Yossi Amoyal Presents Fluere IV
  1. A1 People - "Do It" (Metamatics remix)
  2. Kosmogonik - "Circuitry"
  3. Silicon Scally - "Relay"
  4. Matt Chester - "November Pathways"
  5. CiM - "Recursive"
Review: Since Zip and Villalobos made it one of their coveted deep digs to be heard pealing out of a thousand after hours sessions, the Metamatics remix of A1 People has been a teasingly out of reach dream grab for many a minimal electro head. Now Yossi Amoyal has done the good deed of getting the track remastered and repressed as part of his Fluere series toasting 15 years of Sushitech. As well as that masterclass of elegant machine funk, there's also Kosmogonik's mind-bendingly brilliant 'Circuitry', Silicon Scally's body-popping electro-noir 'Relay' and Matt Chester's melancholic 'November Pathways' to keep your up-all-night marathon sets peppered with spangled surprises.

Shattered Glass EP
Shattered Glass EP (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: AMP 020. Rel: 14 Dec 20
  1. Glass (11:39)
  2. Shattered (9:19)
Review: Friends of Amphia since their 'Dimensions' EP, Romanian live production outfit return to the label for their third release in as many years. As always with Amorf, the settings are freeform and the direction can go anywhere. 'Glass' is as shiny and clean as its name suggests with touches of Dubnobasswithmyheadman-era Underworld and a lovely jazzy touch. 'Shattered' is a much heartier style of jazz; big swinging breaks and florid synth blasts that's aren't dissimilar to 'Bug In A Bass Bin'. Hot tip.

  1. Rotting Hills (6:46)
  2. Winter & Water (5:02)
  3. One Long Day Till I See You Again (4:09)
Review: Having already got plenty of people talking with her fine entry in the DJ-kicks mix series, Avalon Emerson now follows it up with an EP that is just as standout. The much loved underground darling explores contrasting tones here, with dark bass and glistening melodies offsetting one another perfectly on 'Rotting Hills'. It's a versatile track that will find its way into the sets of a wide array of DJs but comes with the sort of design and invention that will always stand it proud. There are feelings of hopelessness in the music of the final two cuts that stays with you long after they have finished playing.

  1. 300 (6:08)
  2. Key To Success (7:51)
  3. Key To Success (Casey Spillman remix) (6:46)
  4. The Life (7:01)
Review: The Fuse crew's Locus imprint strikes wax again with three head twisting grooves from Tel Aviv's Stephan Bazbaz and a peppy remix from Locus regular Casey Spillman. Fresh from his Djebali collaboration and 'Fraires' EP on Infuse earlier this year, Bazbaz returns with 'Voyage'. '300' buckles us up and lifts us off. Bare bones ingredients with a full fat flavour, this has Craig Richards, 7am, all over it while 'Key To Success' is a much more pumping techno affair. Finally 'The Life' brings us to a hazy, euphoric close. Mild shades of trance and acid punctuating an otherwise soft-focus mix, it's a smooth end to a pleasantly turbulent journey. Bon 'Voyage'.

Beat Box EP
Beat Box EP (limited 12")
Cat: CRO 0420. Rel: 15 Dec 20
  1. Beat Box (7:01)
  2. Beat Box (Revolutionary mix) (7:08)
  3. Ich Liebe Dich (7:57)
Review: After a long delay due to the closing of their pressing plant and the mastering studio due to COVID -19, Crisp finally gets this one out. 'Beat Box' is perfectly stripped back techno that does a lot with a little. A wobbling synth line brings the character to the flat footed drums. Glitchy effects and water droplets are the only other real accompaniment but still you will dance. The Revolutionary mix is a little more elastic. Vocals bring some attitude and slapping hits drive it along. On the flip, the strobe lit 'Ich Liebe Dich' is a playful, rhythmic, broken up tune to get a late night crowd screaming for more.

  2. Danny Faber - "Hampi" (7:10)
  3. Phonique, Fairplay - "Zatar" (6:45)
  4. Martin Waslewski - "Dimensionen" (6:36)
Review: Berlin's Bar 25 was a real haven in the German party capital. It's reputation lives on strong in the label releases, the latest of which is a celebratory various artist affair. Kiki kicks things off with a heads down tech house stomper that undulates just enough to keep you in the groove.
Danny Faber's 'Hampi' is a headier affair, with suspensory synths keeping you locked on edge and then Phonique and Fairplay link for the more tribal and mysterious sounds of 'Zatar'. Closing out this party-ready EP is Martin Waslewski with the far-gazing chords and twinkling retro future keys of 'Dimensionen.'

