Review: The ever-charitable Needs project continues apace with another stunning cast of characters offering up their dancefloor creations to help a good cause - the environmentally-focused Cool Earth NGO. On this 12", Eris Drew delivers the uplifting breakbeat celebration of "See You In Snow", while Edward takes things deeper with the tripped out minimal house groove of "Mind Loop". D. Tiffany brings a particularly crafty approach to her own drum funk science on "Sun Trip" and Henry Hyde cools things down with the mellow, new age 2 step stylings of "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim."

Review: Satoshi Tomiie, a legendary figure in house music, returns with 12B Dub Part 2 on Phonogramme Records, showcasing his signature impeccable production across four dubby deep house tracks. With a masterful touch, Satoshi knows how to build and develop grooves that captivate. Side-1 opens with 'Lately Dub', a spacey, melodic, and addictive track with a deep groove that's both dubby and inviting. Next, 'Flying Toasters' brings a deeper, atmospheric sound perfect for early morning sets, drenched in a rich dub house vibe. On Side-2, 'BKLN' provides a minimal, slow-building groove that gradually pulls the listener into its hypnotic depths. Finally, 'Process' might just be the standout track, airy and heady with its hypnotic quality, yet all four cuts shine with their smooth, deep production. 12B Dub Part 2 shows why Satoshi Tomie's , enduring talents are always trusted. This collection of finely-tuned tracks will resonate with any music fans who like their house music deep.

Inoffensive Dance
Review: 'Solitude' is a perfectly apt title for anything Sistrum label head Patrice Scott does. The US deep house master makes such introverted and introspective sounds that they have you utterly transfixed in the moment, locked into thought and gazing on at his gorgeous synth designs which are cosmic, meaningful and jazzy. The title track here does all that and more with some deft vocals laced in and gentle tambourine sounds. 'Inoffensive Dance' is another meditation of deepness with loose drums and lovely melodies all soothing mind, body and soul.

Inland Knights - "Do It Again"
Review: Drop Music marks a marvellous quarter of a century of releases with this new slab of vinyl featuring some gems from disco funksters Crazy P and the house mainstays Inland Knights. Crazy P go first with 'Disc Odyssey' which is perfectly indicative of their much beloved sound with its low slung kicks and funky bassline. Inland Knights then offer a trio of in demand & unreleased tracks. 'Overnight' is a bumming deep house joint, 'Walk On' has an icy late night vibe and balmy pads and 'Do It Again is a more playful closer, with some killer b-line action. All four, needless to say, are timeless gems, and the fact the last two are appearing on vinyl first the first time makes it an even more desirable cop.

Heike (Mood mix)
Review: Ricardo Villalobos wasn't always the cult figure he is today. At the start of his career he was an underground producer still finding his feet and fomenting his own sound. It was in the first decade of his career that he cooked up this tune and had what is about as close as he will ever get to a techno anthem. 'Heike' rides on big drums with detuned synth lines layered up next to female vocal coos, pixelated synth modulations and prying bass. Its a mental workout as much as a physical one and still bags today, which his why it gets this reissue on Rawax alongside the Mood Mix on the flip which is more dubby and dialled back into to deeper beats.

Review: Endell Street returns with a strictly limited 10" that features some rare gems that were originally produced back in the early naughties by Timmy S. Plenty of heads will know these have been expensive to cop on the second-hand market but now they have been restored and remastered by Yossi Amoyal in collaboration with Eukahouse's Nils Hess. Deep tech house doesn't get more authentic than this with the slick, driving drums and nocturnal pads of 'Wake Up' and the more percussive darkness of 'A Trip To London' both sounding superb.

Deep Incantations Trilogy Vol 1

Ooo Ahh
Review: Born less than an hour from Chicago but now based in Detroit, Rick Wade cut his DJ teeth in Michigan's Nectarine Ballroom in the 80s and early 90s, at the same time as a certain Jeff Mills was also making giant strides at the venue. Wade's sound is more rooted in deep house but, as this four tracker demonstrates, there's a cosmic spirituality and otherworldliness to his music that it shares with the best of UR and other notable Detroit greats. We kick off with 'Groove Tool', powered by a beautifully pliable, funky bassline and embellished with floating chords and subtle bell sounds way up in the high frequency range. 'Pimp Prophecy' boasts a little more disco swagger, with its niggling guitar riff and some excellent bongo bashing. 'Jazzy Tears' revolves around a sturdy kick and a processed, timestretched vocal refrain, played off against jazzy guitar chords and strings ascending to the heavens. 'Ooo Ahh' is probably the catchiest of the lot, with a shuffling beat undercarriage and an infectious hook, all wrapped up - as all four tracks are - in some understated but still lush musicality. 'Deep Incantations' indeed.

