Review: Belgian DJ duo 2ManyDJs make their music under the Soulwax alias. Whenever they do, it is arresting, seriously quality stuff. For this one the multi-genre mash up artists look to remix 'Cliche' by Charlotte Adigery and Bolis Pupul for the French label Because Music. Their first version is a typically textured, raw, ravey indie-techno workout with rugged beats and sleazy vocals lit up by bright strobes. After the instrumental comes 'Ceci N'Est Pas Un Cliche' which is a macho disco stomper with sliding hi hats and low-slung bass.

Review: Yam Who?'s ISM label come through with a four track slice of disco centric Futurism, featuring the man Yam himself alongside PBR Streetgang and Ron Basejam. It's the latter who takes the lead with a remix of Alena's "Changes" that sees her sultry vocal teased by a most excellent of analogue synth leads that splurges brilliantly across the crisp mid tempo chug. Yam Who? teams up with vocalist Natasha Watts for the similarly bottom heavy bump of "I'm In Love" which has a certain warehouse appeal to it. On the flip, PBR pay respect to the godfather of soul James Brown with the gritty flex of "J2thaB" with the sadly departed Mr Brown strangely sounding at times like he wants to go to Tesco. We always took him for a Waitrose man, but regardless this is probably the track you'll reach for most! Finally Brothers Young do their thing to a Trammps classic, with little more than the bassline retained. Big tip!

Review: 'Ubiquity' really is an all-star affair, at least by nu-disco standards. It started out as a revivalist, boogie-era disco groove crafted by Nicky Night Time, which was then tweaked and turned into a vocal number, before Breakbot added some killer string and horn arrangements. The results are spellbinding, all told, coming on like a future disco classic full of addictive vocals, colourful synths and authentic turn-of-the-80s instrumentation. The superb original mix comes with a trio of re-rubs: a loopy disco-house revision from The Magician, a more cosmic and spaced-out revision from Eric Duncan that recalls some of his work as Still Going, and a Metro Area-influenced re-wire courtesy of Lubelski.

Review: DJ Kawasaki fires up his tools and gets to work on a couple of tasty new edits here. The first is a slow disco mix of The Ananda Project's 'Cascades Of Colour' which is lush, low riding and built on loopy drums with silky synths that are finished with some sprinkles of cosmic melody up top. Sublime. Blaze's 'We Are One' then gets a special Fusion Funk Re-Groove mix which has more astral synth work ringing out from a tight and funk arrangement with lush bass lines and nice organic drums.

Review: A third release on the Serious Trouble label sees Benedikt Frey return to the fold and share sides with Aufgang B, a new project from Berlin-based producers Alexander Arpeggio (spAceLex) and Cid Hohner. It's the latter who take the lead, laying down a rugged midtempo cut of faltering machine funk which wouldn't sound out of place in a set from Lena Willikens. With a full debut pencilled in on Vienna label NeuBau, expect to hear more from Aufgang B over the coming months. Previous contributions to Serious Trouble from Frey have shown the German has a clear sense of humour and that's evident on "Drop The Funk" which comes across as a weed addled homage to Zapp.

Review: The Super Disco Edits stable returns to action with a new set of edits, two disco-leaning versions of B & The Family's disco classics. The first is the instantly recognisable "A Good Time", a disco bomb like no other and exactly the sort of tune that makes people think of the word 'party'. On the flip, "You're Gonna Love Me" is more of a boogie monster reinterpreted and juiced up with some extra electro power in its low-end and, of course, its chunky beats and percussion to create that added dance floor effect. Tha bomb!

Review: Although operative in the early 1980s, the quality of B & The Family's boogie-era soul recordings only became evident five years ago when the Super Disco Edits label unearthed and issued a couple of their previously unreleased recordings. These two never-before-released jams come from the same period. A-side 'Count on Me' is simply superb: a squelchy and soulful electrofunk number of the kind that were frequently released in the early '80s by the Solar System and Salsoul labels. Flipside 'Magic' is a little fuzzier and hazier - in part because it was probably transferred from a partially damaged tape - but no less impressive, delivering an attractive blend of dewy-eyed male lead vocals, elastic slap bass, colourful synthesizer sounds and dreamy chords.

