Fragments Of Reality Vol 3
Fragments Of Reality Vol 3 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: FOR 03. Rel: 04 Apr 22
Deep House
  1. Ataxia & Mister Joshooa - "Subversive"
  2. Harrison BDP - "Dirty Mochyn"
  3. Adam Pits - "Pat On The Back"
  4. Keisuke - "OK Taiko"
Review: Fragments of Reality returns for the eagerly awaited third instalment with four exclusive tracks catering for diverse dancefloors.

ATAXIA & Mister Joshooa kick off with 'Subversive' - a slick tripped-out breakbeat-driven jam from Detroit's Marble Bar and TV Lounge residents. It's a powerful and expertly programmed production with a barrage of drums and bass held down by an array of ricocheting synth and vocal FX, tried and tested on Detroit's most discerning dancefloors. Next up Harrison BDP let's loose with 'Dirty Mochyn', a 90's inspired roller from the prolific producer featuring his signature dubby sound design, synth licks and a throbbing bassline.

Strap yourselves in, as the flip side opens with a deep house composition from hotly tipped Leeds based producer Adam Pits. 'Pat On The Back' sucks you into a wormhole of bubbling music with cosmic pads swirling around the stereo field and a beautifully expressive synth line - finished to perfection with a highly swung TR909 groove. The record is then perfectly balanced by Berlin based Keisuke with 'Ok Taiko' - a deep driving house track following hot on the heels from his killer debut EP on Phonica White. 'Ok Taiko' oozes with TB303 goodness and nostalgia-evoking piano stabs, all strung together with an ever evolving house rhythm.

  1. Shanti Celeste - "Fantasma" (5:54)
  2. OCB - "RS3" (4:13)
  3. Michelle - "Aesthetic" (7:11)
  4. Bobby - "Free Your Mind" (6:34)
  5. Peder Mannerfelt - "Our Levels" (7:14)
  6. Yu Su - "Brittney" (live mix) (8:27)
  7. Adam Pits - "Wind Tunnel" (5:07)
  8. DJ Sports - "Needs Dub" (4:11)
Review: Needs' commendable charity drive continues to bring forth the goods, both in terms of good causes and world class club music. Rallying round in support of World Mental Health Day 2020, Shanti Celeste kicks the record off in style with the rapid fire, deep-diving workout 'Fantasma'. OCB keeps the pressure up with the psychotropic techno of 'RS3', while Michelle works up some delightfully freaky synths on playful jacker 'Aesthetic'. Bobby's 'Free Your Mind' is a 90s-tinged, full fat techno production indebted to Detroit, Peder Mannerfelt keeps things stripped and raw on 'Our Levels' and Yu Su weaves a beautiful tapestry of interweaving rhythms on 'Brittney'. Adam Pits' trippy techno sounds resplendent on 'Wind Tunnel' and DJ Sports completes the set with the inventive, dembow slanted funk of 'Needs Dub'.

A Recurring Nature

  2. Fungus Hunter (7:41)
  3. Creepy Crawlies (6:00)
  4. Space Between (5:22)
  5. A Recurring Nature (6:16)
  6. Capitulation (4:56)
  7. The Age Of Ent (6:26)
  8. Foliage (8:50)
Review: Adam Pits has thus far been one of the most prolific producers of 2021, releasing a series of 12" singles that gleefully mix and match elements of different styles while keeping a steely focus on the dancefloor. A Recurring Nature, his debut album, takes a different approach, combining psychedelic electronics, interesting instrumentation and suitably hallucinatory synth sounds to excellent effect. After beginning with the string-laden, slow-motion chug of 'As Far as the Eye Can See', Pits charges through a range of psychedelic techno, breaks and heavy electro cuts, before trying his hand at hallucinatory ghetto-tech ('Space Between'), Eris Drew style trippy techno ('A Recurring Nature'), tactile ambient ('Capitulation') and psychedelic neo-trance ('Foliage'). Shroomin' good stuff all told.

International Wafter: The Remixes
Cat: HAZER 02. Rel: 22 Jan 21
Minimal/Tech House
  1. International Wafter (7:19)
  2. International Wafter (Ciel vocal Refix) (6:54)
  3. Motion Sensor (Roza Terenzi remix) (6:54)
  4. Magenta (Seb Wildblood remix) (5:47)
Review: Adam Pits gets his 'International Wafter' served up on its own 12" here along with a super selection of remixes. It still sounds fantastic with its rubbery kicks and corrugated bass rolling at an inviting mid tempo. Label mainstay Ciel then steps up for a first remix that pairs everything back to cavernous, bouncy drums and watery effects and rhythm innovator Roza Terenzi remixes '
Motion Sensor' into a brightly lit and pixelated melodic rave up with thumping kicks and endless cosmic rains. Last of all, Seb Wildblood brings a tribal take on deep techno with his surging kicks and pulsing pads all melting your mind.

  2. Pookie - "Beast Mode" (6:33)
  3. Tom Esselle - "Lou's Groove" (3:07)
  4. Hassan Abou Alam - "Hella Mega Drive" (6:04)
  5. Adam Pits - "Cluster Funk" (5:42)
  6. Kareem Ali - "Black Futures" (5:52)
Review: Rhythm Section International's bumper Shouts 2021 sampler has been split into two and spread of a pair of vital 12"s. This is the swooned half and it is just a good as the first with our favourite being from the hugely prolific and mega-on form breakout artist of the year, Kareem Ali. His 'Black Futures' is a steamy, surging house track with kicking kicks and astral synths that speak to the soul. Hassan Abou Alam's 'Hella Mega Drive' spins hi hats, drums and bass into a tightly woven groove of no fixed genre and the swing in Pookie's 'Beast Mode' is simply irresistible. Big ups one and all.
