'I Know U Care' is then a more upbeat jam with organic percussion and swinging drums topped with another gorgeous r&b vocal. Two cosy party starters from this ever-on-form American.

Review: Rhadoo has long been in a class of his own when it comes to crafting intricately detailed minimal. Despite doing so for decades, he still finds freshness in his particular milieu, as he does again here on Secret Society, teaming up with multi-discipliniary artist and sound wizard Traian Chereches under the RH.CHER moniker. The cerebral 'Gwen' beings with liquid synths and gloopy sounds, dry hits and kicks and vocal swirls that infuse the whole thing with eerie soul. Review: In 2003, deep in Croydon's Online Studios, the roots of proper tech house - we said *proper* tech house - were spreading underground. It was here that Evasive label head Rob joined forces with Simon Copleston, aka. Iteration X, for a fresh collaboration under the new alias Rob & Si. The project followed the underground momentum built by Iteration X's earlier 'Timecheck / Liquid Logic' EP, and merged the individual styles of both into a unified, forward-pulsing, projectile sound. The result was 'Roll One Up / Zebras', the 2003 two-tracker reminiscent of the sultry out-breaths characterising much of the 2-step garage that would emerge in parallel at the time. 'Zebraz' is an extra-special dubbing; an aposematic m(s)onochrome moving through various echos, stabs and what sound like field recordings of startled wildlife.

Justin's vocal touches on themes of political oppression in the US, delivered with real feeling and weight. The late, great Phil Asher was such a fan, he jumped on the remix - his 'Restless Soul Dub' strips things back but keeps the warmth intact. Also in the package is a standout Blaktones Mix, a proper bruk workout that channels peak Afronaught energy. Timeless sounds from key players - rough, raw and still hitting hard.

Review: Fletcher heads up the Social Currency label but you may also know him from his superb work with Mosaic boss Steve O'Sullivan. It's no wonder then that he calls up his dub techno buddy for the second outing here. They kick off with 'Flutter' which is a minimal dub masterpiece with light and airy synths, yep, fluttering up top above rooted, rolling drums. Fletcher then goes it alone for 'From A Different Place' which is a little more anxious in its loops but still has gorgeous melodies streaming through the mix. 'This Day Has Been Too' is another fine solo cut that explores insular and inward moods with great deftness.

Review: Karizma's latest offering proves that simple ingredients assembled with love and skill often yield the best results. There's nothing over-egged about Tech This Out, but its compelling less-is-more approach impressed label boss Atjazz so much he heralded the release as one of the "best underground house records ever made." Karizma, who hails from Maryland, has always been a master of rhythm and he proves it here as pulsing chords glide over loose-but-locked drums, rolling toms and sub-rooted bass. Pure and timeless, it grooves beautifully i and it's easy to see what got Atjazz so excited. His remix sounds mighty fine too, naturally leaning into the OG while adding some percussive depth, while the Yoruba Soul version strips things back further, with harmonic overdubs taking the arrangement for a meandering walk.

Review: Returning to Purple Print after contributing one to their second V/A, 'Dreaming In A Shell', Zenk links arms with Ted Amber for a new, formative four-track release. 'Nairobi Market' and its corresponding remix by Amber retread an apparent recent jaunt to Kenya, where a fantastical, mercantile mirage is said to have informed on the cyborg textures you hear here. 'Juicy Breakfast' takes and uses the dried viands bought on said market, amounting to a nice morning metal repast of nuts, bolts, and gluons: fatty acids, rivet potpourri, slippery background sound design. 'Memesis' titularly invokes the goddess of divine retribution but reduces her to an edible meme, as restless, posthuman vocalisations are heard to mutter and chirrup between snap-up beats.

On this EP, the first of two, the Body & Soul NYC resident offers up extended revisions of a quartet of cuts. He begins with 'New Africa', wrapping a gorgeous sand gently soulful vocal workout in spacey synths and layers of spiritual house percussion, before upping the tempo on the breathless and brilliant 'Griot Ba'. His love of deep, dubby basslines, restless percussion and delay-laden vocal snippets comes to the fore on EP highlight 'The Ya Yo People', whjle 'Drum Sore' - a version of what sounds like an early to mid 1980s number - very much lives up to its name.

Review: Body & Soul NYC resident Joaquin 'Joe' Clausell has launched a new series, 'Iboga' - an extension of his 'unofficial edits and overdubs' project focused on "psychedelic takes" on "African classics". He begins EP number two with 'Abuja Rough', a rolling, lightly housed-up take on a lesser-known mid-80s Afro-synth-pop number, before ratcheting up the tempo, intensity and percussive pressure on 'Summer Africa'. He successfully straightens out and beefs up an organ-rich Afronbeat workoput on 'People', while standout 'Afrikan Basement' is a lightly dubbed-out chunk of densely percussive Afro-house topped off with effects-laden vocals and sax solos.

Review: Back in the mid 2000s, at the height of his minimal-era fame, German-based producer Ricardo Villalobos released a now highly sought-after compilation of his early singles from the late 1990s, Salvador. Rawax has wisely decided to reissue it on wax, stretching the material across a trio of 12" singles. This first volume features a trio of must-have early Villalobos treats: the Playhouse style micro-house-meets-wonky deep house epic 'Lazer@Present' (here renamed 'Lazer Present'); 1998's 'Unflug', where his now infamous obsession with the percussion sounds of his native Chile combines with spacey synths and heavy grooves; and 1999's proto-minimal hypnotism, the superb (and seriously wayward) 'Tempura'.

