Wlad - "Lotus" (7:03)
Wlad - "Lotus" (Youandewan remix) (6:52)
Review: Parisian imprint HedZup has spent the last five years offering up a mixture of compilation-style 12" singles - many pressed to vibrantly coloured, patterned wax - and split EPs featuring a pair of producers. Their latest release sits in the latter camp, with each of the label co-founders showcasing their personal production styles. Mancini offers up 'A Merman', a rubbery, bouncing, warming and bass-heavy chunk of contemporary tech-house that's subsequently given a darker, creepier treatment by remixer Sepp. Wlad's 'Lotus' combines more elastic and bumpy beats with UKG organ notes and the spacey sonics of early UK tech-house. The accompanying Youandewan remix is a touch tougher and stranger, though it does make great use of Wlad's killer bassline and intergalactic electronics.

Woody McBride - "Garbage Eater"
Well Balanced Machine - "Mogadon"
D Rodell vs Lucinda - "Slave"
Timo Benz - "Climax"
Review: We are pleased to welcome to Drumworks a living techno legend Woody McBride. "Garbage Eater" is a deep deep deep builder that throws you into a dark sweaty room and rubs ya face in club ashtray leftovers. Not very pleasant but you know where you are. The second track, "Mogadon" is by Wellbalancedmachine and should you ever need to find out why this is called as its called; play with a dose of sleep deprivation and a couple of mogadons to get the message. Dean Rodell brings us the first track on the B-side as he has it out with Victim Records Lucinda. A tight groove that builds with an old school vocal sound that is manipulated to take the track up to another level. Full fuelled funk with a dash of Tabasco is the order of the day with this puppy. Finally for the EP, Timo Benz, one of the fastest rising talents out of Germany, brings the track "Climax" to Drumworks. The track shows exactly why he is building a name for himself. His tight productions and smooth arrangements allow his synths to glide around tracks like Torval and Dean. Timo's sound with "Climax" is a step above many newcomers to the scene adding a colour and style that many hardened pros would be proud of.

Review: This new Selector's Choice series is a collection of scorching hot reggae tunes from some of the best producers and artists to have ever done it, all cut to some fresh limited edition vinyl. The releases will, we're told, be focused on "compiling tracks of the same riddim that have never been released together" and as such will take in unreleased versions and brand new releases. These are all designed to be for heavy DJ use and the first volume is a great start with Freddie McGregor, Wailing Souls and Might Diamonds all laying down the heat.

Review: The mighty Lempuyang label returns with its annual compilation series, again this year split over two superb 12"s. Both of them feature a remastered track from the vaults and in the case of this EP that is the hotly in-demand 'Dubby Plug' by W Moon which is a potent, kicking dub techno cut freshly remastered for 2024. ElsewhereHydergine's 'Ultraviolet' is soulful Detroit-inspired machine music and Dubrovnik UK's 'Waves' fizzes with static electricity. Merv's 'Unity' is the vast, cavernous opener and might be the best of the lot

MJ Cole & Wiley - "From The Drop" (MJ's Drop Dubb)
MJ Cole - "Angel Riddim"
Review: Wiley spares some time from amusing all and sundry on Twitter to collaborate with the equally legendary MJ Cole. Released on the latter's Prolific label, "From The Drop" is purported to be the first of many collaborations and bodes well if this is the case, with Wiley on lyrical form, riding a skeletal beat from MJ Cole. Equally impressive is the accompanying remix from L Vis 1990 which sees the Night Slugs don deliver yet another unique remix. A cavernous, almost Basic Channel rhythmic thrust is complemented by rough round the edges beats and liberal spurts of acid. The MJ Drop Dubb on the flip will please those craving a preponderance of bass.

These tracks remaking their way to vinyl for the first time since they were reals don M-O-F's 1990 debut release, the private press Natural Vibe LP, which was also their last release. 'My Opposite Sex' opens with a loose and jumbled groove, tumbling toms and playful lyrics as well as myriad shooting disco synths and wonderful percussive sounds. On the flip is the early deep house of 'Trip City' with its sax lines, muttered vocals and siren sounds all underpinned by a killer lo-fi groove and taught bass stabs.

