6th Borough Project - "Estranged Lover"
Haku - "Rugo"
Andy Ash - "Somehow"
Deep Space Orchestra - "Erase Everything"
Review: The Use of Weapons imprint has mastered the easy to grasp, hard to master formula of matching clutches of (excellent) original tracks from Cottam and label bosses Deep Space Orchestra with well-chosen and even better executed remixes from the likes of Hunee, Neville Watson and Marcello Napoletano. The fourth release sees a change in tack, with the label opting to focus on original material from 6th Borough Project, Haku, Andy Ash and of course Deep Space Orchestra. Graeme The Revenge Clark and Craig Smith kick off proceedings with the suitable thick set slow burning "Estranged Lover", though it's "Rugo" by Haku that impresses most. The new project of Deep Space Orchestra's Chris Barker, the track is a superb kaleidoscopic concoction of fizzing uptempo live percussion, synths and drum machines that has more than a touch of the Carl Craigs about it. Andy Ash switches proceedings back to chunky mutant discoid dirt with the heads down, tops off vibes of "Somehow" while the Deep Space Orchestra head for the expanses of future tech jazz with the ten minute odyssey "Erase Everything".

Review: The mighty Defeated has got a fun package on its hands here with some fat disco and house anthems primed and ready for big room summer fun. A'Studio's 'SOS' (feat Polina - Skylark remix - Nic Fanciulli edit) is chunky house with a hooky vocal and rolling groove designed to sweep you up and away. Chloe Caillet then remixes Tensnake's classic 'Coma Cat' into a hands-in-the-air house stomper with epic strings. Harry Romero's sweaty 'Revolution' gets its drums buffed up and well swung by a House Master's Edit and Prunk & Rona Ray steal the EP at the last with their lush vocal house cut 'Keep It Simple.'

Aatropa & Tephillin - "Bells Jam"
Fabric - "Split Guest"
Herron - "33 Weeks"
Metropolis - "The Great Lake"
Review: After a successful first round that featured the likes of Kassem Mosse alongside Juniper and some lesser known friends of the label, Manchester promoters-turned-imprint Meandyou are back with another various artists release that plumbs further depths around the fringe pools of house and techno. Aatropa & Tephillin deliver the most upfront cut in "Bells Jam", which still lurks in oddball synth flourishes around a chunky thud of kick drum, before Fabric drifts out into ambient bliss. Herron meanwhile plies a long lead-in before blossoming into a dexterous and delicate broken techno formation of the highest order, and then Metropolis cools things back down with a winsome groan of a beatless excursion.

Chocolate Black Leather (original mix)
Chocolate Black Leather (Brennan Green Acid dub)
Chocolate Black Leather (Brennan Green instrumental remix)
Chocolate Black Leather (Brennan Green beatless version)
Review: Danny Was A Drag King, the delightfully named new record label initiative betwixt Ajello and Hell Yeah launches with a veritable bang! "Chocolate Black Leather" sees the former veterans of the contemporary Italo disco scene team up with it's premier queen, Hard Ton, for a delightfully loud mixture of crisp drums, acidic basslines and schizoid synth arpeggiations - all naturally engulfed in the diva stylings of Hard Ton. Just to add an extra smattering of "you might want to buy this" D.W.D.K. enlisted Brooklyn icon Brennan Green to get busy on the source material - and in a pique of generosity the China Town boss came through with no less than three variants. Whilst all three are tinged with acidic intent to varying degrees it is the full-on wig out of "Acid Dub" that impresses most.

