Two Birds (4:59)
New Horizons (5:36)
Nymphs (4:51)
Coastal Waves (4:49)
Tongue Of The Ocean (4:12)
Review: After completing a hat trick of essential releases with "Seaside Tune", Russia's king of lilting melodies, coastal flavours and sunkissed sounds returns with his latest must have release. Back once again on his own Mellophonia imprint, A Vision Of Panorama invites us aboard his luxury yacht for a carefree journey across the ocean. Opening with the animalistic chatter of the Brazilian cuica and a chirping synth melody, "Two Birds" instantly transports us to tropical climes where the breeze plays among the palm trees and the clear waters kiss the white sand. Title track "New Horizons" sees the tempo drop to a languid strut as the fretless bassline takes our dancing bodies under its control. The bright tuned percussion, misty pads and mystical woodwind offer light and shade at the top end, while that Balearic beat should keep the dancefloor moving. As we follow the suns arc onto the B-side, A Vision Of Panorama turns up the heat and the tempo for the beachside proto-house peach "Coastal Waves". The deep and warm...

Around The Bend
Riding
Review: 'Around the Bend' is soft rock for hard times brought to you by Universal Cave. Bongos high in the mix, a breezy beginning builds towards guitar glistening over a mega kind groove. A tune fit for hang gliders, rock climbers, and summer Sundays. Sunsets and sailboats. Slow grooves for mellow moods. Side B's 'Riding' is flipside meets ripside, no nonsense shredding over a driving drum beat. Long haired beardo disco rock that never quits.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Fresh from 1986 - and recently re-edited by John Talabot - documents do not get any more Balearic than this.... Spanish trio Ishinohana's debut album is rich in cosmic attitude. At points daydreaming while the sand laps at its toes (the lilting nylon strings and soft padded hand drums of "Lucia", the overlapping guitars and galloping refrains of "La Flor De Piedra"), at others a much darker, more spacious star-gazing affair (the Arabic dreams of "El Beso Negro") and at others a heavier rhythmic, floor-minded approach (the lolloping bass and reggae-wise strums of "Variacion 23") this is a timeless document that befits situations and sceneries that existed long before this record was conjured up... And will remain so for generations after. Stunning.

Madrugada (7:26)
The Big Boobs (6:38)
African Obsession (11:55)
Review: Uber bring the new Mushrooms Project EP. A slight diversion for Uber into the cosmic afro infused musical stylings that the Mushrooms boys are masters. Madrugada's tribal energy is reminiscent of Tony Esposito or Tullio de Picopo. The Italian afrobalearic groove that we at Uber love so much. The Big Boobs is a slower more contemplative track, still holding onto the percussive feel but with hints of the east. I suspect the title is influenced by last summers trip to the Great Outdoors in Birmingham. Finally we come to the epic musical journey that is African Obsession. Continuing the fine Italian tradition of tribal dance music this is a tight superbly produced trip into afrocosmiche. 15 minutes of hypnotic beauty. Uber hitting the spot again.

Brasil (4:57)
Brasil (Abels Gavea mix) (6:08)
Brasil (Maciek Sienkiewicz live At The Fazenda mix) (7:16)
Review: The mysterious Dream Lovers arrive on Uber with the super mellow Brasil. A tropical reggae disco tinged Balearic shuffler, all loose percussion and soft guitars. Reminiscent of Studio in their heyday. Abel from the Redlight Records crew dims the lights and strips the og back. Layback and feel the sunshine on your eyelids. The second remix comes from Maciek Sienkiewicz of Very Polish Cut-Outs. A quirky almost off beat stripped back version bringing out the guitars and adding extra synths pads. Uber warming us up with some Balearic heat.

The Unknown Cases - "Memo Walk"
Projekt X - "Ich Brauch Ein Bischen Zärtlichkeit"
Dominik Von Senger - "Track Of Sample"
Francesco Agostini - "Ba-Ba-Ba"
Die Art - "A.N."
Stefan Thelen & Olek Gelba - "Der Weg Nach Innen (Aussen)"
Review: Emotional Rescue returns to the post war music of West Germany and the work of Dominik Von Senger and his cohorts based around the Dunkelziffer project. This special "Sampler" EP of recordings was produced as their part in Cologne's Stollwerck art complex, that acted as a home and inspiration to their musical experiments. Based within the disused industrial warehouses spaces of Stollwerck, a mix of post-hippies, punks and anarchists created a community within that fed off each other's artistic endeavours. While given space rent free, a requirement for the musicians centered around Dunkelziffer, The Phantom Band and The Unknown Cases, was to provide a collection of music for release on a compilation album to highlight its work. Released in 1985, the "Off Record No.1 Stollwerck Sampler" LP contained a collage of post-punk, krautrock, dub and avant-garde music and here on this special 6 track 12", a condensed Stollwerck Sampler EP is presented some 30 years later. Starting with the almost undiscovered Memo Walk by The Unknown Cases (see EES016), here they eschew their afro-cosmic sound and turn in a deep jazz fusion funk jam that wouldn't look out of place during Miles' "On The Corner" period, except with a krautrock metronomic kick. One of the challenges of this Sampler was what to leave out. The tracks that make up the rest of the EPs first side highlight what the project was really about. The one-off Project X and Dominik Von Senger's wonderful solo piece, Track Of Sample, are the sounds of a collective in full hair down, experimental productions where all is thrown in to the melting pot and see where this goes. The second side is more of the same and could easily of appeared on the Dunkelziffer "Retrospective" (ERC007/8/9) reissues. However, this shouldn't be dismissed lightly. This is mesmeric music that captures a time and place perfectly. Whether Die Art or A.N really ever existed beyond this studio concept is irrelevant. The Stollwerck Sampler EP captures that moment, for this moment.

