Review: Motley Crue's Dr. Feelgood, celebrating its 35th anniversary with a special reissue on red and white splattered vinyl, stands as a pivotal moment in the band's career. Released in 1989, the album marked a fresh direction, with the band newly sober and working under the meticulous production of Bob Rock. His attention to detail elevated their sound, pushing them to refine their performances and embrace a more polished, melodic approach. The result is a powerful fusion of hard rock and commercial appeal, highlighted by iconic tracks like 'Dr. Feelgood' and 'Kickstart My Heart'. Mick Mars' razor-sharp guitar riffs, Nikki Sixx's prominent bass, and Tommy Lee's pounding drums all contribute to the album's electrifying energy. Vince Neil delivers some of his most dynamic vocal performances, particularly on the ballad 'Without You' and the infectious 'Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)'. Lyrically, Dr. Feelgood shows the band's newfound maturity, with songs like 'Time for Change' revealing a more introspective side. Yet, they don't stray far from their trademark themes of sex and rebellion, seen in tracks like 'Rattlesnake Shake' and 'She Goes Down'. The album solidified Motley Crue's status, topping charts and proving they could evolve without losing their edge. Dr. Feelgood remains a defining work in their legacy.

Review: Originally released in 1984, No Remorse would serve as a compilation album from London's homegrown metal legends Motorhead, marking the end of their time on Bronze Records. Following the departure of Brian "Robbo" Robertson and drummer Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor after 1983's Another Perfect Day, this would spell the end of the classic trio line-up which had already been shaken by the replacement of "Fast" Eddie Clarke by Robertson following 1982's fan favourite Iron Fist. According to Lemmy, the label were unhappy with his own personnel changes, lacking confidence in a new lineup they hadn't heard themselves, while once they announced news of a greatest hits-style compilation, the gravel-throated vocalist/bassist surmised it as "readying the death knell" for the group, hence his insistence on including new material as well as compiling the tracklist. Marking the first recordings from the next era of Motorhead featuring Lemmy alongside Phil Campbell, Wurzel, and Pete Gill, the band would enter London's Britannia Row Studios for a week in May 1984 to bang out their contributions - 'Snaggletooth', 'Steal Your Face', 'Locomotive', and most notably, 'Killed by Death', while the collection boasts all of their past iterations' essential bangers up until this point such as 'Ace Of Spades', 'Overkill' and '(We Are) The Road Crew'.

Review: First brought to the world's attention via a YouTube video posted on the Dangerous Minds blog, Khun Narin's Electric Phin band have risen from their origins playing wild, primal drone-based and percussive music as a soundtrack to the daily rituals of a small village in Thailand, through their own home-made PA system. The Phin of the band-name is a type of three-string lute, amplified by Fender pickups, and heavily affected. With the help of a blown-away Los Angeles-based producer Josh Marcy, field recordings were made of this initially sceptical troupe, and the result is sixty minutes of mesmerising trance-like rapture that exists strangely outside of place and time, resonating on a ceremonial level, yet also quite capable of showing the majority of Western 'psych' acts a few lessons on what it truly means to be psychedelic.

Review: Jazz pioneer Silje Nergaard's evolution continues with new album Tomorrow We'll Figure Out The Rest, which is a tender, richly orchestrated tribute to love, memory and family. Backed by her longtime jazz trio and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra with lush arrangements by Vince Mendoza, this one mixes up personal nostalgia with a real sense of timeless elegance. Inspired by cassette tapes from her childhood and classics like 'Lover Man,' it also includes a gorgeous Beatles cover ('Here, There and Everywhere') while highlights like 'A Perfect Night to Fall in Love' and 'Dance Me Love' really make a mark with their heartfelt sincerity. It's a dreamy, emotionally resonant work that anyone who enjoys sophisticated, romantic jazz-pop will adore.