Amir Alexander - "Eyes Open Mouth Shut"
Amir Alexander - "Bittersweet Memories"
Hakim Murphy - "Hazey Plains In Time"
Hakim Murphy - "Chill"
Review: This split EP offers a number of attractions, not least a luscious sound that fixes classic, Detroit style futurism to vintage deep house grooves. There's something particularly galactic about the undulating synths and tight grooves of Hakim Murphy's "Hazey Plains In Time", while the same producer's "Chill" delivers a bubbling journey through warm electronics and tasty melodies. More obviously floor-friendly is Amir Alexander's borderline anthemic "Eyes Open Mouth Shut" - all touchy-feely chords, booming grooves and cascading synth melodies - while the quicker "Bittersweet Memories" evokes images of classic Motor City productions. Impressive stuff, all told.

Review: Atree aka Smoove & Mocean, and debutante Hagel inaugurate new imprint Tutto Bene with a couple of killer tracks and some equally impressive remixes. On the A-side, there's the moody acid techno of 'Die Another Day' with its bouncy bassline and overall ravey aesthetic, followed by a tripped-out minimal techno rework by Italy's Lorenzo Chiabotti. Over on the flip, you've got one more original in the form of 'Too Easy', a groovy and swing-infused minimal house jam that's perfect tackle for the afterhours, and they've tapped the one-and-only Audio Werner for his perspective on the track - and he always delivers.

Apiento is back on World Building with another excellently soul infused deep house gem that builds on the much loved "Things You Do For Love" 7". Subtle acid flecked bassline snakes in and out of the crisp drums as buttery smooth, heartbroken lyrics up top get you where it hurts. It's hugely sophisticated and absorbingly understated. Apiento & Tepper's dubbed out version recalls the early work of the one and only Larry Heard before a beatless Padapella closes things out for those who want to really make a dramatic emotional statement pre, mid or post-set.

Review: Akira Arasawa opens up with psychedelic Balearic house on 'Panorama New Touch' while OR's 'Hammock Beats' is glitchy and low-slung downtempo. On the flip is the nine-minute head melter 'Liquidanz' with its rippling synth modulations and Hutte Sound System close down with the dreamy end of the night soother 'Fire Fly'. Ibadan Records doesn't release anywhere near as many EPs as it once did, but those that the label does put out tend to be action-packed and of the highest quality. Their latest - the third edition in their occasional "Leads & Bites" multi-artist series - certainly fits the bill. Label founder Jerome Sydenham is undoubtedly the star of the show. He first joins forces with Argy on a hypnotic late night Dub of basement-bothering big room workout "Whisper Track", before going solo on the off-kilter, minor key deep house brilliance of "Purple Beech". Over on side B he collaborates with Janne Tavi on the "Weekend"-sampling deep piano house flex of "Street Jazz", before layering up toasty Rhodes riffs and sweaty, cymbal heavy jazz-house beats on his "Raw Dub" of Herb Martin's "Soul Drums".

Review: The French brat pack are back; Around7 and Joss Moog are a couple of Phil Weeks' proteges and they turn in some sweet disco edits here. They just so happen to own the label too. Around7's "Live At Fillmore" sounds so awesome; is it possibly a Moodymann/Norma Jean Bell edit? Moog's "I cant Say No" is some proper disco house deepness. On the flip, they've got some newcomers in the form of Paul Cut with "Heaven" a loopy soul-funk cut up and Hatelate with "The Boogie Show" which is pretty sweet, who did he sample on this one again? Reminiscent of "Working Nights" era Trus'me.

Review: Philpot's Traxworx series got off to a blinding start earlier this year with the dust down from Roman Rauch and label regular Ike and it looks to be quite the promising endeavour if the line-ups remain as strong as this second duel featuring Arttu and Hakim Murphy. Neither artist really needs a formal introduction here and both are well suited for the floor focused nature of this series. Arttu is first up with "Can't Get Down" a collaboration with Kaye that bounces along with loose and deadly intent - if you liked the Geeeman stuff on Clone you will love this pappy, especially when that sax comes in! On the flip Innerspace Halflifer Hakim Murphy goes for the abstract approach on "ES1" which features some superb drum edits.