FloFilz - "Abhoerverfahren"

Review: After a couple of quality 12"s by Moomin and one tape release, Closer throws the net wide open to invite in a host of contemporary house heads to deliver outside of their usual remit with great results. Mr Tophat and Art Alfie spread themselves over the A side with the wildly processed and loosely stitched freak-out sample fest of "Vacation Bye Bye", which piles the drama on high with use of dusty old rips and riffs while keeping everything very distant indeed. On the flip Wun Two, FloFilz and Hubert Daviz have dropped a whole host of winsome beats enriched with soulful licks from old records (or at least it sounds that way), taping more into the Brainfeeder mood than anything, and it all fits together perfectly. If you dig the crossover styles of the Box Aus Holz crew then get on this.

The Dramatics - "Ocean Of Thoughts & Dreams" (4:37)
Review: Destination Motown for two Muro-curated classics: Jackson-collaborator Willie Hutch's 1974 horn-fest "Ain't That" still buzzes with soul power thanks to its full band orchestration and gutsy vocals from big Willie himself. The Dramatics play the consummate contrast; a Gibbs-style ballad from 77 all swoony and sweet, play this on a busy night and you'll increase the area's birth rate quite considerably.

Review: The Visionquest label has always operated at the more spaced out and trippy end of the techno spectrum. As it races onward towards a rather impressive 100 releases, this 90th outing is taken care of by N Um and Wareika. They soon get under your skin with the lithe synths and pulsing drums of 'Foundation' and 'Fragments Of Five' then cuts a little more loose with electronic jazz styles and a busy bassline coalescing perfectly. 'Kaizen' keeps the live feels coming with busy drum work and off-grid synth keys before closer 'Embrace' gets a little more deep but still brims with Rhodes magic.

Their classy Tempistica Mistica EP offers up a pair of richly percussive and Afro-Latin tinged house cuts that are primed and ready for deployment on the most cultured dance floors. Review: Initially released in honour of Record Store Day 2018, this tasty 12" boasts previously unheard "bonus mixes" put together by disco/house stalwart Joey Negro during work on the fantastic Remixed With Love albums. On the A-side, the Z Records chief lays down two versions of Lonnie Liston Smith's Loft classic "Space Princess", first offering up an epic, peak-time disco extension and then a brilliant beats version (the "Break Mix") that consists of little more than punchy percussion, trippy effects and bags of energy. Turn to the flip for Negro's impeccably delay-laden, New York style dub of Gwen McCrae's "Keep The Fire Burning" and a spine-tingling, sing-along rearrangement of Wardell Piper's lesser-celebrated disco-boogie classic "The Power of Love".

Review: Utrecht label Blackout first released Edge by German production team Neonlight and Wintermute as a five track digital EP back in March. The transition to the vinyl format for this 12" release sees the trio's work lose three of the tracks but the remaining two are potent enough to satisfy the needs of those craving some darker arts. Up top "Influx" rolls to a traditional drum and bass groove but Neonlight and Wintermute do it so well, but it's "Guinea Pig" that will delight the freakier selectors out there. Here the trio carve up all manner of broken beats, ragged percussion and razor sharp synths with the sort of aplomb that leaves you gasping.

Miquifaye Studio Rewerk (7:34)
Review: While many US producers from the second house wave of the 90s are looked at like demigods, others have remained partly in the shadows, and considerably underrated given their achievements. Anthony Nicholson is one producer who belongs to the latter category, but one which we've been supporting since day one of Juno. The man came to prominence thanks to a fruitful relationship with Ron Trent, and also to a whole heap of quality releases for known imprints like Peacefrog, Prescription, and Nite Grooves. This week, however, he's up on his own highly underrated Circular Motion, spear-headed by the excellent "Miquifaye Studio Rewerk", a tribal house groove with a deep, wondrous backdrop of synth exploration. "Beat Pad Apella" is a jazzier piece of music, an enticing house chiller with plenty of musical nuances that bounce off its full, intricate groove. Excellent - don't overlook this one...

