  3. Dreams (4:31)

  5. Deeptrak
Review: Following up that great inaugural release by Firmin last year, London label and party crew Tessellate crack on into 2019 with this absolute gem by Aleksandir - the London-based Turkish wunderkind who brought us one of last year's highlights in the form of his much lauded Contrails LP for Church. It was love at first listen upon hearing the truly understated deepness of 'that track' "Yamaha" and its Sueno Latino-ish vibe, which is followed by a moody and minimal rework by rising Belgian duo Asa Moto. On the flip, things get more uplifting on the dusty/giddy tones of "Dreams", and Seb Wildblood of the aforementioned Church imprint gets onboard for a heart warming and glassy eyed remix.

  6. Easin' In The S System (original 1994 version) (6:06)
Review: When "Easin' In The S-System" first appeared on wax way back in 1994, Gert-Jan Bijl was still taking his first steps as a producer. In fact, the track was originally the B-side of the Dutchman's very first EP as Gerd on Brave New World Records. Curiously, this 25th anniversary edition places the superb original version - a deliciously intergalactic fusion of ambient techno sounds, hypnotic deep house drums and Detroit style sci-fi electronics - right at the tail end of the EP. It comes accompanied by a wonderfully ghostly, acid-flecked alternate version, plus four previously unheard cuts rescued from an old DAT tape. The breakbeat-driven chunkiness of "Brave New World" aside, these offer varied and largely high quality explorations of the futurist sound of vintage Motor City techno.

  5. Pacific Bureau - "Turn Me On" (4:41)
Review: Axe On Wax sublabel PNP cuts to the chase once again with another limited five tracker from an exciting range of names. Rising London talent Tom Jay takes the lead with a brazen slab of funky house that chugs with a generous helping of Chicago flair. He's in good company; the bossman Fede Lng with a silky street soul piece that hits with a smidgeon of new jack sass, Hank Youngman simplifies his name and groove with beautiful filtered samba savoire faire before Pacific Bureau rounds it off, pressing the big red button named 80s soul. Recommended!

  3. Lazy Sunshine (5:46)
  4. Detached Observation (7:13)
Review: This fine outing on Church marks the return of Rai Scott, a woman who knows a thing or two about crafting quality deep house. Despite it being three years since her last EP, Scott has lost none of her production powers. For proof, check the dreamy lo-fi wooziness of "Paradise of Crane", where deep space synthesizer chords seemingly float around a clicking deep house groove, the cinematic bliss of "Lazy Sunshine" - "Deep Burnt" for a new generation, perhaps - and the lilting, enveloping dancefloor melancholia of "Detached Observation". Also worth checking is Valentino Mora's fine remix of "Paradise of Crane", which recasts the track and a slowly shifting chunk of head-in-the-clouds deep house/dub techno fusion.

Across the Jomo EP's four tracks, take a deep trip aboard the acid express on the woozy "Desert Island", get into the dusty shenanigans of "Piano & Piano" and one for the late night antics - enjoy the psychedelic madness of "Your Job Is My Job".

  1. Red E (6:18)
  2. Cum Thru (5:51)
Review: London-based G Markus' credentials include productions on Soul Clap Records, Exploited, Roots For Bloom, Music For Freaks and Monologues. This will be the sixth edition of his own G-Edits series, where he serves up a familiar stateside groove that has been respectfully respliced on "Red E" - think classic Strictly Rhythm or Catch from the early '90s. On the flip, it's more of a remix on the sexy late-night trip "Cum Thru" that will give y'all a nice fix of deepness with its bouncy bassline and soulful vocals. More surefire grooves from the lesser known alias of Ben Gomori.

  4. Loure - "Club Shade" (6:24)
Review: Harlem NYC based 13th Hour return with more music for the witching hour on their third release, after having previously shown off great grooves by Belgian Ricky Razu, Tbilisi's Hamatsuki and local lad M. Vaughan. This time round they have decided to focus on two select talents, with the A side being taken care of by Colombia's Felipe Gordon. He takes a break from the three-piece Mercury to deliver the Jazzmatazz inspired cut "I'll Become Blue" and the dusty, emotive deepness of "The Last Time I Saw You". On the flip, things start to heat up with Australian Loure (Apparel/Slothboogie Jamz) who serves up some sexy late mood lighting on "So Dive" and vocal-led cut "Club Shade".