Review: French DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist Olivier Portal sadly passed away in January, aged 65. His best work came as Playin 4 The City and this EP is one of his most sought-after on the Plastik People label. It features two tracks originally released on the 'Backshop' EP on Tropism Records 2002 and one newer sound. Opener 'Minor Track' is a brilliantly aloof deep house cut with swinging, dubby drums and cute chord stabs that do enough to keep you moving. 'Backfire' is just as breezy but a little quicker with some sleek synths and nice claps moving things on with a cosmic edge. 'Backside' rides a nice chunky, tumbling rhythm with more subtle but seductive synth work.

Review: Since founding the admirable Scissor & Thread label 14 years ago, Francis "Frank" Harris and Anthony "Tony" Collins have made very few appearances on other labels - making this outing on Hamburg's masters of all things deep and dreamy, Smallville Records, a notable excursion. As befits both label and artist, the three tracks on offer are genuinely atmospheric and ultra-deep, albeit still blessed with enough groove and bottom-end oomph to titillate late-night and early morning dancefloors. For proof, check A-side 'Ways of Mine', with its yearning pads, warm bass, heady spoken word snippets, spacey electronics and locked-in beats. The quality threshold remains high on the flip, where the slow burning (and even deeper) 'After All' is joined by the intergalactic dancefloor drift of 'Dimension'.

Review: Session Victim ease into a looser, more eclectic groove with Sidequests Chapter One - the first in a new trilogy of EPs from the much-loved German duo. Back in their familiar DOG home, as ever, there's warmth and musicality running through it all, blending dusty house, broken beat and a touch of downtempo haze. Lead track Pulse of Memory is a collaborative effort with Viken Arman, and it's a beauty, with its woozy keys, layered textures and unmistakable shuffle. Frits Wentink takes that same track and flips it for the floor, adding a little low-end thump and clipped drums in his signature off-kilter style. The rest of the EP continues in similarly playful fashion - plenty of live instrumentation, a few carefully chosen samples, and the sense that these are producers still having fun, even after all these years in the game.

Review: British soul man Omar has been remixed countless times over the years, often with genuinely spellbinding or dancefloor ready results. Back in 2010, Peppermint Jam delivered an incredible set of revisions, which 15 years later has finally been given the reissue treatment. The EP begins with a superb -house-goes-soul take on 'Feeling You' courtesy of Henrik Schwarz (who was then at the peak of his dancefloor powers), before Triad delivers a smoother, deeper, and more gorgeously spaced-out flip of 'Stylin'. Over on the reverse, Andre Lodemann joins the dots between deep house and tech-house on a Berlin-ready rework of 'Lay It Down', while Show B slaps down an inspired (and still much-played) acid house-fired interpretation of 'Your Mess'.

Review: This low-key repress offers a clean update of a record long out of circulation, with three deep cuts newly edited and remastered for 45 RPM. 'Memorandum', previously heard at Giegling events, opens with slow-moving pads and a narrow rhythmic range, relying on subtle modulation rather than arrangement shifts. 'Semper' continues with more drive i a stripped-back exercise in low-end pulse and restraint, built around clipped percussion and minimal harmonic information. The B-side features the edit of 'Mountain021.1', a long-circulating favourite that trades in delay-heavy loops and soft saturation, keeping the groove linear and open-ended. The new master preserves the original's softness without dulling its detail. It's not flashy, but it's durable i functional material that wears its age lightly.

'AAA001A' is a wicked mix of synthetic and organic sound - a heartfelt male vocal and new age flutes, sci-fi melodies and bubbly drums all coalesce into a hypnotic roller, then 'BBB001B' picks up the pace with a smattering of silvery toms and snares over dubby beats. Last of all, 'BBB002B' brings some colour next to trippy and abstract synths and whispered vocals that are stitched into a silky and ever-evolving rhythm. Classy stuff.

Review: Ira Jame's Vessel Recordings Group comes through with a brilliant selection of remixes of one of the best deep house tunes of the genre's early era. Ron Trent and Chez Damier's 'Don't Try It' is a bumping cut with vibey vocals and steamy synths that rock any party, and here it gets reworked into myriad different moods. There's a slower, more seductive Natural Rhythm vocal, a sturdy Nonfiction mix delicately spruced with Wonder-esque keys, a Joshua Try The dub rework with more spiritual synths and slower, spacious drums, a bubbly Andrew Macari String Me Along vocal mix that is cuddly and warm and a chunky Andrew Emil 2M19 dub that rolls heavy with fizzy, sugary chords. Each one breathes fresh life into the original, but always with a sympathetic hand.

Review: An ever-present name in underground house, Alex Celler is back once again on Baby Ford's cult Trelik label. This is his third and maybe best outing yet with 'Twilight Firedancer' being a long and extended dub tech workout with wobbly bass and off-balance drums topped with glowing chords that bring occasional relief to the pressure of the groove. 'Mescaline' is much more busy with abstract pops and squeaks, synth modulations and an urgent, tightly programmed minimal tech groove that you would expect of this label. It's high-class music for mind and body.

Review: Watersheds of feelgood house and gloss-talgic beats abound on Sofia Kourtesis' new album Volver, out now via Ninja Tune. Written between Berlin and Lima, it's the producer and DJ's most vibrant and politically charged work yet, billed as a dedication to trans women and queer communities fighting for survival under corrupt healthcare systems in Latin America. Laid throughout with rousing spoken-work samples calling for street protest and revolutions of everyday life, this is a modern summer house record with a reinstallation of the same sense of political urgency inscribed in much New York ballroom and early deep house. Kourtesis likens its creation to an Almodovar film: chaotic, painful, and joy-soaked, recorded while juggling the whopping combo of world tours, grassroots activism, the care of her mother, and medical school. Lead single 'Unidos' is a kinetic collaboration with Daphni aka Dan Snaith, notably marking his first release under that alias with another artist.