Review: Adam Mori aka B.Bravo is back like a thick gush of smoke filling up the dance floor, and the Brownswood-Bleep associate is in no mood to wait till the warm up set is done. These two new smokers for the Bastard Jazz imprint are pure class, every bit as sexy and seductive as we've come to expect from the producer, starting with the sultry claps and bass of the excellent "Im For Real", a sun-scorched killer of a tune, fit for riding shotgun and turing the rooftop down. On the flipside, Mr Carmack detunes "Stay The Night" down to a funky, mid-tempo level, and it's just about the grooviest of boogie tracks that we've heard in a while. Think Daft Punk meets Willie Hutch. Wonderful.

Review: B Edits is a new imprint dedicated to updating, reworking, and fleshing out classic disco jams that lack that little something when it comes to being deployed on modern dancefloors. It kicks off with an in-house producer or production outfit offer up two such tunes on a limited 12". 'Give It' is a super sumptuous deep house sound for late night lovers with the voice of the one and only Sade singing about surrendering your love. It's irresistibly steamy and sax-laced. On the flip, 'Hold It' is a little more upright but with a disco vocal that is just as buttery smooth.

Review: B+'s B-Beat Classic is originally from 1983. It is an early hip-hop and electronic fusion with some great talk-box vocals and a loose-limbed mix of percussion and drums. It moves slowly and purposefully, with scratches over the top and unhinged funk soon permeating your body. Leftover tape was used to create the effects and original copies have a note that the tune was dedicated to a first generation Boston disco DJ named Jim Stuard whose career was cut short by the Everard Baths fire in New York City in 1977.

From the moment those crisp guitar plucks shimmer and ripple across "Disco Inn" you know you're in for a treat. "Undercover Lover" digs deeper with an electro boogie groove while "Kaffibarinn" steps up with an Italo dynamic that's just as future-focused as it is heritage rooted. Review: Heavyweight sunnyside nostalgia from Whiskey Disco faces old and new. Icelandic BG does what he does best and work a sample until it's looped so well you could listen to it for days on end. The highlight of his couplet being the sweet subtly filtered take on Passion's "Don't Stop My Love" on "Astarjatning". Closed Paradise takes us much deeper into the night with the sexier, groove-focused "Breakin' Down" while "Wolf Sisters" closes the show on a reflective, slo-mo minor key note. Review: Phantasy unveil the second round of strange but wonderful electronica from Brazilian newcomer Babe, Terror - this time on fancy purple streaked white marble vinyl. And it's a welcome return for Duke Dumont as well, with the far from prolific producer demonstrating a new found appreciation of creeped out techno paranoia on his remix of "Epicentro". The Duke has always demonstrated a penchant for composition that sits far beyond his contemporaries and the gargling acid drop that grows to end this remix proves to be captivating. Memory Tapes also contributes a remix, transforming the vocal oddity of "Havai" into a track that starts off sounding like Pantha Du Prince before growing into a multi faceted slice of modern electro energy.

Review: Acting like the latter excesses of post Justice electro house never happened; former Bang Gang acolytes Bag Raiders used their recent eponymous debut album for Modular to present a Vitamin D infused take on synth heavy electro pop dosed up on disco bliss. "Sunlight" is the second single to be culled from that set with the joyful vocal turn from Dan Black matched by the euphoric thrust of the Bag Raiders musical backing. The accompanying remix from house music heavyweight Armand Van Helden is surprisingly faithful to the source, adding some bump to the beat and embellishing that distinct burning lead melody with a few degrees more heat. This release should really be praised however for enticing the criminally unprolific Tiedye into the studio for a remix which realigns the track to a whole new approach - filled with all manner of new instrumentation which only serves as further notice of the duo's obvious talent.

Review: One of Denmark's key figures in electronic music and club culture since the 80s, Bager's been whittling the cosmic stick before many of us were out of short trousers. His collections and connections allow him to create and curate some seriously distinctive and unique mixes and collections. Case in point: his recent Sunset Sessions mix. Far too good to just live online, he's created a series of highly limited 12"s featuring numerous mix highlights. Part one includes the Mr Fingers style soul of Bell Tower's Pet Shop Boys tribute, the Gainsbourg-esque whispers of Mathieu Boogaerts and the deep dream samba of Bongo Ent. If you've heard the mix, you'll already know how beautiful these tracks are. Grab them while they're hot.