Stevie?
Stevie? (7")
Cat: BB 45008. Rel: 08 Dec 20
  1. Stevie? (Caserta Sunday Saint mix) (6:04)
  2. Stevie? (JoDaCe Saturday Sinner mix) (5:57)
Review: Caserta is legendary digger Kon's long time engineer, and he sure does have a wealth of tricks up his own sleeve. Here he gets to tackle his own super 7" on the Bridge Boots label and first off he serve sup a lovely take on a Stevie Wonder tune. 'Stevie?' (Caserta Sunday Saint mix) has mid-tempo grooves rolling away nicely beneath exquisite synth work and a well-treated vocal from the man himself. JoDaCe steps up on the flip for a Saturday Sinner mix that is more driving and ready for the club. The bass is rugged, the vocals more looped and freaky, the effect just as brilliant but in different ways.

Yossi Amoyal Presents Fluere II
  1. Jin Choi - "High Quality Schal" (Baby Ford remix)
  2. Sten - "Circles"
  3. Mark Broom - "Gira"
  4. Edward - "Sender"
Review: The second instalment in Yossi Amoyal's Fluere compilation run brings further leftfield house and techno delights into one place, in honour of Sushitech's 15th anniversary. First up on this 12" is Baby Ford's impeccable remix of Jin Choi, which adds extra layers of drama to Ford's trademark minimal clicks and pops. Sten's 'Circles' is a pristine, dubby tech house workout, while Mark Broom's 'Gira' sounds all the better for a modern remaster 25 years after its original release. Edward's 'Sender' finishes the record off on a nervy, unsettled note where lingering off-key tones hover over a dense and twitchy minimal beat.

  1. The 90's Generation (8:56)
  2. Cold Touch (8:08)
Review: Priku's Atipic Lab turns to local Romanian artist Cosmjn who returns in a fine vein of form. He makes no bones about his intentions and influences on the opener 'The 90's Generation' which is a dark, stark, cold tech beat that is albeit inviting. The hi hats spin endlessly and the bass is blippy and bleepy. 'Cold Touch' then heads off into the cosmos with roomy pads and an airy groove that is tinged with electro goodness. Both of these are timeless cuts that will work on a wide range of dance floors.

  1. Past Present (8:06)
  2. Path Of Most Resistance (7:08)
  3. Vitamin (7:13)
Review: Pepe Bradock's - Path Of Most Resistance is a seminal EP, and not only is the title of this new one from Direkt very similar, but his sound design is just as off grid and curious. That makes his tech house tunes all the more appealing. 'Past Present' is squelchy beats, tinny hist and warped pads that all coalesce around a dry beat. 'Path Of Most Resistance' then gets lost in the cosmos with circling pads and dreamy soundscapes layered up over another subtle metallic drum groove. 'Vitamin' cuts loose at the afters, with alien forms and speedy, overlapping kicks hurrying you ever deep into the night.

Cat: TTM 001. Rel: 13 Jan 21
  1. DJ Deep - "Batu" (6:09)
  2. Traumer - "Batu" (9:34)
Review: You don't get producers any more versatile than these two Parisian experts. DJ Deep and Roman Poncet team up once again to throw down some quality house music on new imprint Tatum. DJ Deep takes over the A side with some low slung and dreamy deep disco vibe on 'Batu', while Poncet takes over on the flip. It is business as usual under the Traumer alias with the hypnotic and bass driven minimal/tech house of 'Batu' (yes, same name) with Latin-infused elements throughout. Perfect jams for the warm-up or afterhours alike - tip!

  2. Amin Ravelle - "Ladarto" (8:11)
  3. Dorothy's Dream - "C'Hai Creduto Eh?" (7:31)
Review: Berlin-based imprint Rumenigge return with more abstract and ominous expressions in minimal techno on this various artists EP. On side A we have Dubfound, a Moldova based producer and DJ who heads up the labels Swoon, Nurum and Zimotik. His contribution on Trident Vol. 3 is 'PDLK', a deep and woozy number on the tribal side, which is perfect for getting weird at the afterhours. Even more Sunday morning styled tackle awaits you on side B, with the very disorienting groove paranoia of Amin Ravelle's 'Ladarto' where the Barcelona-based producer serves up something you would expect to hear during one of Rhadoo's infamous Monday morning sets at Hoppetosse. Closing it out is Dorothy's Dream with the funked up Sunwaves breaks of 'C'Hai Creduto Eh?'.