Review: Los Angeleno in Berlin Steve Huerta returns to homeboy Urulu's Amadeus imprint for the first time since 2016's Apache Line EP. Still very much a deep house producer, he's truly reached a new level with his sound on the new Amaso EP. From the emotive, neon-lit vibe of the enchanting title track, the lush rolling breaks of "Fake Leather Whatever" to the full throttle retro techno vibe of "Don't Be Gentle, It's A Rental" which is quite reminiscent of his other great efforts on Slow Life or Oscillat recently.

On the A side of Top Tracks 06 we have the loveable Aussie maverick Jad & The on the loved-up disco loops of "Strings That Never Win", followed by London's Harry Wolfman (Dirt Crew/House Of Disco) with the lo-slung funk of "The Accord". Review: Two years ago, Thomas Xu announced himself via a fine debut 12" on Sound Signature where he shared vinyl space with Julion De'Angelo. Here he launches his own label, Steady Flight Circle, via a first full solo EP of his own. It's really rather good, with Xu combining spacey jazz-funk synths, emotive chord progressions and rich musicality with beats that tend towards the jazzy, broken and off-kilter. All three tracks feel loose, warm and immediate, as if they were jammed-out in one take. While they clearly weren't, this improvised feel is hugely endearing. From the sounds of "Different Widsoms", Xu will clearly be a producer to watch in the months and years ahead.

Review: Originally conceived as a mixtape dedicated to friends inspired by afterhours parties, Anthony Naples second full length album Take Me With You 'quickly morphed into a soft focused meditation on all things warm and intangible'. The NYC by way of Florida producer was said to be inspired by influences as diverse as Suzanne Ciani, Panda Bear, Arthur Russell and Holger Czukay - which gives you an idea of how diverse and leftfield this collection of tracks are. Highlights include the cosmic dub freak-out "Goodness", the loved-up illbient vibe of "Tango", the first-wave Chicago house inspired interlude "Shredder" and the heart-warming/glassy eyed ambience of "Worldwide" among many others.

  3. Can See Thru You (Sean McCabe 909 dub) (6:53)

Review: Barcelona newcomer Karmasound continues to wriggle and writhe his way up the ranks with a second release on Josiah Hartley's Phuture Shock. Building on the heat and soul of his debut release "Probabilidades" last year, "Can See Thru You" is another dreamy loose-drummed neo soul house gem that sparkles more every time you play it. Sitting somewhere between Amp Fiddler and Phil Asher, it's got summer stamped all over it. Remix-wise Sean McCabe adds two different floor-focused twists with the heavier Broken Mind mix and the heads down 909 dub. Finally Karmasound ups the tempo and takes us deep into bruk territory with the staccato soul and jazzy switches and cool 140 rhythm of "Another Way". There's no other way right now.

  2. Templeton Peck - "Sweat Mix 2"
  3. Uschi Classen - "Take Me High"
Review: Plastik People are back with another volume of unmissable torch bearers for true-skool garage lovers to rejoice at. Things stride in bright and bold with "Mellow Mellow," which plays a dummy move with its trippy sound FX intro before ripping into a romping, sax-fuelled bumper courtesy of seasoned pro Sinan Mercenk. Templeton Peck takes things deeper on "Sweat Mix 2" - a forgotten gem from the golden age of 2-step. Meanwhile Uschi Classen makes things truly dreamy on the woozy but utterly funky "Take Me High," a seriously deep cut previously only available on white label.

Review: It was way back in 1998 when Boo Williams' "A Little Something For You" first appeared on Chicago imprint Guidance Recordings. Now regarded by deep house diggers as an overlooked classic, it has finally been given the reissue treatment courtesy of Groovin' Recordings. It remains one of Williams' finest single outings, with the warm, organ-rich Illinois deep house and Motor City futurism fusion of "Chi-Town Techno" still sounding ahead of its time 21 years after the veteran producer recorded it. Highlights are plentiful elsewhere, too, with jazzy and chunky deep house number "Fairytale (Pride)" and the cowbell-laden, Cymande-sampling brilliance of EP opener "Jew Dan" standing out.