Review: Bradford rockers New Model Army recorded this double album at Berlin's legendary SO36 venue, a major venue for punk and alternative music, up there with CBGB's. Leaning into their heaviest streak, the album captures the band at their energetic best. Perhaps it was the relief of having done one of the most challenging recording int heir history the day before playing with Sinfonia Leipzig Orchestra for the Sinfonia album but there's a visceral, heightened feeling to it. And hearing the crowd give it back to them with wild abandon adds to the sense of occasion on this epic career-spanning 19 song set.

Review: As well as being a dance music figurehead. Paul Oakenfold is a devoted film buff who brought cinematic flair to his soundtrack for Dominic Sena's action-thriller Swordfish. Crafting a moody, high-tech sonic landscape and blending the tense energy of Dope Smugglaz's 'The Word (PMT Remix)' with the chill sunrise vibes of Lemon Jelly's 'Kneel Before Your God' and his own electro rework of 'Planet Rock' with Afrika Bambaataa, Oakenfold paints a vivid picture of early 2000s Los Angeles nightlife. Tracks like 'Stanley's Tune' and 'Password' evoke neon-lit scenes of decadence and danger. Subtle yet imaginative, this record rewards headphone listening for max impact.

This French artist, who has captivated audiences with her collaborations alongside Mura Masa, Pomme and Flavien Berger, returns with a deeply personal album that explores the complexities of self-discovery and the search for meaning in a world obsessed with self-improvement. The album's title track, 'choke enough', is a poignant reflection on the need for connection and the pursuit of intense emotions. Oklou's warm, beautiful productions, a signature of her sound, conjure a liminal space where the boundaries between introspection and euphoria blur with delicate synthesiser arpeggios and found sound samples. 'family and friends', the album's first single, delves into the search for answers and the desire to escape from intangible memories. Oklou's lyrics, delivered with a vulnerable yet defiant honesty, capture the anxieties and uncertainties of a generation navigating a world where virtual and physical identities are inextricably intertwined. After gaining international acclaim with her collaborations and her critically acclaimed mixtape 'galore', Oklou's debut album marks a turning point in her artistic evolution, a bold yet introspective work that challenges listeners to confront their own anxieties and desires.

Review: Surreal, scratchy, corkboard dub dance beats for the in-betweeners and misfits of the world, laid down by Merseyside producer Ali Omar for Efficient Space AUS. Suitably named after that potently compressed and chunked form of cannabis known as hashish, the music here sounds about as sedatively stoned as is often the affective result of the drug. Omar brings a psychedelic, sample-based approach to the fold, with strobe-lit, basement smoke-clouds of kalimba, gong, vocal and async-bass all colliding on 'The Last Straw' and 'On Release', veering into floaty dub and red-eyed downbeat by the time of 'Poor Man Beggar Thief'.

Review: Orbital's debut album is classic album in the techno genre. A name that needs no introduction really, Orbital defined rave and techno through the 90s creatively and performance wise. This self-titled or as many know it by, 'The Green Album' features perhaps the most popular songs of the rave generation in 'Chime' and 'Belfast'. However, tracks like 'Midnight', 'Steel Cube Idolatry' and 'The Mobius' are the birthmarks of Orbital finding their sound that would turn them into Glastonbury legends and soundtrack pioneers. This edition is true to the original 2x12 making it desirable for those new to the album, those who want a second copy or those who want to complete their Orbital collection. Orbital's roots begin here and have them at their most raw. Do not miss out on having a part of rave history with this record!

Review: Even by the consistently high standards of Analog Africa, this release is something special. It consists entirely of previously unheard music by Orchestre Abass, an obscure outfit from Togo who released a handful of singles on Polydor Ghana in the early 1970s. Remarkably, all bar one of the tracks on "De Bassari Togo" were found on a long forgotten reel of tape that had sat on a shelf in a Ghanaian warehouse for the best part of 35 years. That was ten years ago; it's taken that long to track down the remaining members of the band and license the material. In truth, the tracks have aged exceptionally well, with the band's infectious, organ-led sound adding distinct Arabic influences (a result of the band members' time spent studying in Islamic schools) to their heavy funk rhythms and riotous Afro-funk vibes.