Spirit Of Ssanyu
Review: Having been uncovered by International Feel late last year, the archival Balericisms of Len Leise now make their way over to the similarly minded Aficionado label. The five tracks on this dashing red 12" were apparently sourced from a rare cassette of rainforest swelter, and it's up to you, the consumer, how much of your time you invest in this fanciful backstory to Leise's work. Should you choose to put it to one side, you will be rewarding with a wondrous array of delicate electronics and organic instrumentation that is wholly captivating from the moment "Asmat Images" locks into groove. As with previous output on Aficionado, this won't be on the shelves for long!!

We Start Over (6:21)
We Start Over (Apiento & LX remix) (8:17)
Review: The first of two International Feel 12" releases from Steve 'Fila Brazilia' Cobby and vocalist Trudie Dawn Smith continues the label's peerless run of pushing the odder strains of disco in 2015. Cobby's role as part of Fila Brazilia on the development of UK electronics shouldn't be understated, and he's really found a recent creative streak with his solo productions - see last year's fine Everling album issued through his Declasse label. The original version of "We Start Over" finds Cobby taking a back seat, laying down a wonderfully understated arrangement for Dawn Smith's gorgeous vocal to shine over. Complementing this, Testpressing type Apiento teams up with Lexx for a remix that ups the chug factor markedly.

Review: Raze de Soare bears all the signifiers of Future Nuggets' trademark "maneletronics" - taking cues from the bustling but traditional Romanian l?ut?reasc? - the Oriental motifs, the nostalgia and longing, mixed with 20th century electronics, a sort of psychedelic 70ties or 80ties chilled sound, starting off with dope bass and squeaky synth sounds. It could be made in the retromania of present day, as well as dug out from the vaults of Romanian synth pop. - Easterndaze

Tall Shadows Walking Hom (7:02)
Twenty Types Of Dusk (5:47)
Review: IIB reach their 40th release with label stalwart Max Essa's latest EP. Feel The Machine is a proto-house groove with touches of italo-disco. Chugging bassline and cowbells making it a real dancer. Panapolean Dreamer is a more downtempo beat driven affair with eastern strings on a mellow new beat vibe. The second side starts with Tall Shadows Walking Home. Again max explores the proto house sound all smothered in lovely electronic melodies. Twenty Types Of Dusk relaxes the tempo again. Trademark Max Essa Balearic. A killer ep. to celebrate 40 12" releases.

See Mr Through (feat Diane Birch)
Thought Our Love Was Strong (Romanowski vs Bing Ji Ling remix)
See Me Through (Coyote Dub mix)
Review: Uber Recordings' latest release see the legendary Bing Ji Ling make an appearance. See Me Through featuring the sweet vocals of Diane Birch is a sunkissed slice of California soul. A beautiful heartfelt love song oozing quality. Live instrumentation and a tight arrangement creating a real classic song. The second track, the Romanowski remix of Thought Our Love Was Strong is something a little different. Tropical digital reggae vibrations all over Bing's sweet soulful smokey vocals.and bluesy guitar. West Coast Collie weed poolside stylee.
The B side is Coyote's reworking of See Me Through. Throbbing disco sub bass loops and dubbed out vocal samples with extra percussion and funky guitars layering over house beats build up to a vocal break down, before dropping back in with all guns blazing. Big smiles and dancing guaranteed.

Mapa De Soledad (Len Leise remix) (5:30)
Mapa De Soledad (original album mix) (4:24)
Review: Gurevitsch could make a nylon string weep at 20 paces, such is his finger picking charm. Here we find him delivering two immaculate instrumentals where the background rhythm is simply a backbone for his spell-binding playmanship. "Mexican Margarita" is a frenzy of emotion and Latin passion while "Mapa De Soledad" is a much more subdued, emotional affair where Jacob's picking is complemented by perfectly accordion and blues harp leads. Remix-wise Tonovi (who previously remixed Jacob on MFD a few years back) adds a dubby, synth-shimmering twist while Len Leise ensures the Balearic factor of Jacob's skill is brought to a zenith with sandy toed charm.

