Review: A quadruple box set spanning recordings made between 1968 and 1980 on two-track Revox tape, these previously unreleased works showcase the hypnotic cycles and textural explorations that define kosmische musik. Using his signature Farfisa organ and Echolette tape delay, the pieces evoke the spirit of Roedelius' Selbstportrait series and collaborations with Dieter Moebius and Michael Rother. Rather than a strict retrospective, 90 feels like a timeless sound journey, blending cascading minimalist loops with the organic warmth that has inspired generations. Tracks are unnamed and unmoored from chronology, allowing the listener to experience them as fluid expressions of Roedelius's artistry. The music recalls the meditative brilliance of contemporaries like Terry Riley, while firmly rooted in the experimental ethos of early German electronic music. Released to celebrate Roedelius's 90th birthday, this collection is both a celebration and a rediscovery, offering a vivid portrait of a visionary artist. 90 is a masterclass in innovation and introspection, essential for fans of kosmische and beyond.

Review: Bristol trio Jabu returns with A Soft And Gatherable Star, their latest album on the Always + Forever label. Known for blending dub and Bristol's sound system culture, Jabu expands their sonic landscape while bringing songwriting to the forefront. Echoes of the city's landmarks and personal memories, like lost parents and youth, inform the album's narrative. Tracks like 'Oceanside Spider House' veer away from trip-hop, instead evoking the ethereal shimmer of The Cure and Cocteau Twins. 'Gently Fade' channels shadowy jazz ballads, while 'Seamills' flows with a slow, aquatic rhythm, enhanced by fuzzy saxophone notes from Lorenzo Prati. Rakhi Singh and Sebastian Gainsborough's fragile strings on 'All Night' create a dreamlike ambiance, and 'If I Asked You, You'd Tell Me' features Josh Horsley's cello, cloaked in texture and restraint. With influences ranging from ambient soundscapes to the delicate beauty of Mica Levi's work, A Soft And Gatherable Star feels organic, allowing songs to evolve naturally. Recorded between Bristol and Childs' mother's home, the album reflects on lost teenage memories and the eerie transformation of familiar spaces. It's a meditative journey, rooted in emotion and subtle, cinematic sound design.

Review: Active now for some 40 years, Hiull's Andrew Chalk explores the quiet, intimate spaces between melody and texture, highlighting fleeting moments with a painter's touch heer across 15 tracks. While his previous release, Songs of the Sea, unfolded in long, in depth waves, Dioramas embraces succinct pieces in each composition showing a look into a world rich with hushed tones and slow-moving beauty. There's a gentle warmth that permeates much of the album, as if the music is unfolding in soft light. 'The Carrach' introduces a folksy lilt, its melody turning over itself like a jewel slowly spinning on a dial. 'The Changes' evokes a meditative solemnity with its rich, organ-led hymn, while 'Lonely House' closes the album with stretched, whispering strings that shimmer like reflections on water. These small but striking details never disrupt the album's stillness but instead highlight Chalk's ability to subtly shift focus, revealing new layers of depth in each listen. A master of texture and restraint, Chalk continues to refine his singular approach to ambient and drone, weaving together fragile yet deep soundscapes. On Dioramas, the British Andrew Chalk returns to the art of miniaturism, crafting delicate, self-contained sonic vignettes that feel like carefully composed dioramas in sound.

Review: While most celebrated in electronic music circles for his work as part of Yellow Magic Orchestra - not to mention a string of experimental solo works - Ryuichi Sakamoto has long been an acclaimed composer of music for the big screen. As the title suggests, this fine compilation gathers together some of his best soundtrack works. There are plenty of familiar favourites present - check the chiming, suitably cheery theme to "Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence" and the swelling closing theme from "The Last Emperor" - alongside lesser-known gems such as the lilting strings of "The Sheltering Sky (Main Theme)", the simmering beauty of "Little Buddha: Acceptance" and the jazz-influenced bliss of "Femme Fatale: Bolerisch".