Review: Sushitech's anniversary celebrations are centring around label boss Yossi Amoyal's impeccably curated compilation Fluere. Across a series of 12"s, Amoyal taps up big hitters and deep cover reaches alike to present something of a summation of the inspiration behind his fantastic label's sound. On here you get Jan Jelinek's experimental excursions as GES, Mathew Jonson's evergreen 'Freedom Engine', dynamic tech house from Brawther and shimmering beatless pulses from Benjamin Brunn. It's a unique approach that juxtaposes club tracks and experimental fare in an interesting way, and the quality remains infallibly high throughout.

Review: One of the more underrated figures of Romania's fertile minimal scene, Arad-based Sergiu Mario Cilibiu (aka Herck) presents his latest offering, the Agony EP, on new Moscow imprint Simple Things. The mesmerising, immersive rolling drama of the title track is a fine example of microhouse done well, with its immaculate sound design built into a knackered groove that's perfect for after hours weirdness. On the flip we have two more lean and subtle cuts, in the form of a skeletal arrangement called "Vibrazium", and yet more subdued tones and clipped drum programming awaits you next with the moody Sunday morning psychedelia of 'Cavernal'.

Review: After outings on split EPs for What NxT and Heisenberg, Jamahr takes control of the second release from the Captea label with a classy four tracker that spans the depths of house music. 'Urza' is urgent and tightly coiled as it surges through balmy solar winds. 'Planetary' is even more cinematic with its shimmering chords and loopy bass and 'Traumatize' then gets into a more toned out, 3am sort of vibe with its spacious feel, deeply buried acid undulations and broken beat pattern. 'Sacro E Profano' closes out with the most straight-head grooves of the lot, but one that still remains deep.

  4. Gamebai (7:21)
Review:
New Year, new label alert. This one will be a strictly vinyl only affair with this first missive from an artist from the two rather desperate destinations of Limerick in Ireland and Melbourne, Australia. It finds JJ Fortune getting nice and wonky with late night club tracks fusing wild melody, whirring electronics and bumping beats. 'Resurgence' is a colourful and kaleidoscopic affair that stays busy, 'What Planet R You From' is all crunchy 8bit sounds and tumbling synth modulations and 'C'Mon' keeps up the tinny 80s melodic vibes. 'Gamebai' closes out with more pixelated melodic rain and brilliantly unhinged groove madness.

  4. In The Loft (5:53)
Review: Hot on the heels of his first outing on Constant Sound, rising star Kepler (real name Matthew Farrow) makes his first appearance on Sukhumvit. The Retro Future EP is well named, because you'll find plenty of vintage influences and good, old-fashioned inspirations amongst the four tracks on show. Bustling opener 'Pickled' adds mid-90s Korg M1 organ sounds, saucer-eyed ambient house chords and Orbital style melodies to an energetic, non-stop groove, while 'Out of Time' offers a similar blend of 1990s house sounds and contemporary club weight. Over on the reverse, 'Groove Breakfast' joins the dots between Italian piano house and mid-90s NYC house, before Kepler rounds things off with the sub-heavy snap and celestial synthesizer riffs of US garage-influenced roller 'In The Loft'.

Deep Again (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: AR 01. Rel: 30 Nov 20
  1. Deep Again (8:10)
  2. NMS (6:20)
Review: Lazare Hoche and Malin Genie join forces for a sublime trip through psychoactive tech house that edges away from minimal and into a more colourful, analogue headspace. 'Deep Again' revels in swooping pad swells and rounded lead hooks, of course strapped to one of those impeccably executed four-to-the-floor beats. 'NMS' jacks things up with a punchy synth line and snappy claps that are perfectly honed for the peak time, but there's still a luxuriant melancholy lingering behind the rhythm section thanks to more spacious atmospherics. This is as classy as tech house gets, but what else did you expect from two operators in their absolute prime?

Review: Weirdtracx out of Argentina reaches release number three and with it continues to bring freshness to the world of minimal and tech house. Matias Chaple Aka Matichap is one of the members of chapsenza (from the Relik label) and has an infectious style when working solo. 'Balance' is slick, funky deep and cosmic house music with interesting sound design and hooky motifs to draw you in. 'Hybrid' is more cosmic funk with cyber sounds, deep bass and driving beats while 'Light' continues in that trend of being both heady yet physical music with plenty of curious details. 'Molecular' closes out with the most high speed groove of the lot, but picking a favourite here is futile - all do a fine job.

Review: Italian artist Mennie has worked with Julien Sandre on a number of occasions, as well as landing on Rawax, Moscow and Adult Only and now debuts on Infuse. His style is too maximal for minimal but too stripped back to be fully fledged house tackle, so straddles a nice divide between the too. There's plenty of interesting sound design to help make these tracks pop, from the trippy put pads to the squelch bass, the muffled vocals to the bendy sine waves. It's all music that works as well for the head as it does the heel and is a fine addition to any decent record bag.
