2 Pac - "Keep Ya Head Up" (4:28)
King Tee - "Played Like A Piano" (4:21)
Review: West Coast Classics brings the heat on this latest super 7" with one fo the biggest name sin the game taking care of the a-side. 2 Pac's 1993 gem 'Keep Ya Head Up' features R&B singer Dave Hollister. The tune was dedicated to his godson Elijah and Latasha Harlins and also points out the abuse black women face in society. It's a cut that brims with warmth and a beat sampled from Zapp's 'Be Alright.' Flip it over for King Tee's slow motion, deep cut funk jewel 'Played Like A Piano' which is another vital tune.

Review: Muddy, dreamy and dubby new dance cuts from THREADS, who invite four of their mainstays to the fore with a dry and entraining take on trance. Kebab Traume (in English, 'Kebab Dream') wafts a mouth-watery cylinder of sonic meat under our noses with 'Nova Trance', which melds stabs, basses and kicks with all the certainty of a honey badger. Meanwhile, Mario Liberti's 'Treat Me Good' urges us to do just that via the mode sultry sampled vocals and funk bass whirls.

A1 People - "Do It" (Metamatics remix)

Silicon Scally - "Relay"
Matt Chester - "November Pathways"
CiM - "Recursive"
Review: Since Zip and Villalobos made it one of their coveted deep digs to be heard pealing out of a thousand after hours sessions, the Metamatics remix of A1 People has been a teasingly out of reach dream grab for many a minimal electro head. Now Yossi Amoyal has done the good deed of getting the track remastered and repressed as part of his Fluere series toasting 15 years of Sushitech. As well as that masterclass of elegant machine funk, there's also Kosmogonik's mind-bendingly brilliant 'Circuitry', Silicon Scally's body-popping electro-noir 'Relay' and Matt Chester's melancholic 'November Pathways' to keep your up-all-night marathon sets peppered with spangled surprises.

Call From The Tower (3:19)

Tempest Of Joy (5:19)
Legs Of The Fly (6:23)
Tarmar (7:21)
Review: Sometime Northern Electronics contributor Acronym made his first outing on Stockholm stable Stilla Ton back in June 2018, in the process serving up a trio of trance-inducing techno tracks. Here he returns to the imprint with an EP produced in collaboration with fast-rising female and occasional studio buddy Kali Malone. What's on offer is an intriguing blend of soundscapes and club cuts, with off-kilter ambient cuts such as "Call From The Tower" and closer "Tarmar" coming accompanied by poignant, sunrise-ready modular techno cuts such as the dancefloor-ready "A Sunspot". There are dark, trippy cuts, too (see the throbbing "Tempest Of Joy" and the buzzing thrust of "Legs Of The Fly"), resulting in a versatile and well-judged collection of cuts.

Review: Exit Planet Earth continues its exploration of the world of electro universe with an expansive, extended six track EP, featuring The Advent x Zein Ferreira, DeFeKT, London Modular Alliance, Konertymi and Zobol. The Advent, whose weekly Gardening Club residency in the mid-90s helped to drag electro out of the realms of the retro and back into the future, team up with Zein Ferreira for a Kraftwerk-on-speed extended mix of 'CarpeDiem', before London Modular Alliance's more moderately paced but still squiggle and bleep laced 'Lump of Coal' plus a 'beats' breakdown for the DJs. The B-side brings us the acid-powered 'Pulssi' by Konerytmi, the bouncy, breakdance-friendly 'Radar' by DeFeKT, and the relatively pure, optimistic sonics of Zobol's 'Data Wars'. Thumbs up all round.

Trouble In My Way (Afshin & Kiss My Black Jazz edit) (7:42)
The Riot (Afshin & Kiss My Black Jazz edit) (6:00)
Review: Something a little different from G.A.M.M here, as Parisian DJ Afshin joins forces with the mysterious Kiss My Black Jazz to offer up two incendiary edits. The real surprise killer is A-side "Trouble In My Way", which subtly turns a blues-era recording of a traditional slave sing-along into a handclap-heavy chunk of infectious gospel-house brilliance. It takes a little time to build up, but when the heavier beats drop midway through you'll have dancers eating out of the palm of your hand. Flipside "The Riot" sees them make merry with a Hammond-heavy chunk of 1960s jazz-funk, extending and reworking the cut to make it suitably sweaty, heavy and life affirming.

