'Do You Feel The Love' (featuring Sonya Zlo) ramps up the tempo with a high-energy blend of techno and house, striking a fine balance that’s both infectious and crowd-pleasing. The EP closes with 'When I Saw Her,' a deeper minimal groove that serves as a slow-burning builder, perfect for those later hours when the night transitions into something more introspective. This release is a versatile toolkit for DJs, with each track tailored for different moments on the dancefloor.

Review: Burnski's Constant Black label puts out constantly good sounds for all those of a minimal and tech house persuasion. This 33rd such outing comes from Per Hammer who offers a trio of irresistible grooves. 'Everybody_hz' kicks off with rubbery drums and bass intertwining with each other while wonky synths up top add some tripped-out feels. A Varhat adds a little extra bounce and urgency to this silky late-night hypnotiser and then it's back to Hammer for 'The Danish URL'. It's a hooky groove with warped pads rippling up top while closer 'Arkivo' is a more textural and abstract affair with a nice dubby undercurrent.

Review: Sasha Pervukhin explores the feelings of Heartbreak At Montmartre on this latest slab for the Carpet & Snares label out of Portugal. It kicks off with some well swung tech house drums and a tight bassline thats detailed with some dusty percussion. Once that one gets you marching, 'Your Unhappy Face' brings some late night jazz house vibes with liquid chords and zippy motifs that are nice and loose, and 'What Is Tekno' (Grey Sky At Montmartre As Always mix) then layers in balmy cosmic chords as it rides a classic tech house beat. 'Calm Before Calm' taps into a 90s house sound with a hint of garage skip in the drums.