Review: Kris Baha had a big year in 2019 with the release of his debut album on CockTail d'Amore and an EP on Pinkman, and now the Australian body music man in Berlin is back with a high-pressure heater for [Emotional] Especial. "Barely Alive" is the kind of sinewy proto-industrial cut that will appeal to fans of Ministry's earlier work, when the synths reigned supreme and there was pop to match the noir. Especial then call on a cast of remixers to interpret the track in different ways, from Timothy J Fairplay amping up the dystopian disco tropes to Das Ding creating a sleek electro-funk twist with the original's gothic undertones intact.

Review: This officially licensed 12" sees prolific British disco producer Ben Gomori take a scalpel to two cuts from veteran African musician Amadou Balake's 2015 album, In Conclusion. On side A you'll find a fantastic, eight-minute extension of the breezy shuffler "Bar Konon Mousso (Musicien C'est Pas Quelqu'un)", where snaking saxophone solos and sun-kissed, juju style guitars rise above a hot-stepping, bass-heavy groove. Review: Cosmic don Baldelli commences a new six part project that will culminate in a mix and some beautiful six-piece 12" sleeve art collage. Igniting as he means to go on, each cut shakes and struts with distinctive aspects of Daniele's signature style: "Thyratron" is a ballroom jazz anthem-in-waiting with lavish piano splatters over an insistent disco chug, "Diffrazione" takes us much deeper into Baldelli's psyche with soaring, heavily processed guitars and synths freaking out over a pulsating bulbous bass bed while "Inner Light" brings us back into reality with a mildly Nordic piece of pop-oriented disco, all sensual, breathy vocals and a twinkling synth groove. Review: Cosmic Drag precedes the most intriguing of forthcoming releases; a full album of original material from cosmic disco pioneer Daniele Baldelli for Japanese label Endless Flight. Baldelli is of course no stranger to the album format, but recently he's largely been seen colluding on LPs with his prolific compatriot Marco Dionigi. Whilst the full details on the album are as yet unannounced, Cosmic Drag will keep any current disco selectors more than satisfied with four cuts that cover various moods and tempos. The title track is a soaring Italo number that should be used as evidence when people ask you to define cosmic disco, whilst "Desmodromico" has a touch of the vintage In Flagranti grot about it. "Lowride" slows the pace down, with Baldelli riding a killer slo-mo funk groove and "Mooneyes" is as star gazing as the name suggests.

Review: For those with an interest in the lefttield side of European disco, the recent renaissance of legendary Italian DJ Daniele Baldelli has been an exciting development. For those outside of Northern Italy, Baldelli remained a marginal figure for many years. Although he - and, it could be argued, compatriot Beppe Loda - invented the "cosmic disco" sound in the late 1970s and early 80s, it's only in the last decade that the sound has been celebrated across the globe. This collaborative EP with fellow Italian spinner DJ Rocca is his first release since 2009. It sees the duo give contemporary nudisco a fresh new twist, adding obvious Italo, cosmic and old skool electro influences. Nowhere is this more evident than on lead track "RoBa Che Scotta", where the veteran duo add simplistic, stargazing melodies to a rough, appregiated groove. There's beauty within the heavy analogue beats and bassline, but they never lose sight of the dancefloor. Ichisan provides a slightly grubbier, disco-centric rework for those who dig straight-up nudisco. The EP finishes with the title track. Similarly melodic and intergalactic in its construction, 'Space Scribble' has an endearing, child-like quality thanks to a sprightly mix of original electro beats, swirling chords and analogue synth riffery. It's a great end to Baldelli's best EP yet.

Review: Chug factor set to stun, two outright disco legends team up on Nein for three slabs of wriggling, giggling analogue fun and one remix. "Kachiri" is quite the head-turner, all psychedelic and densely weaved with meandering top lines that counter against each other. "Pink Ghost" is a much darker slice, conjuring up echoes of early Black Strobe with its detuned undertones and stately risers while "Volupia" rolls on a broken beat rhythm with sweeping pads and cool 808 clicks and whirrs. Tronik Youth takes care of closing duties with a deeper, darker take on "Kachiri". With the trippiness switched for drones and a ploughman kick drum, it's yet another gold star for the Nein Records boss.