Make It Reggae (Afshin & Black Jazz edit)
Review: Earlier in the month, Parisian producer Afshin joined forces with Kiss My Black Jazz and served up a brilliant, two-track missive of jazz-funk and blues-house reworks on G.A.M.M. Here they reunite for round two. This time round, they begin by reworking a shuffling, chant-along Afro-Brazilian gem of unknown origin, extending the carnival-ready percussive intro before unleashing the shuffling, sun-kissed samba rhythm and some of the sweetest vocals this side of a sing-along in a chocolate factory. Over on side B they give a similar tune to a killer chunk of reggae-funk fusion rich in warm dub bass, bongo-laden beats, bluesy guitar solos, fuzzy horns and James Brown style guttural vocals.

Review: The West Country hook-up between Appleblim and Komon has been drawing heat since last year when the pair jumped on the Gas Jam / Silencio for the former's Apple Pips label. Since then they've been remixed by Prins Thomas and gravitated naturally towards Will Saul's Aus label. The turn of a New Year saw the pair enter Jupiter for Aus and now they are back on the label experiencing Motion Blur. Intriguingly the A Side features collaborations whilst the flip finds Appleblim and Komon dropping solo jams. The title track is a perfect slice of UK hybridism whilst seek out Appleblim's closing "Echo's Retreat" which descends into Bristol electro territory.

Review: Ralph Lawsons'20/20 Vision label has done a fine job of evolving and re-emerging after its 20th anniversary and is now serving up cutting edge sounds from fresh new artists once more. It has done plenty of good work in the world of electro recently but here it goes back to deep house from a fine rabble of artists. There is a slick bump n funk to the opener before warped cosmic tones and neon colours define the speedy deep techno of Harrison BDP's 'Dirty Mochyn.' On the flip are some more of those breezy Adam Pits beats and Keisuke's 'OK Taiko' then brings an early, percussive house vibe that takes us back to late 80s Chicago.

I Wanna Know (dub) (7:49)
Review: Those who've followed Alex Attias' career over the last two decades will tell you that he's always been capable of crafting the kind of jazzy, soulful, life-affirming fare more readily associated with UK broken beat producers. He's at it again on "I Wanna Know", a deliciously warm and sultry slab of dancefloor soul rich in samba-fired house beats, fluid piano lines (provided, we think, by Kid K), drowsy chords and a killer lead vocal from Georgia Anne Muldrow. Over on side B, Attias strips out most of Muldrow's vocal on a Dub Mix that rightly layers up the beats, emphasizes the track's jazzy horns and virtually bathes in the liquidity of its jazz-funk synths.

Review: Undersound Recordings hit release number 15 with a various artist EP that packs four vital techno punches. Audio Quest's "The Mental Screen" kicks off with some old school techno that recalls the sound of legendary Dutch label Djax-Up. It's filled with metallic snare sounds and deep space bleeps. Jared Wilson of course brings the acid that has defined his output for years, and Sohrab get busy with a kicking number and some busy melody patterns. KCLF closes out with twisted bass and shiny chords that look back to go forwards with "Reloaded 9615".

Owen Jay & Brian James - "Chordless" (5:25)
Review: Given the success of the first two installments of the Editions series, it's little surprise to see XDB put together a third volume for his Metrolux imprint. He's assembled another crack team of international contributors, too. Autre and Xinner join forces on opener "Nebula", a fine combination of low-slung techno drums, restless electronics and deep space sonics. Autre goes solo to deliver the fluttering, late night hypnotism of "Seiryu", before Kryptic Universe steals the show with "01309 Stairways", a superb chunk of rolling intelligent techno that features an extended ambient intro. Owen Jay and Brian James round things off with the distorted drum machine hits and woozy riffs of "Chordless" (which, to be fair, is an accurate title).