Review: Ludovico Einaudi returns with a deeply nostalgic new album that effortlessly captures the essence of childhood summers that are filled with freedom, discovery and fleeting moments of joy. Known for his evocative, minimalist compositions, Einaudi blends delicate piano melodies with rich and atmospheric textures here in a soundtrack for reflection and memory. The album's warm soundscapes evoke the golden light of late afternoons and the quiet serenity of nature - all things we can relate to even if we never actually lived them. Presented on eco-friendly FSC-certified materials, The Summer Portraits is both a tribute to the past and a celebration of timeless experiences and, as Einaudi expresses, "To our summers... endless memories."

Review: Golden Ivy's new transcendent single marks a celebrated return to the label after time spent with other imprints. Rooted in a sample from Sinnenas Dans by Scanian folk legend Ale Moller, the track evolves into a fourth-world masterpiece that layers in flute melodies with synthesised explorations and rather industrial leaning motorik rhythms. With Moller's blessing, the result is both meditative and grand and on the flip, you will find Philipp Otterbach's post-punk dub reinterpretation. it's rich in deep, sculptural and contrasting soundscapes and invites mindful, low-tempo dances that will resonate on all manner of diverse 'floors.

Review: Gianni Marchetti's 1977-78 LPs Equinox and Solstitium are truly rare gems from Italy's library music scene. Long thought lost, these tracks were unearthed from original DAT tapes and remastered for vinyl. They are loved for their ethereal, imaginative compositions as Marchetti's work blends driving rhythms, lush strings and intoxicating jazz sounds that offer a cinematic, dreamy feel. These albums, previously promotional-only and still highly coveted by collectors, now shine as part of Dialogo's initiative exploring RCA's "Original Cast" series. They lay bare the brilliance of Italian library music.

Review: Perila's latest double album is a mesmerising exploration of ambient soundscapes, field recordings and vocal manipulation. Spanning 21 tracks, the work unfolds like an immersive narrative, with each side offering its own thematic journey. Her voice drifts through vast, haunting spaces, weaving into ghostly chorals and spectral pulses, creating an eerie atmosphere that blends the intimate with the outer world. Tracks like 'Deza' and 'Sepula Purm' highlight her ability to transform simple vocal echoes into atmospheric wonders, while 'Nia' introduces faint low-end rumbles that evolve into hypnotic rhythms. As the album progresses, Perila delves deeper into industrial and experimental terrain, with tracks like 'Mola' offering a soft, meditative reprieve, before 'Supa Mi' strips everything back to raw, acapella fragments. The sound grows more intense as it moves forward, with 'Darbounouse Song' delivering a creative peak of crackling textures and resonant gong tones, and 'She Wonder' exploring rhythmic digital precipitation. Her use of field recordings, fragmented whispers, and organic sounds results in a deeply personal and atmospheric experience, making this her most cohesive and fully realized work to date. Fans of experimental, immersive sound will find much to admire here.

Review: James Clements (ASC) has been one of the most highly regarded artists in ambient, ambient techno and IDM scene since his evolution into the sound about 15 years ago. His ability to create deep soundscapes over lush beats and atmospheres come from his liquid drum n bass background prior to working with more cinematic tracks. ASC is back with a new release and it finds a home at the Past Inside the Present stable where he had put out a few EPs on the last couple years. This haunting and beautiful release Loss, explores various moods and atmospheres to great success. Tracks like the amazing and spacious 'Sensory Disintegration' to the poignant 'What More Can Be Said' which adds a lush airspace to a stunning piano piece. Some soundscapes are majestic and triumphant while others are minimal and then foreboding. New age and ambient fans will rejoice after hearing this magical album. Review: In 2018, Nils Frahm initiated the "Encores" series: a trilogy of EPs exploring different aspects of his musical world. Here, those sets get gathered together on vinyl for the very first time. Listened to in sequence, it sees the Berlin-based pianist and composer offer up solo acoustic pieces for piano and harmonium (tracks 1 to 5), before layering up piano, processed field recordings and complimentary instrumentation on a suite of sublime ambient tracks (6 to 9). The final section of the album - originally "Encores 3" - sees him flip the script entirely, working almost exclusively with a combination of modular and analogue synthesizers and electronically processed voices. That the collection hangs together as a coherent album despite these stylistic shifts is testament to Frahm's abilities both as a performer and producer.