Review: Sushitech never serves up anything less than high-class tech, house and dub and that is once more the case with the latest reissue project. This one turns its attention to a 1999 gem by Land-based Get Fucked. Originally dropped on the Eukahouse label and soon beaching a cult classic of the new millennium, it now arrives on a fresh 10" in two different forms. What Is House Muzik (Jazzuelle Deeper Acid mix)
Review: Way back in 1994, while he was riding high with the stomping, raw and druggy Wild Pitch sound, DJ Pierre released 'What is House Muzik?' as Phuture Scope. This clear vinyl reissue from Get Physical celebrates the track's 30th birthday, accompanying the acid house pioneer's original Wild Pitch mix - a typically stretched-out, Sound Factory-ready concoction with raw loops, weighty beats and bass and fizzing synth stabs - with the original spoken word acapella and two later reworks. The most notable of these is Emmanuele Satie's on-point edit of Ricardo Villalobos's epic 2015 dub, which cuts it down to playable length while retaining the Chilean's wonky and out-there mix of barely audible orchestral samples, crunchy beats, weird noises and spoken word snippets. Throw in Jazzuelle's tidy 'deeper acid' mix and you have an essential reissue.

Review: Ron & Roland was a mid-90s collaboration between Matt Hodgson (7th Voyage) and Laurant Webb (Housey Doingz) and at their peak they made some untouchable records that perfectly straddled the house and techno divide. This new reissue on Pariter is one of them and it features a trio of cuts laced with visceral acid energy. 'Nassaur Bassed Party' kicks off with crispy drums and snares that cut through the rich bass. 'Acidless Party' gets wilder with extra 303 energy and 'Track Ball Treck' balances dynamic drive with sonic detail for a dubby, elastic groove that was initially recorded at Swag Studios Croydon in 1996 and, with these other cuts, was initially released on Surreal. It's been a cult favourite ever since and still sounds magnificent.

This release brings out three hidden gems from his archives that capture the depth of his skill in minimal and tech house production. Review: Burnski's superb Pilot label is back with more club-ready gold and this one is from Hatori Hanso. He opens up by covering the gorgeously deep and soul enriching sounds of a Pepe Bradock classic but reworks the pads into a more thumping breakbeat rhythm. 'My Chorus' is a soft acid delight with surging breaks heading off into the cosmos and 'I'm A Taker' then has a squelchy bassline to die for that dances about between snappy snares and lively kick drums. 'Kraulen' shuts down with some boogie energy, radiant chords and more crispy drum patterns for good time fun.

Review: Besides recent, inter-stylistic releases from Jurango, Azu Tiwaline and DJ Polo, Peverelist's Livity Sound imprint has also lately served as an outlet for the Bristol label head's own Pulse series, in which the artist discharges his pulsive drives in techno (and more) form. First kicking off in 2023, the series has thus far delivered the 'Pulse', 'Pulse Modulation' and 'Pulse Phase' EPs, and now follows on with the staunch quarter-milestone, 'Pulse Echo'. Another sense-knocking slurry of modular-fed experiments primed for the intellectual dancefloor, our favourite vibe-moments on this new selection have to be the gamespace jungle of 'Pulse XIV' and the lasery FM bass fuclra of 'Pulse XVI'.