Miami's Avstin Frank gets all warm with dusty chords and brush drums on "Trasladar", Manchester's D.Kno sets off a cool breeze with the sweetly shuffled "24/7", Buenos Aires' Franco Strato lays down a super cool soulful jacking vibe while Ukraine's "Kiddmisha" brings us back down the earth in a classic Chicago haze. Beaner - "Maledicta, The Mutiny"

Skirtchaser - "Splice The Machine"
Review: After making their presence felt with the lavish packaging of their first release, the La Mission crew joins forces again with all the characters present for another well-presented journey through leftfield house and ambient compositions. Beaner's "Maledicta, The Mutiny" is the most direct of the offerings, working a mournful cello line and forlorn piano chords over a crisp tech-house rhythm while alien vocal samples inject the weird factor into the track. Krohm Ju meanwhile ditches beats in favour of a bass-laden experimental piece rich in compositional clout, as layers of arpeggios and lingering chords work to create a stirring piece. Skirtchaser then rounds the proceedings off with a low slung deep house affair with a scuffed beat and evocative found sound that feels like a brisk Sunday afternoon in autumn rolled into gently pulsing rhythm.

Review: A special vinyl-only remix couplet from Critical's bashment professor Sam Binga. First-up the ever-sharp Sully jungles the dickens out of the Warrior Queen-front "Wasted Days", adding a whole hurricane of energy through the crafty edited breaks and cool sense unpredictability. Review: The original of this first saw the light back in autumn 2013, and it remains a dynamically built nu-disco track boasting early Aeroplane style piano licks and an arresting vocal from Kristina Train. It's Blamma Blamma at their most stately and stunning. Here we find it in remix form; Psychemagik provide a liquid, bulbous bass facelift, Cato re-emphasises the nude beauty with a few edit sparkles, Wolf + Lamb go deeper with a synth heavy late-night floor stomper while Kiani vs Red D close the show with a sunset-minded slice of modern euphoria. Jamie Blanco - "Everything Once"
Kruton - "Square Cloud"
Fx Mchn - "Unkool"
Facade - "Times Ten"
Review: Within the space of two years and five releases, London Housing Trust has cemented its' reputation as one of Britain's most reliable deep house imprints. This sixth release is every bit as essential as it's predecessors, and finds Milo Smee returning to contribute under his lesser spotted Kruton alias. More commonly seen delivering thunderous acid techno as Bintus, Smee arguably provides one of the highlights of this 12" in the chugging, krautrock-influenced blast of modern day bleep-house by the name of "Square Cloud". Elsewhere, Jamie Blanco lays down some picturesque, soft-focus 808 electro, FX Machn gets all wonky and hypnotic and Facade takes us deep into dreamy, late night house territory on the pleasingly melodious "Times Ten".

Review: ** Repress ** The first of two 12" samplers heralding the forthcoming Nonplus label compilation Think and Change arrives bearing two heavy hitting tracks not to be found on the compilation proper. On the A-side, Boddika & Joy Orbison's Sunklo hit "Mercy" gets the VIP treatment from Boddika; the result is a peak time tool which strips the original down to its barest components but still maintains the juggernaut-like quality of the original. The label was formed by Axel Boman, Petter Nordkvist and Kornel Kovacs, and it's Axel who offers the first track here, "Modern Fluids", a fine follow up to his recent EP for DJ Koze's Pampa imprint. This shares with A Side with Pedrodollar's insouciant "Ner I Brunnen", before Kovacs' "Baby Step" opens things up on the flip with on a chunky deep house tip. But it's the jazzy keys and Detroit atmospherics on B-Side cut "For Sharon" by the wonderfully named Gino Bomino that wins the Juno award for EP highlight, which comes replete with vocal loops and junkyard percussion that would make KDJ proud.

While the heavy horns featured on this release were recorded in Bogota, the producer's usual Colombian flavour takes a back seat as he joins forces with Kaleta to deliver two covers of Fatback Band classics. First up is "Goin' To See My Baby", which is re-imagined as a fuzzy funk workout rich in rasping horns, tropical guitar flourishes and woodblock-driven Latin disco percussion. Arguably even better is the duo's cover of "Backstrokin'", which is given a Barrio-funk flavour complete with prominent bass, heavy-hitting horn motifs and excitable lead vocals.