Now it is to Edinburgh's Athens of the North for Parallel Light, another collection of sumptuous ambient sounds that are so much more than just background music. The album is actually an alternate mix of his 2020 long player Fugitive Light And Themes Of Consolation so offers a different perspective with plenty of moving spiritual-jazz and neo-classical sounds that help paint alluring musical landscapes.

Review: This is the second album by Balmorhea for the prestigious classical label Deutsche Grammophon, following their acclaimed 2020 release The Wind. The Austin, Texas duo - composed of Rob Lowe and Michael A. Muller - create cinematic and atmospheric music in a world entirely of its own; a shifting blend of gothic classical, folk, ambient, and post-rock, which rarely feature vocals, and instead thrive on the haunted immersions of the compositions alone. Their new LP Pendant World is a collaborative effort that features contributions from several guest artists and contemporary stars: cellist Clarice Jensen, violinist Hilary Hahn, pianist Nils Frahm, singer-songwriter Jose Gonzalez, and electronic producer Rival Consoles. A stunning mesh of sounds, we're not sure where electronic ends and acoustic begins, owing to the album's intended theme of connection, transformation, and evolution.

Placelessness I (18:12)
Placelessness II (20:33)
Review: It's fair to say Placelessness is the work of an Australian experimental supergroup. Oren Ambarchi has been a towering figure of hyper-minimalism since the mid-80s, most notably creating tense and elongated stretches of recordings and performance using guitar tone. Robbie Avenaim is an accomplished experimental drummer, and Chris Abrahams heads up The Necks. That's a very condensed biography for three incredibly accomplished musicians who finally make good on years of live collaborations and criss-crossed pathways to deliver a stunning album which brings their respective qualities into sharp relief, somehow fuller than their solo efforts without losing the vital subtlety and patience which has guided them to greatness.

As well as the stunning sci-fi action on screen, the series is also notable for the striking soundtrack from Swedish composer Ludwig Goransson, and now you can score a highly collectable edition of that very work thanks to this awesome picture disc. With the titular hero's helmet on one side, and of course wee little Grogu in his hover basket thing on the other, this is one that will look as good on the shelf as it will sound on the platter.

Movement, Before All Flowers (5:07)
Review: Max Richter's album, In A Landscape, is his ninth studio effort, and has been recorded at his Studio Richter Mahr in Oxfordshireia space designed with his wife, artist Yulia Mahr. This album marks a significant chapter in Richter's illustrious career. Described by Richter as a exploration of "reconciling polarities," weaves together electronic textures with acoustic instrumentation, bridging the human with the natural world and addressing life's profound questions alongside its simple pleasures. Richter elaborates that the album continues the thematic exploration begun with his 2004 work, The Blue Notebooks, but viewed through the lens of contemporary life. The lead track, 'Movement, Before All Flowers,' exemplifies this blend of depth and delicacy, offering a look into Richter's contemplation on existence and the passage of time. In A Landscape is not just a musical journey but a reflective self-portrait. It shows a composer ever in dialogue with the world around him.