Review: Leng Records welcomes cosmic disco legend Daniel Baldelli back to the label a year after his much loved full length with Marco Fratty. This time out he serves up Alloteva, a first joint release with Marco Diongi for the label. Baldelli always manages to show a different look with each and every release and this one is no different - it offers big, cowbell laced cosmic disco with plenty of loose limbed drums and throbbing synths. 'Alloteva' opens up with a patter of toms and congas and squelchy bass, then 'Deflector' sinks deep and low, with seductive pads and balmy sunset sax lines. There are playful funk riffs underpinning 'Sonora' and leggy kicks and snappy hits making 'Time Is Plastic' a real chugger.

Much like the duo's debut for Let's Get Lost, this new edition packs a hefty eight cuts spread across the two platters and from the cosmic leaning of opening cut "Frozen" Daniele and Marco run the gamut of spiky disco punk ("Gregory Band") full on psyche rock ("Noia Noia") and everything in-between. Fans of vintage In Flagranti disco sleaze will particularly enjoy the glamorous strut of "Hello".

Review: Cosmic master and eclectic DJ trendsetter Daniele Baldelli is back with more Cosmic Voodoo in the form of this new series of releases alongside Mattia Dalara. 'Saturn Express' gets underway with a typically diverse set of influences from psych rock guitar to disco drums and cosmic exploration. 'Countless Sigga' is a playful sound with 80s synth seances looked over drums with a hint of Afro charm and fat disco basslines. Last of all is the wonderful 'Silverado Trail' with its hypotonic lead, crunchy and chuggy ALFOS style drums and percolating arps which shine as bright as the sun.

That's certainly what you get here, as the Afro-cosmic pioneer once again joins forces with regular studio partner Marco Dionigi. Review: Hell Yeah call up a host of well known disco, downtempo and Balearic names for this special four-track 12". First up is Enzo Elia's extended synth-heavy twist on "Follow The Beat". A true star-gazer, it's the ultimate elevator for any floor lost deep in the dance. Next up, "Reason & Logic", a smoky slice of modern jazz soul laced with dubby bass and a strange distorted guitar lead buried deep in the background. "Entity" flips the deep house switch with lazy keys, big airy pads and an infectious vocal loop. Somerville & Wilson complete the set with an Italo-flavoured Balearic gem; all mild acid and 80s synth textures, it's ultimately timeless. Mercifully, there's not a trace of gabba in sight.

Review: Four years ago, Super Disco Edits unearthed a stash of previously unreleased solo recordings by sometime Revelation member (and session vocalist on countless classic disco and boogie hits) Phillip Ballou. Having released just two of those songs - the brilliant 'Ain't Nothing Like The Love' and 'Nothing For Real'- back in 2017, they've finally decided to offer-up two more. A-side 'We'll Be Together' is particularly impressive, with Ballou adding his silky, effortlessly soulful vocals to a sparkling backing track that adds spacey synthesizer sounds and cosy female backing vocals to a Philly Soul inspired groove. Over on the flip, 'I Need You' is a sugary but heartfelt ballad in which Ballou is accompanied by little more than an electric piano and a few sustained synthesizer chords. It's a spine-tingling combination.

Review: Fresh from inspiring the global disco community with a tasty debut 7", Portuguese duo the Bam Jam band (AKA Pedro Teneiro and Sergio Alves) return with a similarly impressive sequel. A-side 'Keepin' On' is a genuinely killer workout - a low-slung bass guitar-propelled chunk of revivalist dancefloor disco-jazz rich in sustained organ chords, funky Clavinet licks and restless, Latin-influenced piano riffs and solos. The duo's love of memorable basslines comes to the fore once more on 'Something About Love', a more languid, picturesque and bittersweet affair in which slow, eyes-closed piano patterns and squelchy synths stretch out across a relaxed mid-tempo groove. An artist to watch in 2025 for sure.