Review: Ralph Lawsons'20/20 Vision label has done a fine job of evolving and re-emerging after its 20th anniversary and is now serving up cutting edge sounds from fresh new artists once more. It has done plenty of good work in the world of electro recently but here it goes back to deep house from a fine rabble of artists. There is a slick bump n funk to the opener before warped cosmic tones and neon colours define the speedy deep techno of Harrison BDP's 'Dirty Mochyn.' On the flip are some more of those breezy Adam Pits beats and Keisuke's 'OK Taiko' then brings an early, percussive house vibe that takes us back to late 80s Chicago.

Review: Back ion 2021, the relaunched Foliage Records imprint offered up a killer mix from NYC house legends Mood II Swing, the must-check Deep Rooted. Soon, the revitalised label will release a sequel, with long-serving British deep house don Atjazz at the helm. There's much to enjoy throughout, from the tense, slowly building deep-tech shuffle of Halo''s 'Glorty (Atjazz Galaxy Art Remix)'and the sun-splashed 6am bounce of Atjazz's remix of Dominique Fils-Aime's gorgeous 'Sun Rise', to the dreamy dancefloor wooziness of Ralf GUM's 'AWA' (re-imagined by Atjazz as an Osunlade-esque spiritual house workout) and the jazzy, bass-guitar-propelled broken house excellence of 'On The Road (Vocal Mix)', a three-way collab between Atjazz, Kelli Sae and The Realm.

Review: Since -re-establishing his early noughties Visions imprint in 2017, Swiss scene stalwart Alex Attias has delivered some of his most impressive and musically dexterous material. He's at it again here on a two-tracker that showcases his love of studio collaboration. Our pick of the pair is exuberant, life-affirming A-side "The Message (For You)", a sublime slab of loose-limbed Latin house soulfulness featuring vocals from Justin Chapman and keys-work from Japanese artist Hajime Yochizawa. Attias' old pal Mark De Clive-Lowe lends a hand of equally positive and sparkling flipside "The Waiting Game", adding all manner of jazz-funk inspired sound synths to a fine, rubbery deep house workout.

Review: House of Chez is the new label from the legendary American deep house pioneer Chez Damier. It follows involvement with the seminal Prescription with Ron Trent in the 90s, then his own Balance, and finds him once again serving up super fresh grooves. He appears himself on 'Together' with his French studio partner as H2H and also Damian Rausch and the tune is pure and steamy house deepness. Elsewhere Emanuele Barilli gets dreamy with 'Unconscious Relief', there is a soulful vocal to the dry beats of Mosis's 'Pick It Up' and Oscide's 'No Use' is a little more prickly and direct.

"Les Perdre" (which apparently is still in demo phase but sounds great to us) creates a superb spring effect in the groove with clever reverse textures before suddenly dropping into organ heaven mid way. Elsewhere we find Barnett adding a little warm analog spring to proceedings himself as he gives "Berlin Nights In Paris" and (fittingly) "Made In Detroit" his own titanium jack and subtle tendrils of acid.

Review: Hot Creations has now put out well over 225 records, which is no mean feat, but even more impressive is that it still very much sets the conversation for a certain section of the house world. This new EP pairs off Beltran with Harry Valencia and offers some interesting fusions of tribal, Latin, house and tech. There is a wonky feel to opener 'Origins' (3AM Tusi mix) with its characterful vocal chants and percussive grooves, while Beltran's solo cut 'Tira A Roupa' (feat Mc Jajau - Putaria mix) has a Spanish feel and a fat bass guitar riff that brings rubbery funk to the crisp tech drums. Last of all, Harvy Valencia goes it alone on closer 'Brut' which is more steamy and sweaty and ready for some sun-kissed open-air deployment.