Take Over is the second 12" laid down as a precursor of what Bosq has up his sleeve and the Boston-based Whisky Baron is certainly on good form. Known for his towering vocal contributions to Fela's Egypt 80, Benin-born / Nigerian-raised singer Kaleta once again lines a Bosq production in lead cut "Take Over", and it might just be their heaviest collaboration yet! Break & Kyo - "Simpler Times" (5:01)
Break - "Top Shooter" (6:02)
Review: Five years have passed since Bristol-based beat-chiseller Break last dropped the A-bomb. The whole scene has changed hugely since then, but with his new LP Break is preparing to take us back to the days when only the groove (and some perfectly processed snares) mattered: The Kyo-fronted "Simpler Times" is a barbed soul roller with just the right amount of roughage while "Top Shooter" is a straight up slapper with deep rumbling subs and Break's gritty rhythm signature. Bring on the album!

Ill Truth & Satl - "In Your Soul" (feat Charli Brix - Lenzman remix) (5:17)
Total Science & FD - "3 Way" (4:54)
Review: One look at who's involved here should raise any drum and bass head's eyebrows. All genre A-listers, it's one of those release schedule entries that's guaranteed to get everyone excited, and thankfully the pudding is just as tasty as those ingredients. Break & Kyo lead the charge with 'Past North', a summertime anthem-in-the-making opening on acoustic guitar chords that wouldn't sound weird on a Me One record. Definitely one for festivals, boxfresh percussion ensures it fully fires off once the poppier elements temporarily subside. That said, DJ Marky's 'Hard Hands' trumps it for crisp drum work, delivering some typically exotic vibes. Ill Truth and Satl's 'In Your Soul', or at least its Lenzman remix, keeps the sexy and smooth warmth alive, with '3 Way' closing out on a dub-influenced tip courtesy of Total Science and FD.

Ray Bryant - "Up Above The Rock"
Kool G Rap & DJ Polo - "On The Run"
Review: This seven from the Originals label perfectly encapsulates what the series is all about, pairing a track whose elements have been sampled numerous times over with perhaps the best example of how it was musically reinterpreted. Even if you don't know "Up Above The Rock", the title track from the 1968 LP by Philadelphia based jazz pianist and composer Ray Bryant, by name you'll immediately recognise it's distinctive break and piano riff. This latter element was incorporated superbly on the early 90s hip hop cut "On The Run" from Kool G Rap and DJ Polo which lines the B Side, slowed down somewhat but still distinctively the work of Bryant.

Christian Burkhardt & Einzelkind - "Vomit"

Kashawar - "Pink Oyster"
Volkan Akin - "I Got Nothing"
Review: There is a whole host of action going on with the latest La Pena, spanning all kinds of dancefloor focused house music from the slender and sublime to the bright and bold. Christian Burkhardt and Einzelkind get deep into a pristine minimal house shuffle with some choice guitar licks, but watch out for the curveball vocal sample that baits religious deities in the most eloquent Queen's English. Sascha Dive meanwhile is in the mood to get funky with the sample teasing burner "Do It Anyway", before Kashawar switches the vibe up with a futuristic kind of Chicago house dressed up with slick synth tones and an urgent tempo. Volkan Akin rounds off the release in a stripped down fashion with the contemplative, oddball tones of "I Got Nothing".

Review: Constant Sound is back in business with a collaborative EP from label founder Burnski and mainstay Kepler. As you should know by now, this means tech house is the order of the day, but equally these two don't rest on their laurels. 'What We Going To Do?' is a particularly fruity kind of tech house bumper with a garage bent, full-fat low end and a plethora of playful sample tweaks running throughout. 'Free' keeps the skip up, ramps up the bass and drops some classy dub touches into the blender. 'Want It' is on a similar tip, but here Burnski and Kepler take it deeper with some tasteful chords and dreamy FX processing. 'Colour' completes the set with mellow mood to balance out the uptempo thrust of the rhythm section, making for something like a sundown essential for the up all day crowd.