Review: RQZ's Twilight Zone EP on Purple Print offers three tracks that dive deep into the spacey, hypnotic side of progressive house, perfect for those who enjoy minimal and tech house vibes. Side-1 starts with '11 To Twilight,' a track that takes listeners on a journey through celestial soundscapes. Its light and airy melody, combined with sci-fi elements, creates the sensation of being shot through a space portal, making it an ideal choice for those early morning hours when the night feels otherworldly. On Side-2, 'Barbara Jean' brings a more techy vibe with a bouncy bassline and a solid drum pattern, keeping the energy grounded while still feeling expansive. Review: DJ 1985's We Trippin' on Emotional Especial Records offers a unique blend of styles across four tracks, each showcasing an original sound palette hitting many subgenres under the electronic music umbrella. Possibly helping invent a few too. Side-1 opens with 'We Trippin',' evoking early AFX with its analog beats and whimsical, melancholic melodies. The track's modular bassline and subtle acid elements create a rich, nostalgic atmosphere. Following this is 'Dolphins & Sirens,' which blends Balearic influences into a smooth, laid-back groove that feels effortlessly cool. Is Balearic electro a style yet? On Side-2, 'Catland' presents a cinematic, acid wave-inspired experience. Its spatial effects, echoing sounds, and beachy undertones make it feel like a trip through a surreal movie soundtrack. Is Acid Wave a genre yet? The final track, 'The Last One,' features smooth synth washes and a futuristic, melodic vibe paired with an urban beat, rounding out the EP with a forward-thinking, sophisticated touch. We Trippin' is a standout release for those who appreciate a diverse, genre-blending approach to electronic music, offering a journey through various sonic landscapes.

Review: The second volume of Roundabout Sounds' 'All Hands' is another brilliant house collection. Arguably one of the Peckham's best known is Wbeeza, who kicks off with the grading mechanical house of 'FLIP SHxT' which brings to mind the best of Omar S. Demetrio Giannice keeps it deep and swaggering with his stripped back but enticing 'Talk', while Joe Babylon layers up lovely synth chords and organic beats on 'Adepsis'. The ultra mysterious Unknown Deetroit shuts down with 'It's Never Over' which is some playful loopy fun.

Review: This compilation is a sonic tapestry woven from the threads of diverse electronic soundscapes, each track carefully crafted to evoke the liminal space between dreams and reality. It's an invitation to immerse oneself in a world of intricate textures, hypnotic rhythms, and evocative melodies, where the boundaries between genres blur and the music takes on a life of its own. Jonny Rock's 'Legenda' sets the tone with its purposeful groove, its driving energy balanced by a sense of introspective depth. Thanksmate's 'Take A Chance' adds a meditative touch, its gentle melodies and atmospheric textures inviting contemplation and reflection. Dobao's 'Oceano' plunges into a deep, liquid dimension, its swirling synths and hypnotic rhythms creating a sense of weightless immersion. Giammarco Orsini's 'Whirlwind' picks up the pace, its pulsating energy and infectious groove propelling the listener forward. Hiver's 'The Frontier' explores the tension and release of electronic landscapes, its dynamic shifts and evolving textures keeping the listener on the edge of their seat. Sam Goku's 'Lucid Oscillation' closes the compilation with a sense of ethereal beauty, its airy melodies and floating notes leaving a lingering sense of wonder.

Review: The ninth addition to Mineral Cuts' two-sider 12"s series comes courtesy of producers Cle Acklin, Sharam Jey and Stressman, offering a tritonic trance tranche of geologic audio wonders. Jey's 'House To The Party' moves glassy and vocal, its central vocal sample resounding again and again to the point of semantic satiation, as refractively syncopated synth sevenths burst atop the mix. The crystalline moods continue, with FX resembling dial-up tones trilling away on Acklin's 'No Need To See'. Both tracks proffer a polished torso-tucking sound, perfect for the lightfooted dancefloor.

Review: This new various artists EP via Berlin label Rockets Audio is a bright collection of belligerent, boxout beats, filed under the tag "fight music": a genre name which, by our account, very few other records share in. Though not particularly any more jingoistic in sound than the average knockout minimal breaks record, this one is still a multi-ringed set of winded body shots, and an all-round demo of Rockets' rope-a-dope roster, each of said artists punching well outside their weight classes. All remixing Sepp's titular 'Fighta' - itself a fortified set of padded facial armaments encasing a softer, funkier core of pads and vocal pump-ups - the one-punch KO this round, however, has to be Cesaire & Disorder's remix, which splits open the cheek protectors with extra dynamic, agile breaks design.

