Review: Sub Basics's album Sentient Machines was a doozy that many DJs have been keen to see pulled apart and served up on 12" and now Sub Basics has obliged on his own Temple of Sound label. This new and heavily limited 12" features four cuts from it. 'Internet Explorer' is a silky deep techno workout with lithe rhythms and watery dub undercurrents, while 'Configuration' has heavier drums and eerie synth wisps that bring cosmic ambience to the fore. 'Firewall' then rides on tumbling broken kick patterns that keep you moving and 'Integer' (feat Pugilist) is all about the oscillating low ends and moody pads.

Review: Bait is a label run by Beatrice M that has built up a fine following for its digital releases and has also now made the successful move to vinyl. Sub Basics is next up and is a key UK figure in the deep dubstep scene who has had big support for his tunes on the likes of Lion Charge, Foundation Audio and Juan Forte from Ben U.F.O. and Kia. First up he links with Toura for the liquid rhythms of 'Cause' while 'Effect' gets more prickly with a ticking lead synth and deep underwater dub vibes. 'Call' brings some deft melody and more trance-inducing grooves while closer 'Response' is a nice and punchy dub techno cut with ice-cold hi-hats.

Review: Primeval dubstep movements straight from Osterreich. Sparking up a weighty cross-Channel dialogue between Carinthia and Brixton, this elusive artistic solar flare from Dubbing Sun is the latest to be added to a quickly amassed discography of somasonic tensions in the vein of amped-up dub, and its next step. Opening with the heraldic, sceptre-brandishing, Zion-bound rasta telos 'Rasta Bizniz', we hear a resolute reggae chant and detuned square wave move in armed lockstep. We find out exactly where this chosen inner circle has gone, meanwhile, on the B-sider 'Brixton', reversally revealing Zion to exist in the heart of Babylon, and pronouncing Brixton as the next concrete phase in the holy city's ineluctable unfolding. The B shimmers with its resonantly scraping hats, which in turn contour its sonorous basses of unstoppable force, painting a righteous picture of the South London enclave, forever in the process of breaking free from its historic manacles.

Review: Episcopalian dub (by an artist called Bishop, no doubt) graces our ears in a manner in which we never thought it might; this is the thirteenth 7” for furtive dub label Challenger Deep, and it truly is a vibe. The interdependent tracks, ‘Dub De Société’ and 'Flutes Of Bhutan’, provide alternate trakes on the modern, steppers and dubstep incarnations of the dub plodder form, and also inserting emotive underhands through the womp and cohesion. The former outlines a blueprint for the nominal dub diocese, with papally swung drums and synaptic pad surrounds / wavers; the latter track goes snareless, meanwhile, preferring the tricky movements of ‘passed 808s and complementary ambiences.