Review: Is there anyone in the game that has been turning out such essential club sounds in so many different styles for such a long and consistent run as Burnski? Whatever he has on his cornflakes, we want some, because he's done it again here, this time with pal Kelper. 'What I Want' takes up the whole of the a-side and is mix of everything from deep house to minimal to Chicago jack. It's a busy, restless tune with a hooky vocal that keeps you locked. 'This' is a more tripped-out 5AM groove with warped deep space sound designs and airy drums that float. 'Lucid State' taps into a dreamy 90s tech house vibe that is utterly compelling.

Review: Burnski and Kelper are two of the hottest artists in the game right now - their output is relentless, and their quality is always high. It is now on the former's Constant Sound that they appear with three fresh new collaborative cuts aimed squarely at the floor. 'Follow Me' has nice hooky drum loops and subtle synth stabs under a seductive vocal. It's fun and functional in equal measure and on the flip things get more naughty with hints of a dirty speed garage bassline under 'Frequency'. The vibe flips again on closer 'Frequency' which has disco-tinged loops and more laidback groves that bring a little warmth and sunshine.

Review: Calm's "Shining of Life", a nu-jazz era fusion of soulful U.S house influences, jazzy instrumentation and life-affirming goodtime vibes, first appeared in stores way back in 2004. Here the Japanese producer has chosen to revisit his noughties classic, serving up a brand new "2017 Full Moon Mix" that pushes the track's gospel style vocals, fluid pianos, mazy synths and tasty, disco-influenced grooves to the fore. It's a superb revision, all told, and arguably even better than the near peerless original. On the flip you'll find an unreleased version from the archives that sounds like some long lost Frankie Knuckles remix - all expansive, eyes-closed piano solos, tactile synth bass and unfussy Chicago house beats.

Review: Issued back in late 2012, the first volume of We Are Family signalled the West Norwood Cassette Library's expansion from the 10" format to the 12" format and did it in style with cuts from Don Froth, Milyoo, label boss WNCL and Knowing Looks. Since then, Bob Bhamra's label has really stepped it further with 12"s from J Tijn, Spatial, Kevin McPhee and the excellently named Kamikaze Space Programme. It seems about the right time for a second volume of We Are Family and this 12" sees cuts from Bobby Champs, McPhee, J Tijn and West Norwood Cassette Library getting the remix treatment. The Drum Tool refix of McPhee's "Circles" from Kamikaze Space Programme and West Norwood Cassette Library's Remix of J Tijn on the B Side are proper!

Review: Bouncing his time between Antibalas and his Marcos Garcia and Chico Mann projects, Chico returns after several years of silence with a sweet slice of lolloping broken soul. With its soft padded synths and cotton wool hug of Kendra Morris's vocals, there's a delicate tumble to proceedings as we nod and slide into a sound that's remained in its own soul universe since emerging almost 20 years ago. When done as well and with as much authenticity as this, it's timeless.

Review: Chico Mann and Kendra Morris combine sublimely on the Same Old Clown 12" through Soundway which is a thrilling taster of what's to come on Magical Thinking, the multi instrumentalist's third solo LP. Whilst the Antibalas guitarist has remained close to his Afrobeat roots on previous long players for Wax Poetics and Kindred Spirits, his new album is said to offer a more expansive portrayal of Chico's tastes taking in latin, freestyle, funk and boogie and "Same Old Clown" certainly suggests this is a rewarding approach. Mann's classic squelching 80s electro funk arrangement is the perfect backdrop for Kendra's slinky vocals and the accompanying remixes from Linkwood and Kon only serve to show her range, with the Firecracker man's boogie house update our personal favourite here at Juno.

Review: For the latest volume in their Foundations series on BBE, Kai Alce and DJ Spinna have decided to reissue one of the finest records from the earliest days of Chicago house, Chip-E's spellbinding 1985 anthem "Like This". This seven-inch edition features a fresh edit of Chip-E's original cub mix on the A-side. This version is essential largely because of the quality of K-Joy's impeccable vocal, though the re-mastered sound also makes Chip-E's crunchy Roland drum machine hits, bold synth-bass and spacey lead lines sound better than ever. Turn to the flip for the heavy and stripped-back "DDD Dub" version, which makes more use of the short "Like This" vocal, which was originally provided by the Godfather of House himself, Frankie Knuckles.