Wink - "Click" (6:36)
Louiv - "Filter Analysis" (6:04)
Review: InTheBagg is a fledgling Californian label carrying some elegant strains of stripped back and melodious club music from a loose community of friends. You might not be familiar with all the names, but they've got a particular style they're pushing which warrants the attention of any dedicated digger. If you're into that Nicolas Lutz-esque sound, where minimal, electro, braindance and breakbeat can fluidly blend into one, you're going to love this label. Release number two sees J Onstott opening proceedings up with a hazy, pulsing pad and crisp drum lines, while 'Casper, My Daughter's Husband' strikes a wobbly breakbeat house tone with plenty of reverb. Wink (Will Fatorre, not Josh) has a warm and twinkling take on tech house with a little mystery in its bones, and Louiv wraps things up with a subtly spooky floor worker entitled 'Filter Analysis'.

That makes 'Um Balanco pra voce' by Os Rouxinois one of the oldest releases in Mr Bongo's Brazil45 series and it is also one of the best. Arnaud Rodrigues wrote the tune which is a superb mix of exotic funk, bossa nova rhythms and quirky melodies from a five-track 7" of tunes that the band originally used to play on TV. Predictably, Cold Readings, their latest compilation style affair, is another winner. The EP begins with a chunk of ultra-deep and icy electronica from Pera Sta Ori ('Passive Concealment') and ends with a deliciously raucous fusion of military-grade acid squelch and skittish, heavily edited jungle breaks (Scarlit Port's excellent 'Layla's Acid'); in between you'll find sleazy and chugging electronic paranoia from Shokh, some off-kilter acid-electro from Foreign Sequence, and some moody industrial breaks courtesy of Weith.

Review: The 62nd single in Mr Bongo's long-running Brazil 45s series is notable for containing Jose Prates' "Nana Imboro", a deep, hypnotic and intoxicating samba cut that was initially recorded and released way back in 1958. Relatively slow and steady by samba standards, its chanted refrain is thought to be the inspiration for Jorge Ben's much better known "Mas Que Nada". Wisely, Mr Bongo has backed Prates' sublime original with a 1960 cover by obscure Polish outfit Wroblewski Jazz Quintet. This dispenses with the chanting, instead increasing the number of intertwined horn parts. Given that original copies of the rare Polish EP it first appeared on will set you back serious money, it's great to see this fine cover included here.

Review: Remix maestro Ralph Lawson adds a third rework to Prophets Of Sound's "Tide Of Dreams", ten years after Ink Records commissioned the first set of remixes from the group's 2002 Circus LP. It's a hi-fi sound in comparison to the original; bringing the disco and string lead jam up to looping 2013 speed, as booming beats are worked into a French house groove. On the B-side, Lawson supplies a second gold dust mix to The House Crusaders, "May The Force Be With You", adding similar blips and synth work heard in Arthur Oskan's Beat Remix to Aux 88's "Soul Of Black". Also on the B-side is a rigid 20:20 Vision remix to Ralph Lawson & Carl Finlow's Wolf n' Flow project, which merges Masters At Work drum patches with a vocal similar to Yello's "Oh Yeah" - oh yeah.

Review: British disco veteran Dave Lee's Z Recordings presents Attack of the Dancefloor Vol.19, featuring some quality disco heat. First up on the A side is Prospect Park with a remake of the Cheryl Lynn classic "Shake It Up Tonight" on which the label chief himself serves up a Disco Reshake, followed by Wipe The Needle who get super lo-slung on the deep disco cut "On Time" (feat Sacha Willamson - WTN 4x4 mix). Over on the flipside, Amsterdam's dynamite duo Dam Swindle get deep down and dirty on a rework of Lee's own classic from way back "Garden Of Love".

The Inn House Crew - "The Contagious Riddim" (3:02)
AJ Franklin - "Solomon" (3:17)
Winston Reedy - "Hip Hip Hooray" (3:14)
Review: Producer Lewis M continues to make the most of his connections with the Inn House Crew, an all-star studio band made up of various veteran Jamaican reggae musicians. Here he presents an EP of "versions" built around the Inn House Crew's 'Contagious Riddim', which is included in a slightly spruced-up form - complete with additional solos and brighter mixing - as the A2 cut. Toaster Ras Ranger is the first to do his thing over the riddim, delivering nearly non-stop flows in his native patois, before AJ Franklin displays the riddim's versatility by turning in a soulful roots number ('Solomon'). Best of all, though, is Winston Reedy's effortlessly warming and soulful version, 'Hip-Hop Hooray'.