Review: Northern Irish duo Bicep has built their production career on blending, repackaging and reimagining classic house influences. It's little surprise, then, to find that this latest 12" does the same. Hammer collaboration "Dahlia" sets the tone, combining the bold pianos of vintage Italian house with the kind of dreamy pads and snappy drum machine rhythms that recall the Halcyon days of late '80s/early '80s Balearic house. There's more of a sweaty warehouse feel about "Rays" - all yelping female vocal cuts, booming garage bass and skipping beats - while "Seagulls" sits somewhere between the two tracks, offering both bottom-end bump and eyes-closed sweetness.

Review: By their standards, 2014 has been a relatively quiet year for Belfast boys Bicep, with a remix 12" and the Circles EP on Aus Music their only releases of note. "Lyk Lyk" is, then, a welcome return to action. The title track is particularly sweaty and once again mines vintage rave influences, with fluid synths and cut-up vocals riding a classic late '80s/early '90s breakbeat groove. "Poly Pineapple" is a little deeper, with waves of wide-eyed synths crashing over a thumping house groove. On the flipside, the duo join forces with partner-in-blogging Hammer for a couple of cuts; the woozy, glacial, synth-heavy "Icebowl" and "Day 3", a stomping chunk of retro-futurist techno smothered in 808 State style synths. Balearic techno anyone?

Review: Compost Disco come through with their finest release to date with Kasper Bjorke indulging his inner boompty to great effect. Along with the recent Super Bacon collaborative EP with Tommy Barford on Mirau, this release suggests Bjorke has plenty to offer when focusing on house and techno productions. "Go Away Song" features the sweet vocal talents of compatriot Danish Josephine Philip atop a stripped back techno bump beefed up by pulsing bass. Some deft 80s style hip house scratches add a element of light hearted musical ingenuity before the drop into a truly evil three note bass stab which is countered by the lucidity of Philip's voice. Additional remixes come in the shape of a Wareika effort that embellishes the minimal snap with an oddball jazz sheen. On the flip Danish newcomers Holtoug add to their growing reputation with a remix that marries the musicality of Noze with an infectious house bump whilst Bjorke's dub version makes you miss Philip's voice.

This time Blind Boxers proudly share the Ep with house giants Hector Moralez and Chris Carrier, exploring some of the finest shades of the underground dance music. Vintage drums, bubbling synth elements, trippy pad lines, everything mixed with that unique forward-thinking nature that marked this platform as one of the most appealing vinyl-only record label out there.

Axel Boman - "Something Bad On My Mind"
Beaner - "Zuckermann's Geburstags Feier"
HAYDN - "Booty Meat"
Review: The slightly illict Backyard Impressions series from Mr Tophat's Junkyard Connection label commenced back in 2012 with a 12" featuring the man himself alongside Art Alfie and Adam Stromstedt. And then it was put to one side as the label focused efforts on full artist releases for the most part. 2015 has already seen the label issue some fine material from Laguna Ladies and Your Place Is Next, we now seen the return of Backyard Impressions lead by Axel Boman! The tat-heavy Studio Barnhus man "Has Something Bad On My Mind" apparently and that manifests in a clipped blues-infused house track hoe down. On the flip Beaner gets busy on the sampler with Sixto Rodriguez on the dreamy "Zuckermann's Geburstags Feier" and Hadyn remoulds the classic ghetto house template as rich deepness on "Booty Meat".

Review: Short Attention has more than grabbed ours with its first two EPs and this third one keeps up that good early form. It's a heavy-hitting mix of pivotal house talents starting off with prolific Windy City player Boo Williams. The big man's 'Transformation' is a smooth and chord-laced house roller that has a more reflective vibe than his usual party-starting offerings. Atlanta don Kai Alce's 'Love Exists' is a heartfelt house romance then the long-time partnership of Owen Jay & Melchior Sultana douse us in star-gazing chords on 'Soul Expression' that leave you feeling refreshed. Hector Ram's 'Morning Sun Vibes' then uplifts with beautifully gentle piano chords.