Review: Say what you will about Black Sabbath founding father turned solo metal don Ozzy Osbourne, he has never come remotely close to giving up. Even as ill-health resulting from decades of living the ultimate rock 'n' roll lifestyle - alcohol, drugs, eating bats - has crept up on him. As this sentence is written, reports are hitting the entertainment press that he was spotted leaving a recording studio in Los Angeles with wife Sharon, the 73-year-old hell raiser looking frail but still clearly up to something.

Whether the results will be the follow up to Black Rain is another question, of course. Released in 2007, it's currently the most recent album from the Prince of Darkness. Amazingly, it remains his most successful record in terms of opening week sales, too, shifting 152,000 copies in the first seven days, which in the era of hard drives clogged with Limewire-sourced illegal downloads is saying something.

Review: Melodica maestro Augustus Pablo released a number of influential albums during a golden period in the 1970s, though little quite as ground-breaking and far-sighted as 1976's "King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown". Mixed by King Tubby, it was one of the first great dub albums and is still one of the finest examples of the stripped-back, rhythm-heavy style around. If you don't already own a copy, we'd heartily recommend picking up this reissue. Musically, the tracks sound as warm, weighty and spacious as ever - all heavy Robbie Shakespear/Family Man Barrett bass, idiosyncratic drumming and killer melodica/Clavinet/organ action from Pablo - while the screen-printed artwork is a delight.

Review: When it comes to jackin' Chicago style acid house revivalism, few can hold a candle to Paranoid London. As this long-awaited second album proves, the duo is the undisputed masters of sweaty, TB-303 driven jack-tracks and - as recent single "(Vi-Vi) Vicious Games" and LP opener "Starting Fights" prove - classic-sounding vocal cuts that recall the glory years of Fingers, Inc in the mid-to-late 1980s. Interestingly, "PL" boasts far more collaborations than we've seen from Paranoid London before, including a string of ragged club cuts blessed with evocative spoken word vocals, a thrusting acid throb-job with lead vocals by Simon Topping and a suitably twisted, machine-driven hook up with Arthur Baker and Alan Vega (the raw and weighty "Angel Of Hell").

Review: The Houston Talent Expo '82 is one of those curious releases that has come out of a very special moment in time. Moreover, it's a one-off, a exception that came to be out of chance. The group was an extended collection of African-American in the Houston area throughout the 1980s, and this was their only release as a unit. "Let's Get High" sets the scene in perfect fashion, a funky, slow-motion groove with enough soul to kill the devil himself, but there's even gear for the diggers and samplers to salivate over. The absurdly good "Chocolate Coated People" drops a wonky, gritty slice of percussion over drugged-out melodies and a sea of funkiness. This is a truly special piece of music - don't miss it.

Review: Back in 1995, Lee "Scratch" Perry swung by Mad Professor's Ariwa Sounds studio in South East London to add his vocals to a fresh batch of raw, sub-heavy jungle riddims by Dougie Digital and Juggler. The results were released, alongside a quartet of more traditional dub versions built by Mad Professor using the same vocals, on an album called "Super Ape Inna Jungle". As this reissue proves, it was a potent set. Mad Professor's dubs are of course as weighty, echo-laden and inspired as ever, but it's the quality of the crunchy, razor-sharp jungle cuts that most impresses. These may not be considered jungle classics, but in our eyes, they should be considered as such.

Review: Funk. Soul. Psychedelic. And good old rough and ready rock 'n' roll. There are plenty of ways to interpret and categorise Jeannie Piersol's music. None come close to hitting the nail on the head of this enigma: a woman shrouded in the thick haze of weed smoke and LSD vapour. A key artist in the 1960s San Francisco counterculture, very little is known about her, but she rose to prominence with Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, and Big Brother, before exiting via the backdoor as the hippy dream died at the heel of conservatives and capitalists. The Nest brings together all Piersol's 1968 singles for the Chess label, alongside bits by Yellow Brick Road and Hair, studio outtakes, demos, and live recordings from some of her legendary shows of the time. Complete with 16-page booklet and 7,500 word essay by Grammy-nominated producer Alec Palao, this is more time capsule than album really.

