Produced by Atlus for various PlayStation platforms, the rhythm games pit players against each other or the CPU in a battle of slick moves and bashed buttons. The winner is the best dancer, if that wasn't clear. Naturally, then, this kind of title really needs some proper music to get down to. Persona 5: Dancing In Starlight certainly delivers on that front. Inspired by electronic jazz, EDM, synth-R&B, drum & bass, broken beat, chart house and dance, it's a well-balanced collection of uptempo, percussion-driven tracks that capture where the overall chart sound has been for a decade or so now. Whether that's for you or not is another question entirely, of course.

Review: Divisive in a big way - with outcry in Mexico over national stereotypes and concern from the LGBTQIA+ community due to its portrayal of gender transition - nevertheless Emelia Perez made a massive impact in the movie world when it landed in August 2024. Now the second most nominated movie in Golden Globe history, it tells the story of a cartel boss who enlists a lawyer to help him disappear and transition into a woman. All of which is told in a musical style, with as many tongues in cheek on screen as there are dramatic moments. The soundtrack, then, is a combination of original score composed by Clement Ducol with French singer Camille, and numbers and speeches performed by the cast, which includes Selena Gomez, Mark Ivan, Zoe SaldaNa and Karla Sofia Gascon.

Review: It's the 42nd Millennium and the Era Indomitus, the Age of the Dark Imperium. Humans have launched a galaxy-wide, decade-spanning crusade to win back worlds that were lost to nemeses and save the species, and civilization, from certain doom. We don't know about you, but given current events, we can only hope things make it so far in the real world. Back to video gaming, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 was rightly praised for its playability, scene setting visuals and score, by Nima Fakhrara and Steve Molitz. Like the third-person shooter itself, the music is thick with atmosphere and dark enough to reach out and touch the density. Moody and apocalyptic, this probably isn't for the dinner party, but there's a time and a place nonetheless.

Review: F.M. (Francois Marche) and Fa_Fane (Stephane Bodin) say they "perform live with an acid-tinged electro-dub set, a danceable balance between the organic and the digital, the hot and the cold." When it comes to the studio, the fine line they tread between machine and human, accessible and experimental is equally evident, making them sure fire winners in the world of movie soundtracks. Not least when the film is on the avant garde side of things, as Fotogenico is. Directed by Marcia Romano and Benoit Sabatier, the movie is a visually arresting, high tempo collage of a chase-mystery in which a father attempts to piece his dead daughter's story together using only the music she recorded. Glitchy, digi-dub and synthesised post punk ensues, among other stuff.