Real - "Don't Need Ya Love"
My Panda Shall Fly & Will Ward - "British Princess"
Decyfer - "Hoarder"
Liston - "Mindset"
Review: Only four releases into existence as a digital outlet and XVI offer up their first physical transmission with this Imitating Life 12" featuring two cuts from their recent 10 track compilation of the same name paired up with an equal dose of highlights from the label's small, yet well received discography. Proceedings get off to an undeniably effervescent start with the warm house/garage bump of "Don't Need Ya Love" from Real which falls right on the line between gem and crossover. Alongside it "British Princess" from My Panda Shall Fly and Will Ward transplants to vinyl having caused a Pitchfork induced stir upon release last year, skipping through disjointed, off kilter techno rhythmics, crunched up bass lines and unpredictable samples. Decyfer brings some weighty punch on the flip with the bass heavy, crisp deep house meets 2 step swing of "Hoarder" whilst Liston veers into Mr Beatnick territory with the deep burnt boogie house of "Mindset".

Review: Original Gravity have been hard at work putting together a third volume in their reggae Dynamite series. This one lines up another belting 45 featuring tunes from The Regulators - twice - Brentford Rd Soul Rebels and Woodfield Rd Allstars. All of the tunes have booming bass warmth and vintage organ riffs that just transport you to a time and a place, even if you didn't live it yourself. The drums rumble on like a fat bottomed elephant and the horns take a majestic lead. These are atmospheric tunes ready and waiting to get people moving and our standout is Woodfield Road Allstars' tribute to boxing legend Muhammed Ali.

Review: Original Gravity is run by label owner Neil Anderson, who has a tireless work ethic and superb devotion to ska, reggae, and everything in between. His love of boss rhythms comes to the fore once more here with new tunes from three pseudonyms - The Regulators, Woodfield Road Allstars and Prince Dolly - all of whom, in actual fact, are him. Regulators cut 'Why Why Why' opens up with a heavy bottom end, "Coast to Coast: has a big organ led groove and 'Why Dub Why' reworks the opening tune into a rocksteady roller. Essential repress this, do not sleep.

Review: We can't fault anyone for calling their EP Four Really Good Tracks just so long as it does indeed feature four really good tracks. This hand-stamped 12" from Terrazzo does just that with contributions from four different artists. Remotif's 'Ludovician' kicks off with a nice zoned-out tech roller for 4AM. Jay Gadian then steps up with 'Crisscrossing' which has a busier rhythm anymore searching synths smeared over the face of the groove. Reflex Blue's 'Mystic' is a busy workout with spiraling melodic refrains and a constant sense of cosmic takeoff. Wilt's 'Fractal Ceiling' then shuts down with acid laced deep techno.

Guri - "Beautiful Dreamer" (6:19)
Review: Having mostly used the Pleasant Systems label as a vehicle for his own productions, Tilman has decided to use the imprint's latest release to showcase the work of likeminded artists. He first turns to old pals Rhode & Brown, whose 'Call a Wave (Flute Mix)' sits somewhere between classic Italian dream house, the 'new age house' of Lamont Booker, and their own chunkier deep house workouts, before showcasing the classic-sounding, jazz-flecked New Jersey deep house style sounds of Nu Cleo ('Move'). Experienced producer Will Buck opts for a chunkier, hazier and more warming late-night deep house sound on 'These Emotions', while Guri's flute-sporting 'beautiful Dreamer' recalls the early works of French jazz-house great St Germain.

Review: Hamburg herberts Sozialistischer Plattenbau get busy with the 21st edition of their breakneck funk Dubcore series. This time label regulars We Rob Rave and Polish duo Riffz & Dubskint take a tune each per side. R&D's 'Like This' is straight from the book of 92, all big pianos and feel good flavours while WRR's 'Weedless Bacon' takes things into much darker territories. Flip for more hardcore solutions as 'Team Bird Up' goes full on 4x4 before Riffz & Dubskint sign out on some manic Dreamscape tip. Hardcore, we suspect you know the score.

The Dub That I Dub (3:45)
Review: As Whodemsound races towards its 50th outing, it presses up yet another great little 7", this time with Bopper Ranking delivering some great spoken word roots. 'The Man That I Am' is just under four minutes of super clean dub with digital synths adding a future-facing feel to the sultry horns that drift up top and the traditional dub rhythms that roll deep down low. The conscious lyrics make this an even more heady experience and on the flip is a dub version for those who prefer to whittle things down to the bare dub essentials.