It showcases a significant portion of the material that would later appear on their iconic album The Dark Side of the Moon, released a year later and still all these decades the high water mark for certain prog fans. The concert is a superb glimpse into the band's evolving sound, with intense, atmospheric performances and raw energy all present and correct as they work through classics like 'Money', with its snaking bassline, and 'US & Them', in their early versions. A historical snapshot of one of rock's most influential bands in their prime.

Review: Pink Floyd's filmed performance in the haunting ruins of Pompeii has always been one of the band's most enigmatic moments, and this newly reworked version reveals an even deeper level of intimacy and chaos. The remastering by Steven Wilson accentuates the tonal complexity, particularly in 'Echoes,' where each reverberation and shift in atmosphere feels more present. The raw, untamed energy of 'Careful With That Axe, Eugene' and the hypnotic pulse of 'A Saucerful of Secrets' add a depth to the band's evolving sound. There's a startling sense of discovery in these tracksiboth in the unedited 'A Saucerful of Secrets' and the alternate take of 'Careful With That Axe, Eugene.' Pink Floyd's creative tension and experimental spirit pulse through these recordings, making the listening experience feel like an invitation to witness them at their most initmate and unguarded.

Review: Steven Wilson, Richard Barbieri and Gavin Harrison are better known as the hugely influential and ever innovative British rock outfit Porcupine Tree. Wilson formed the band as an outlet for his experimental side outside the work he did with his other band N-Man, who had a more synth pop styled sound. Porcupine Tree evolved into a live act and expanded their sound to go from psychedelic rock and ambient soundscapes to experimental pop and then a big, powerful metal sound. All of those different niches came together on their later records making the band real cult favourites.

Opener 'Sign of the Times' brims with urgency and sets the tone for a set that spans funk-heavy anthems like 'House Quake' to intimate ballads like 'Slow Love'. Each track is brought to life with boundless energy, providing fans with a candid first hand glimpse into Prince's live mastery.

Review: No-one could accuse the London-based duo Public Service Broadcasting of lacking ambition-after the runaway success of their debut 'Inform - Educate - Entertain', this second album, whilst still utilising their trademark mixture of archive audio recordings, krautrock and post-rock. focuses conceptually on the '60s space race, and summons up a suitably widescreen and emotionally resonant backdrop for these stirring tales of voyages into the unknown. Both playful and respectful, it's a heartfelt record whose experimental elan matches the ground-breaking nature and sense of wonder of the subject matter, with these soundscapes and grooves sounding forceful and engaging even whilst they're figuratively staring at the stars.

Review: Mr Bongo reissues a classic record here from an iconic musical maverick. From her roots in India, to becoming a world famous artist with a celebrated career in music and acting, Asha Puthli forged a career path through '60s psych, free jazz, pop, rock, disco, and more. Her 1976 album The Devil Is Loose is maybe the most well known record, featuring the classic 'Space Talk' which was championed by many DJs, most famously the late David Mancuso at The Loft, in addition to being sampled The Notorious B.I.G., P Diddy and The Pharcyde. In later years, Puhtli went on to collaborate with the likes of Bill Laswell, DJ Spooky and Talvin Singh.

Review: ***B-STOCK:Creasing on corners of outer sleeve, product unopened & in excellent condition***

Twenty years ago it sounded like an oddly poignant evocation of pre-millennial tension. Two decades later it stands as an eerily prescient glimpe into the technological alienation and dislocation of of a new era. Yet more importantly, OK Computer is no more or less than a sparkling, dramatic and moving collection of songs that haven't lost any of their impact in the interim. The sound of a band stubbornly refusing to follow up the stadium-strafing stylings of its predecessor The Bends - and instead bursting headlong into experimentation and wild creativity -is portrayed in still more vivid colours by the alarmingly strong collection of out-takes and B-sides collected herein, Yet there's no getting away from the chill and spark that marked out OK Computer from everything surrounding it in the post-Britpop malaise, and continues to do so in the pre-Brexit counterpart.