Review: The new Disney+ TV miniseries Agatha All Along sees Kathryn Hahn reprise her role as Agatha Harkness, a central superheroine and witch of the Marvel Comics universe. A sequel to the live-action miniseries WandaVision, Agatha All Along charts Harkness' travails of escape and persecution, in a contemporary magic realist narrative blending witch coven and superhero themes. Here the soundtrack to the new series appears in tasteful and fitting fashion and in LP format, featuring such well-chosen as 'Hava Nagila' by Traditional, 'Visions' by Plastic People, 'Season Of The Witch' by Donovan and 'Heads Will Roll' by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Review: The fourth ever solo studio album from the acclaimed electronic artist and composer Laurel Halo, Atlas is intended to guide the listener through their own subconscious mind, coming as an intense sequence of soaring ambiences and beatless jazz montages. Finding its footing in instrumental improvisation by Halo herself, plus featuring artists Coby Sey, James Underwood and Lucy Railton - and then blowing any assumptive connotation with jazz out of the park with its subtly effected vocal processing and electronic tinkerings and washes thereafter - fans can be sure that this is not going to be your stock experimental affair.

Review: After two albums on A Strangely Isolated Place as Comit, James Clements returns under his ASC alias and does so with yet another brilliantly fresh and introspective approach. Original Soundtrack shifts focus to the piano and so invites you to construct your own interpretations within an imaginary cinematic framework. Known for his mastery across genres from autonomic and jungle to ambient, techno and IDM, Clements narrows his focus here with great results. Crafting eight evocative pieces centred on the piano is not something he has done before but it results in another deeply personal and immersive work that adds a new dimension to ASC's artistry.

Review: A wet dream by any other name, Nocturnal Emissions first gave us Innovation of the Beast Gods in January 1989. A year that would wind up changing the very face of the world and global order, it's fitting that we should be returning to it at a point when history seems to be getting made in some rather overwhelming ways, and established structures are again being called into question and actively dismantled. Enough politics, though - Innovation of the Beast Gods is disinterested in the discourse of artificial power and resolutely committed to a more natural world. Tracks are more collages of layered sounds, recordings of creatures that come out as the sun goes down and humans tend to take more of a back seat. Bats, owls, marine life, foxes, and insects all contributed to the aural tapestry, captured noises augmented by synthesised and electronic tones completing a deeply textured and immersive experience.

Review: Ennio Morricone's score for A Fistful of Dollars is a seminal moment in film music history, launching him, Sergio Leone, and Clint Eastwood towards fame. The music, a dark and cold yet stylistically colorful masterpiece, is as integral to the film as any other element. The opening title theme, with its whistling, grunting vocals, electric guitar, whip, and drums, is a three-minute stroke of genius. 'Almost Dead' introduces another indelible theme, blending low-end piano, harmonica, and gypsy-like violin solos. 'Square Dance' is a catchy piece of Western dance music, while 'The Chase' is a frenzied mix of trumpets, percussion, and choir, unheard-of in film scores at the time. The score's action-packed sequences, like 'The Result' and 'Without Pity,' showcase Morricone's innovative fusion of American and European folk music. The 15-minute 'Theme From A Fistful of Dollars' is a breathtaking trumpet theme, akin to 'Ecstasy of Gold.' This reissue, on matching "red canyon" vinyl, captures the brilliance of a classic score from a true genius of cinema music.

Pressed on black sparkle vinyl in a design that complements the immersive game music within. Remastered for vinyl by Christian Bethge, the soundtrack revisits and reimagines themes from the original Risk of Rain game, blending them seamlessly with new, void-infused compositions. The music is a dynamic mix of powerful guitars, pulsing synths, and pounding drums, all layered with lush reverbs. The album also introduces fresh elements, including lyrical woodwinds, soaring violins, and intense saxophones, creating a rich and diverse soundscape. This vinyl is more than just a soundtrackiit's an experience. Review: Rabih Abou-Khalil's Arabian Waltz is a masterful fusion of jazz, Middle Eastern traditional music, and Western classical. Featuring Abou-Khalil on oud, Michel Godard on tuba and serpent, Nabil Khaiat on frame drums, and the Balanescu String Quartet, the album achieves a unique blend of sounds. Abou-Khalil creatively uses the string quartet, which is traditionally harmony-focused, to play in unison or octaves, integrating them seamlessly into the Middle Eastern musical framework. The album's highlight, 'Dreams of a Dying City,' evokes a cinematic atmosphere with its brooding tuba and cello motifs. 'The Pain After' starts with an impressive tuba solo that transitions into a poignant interlude with the string quartet, reminiscent of Beethoven's late quartets, before Abou-Khalil's oud adds a touch of wistfulness. The title track, 'Arabian Waltz,' and 'Ornette Never Sleeps' provide dynamic and quirky contrasts. Arabian Waltz showcases Abou-Khalil's ability to innovate with guest musicians, creating a new and compelling musical style. It's a splendid album for fans of world music, jazz, classical, or anyone who appreciates exceptional music.