Review: In 2011, Banda Achilifunk & OJO served up Gitano Real, one of the year's most essential albums. It was caned far and wide by funk lovers, in particular Craig Charles on his 6 Music show. Now, two cover versions taken from the essential album have been pressed to limited edition translucent yellow vinyl. First up, 'I Believe in Miracles' is an overwhelming take on the Jackson Sisters classic with plenty of happy Latin vibes and rumba funk rhythms. Flip it over for a more abstract version of McFadden and Whitehead's seminal 'Ain't No Stoping Us Now' which is a soulful disco number packed with sunshine.

The expansive Spanish crew's baggy, sun-kissed and rumba-soaked Latin disco cover of the Jackson Sisters' classic is perfectly pitched, adding layers of crunchy Clavinets and punchy horns to a sumptuously summery groove. Over on the flip we get two different takes on McFadden & Whitehead classic "Ain't No Stopping Us Now": a decidedly Balearic Spanish language cover ("No Nos Pararas"), and an instrumental cover full to bursting with superb grooves and even more scintillating horn solos.

Review: Banda Male was a collective that formed in a home studio in Salerno, one of the historic districts in the South Italy. It was the initiative of composer and keys man Peppe Maiellano and rapper, DJ and producer Tonico Settanta. The rest of the cast is ever rotating and the music they make is a lively mix of disco, funk and soul with signature Italo melodies. This new single is taken from their June 2021 album UFO Bar and is a low slung number with a steamy vocal and a somewhat sleazy bassline. 'Living Disco Club' (Tonico 70 Reloved) then slows it down further with even more twirling melodies.

Review: The Nuearth Kitchen label haven't put out a lot of records, but everything they do release is always worthy of closer investigation - see that killer Madteo 12" last year for proof. Their latest project is their most in-depth to date, with Parisian duo Baptiste & Pierre Colleu remixed by a cast of talent. Part one features the duo's original of Dolphin Kid, a suitably Gallic piece of throbbing techno which is a potential World Unknown anthem in the making. Coyote takes it into the realms of percolating Balearica with his remix, while the unstoppable Willie Burns delivers a haunted house rework sounding like the kind of ethereal material that you'd expect from his kraut-inspired Black Deer material. Finally, Jon McMillian's "Sea World" mix takes things into psychedelic minimal territory, as fluid synth textures flow across delicate rhythms.

Review: Sandy Barber's 'I Think I'll Do Some Stepping (On My Own)' came as part of 'The Best Is Yet To Come', the singer's 1978 album epitomising her influence over the genre of disco-soul. Now two remixers, OPOLOPO and John Morales, lead the charge in fleshing ever more joy out of this righteous original. 'You think you're so smart, well you're mistaken', goes Barber's refrain, as OPOLOPO's rework brightens nearly element to gaussian overload. John Morales' version, meanwhile, is much more emotive and belting, happily laboured in its faux-unquantized production.

Review: Supply Records returns with a seventh release which finds Will Martin make his label debut and build on the budding production partnership with John Barera, which commenced with a standout contribution to a various artists 12" on Dolly last year. Much like "Reality" from that aforementioned release on Steffi's label, the four tracks here commence on a disco flecked tip with "Awake" which is filled with driving soulful strings and cracking drums. Classic Rhodes punctuate "Say It Now" whilst the flip shows a different side to the pairing with "Unknown Factor" heading into stab heavy techno territory, whilst title track "Yen" displays Martin and Barera's mastery of haunting atmospheres. Supply meets demand once again!

Review: The Best Records reissue campaign continues unabated as the Italian label turns to Bariocentro. While the band may have had most of their time in the spotlight in the late 70s, they bowed out with a veritable bomb in the shape of Tittle Tattle, a tightly-wound, punchy slice of uptempo 80s boogie like they just can't make any more. Feel the reverb on the handclaps, the slick guitar chops and Moog-tastic bassline and just try not getting down. This plush reissue comes packed with the radio edit, the full length version, the instrumental and everyone's favourite slice of 80s B side action, the dub mix.

Review: Some nice 10" business here from Italian duo Cristian Croce and Nicola Mazzetti, aka Barking Dogs. "Mouth To Mouth" is characterised by some tasty drum fills, low slug bass, plenty of nice percussion and an omni present vocal sample. A refreshingly live sound to this! Pressed up in the peculiarly limited number of 399, and supported by the likes of Blackjoy, Cosmo Vitelli, Trevor Jackson, anhd Daniel Wang. Good fun from start to finish.