Review: Houdou Nisbi is a top draw, cult classic record from Ziad Rahbani that now gets a deserving reissue on Wewantsounds. It was recorded in around 1984-85 and originally came out on the sought-after Lebanese label Relax-in in 1991, and only on CD and tape. Now it lands on vinyl for the first time and still sounds as good in the way it fuses Arabic sounds with jazz, boogie, funk and even hints of Brazil. Original groove fans heralded this as one of the best of its kind and this newly remastered version, which has been curated by Lebanese DJ, radio host and compiler Ernesto Chahoud, certainly backs that up.

American great Redman is about as decorated as hip-hop wordsmiths come and that legacy was assured almost from the moment he sealed his debut album, Whut? Thee Album in September 1992. It mixes up East Coast, hardcore and psychedelic rap styles with production taken care of by Pete Rock, Parrish Smith and Erick sermon. Now considered a classic and one of Redman's best albums, it features plenty of humorous lyrics and funky production with booming drums undermining each of the cuts. Vocally, Reedman does it all from lover to fighter and back again. It all makes for a party record with a difference.

Review: Horizon finds Matt Gold and Will Miller - respectively the guitarist behind Midnight Choir and the trumpeter/producer steering Resavoir - merging their shared love for Brazilian classics and Chicago's collaborative spirit into something slow-burning and broad-eyed. Orbiting nylon-string guitars and gradated with reeds, horns, strings and synths, 'Canopy' opens with bright chords and unfurls into shuffling groove and soprano sax; 'Diversey Beach', meanwhile, written during a whiteout, pairs NYC songwriter Mei Semones with a string section heard to drift like tidewater. Additions from Macie Stewart, Eddie Burns, Carter Lang and more hear the album bob through chamber jazz and dreamy orchestro-pop.

Structures From Silence
Review: It's hard to believe that Steve Roach's landmark space ambient exploration is now four decades young. Emphasis on the young, considering we're getting new releases through that sound pretty similar. No disrespect to those that do - the point is Structures From Silence was so massively ahead of its time it still feels like the rest of us are catching up. Floating on a dust ring somewhere close to Saturn, maybe, this is lush, dreamy, cosmic synth stuff to lose yourself in. Just be sure there's a yurt close by, because this one's all about lying down and staring into your own thoughts. An exercise in escapism, without needing to move a muscle. In 2025, there's plenty of off-world talk as Earth buckles under the weight of capitalism. Little do they know some of us left that place behind decades ago.

Review: It's been several months since we first stocked the CD release of Porter Robinson's sweet sophomore album 'Nurture'. Now you can get your mitts on an rare clear vinyl version (contrast to the matte white edition that came out in April). With the album coming about "during a period of intense creative and emotional struggle", this project feels like a triumphant response to nihilism in electronic music form. Bright, major key vocal synthesis and glitch is the name of its game ('Look At The Sky', 'Dullscythe'), cementing the feeling of prevailing through stacked odds.

The result is a seven-tracker of gracefully cosmic proportions, incorporating drunken piano house and a percussively soft excitability, not to mention a remix each of the very track that sparked the entire duo project, 'Samba De Flora'.

First tizzwozzing dancefloors in 1992 with the hardcore classic 'Darkrider', Rufige Kru delivered pivotal tracks like 'Ghosts of My Life' and 'Terminator'. Now, for the first time since 2009, Rufige Kru returns with new LP Alpha Omega, featuring longtime collaborator and krumate Submotive. Leading the charge is 'Still The Same', a heavyweight single featuring CASISDEAD, fresh off his BRIT Award win, interceded by 'Goldikus' with Cleveland Watkiss, a chance early jazzstep pioneer from the far-flung realm of piano jazz and soul.

Review: Ryo Fukui, one of Japan's most revered jazz pianists, takes centre stage in this re-pressed live performance, capturing the height of his artistic maturation at the 9th anniversary bash of Slowboat, the jazz live house he founded. At 56 years old, Fukui's playing is a stunning blend of power and delicacy, showcasing a balance of energy, technique, and depth that defined his later years. Accompanied by Kosuke Sakai on bass and Yoshito Eto on drums, the trio delivers electrifying renditions of pieces by Phineas Newborn Jr., Tommy Flanagan, and Wayne Shorter, all of whom had a significant influence on Fukui's style. The performance, now recaptured on its own 30th anniversary, not only reflects Fukui's fascination with greats, but captures his own distinct voice and voicings.