Founded by Adi Newton in 1978 to merge art, science and sonology while embracing innovative, multidisciplinary approaches, The Anti Group served as a platform for exploring psycho-acoustic research and this 1994 album was recorded over three years. It is among their more accessible works - never more so than now when it debuts on vinyl after 30 years. Review: Astonishingly, a decade has now passed since Todd Gauthreaux first donned the Tapes & Topographies guise. Since then, he has released countless inspired and immersive albums, offering up an attractive ambient sound rich in drifting chords, densely layered sound design and contemplative musical motifs. Plumage, his first full-length excursion of 2024, sees him pop up on ROHS! for the first time. He's typically delivered the goods, matching ocean-deep ambient soundscapes with slow burning, melancholic melodies, evocative flashes of field recordings, hazy aural textures and twinkling, occasionally sorrowful, piano solos. It's arguably one of his most accessible and aurally striking sets to date - not bad for someone whose output has been consistently excellent for some time.

Review: Federico Albanese's Blackbirds and the Sun of October is a deeply personal album inspired by his native Monferrato in northern Italy, where it was entirely written and recorded. Returning home in autumn 2022 after years in Berlin, Albanese found creative inspiration in the region's landscapes, history and legends and he describes the album as a reflection on origins, heritage and the freedom that comes with returning home. Unlike his previous works which explored memories and imaginary worlds, this album embraces the tangible beauty of nature and history with a newfound sense of positivity and connection to his surroundings.

Review: Steve Pittis aka. Band Of Pain shares his latest album, Uncle God's Pag Pag Banquet, though he daren't mention what exactly a Pag Pag Banquet is: you'll have to listen and intuit that one for yourself. Treading new ground not only in sound but in collaborative and material form, the new record hears Pittis cycle through a bevy of brooding post-punk and avant-garde arraignments, all while tabbing collabs with Steven Stapleton and Andrew Liles (Nurse With Wound) and Jean-Herve Peron and Jeanne-Marie Varain (Faust), as well as bringing the record to a cheekily compact 2xCD set, backed up by an unplayable (yes, you read that right) 12" record with exclusive etchings thereupon by Stapleton. A macabre assemblage, this is a cannibalistic sonic banquet for sure, a Burroughsian nightmare of a third album.

Review: A lush and evocative blend of orchestral grandeur and dreamy 80s synth work, this soundtrack is a sonic journey into steamy sci-fi. The opening theme glides effortlessly between delicate baroque flourishes and pulsing electronic rhythms, setting the tone for an adventure that is both mysterious and seductive. Sweeping string arrangements intertwine with shimmering synthesisers, evoking a sense of exotic wonder while maintaining an undeniable sense of nostalgia. The compositions balance classical sophistication with experimental textures, capturing the film's mix of pulp adventure and fantasy-tinged eroticism. Tracks shift from ethereal, atmospheric moments to more urgent, rhythm-driven passages, mirroring the story's dramatic turns. The use of vintage synth tones alongside lush orchestration results in a sound that feels both timeless and unmistakably rooted in its era. Remastered from pristine stereo master tapes, this edition restores every intricate detail with warmth and clarity. An exquisite rediscovery of an underrated gem.