Oxwich (4:50)
Solstice (4:11)
Tisno (7:16)
Review: Manchester's Aficionado label passes on the blunt to Stratus. Self-professed purveyor of "warped soundtracks, fuzzed-out psychedelia and Balearic tendencies", it's hard to argue with him when you listen to this one. On the first side is "Axis" with its spaghetti western vibes spread out over a chilled out and funky break. "Oxwich" is utterly sublime and utilises the sounds of a dreamy acoustic guitar on this imaginary film score. "Solstice" is the blissed out trip-hop vibes of yesteryear, but executed pretty damn well. Finally "Tisno" with its nice bongo rhythms and boogie bassline over dreamy early eighties synth work is as good as anything Max Essa's done.

Horizon (Maricopa remix) (6:19)
Review: Hot on the heels of his Whiskey Disco EP, Mathieu Cle continues to the soundtrack the summer of his life with two more blissful, shimmering slices of Balearica. "Horizon" unravels by way of lush breezy pads and slippery guitars and easy-flowing keys that gradually take more and more of the spotlight, like a welcomed ship sailing closer and closer. "Night Motel" is takes us deeper into the evening with light skippy breaks and subtle samplecraft. Remix-wise The Project Club deconstruct "Horizon" and rebuild it with the same crisp psych rock tones as Pacqua might do while Maricopa goes right back to the late 80s with full emphasis on the synthetic strings and flutes. Paradise is open for business once again...

Review: This debut album from The Very Polish Cut-Outs stalwarts PTaki has been a long time coming, having originally been mooted for release back in 2013. It's clearly undergone many changes since then, but the Warsaw-based act's formula - samples of obscure Polish music, plus analogue beats and old-fashioned studio trickery - remains in tact. Przelot is an impressive set, all told, with sinewy, organic-sounding Balearic gems (see the classical guitars of blissful closer "Jelitkowo" and sun-kissed "Girlcandy") being joined by more adventurous, drum machine-based cuts that variously doff a cap to out-there dub (the brilliant "Nie Zabijaj"), slow acid (the equally inspired "Ostani Kurs"), and impossibly intoxicating downtempo jazz ("Juz Kocham Cie Tyle").

Leonardo takes the lead; new the label, within seconds of hearing the sleazy, low-slapping bassline and purring vocals of "(It's A) Long Way" and the dreamy star-gazing synth arpeggios, epic guitar solo and filmic drums of "Cosmic Summer" you'll understand why he's also appeared on Claremont and Is It Balearic? in the past. Review: RBMA alumni Ruf Dug ups the ante with his debut album. According to legend it was written during 12 weeks of island paradise in Guadeloupe. But as his previous work (all written in Manchester) is as beautifully Balearic as this, who can tell? Stretching his signature and a great sense of space throughout, he flexes from pretty raw, head-bendy dancefloor (the 2020 Soundsystem style build on "Speedboat" and the sprightly tech lollops of "Mosquito") to the film-like and vaguely discordant ("Mangrove Dub") via the totally immersive and alluring (the stunning, spine-melting overlapping arpeggios of "Shoreline"). Regardless of where he wrote it, it's a highly accomplished album... And perfectly timed for the sunny season.

Apollo Soyuz was originally released digitally earlier this year via bandcamp, but you can see why Leath would want to license it for a proper vinyl edition. The eight tracks form an exploration of the outer cosmos that is tinged with a deep psychedelia that will resonate warmly with fans of Emotional Response. From the space funk of the opening "Apollo Soyuz", Fuxa and Mackay lead the listener through galactic kosmische, spatial ambience and primal tape loop experiments and more with "Testz 1" a considered highlight.

For his latest outing, Bager has chosen Leo Mas to bring together a three-tracker representing the Balearic islands' charismatic sounds; "Dolce Luna (Part 1)" by Italy's Gianni Bella represents the A side with a funky disco beat reminiscent of Pino Daniele, while the B side is taken over by Moana Pozzi's "L'Ultima Notte", a slow and soulful kind of number, and "Gil (Voglia Di Terra)" by Ivano Fossati and Oscar Prudente, a lovely guitar and flute mashup over a subtle beat and gentle basslines.

Review: Uber picked up this beautiful mellowed out pop song by Shining Bird for a vinyl release after becoming totally captivated by its warm laid back Balearic feel. Shining Bird hail from Austinmer a coastal town just south of Sydney, Australia. They are a collective of friends who got together over their love of the sea, Australian cinema, Dennis Wilson's "Pacific Ocean Blue" Lp and the great Australian poet Henry Lawson. The second track Stitzing/Wipeout is another great alternative pop song in the same vein as Destroyer with the song blending into a 5 min piece of psyched out ambient. On the flip side Coyote remix Distant Dreaming into a horizontal percussion led dubby contemplative trip with pitched down vocals and a throbbing bassline. Uber continuing its crusade of finding and releasing music that captures their Balearic ethos.