Reissued by Demon over a decade ago on CD, a vinyl repress is long since overdue and now the beautiful people over at Music On Vinyl have opted to re-distribute the underrated seasoned gem on translucent blue vinyl with the 180 gram numbered audiophile treatment. Reliably mammoth riffs and soaring hooks abound, though the project is most noted for featuring an eclectic reimagining of Willie Dixon's blues classic 'Just Wanna Make Love to You', popularised by the incomparable Muddy Waters.

Now reissued on double vinyl via Def Jam, it features a blend of gritty storytelling, introspective lyrics and powerful production on tracks like 'On My Block' and 'Guess Who's Back' which showcase Scarface's raw authenticity and ability to convey deep emotions. The collaborations with artists such as Jay-Z and Nas enhance the album's depth and appeal and he'd make this an enduring favourite.

The American gothic rock and post-punk band She Wants Revenge - formed by founding members Adam Bravin and Justin Warfield in 2004 - hears a reissue of their second album 'This Is Forever' from 2007. A fascinating continuation of the gothic post-punk sound in an era in which it wasn't exactly fashionable, Bravin and Warfield present a brilliant mashup of eerie, gamey electronica and eye-popping, authentic punk here. The record opens with the looming piano castellations of 'First, Love' - a boom-boom-pow instrumental intro that suggests every grim, bloodthirsty motif you need to know, without saying a word - then the real carnage ensues with the likes of 'Written In Blood', 'True Romance', 'She Will Always Be A Broken Girl' and 'Rachel', all of which together tell a fierce tale of high-stakes heartbreak and redded redress; electrified punk, fallen women.

Review: Nina Simone has rather been written out of popular music history because of quite how confrontational and proudly Black she was. She was just as far ahead of her times musically too and this legendary album Baltimore shows why. It arrived with no promotion and no lead singles and so it was an utter commercial failure, but the sleuths of the internet have rediscovered it over the 45 years since its release and helped to make it a cult favourite now regarded as one of the best in her oeuvre. It has distinctive reggae production and of course plenty of beautiful vocals from Simone as she tackles songs written by Judy Collins, Hall & Oates, and Randy Newman.

It harks back to jazz giants Blue Note in both the title and the sounds on offer, with Domenico Errico and Skyler Taylor taking care of the executive production, and Benjamin Ventura, Jesse Germano and Skyzoo on the arrangement and production. It's filled with plenty of sweet moments, from the expressive sax of "The Caveat" to the busy drums and jazz-funk keys of "There It Goes". The Roy Ayres refereeing "We (Used To) Live In Brooklyn, Baby" is a real highlight.

Review: Sleepdial's debut for West Mineral is a mesmerising dive into ambient dub that blurs the lines between vaporous texture and low-end weight. Across nine tracks, the producer crafts smudged soundscapes rich with submerged rhythms and fractal echoes while evoking the spirit of early Pole or Vladislav Delay. Tracks like 'Icarus Rising' and 'Blue August' balance sensual warmth with dubwise grit and maintain a steady pulse through dreamy abstraction. This vinyl-first release feels both aquatic and etheric, with dub used as a method of spatial exploration. It is seriously hypnotic and emotionally nuanced, so is a strong statement from a promising new voice in ambient electronics.

Grunge was already dominating the world by July 1993, when Chicago's Smashing Pumpkins released their second album, but Siamese Dream would point the way forward for the sound, and, racking up six million sales, it would also prove to be one of its most successful landmarks after Nirvana's Nevermind. It was that album's producer - Butch Vig - who took the helm on this album, and his trademark crunchy and compressed take on the loud/quiet light and shade of 'Today' and the gloriously sludgy 'Mayonnaise' had a lot to do with its success. That and, of course, Bill Corgan's distinctive and vulnerable vocal performances, which make this the missing evolutionary step between the Pixies and the next generation of emo kings like My Chemical Romance.