Review: You can always count on Magic Wand to bring a classy edge to any edit they press, and their latest batch of re-rubs is no exception. There's a downtempo slink and Balearic haze to the tracks on offer here, leading in with RSS' Clandestine Dub' of 'Somebody Told Me' before Baz Bradley takes over with the piano-powerd paean to tripping, 'Acid Love Bath'. Secret Soul Society slip into something more comfortable as they sample Whitney Houston for 'When The Night' and then the CC edit of What I Am does some magic with an eternal Wham! banger.

W1B0 - "Utopia Planitia" (6:29)
TFHats - "IConnect" (5:30)
Slaves Of Sinus - "People Who Destroy" (5:40)
Review: UK stable Bass Agenda Recordings has been veritably killing it since they kicked things into motion back in 2013. Since then, it's been nothing but quality from the imprint, and all of it from a vast pool of hand-picked artists that have remained largely loyal to them. This time it's a collaborative effort between four emerging talents, all of them into the darker varieties of that inimitable electro-techno crossover. RXmode's "Lost" is a menacing, uncompromising techno bruiser with a bleek outlook on life, and this particular form of dystopia turns even darker and more chilling on "Utopia Planitia" by W1B0. For the B-side TFHats strips things back a little, still banging out the electro, but this time adorned by a more synth-heavy atmosphere, while Slaves Of Sinus from "People Who Destroy" offers a bouncy, playful electro cut for the dance. Sick.

Review: The mysterious Moondance has been receiving plenty of praise for his, her or their second EP on Local Talk, and it's easy to see why. In its' original form (B2), 'Never Find Love' sits somewhere between jazz-house, synth-heavy deep house and the kind of luscious, piano-heavy productions that Ron Trent has become famous for. Arguably even better though is the A-side 'Amen Mix', which brilliantly joins the dots between tech-jazz, early UK breakbeat house, Motor City deep house and Larry Heard style dancefloor bliss. Also worth a listen is bonus cut 'The Moon Dance (2020)', a jazz-funk-fired deep house number that's as luscious and life-affirming as it is spacey and loose-limbed. In a word: essential!

Review: Worldship Music recruit a varied and vital crew for this new series entitled Herald Traccs Volume 1. It's stuffed with interesting deep house for the more classy dance floors. Perennial favourite Santiago Salazar opens things up with some brilliantly jazzy and balmy chords over soulful beats, then Kelvin K comes through with 'En Echo' which skinks into a warm, cuddly and timeless groove with spoken words to send shivers down the spine. Review: There's naturally plenty to set the pulse racing on this second volume in Invisible Inc's Dancefloor Detonators series, which rounds up the most popular and club-ready cuts from the Scottish imprint's digital download releases. Secret Circuit sets the tone with the bleeping, angular, acid-fired wonky funk of 'Orchid Chips', before Bal5000 steps up with the analogue-rich, mid-tempo cheeriness of 'Neutra'. Deeper and more psychedelic waters are explored via the post punk-influenced dark disco throb of Wanda Krak's 'Spectral Beasts', while Feon's 'Round Earther' is a hugely hallucinatory, tribal tinged trip of epic proportions. To round things off, label regular Sordid Soundsystem steps up with the stomping, hard-wired, shroom-powered brilliance of 'Vuelta'.

The Sensations - "Those Guys" (2:24)
Winston Wright - "Moonwalk" (2:23)
Review: More classic rocksteady reissue action here, as the reborn Duke Records imprint delivers two more must-have cuts from the vaults of legendary Jamaican producer Arthur 'Duke' Reid. On the A-side you'll find the Sensations' 1968 single 'Those Guys', an organ-laden excursion where the group's sweet and harmonic vocals are a perfect match for the similarly sublime backing track. Turn to the B and you'll find 'Moonwalk' by pianist Winston Wright, a deep cut that sat unissued for well over 20 years before finally seeing the light of day on a 1993 compilation. It's well worth a listen, if only to admire the way that Wright's Hammond B3 solos seemingly dance majestically atop the chunky, trombone and clarinet-sporting backing track.