Review: The Fabric Originals label continues to establish itself as a place that is just as reliable for fresh sounds as the club it is named after. This latest outing is a 21st such EP and comes from the one and only garage great that is MJ Cole paired with new school innovator K Lone. They make a perfect partnership, in truth, with opener 'Stand Up' pairing balmy pads and rich bass sounds with a hooky little vocal. It's brilliantly sensuous with tender keys finishing it in style. Cole then goes it alone on 'Lay It All On The Line' which has a more broken post-dubstep style beat and K-Lone's 'Bonez' is delightfully airy, cavernous bass brilliance.

Previous editions have canvassed Berlin, Paris, Rome and Barcelona and featured high profile names like Subjected, Zadig, and Giorgi Gigli. Dnepr and Vancouver are the locations here and the standard of artists is just as high and comes with a personal dedication to M_Rec founder Max_M, whose passing this year is still being felt among the techno community. Naturally Dnepr's Stanislav Tolkachev features, laying down a hefty A-side closer in "Follow Me" with more restrained efforts from Subforms and The Automatic Message offering some respite.

Review: Given that Hard Fist's first two releases hit home hard, hopes are naturally high for the imprint's third 12". Whereas releases one and two were solo EPs, Princes of Abzu is something of an all-star affair. Label founders Cornelius Doctor and Tushen Rai join forces for the excellent, Acid Arab-esque opener "Place Du Pont", while Jakam's superb "Tribes" brilliantly joins the dots between Afro-house, Middle Eastern exotica and, most thrillingly of all, spiritual jazz. Elsewhere, Shadi Khries' "Semsemeh" is a dark and atmospheric chunk of psychedelic acid-jack and Timothy Clerkin's fuzzy and aggressive "Akama" is a mid-altering analogue chugger.

The Cosmic Hole is the corner of the club that champions slower, freakier sounds, and the corresponding 12" kicks off in style with the throbbing acid chug of "Mount Anal" by CPI. Juan Ramos brings something of a nightmarish industrial clamour to "Skincrawler", while Kris Baha gets bombastic on the full-fat "Paralleled". Bezier completes the package with "Starpoint", a mystical affair shaped out by yearning strings and subtle rhythms.

"Home" kicks things off with a mild-paced, sun-kissed groove for the downtempo heads, "Meditations" is a distinctly jazzy moment, "Fatherless Boys" takes us back to Dego-like broken beat years, and "Spark!" heads back to the Blue Note for some more jazz experimentation. Over on the B-side, "Requiem+Reflections" nods to house and salutes funk, whereas "(Faith)" meanders its placid waters through a long, meditative river of harmony. Beautifully executed music, end of.

Review: If icy, robotic club electro is your thing, we'd recommend picking up this multi-artist EP from Luke Eargoggle's Stilleben Records imprint. Cygnus kicks things off with the sleazy hustle of "Download Her", a decidedly wonky but on-point number that comes complete with Egyptian Lover style spoken word vocals, before Kuldaboli delivers a funky, weighty and stripped-back club rocker rich in twisted acid bass, mind-altering noises and robotic club beats. Over on side B, Rodney weighs in with the up-tempo deep space rumble of "This Isn't Something I Want Anymore", whose acid style bassline is funky as hell (and twice as hot), while Naoamm channels the spirit of both Kraftwerk and Drexciya on the bleep-laden heaviness of "Telecommunication".

While the first release showed the men at their more sedate and meditative, this one shows a darker side to the influential producers. Both taking up a side each, both players showcase their finest dynamics. "Module Eight" is as dramatic as it is naked. All tribal thunder, scratchy samples and paranoid groans and "Void Response" is a much more psychedelic affair with heavily textured synths smothering moody halfstep beats. Meanwhile in Kid Drama HQ "Kill Time" is a very light and airy steppy sensation while "Separation" is a caustic riddim piece that balances razor sharp beats and arresting minor chords.