Review: The Smiths captured close to the end of their career by the BBC at the National Ballroom in Kilburn, West London. Promoting The Queen Is Dead and the rich rush of different non-album singles that fell between it and final LP Strangeways here We Come, this broadcast recording - which was also used for the live album Rank - features the re-slimmed down classic four-strong Smiths line up, leaner and meaner than the five piece with additional guitarist Craig Cannon that had toured previous album Meat Is Murder. A string of great singles - 'Ask', 'Bigmouth Strikes Again' and 'Panic' among them - populate the tracklisting, as well a typically brutal execution of 'The Queen Is Dead' as their dramatic opener. It's hard to find a moment in their all too brief stint together when The Smiths are not on top form, but this truly is a peak of peaks.

Review: Helsinki-based sextet Soft Power return with their fourth release i a richly detailed and expansive jazz-rock record that confirms their standing as one of Finland's most original ensembles. Formed in 2015, the group continues to push forward with a sound rooted in Nordic jazz and progressive traditions, but always shaped by clarity, control and sharp melodic thinking. It's a new release that leans into modal harmony, rhythmic intricacy and instrumental colour, without ever tipping into excess. 'Zeppelin' unfurls with measured power, while the title track 'Space To Breathe' delivers a slow, immersive build full of harmonic subtlety and textural weight. Lush electric keys and layered horns give the record its warmth, while tight ensemble playing keeps the edges crisp. There's a sense of atmosphere here that's as important as any solo or theme i a carefully built tension between groove, abstraction and mood. Without falling into pastiche, the band channel the mysticism of 70s European fusion and reshape it for the present, offering a record that's cool, grounded and quietly complex. A standout addition to the Finnish jazz-rock catalogue and a clear sign that this group continues to grow with purpose.

A Song For Two Mothers (17:07)
Occam IX (19:06)
Review: Black Truffle proudly present A Song for Two Mothers/Occam IX, the debut solo release from Laetitia Sonami, a pioneer in electronic music and live performance innovation. Born in France in 1957, Sonami studied with Eliane Radigue before moving to California in 1978 to immerse herself in the experimental scene at Mills College. Best known for her invention, the Lady's Glove, a revolutionary interface that allowed her to manipulate sound, lights, and video, Sonami has now transitioned to a new instrumentithe Spring Spyre. The Spring Spyre, a unique contraption of springs and reverb tanks, captures the unpredictable nature of Sonami's real-time performances. In A Song for Two Mothers (2023), Sonami spins a web of intricate synthetic textures, where delicate yet chaotic sounds emerge from silence, gradually evolving into metallic percussive flurries and harmonic clouds. On the flip side, Occam IX is a profound collaboration with her former mentor, Eliane Radigue. This piece, rooted in deep sonic exploration, envelops listeners in slowly unfolding waves of synthetic tones, echoing Radigue's iconic longform works. Accompanied by insightful notes and striking imagery, this release is a vital tribute to Sonami's groundbreaking contributions to electronic music.

Following on from 1997's self-released demo album In The Skin, the band would sign to Roadrunner Records for their major label debut Bitterness The Star in 2002; a project frontman Brock Lindow continues to consider his personal favourite. Over two decades on from initial release, the beautiful people over at Music On Vinyl are offering a long awaited reissue of this seminal beast on a lush 180 gram audiophile translucent blue vinyl LP, with each copy individually numbered for that additional collector's high.

Review: New York City art-popper Nate Amos, of Water From Your Eyes fame, has been making music under his solo moniker This Is Lorelei for years, but this is the first time he set out to make a proper album. Amos opts to go for a smorgasbord of styles and excels in Americana songwriting; the opening track is quite trad with violin strings and an emotional duet set to a pared back rhythm section. Elsewhere, 'Perfect Hand' is anti-electronia - a really minimal 4/4 beat, with very little in the way of ornamentation and proves to be a stylish underpinning to the life-affirming lyrics: "I don't mind the present and I like the past/I think that the future's worth it." This minimal approach is in contrast to the chamber pop number 'Two Legs', which is where he opens his wings and let's in the different layers; he has a Sufjan Stephens-esque majesty here. Clearly Amos is operating at a really high level with as many talents as a Swiss army pocket knife.