Side-1 opens with He Did's 'Mientras Tanto', a fun and infectious groove. The track's deep, rolling bassline and lively percussion make it an instant mood-setter. Side-2 moves further into introspective territory with Raz's 'Rora', a smooth and melodic track that drifts along effortlessly, blending subtle harmony with a deeper bassline. Yama Music's 'In My Space' rounds out the collection with a broken beat approach, delivering techy, spacious vibes that add depth and variety to the mix. On the second side, Exodus takes a more melodic turn, layering emotive synths over a deep techno foundation, creating a track that feels both expansive and introspective. Closing the release is Resolve, a more reserved offering, moody and subtle in its approach. Four disinhibitors - we mean it, as these tracks are incredibly loose in feel - 'Track 1' and 'Track 2' pump and sway through unholy garage house swings and vintage hauled, shoop-a-doop sample oddities; it's only at the point of the B-side when we reach a whistling version of Ciara's '1, 2 Step' set to clinching electro, and 'Track 4' befuddles further with tense, materially informed exercise in soulful bruk. A real eclectic release from an even kookier label, well worth the spin.

Mark Knight & James Hurr - "You Take Me Higher"
Friend Within - "Chain"
Martin Ikin & Winnie Ama - "Control It"
Flashmob & Raumakustik - "Club Talk"
Review: Toolroom's 'sampler' series, which rounds up previously digital-only releases and sticks them out on action-packed 12" EPs, reaches its sixteenth instalment. Given the format, you'll be unsurprised to discover that there's plenty of bona-fide peak-time heat on show, starting with Mark Knight and James Hurr's excitable, filter-heavy, string-laden disco-house bomb 'You Take Me Higher'. Friend Within offers a scintillating blend of heavy acid bass, glassy-eyed female vocal samples, weighty beats and subtle disco samples on the superb 'Chain', while Martin Ikin and Winnie Ama opt for even heavier drums, warped bass, creepy electronics and dead-eyed spoken word vocals on the sweat-soaked 'Control It'. To round things off, we're treated to the tech-tinged funky house bounce of Flashmob and Raumakustik's percussion -rich 'Club Talk'.

Tensione
Review: Acid Pauli and Nico Stojan, the masterminds behind the Ouie label, reunite for another collaborative effort, this time delivering a two-track EP that embodies their signature sound. 'Vola' is a hypnotic and psychedelic journey, its spongy rhythm and eclectic samples creating a lush and meditative atmosphere. The track's intricate textures and subtle melodies invite the listener to get lost in its depths, a perfect example of the duo's ability to craft intimate and evocative electronic music. 'Tensione', the B-side, builds upon this foundation, incorporating modular arpeggios and tasteful pads to create a more dynamic and expansive soundscape. Hypnotic rhythms, intricate textures, and psychedelic flourishes - job done.

Mizz Hunni (dub)
Review: The Vessel Recordings Group label is headed up by Ira James who has shown he has great taste when it comes to tapping into global house sounds. This new EP is another standout with Toronto talent Demuir behind the beats. He brings his signature mix of influxes to this one starting with 'Conversing With Angels' which has disco-tinged loops and soulful, feel-good vibes that liven up any party. 'Everynight' has a deep cut and funky groove that is made all the more arresting and emotive with the vocals and smart synth filters, while 'Mizz Hunni' comes as a hefty tech stomper and also as a dub.

Clubber's Exit
Review: Since 2019, Taylor Freels - best known for his work as Urulu - has used to Liquid Earth alias to explore the more psychedelic side of his dancefloor influences, frequently doffing a cap to 1990s acid, breaks and progressive house. This time round, you'll hear some of those inspirations, but also nods to the early days of UK garage. For proof, check 'Handy Boy (Casa de Mama Remix)', where cut-up r&b vocal snippets and mind-mangling electronics ride am Armand Van Helden style 'dark garage' groove, and the psychedelic acid-goes-4/4 UKG madness of 'Big Nik's Speed Garage'. They heady and intoxicating hybrid flavours continue on 'Lick of Life (Just A Little Mix)' - all weird noises, odd samples, acid lines and speed garage drums - while 'Clubber's Exit' sits somewhere between weighty Detroit electro and nu-skool breaks.