Brame & Hamo - "Clockwerk" (Session Victim remix)
Hamo - "SOUL"
Brame - "Full Custody"
Review: The sleepy seaside town of Sligo, based on Ireland's Atlantic coast, seems an unlikely location to base a deep house label. More remarkably, this debut 12" from Sligo-based Splendor & Squalor comes from two residents of the town: longtime DJ buddies and hip-hop/deep house fusionists Brame and Hamo. It's a strong first outing, with each of the three original cuts coming doused in smooth soul and hip-hop influences. That's means beats that swing, sensual strings, chunky bass and the kind of pads that seem to wrap themselves around your body. The duo's collaborative "Clockwork" - arguably the pick of the bunch - is also remixed by Session Victim (think ultra-deep goodness), while Hamo's sample-heavy "Soul" offers the perfect balance between smiling deep house and classic hip-house.

Review: Following impressive collaborative outings on Dirt Crew and their own Splendor & Squalor label, Brame and Hamo once again join forces, this time for Detroit Swindle's Heist Recordings. Predictably, there's genuine warmth throughout, as the duo showcases more tactile deep house compositions. Opener "Parish Rumours" sets the tone, lacing filter-clad female vocal samples and twinkling melodies over a compressed, cymbal-heavy groove. The filters once again come to the fore on the sweet, soul-sampling "Ghetto For You", while "Hotshot" delivers the kind of loose, hazy and jazz-flecked deep house jam - think hazy horns, tumbling chords, held-note strings and bluesy vocal cut-ups - that evokes images of humid days reclining on Adriatic terraces and Mediterranean cliff-tops.

Review: Fresh from dropping fine EPs on Heist and Splendor & Squalor, regular collaborators Brame and Hamo join forces for their second outing on Dirt Crew. Opener "Lamaj" is little less than sublime, with twinkling piano and string samples riding a loose, lolloping, jazz-flecked deep house groove. Andy Hart's straighter, chunkier remix is good, too, though it lacks a little of the original's yearning blissfulness. Elsewhere, the duo doffs a cap to boogie and funk on the sumptuous summer house jam "Four Lights", before closing proceedings with the rolling grooves and fireside Rhodes chords of the bizarrely titled "Garlic Fist Pump".

Review: Hands up who's fantasized about an extra-large doner kebab with all the trimmings? Well, Irish duo Brame & Hamo certainly have. Ironically, "Kebab Dreams" is much tastier than your average late night takeaway, with eyes-closed Rhodes notes, hazy chords and sparkling synth motifs riding a bouncy and bumpy deep house groove. The sweetness continues on the slightly more driving "Cert City", where jazzy samples and a relentless bassline are expertly combined with restless, live-sounding house percussion. Finally, they up the tape hiss and Theo Parrish style jazz samples on "Retch Wretcheness", a swinging saunter through dusty deep house territory full of hooky stabs and fizzing cymbals.

Brame & Hamo kick things off with the twinkling pianos, soft focus vocal samples and jazz-flecked beats of "Triple Treat", before Nachtbraker pushes the acid bass up to 11 on the cosmic rumble of "Catch Up". Homework's "Pliester" is a warm and woozy delight full of blissful electronic pianos and US garage influenced chords, while Voyeur impresses with the bumpin', jazz-flecked deep house soul of "The Long Way Home". It's Local Talk regular Kyodai who steals the show, too, with the loopy, off-kilter shuffle of "Tleflicht".