Review: Thornato's Bennu album was first released in 2021 and proved a quick hit. Wonderwheel now reissues it on limited translucent blue vinyl which is as mesmerising as the fusion of global rhythms and electronic beats contained within. From the infectious opening and worldly grooves of 'Bennu' to the darker vocals and heavier drums of 'Rhinoceros', each track showcases Thornato's mastery of blending traditional instrumentation with modern production techniques. Standout cuts like 'Shu Swamp' seamlessly weave together influences from around the world with claps, xylophones, chanting vocals and shuffling rhythms that exude vibrant energy. A truly global blend of bass and beats this album will bring plenty of warmth into your life.

Review: Brownswood Recordings proudly present the first ever reissue of Toshio Matsuura's 2018 cult classic Loveplaydance, issued for the first time as a complete album on limited edition red and white double vinyl. The project focuses on covers, presenting classics & influential tracks in a contemporary context. For example, among the most immediately prominent is Toshio Matsuura Group's version of 'Black Gold Of The Sun' by Rotary Connection, though the new version lays down a patent Afro-Cuban tinge, enlisting the aid of singer Dayme Arocena and her prodigious Havana-based players. Such ingenious rerubs all came down to the bold movements of legendary DJ and producer Toshio Matsuura, whose selections and comings-together still cast a novel light on these early 90s jazz proceedings.

Originally released in 1999 and now reissued, Beaucoup Fish captures UK techno icons Underworld at their peak popularity. Karl Hyde, Rick Smith and Darren Emerson were just coming off their Trainspotting movie fame due to their legendary track 'Born Slippy'. Following Dubnobasswithmyheadman and Second Toughest in the Infants, this record feels heavier and more restless, mirroring their ambivalence toward their growing profile. Where their previous albums flowed like introspective night drives, Beaucoup Fish often barrels forward with full-throttle energy. Tracks like 'Push Upstairs' and 'Kittens' tear through at blistering tempos, merging techno heft with psychedelic texture. 'Shudder / King of Snake' is the album's pounding centerpiece, a kinetic beast built on a mutated 'I Feel Love' bassline and layers of frenetic percussion. Yet it's on 'Jumbo' and 'Cups' that Underworld tap into something deeper, more elegant and melancholic for solitary moments on packed dance floors. Hyde's cryptic, associative lyricism are half preacher, half poet that add a compelling edge throughout. His stream-of-consciousness delivery turning even the most muscular tracks are very introspective. Beaucoup Fish may reflect a band conflicted about their identity, but it's also Underworld at their most refined, striking a potent balance between euphoria and alienation, bombast and subtlety. It remains a hypnotic artifact of late-90s rave culture, vivid in both its unease and its ecstasy.

Review: Joey Valence & Brae's No Hands is a triumphant follow-up that cements the duo's place as masters of their distinctive, high-energy hip-hop style. Riding the wave of their viral success, they continue to deliver the brash, playful sound that made them stand out on Punk Tactics, but with a bit more polish and depth this time around. The album is full of lively tracks like 'Like A Punk' and 'The Baddest,' where Joey's squawking delivery and Brae's deeper tones create an irresistible dynamic. No Hands showcases their ability to blend humor with hard-hitting beats, while also experimenting with different sounds. Tracks like 'Bussit' and 'OK' hint at dance influences, while 'Where U From' and 'What U Need' bring in elements of early 2000s hip-hop. The Danny Brown feature on 'Packapunch' adds credibility, but Joey Valence & Brae prove they don't need big names to make an impactithey're doing just fine on their own. This album is a wild ride that stays true to the duo's roots while pushing their sound forward. With No Hands, Joey Valence & Brae continue to dominate their niche, delivering another round of unabashed, infectious fun.