Review: Hot new French label Happiness Therapy run by ascendant DJ/producer Crowd Control proudly presents a brilliant double header following up a great inauguration by CC himself and Popka. HT02 features Vancouverite Jesse Bru on the A side, with the late night dusty deepness of "Uncle Frank" (which ventures into hypnotic acid territory later on) followed by the emotive and bittersweet vibe of "Good Life" which is absolutely wonderful. ITWVA001 includes five tracks entirely produced by young and talented Italian artists, such as James Brucke on the deep and sensual 'The Solo Player', Samuele De Santis going for that Stateside vibe from the early '90s on 'Green Paradise', while Gugo & Funksonik provide ample mood music on the moody dub house excursion 'Houze On Gu' over on the flip. Review: Native Soul Recordings has been around a long old time in dance music terms and now it looks back over some of its finest works with this first in a new series of Best Of comps. Music writer Harold Heath is first up with 'Slipstream,' an effortless smooth late-night house cut with introspective chords and silky pads bringing real depth. The Candy Dealers get more lithe and elastic with the spraying bass and jumbled percussive house of 'Train Of Thought' and last of all, Asad Rizvi remixes Jevne's 'Moderize' with a funky little bassline and chord vamps that keep you on edge. A tasteful package of timeless house grooves.

Review: Munich's Public Possession keep on with their new wave Balearic aesthetic ever so nicely. This time by getting some Aussie larrikins on board. First up is Carpentaria aka Sydney's Tamas Jones and Paul Harmon. "Gadget Messiah" with its infectious bassline, creepy but catchy operatic vocals equally startling synth horns that somehow grow on you, a lot! Next is "Der Inder" with its epic analogue synth arpeggio and lush strings sounding rather reminiscent of an eighties film score. On the flip there's Hysteric, getting all Italo on us with its dark vibes and that gritty EBM style bassline on "Arabian 1" with as the title suggests: some exotic instrumentation floating on top of it all. The seductive vocals of "Arabian 2" and its intense strings workout is pretty killer too..

Review: The third edition in Ten Lovers' Coin series hears Marcello Cassanelli, Caruso and Helen McCormack fuse churnout disco, chicken pickin' guitar and Rhodes solos, in an extravaganza of fresh, sartorial dance music. Never pressing too hard, Cassenelli's 'Starlight' and 'Tropical Breeze' go easy on the master channel, with unhurried pan flutes, roiling strings and twizzling G-synths stuck loosely to a soft but firm electro-tropical backbeat. 'Dream Horizon' is a brilliant outerlude on which to close the side. On the flip, Caruso & Helen McCormack allude equally to the Manchester Street Soul scene of the late 80s with 'Have & Hold', whose razor-edge r&b vocals and low-slung progression lend the record a surprise twist. Their 'Love You More', meanwhile is lushness personified, before Caruso's 'Central' chugs magnficently towards the run out groove with oozing synths and glitterball glamour.

Hypernatural - "Stormfront" (Gerd Janson remix) (6:46)
Hypernatural - "Spirit Walk" (Knightlife remix) (6:36)
Review: Charlie Charlie's 'Save Us' is a track brimming with raw emotion, and Mondag's remix feels like a perfect counterpart, bringing a subtle touch of melancholy with its soft saxophone solo. The track maintains its weight, but Mondag's approach gives it a dream-like quality, coaxing out the depths of its aching beauty. Bella Boo's edit brings a noticeable shift, tightening the rhythms and infusing the track with a sharper energy, but it never loses the soul of the original. Gerd Janson, meanwhile, offers an ambient version that feels like an entirely different experience - less immediate, but no less absorbing. On the other side, Hypernatural's remixes expand on the dreamlike, almost otherworldly feeling of the originals. Knightlife's take on 'Spirit Walk' stretches the song's already fluid nature, making it feel weightless, while Gerd Janson's remix of 'Stormfront' adds a darker, more reflective mood.

First off is the dream team of Cid and Havoc & Lawn, whom together deliver a hilariously effective house version of America's 'A Horse With No Name'; this is shortly followed by Saturday Love, Kon and Furious's 'Come Out', a rejigged nu-disco samosa packed with some rare vocal spices; then there's 'Give It To Me' by Marco Lys and Ben Miller, a bass-driven bouncer unafraid of lasershot winddowns, injunctive vocals and risers; and finally, there's Set Mo's 'Could I Be', the anthem of the bunch, whose buildup and drop is alarming, affecting, cumulatively awe-striking.
