Things You Do For Love
Things You Do For Love (12" Nachpressung)
Cat: WB 007. Rel: 10 Jan 22
  1. Things You Do For Love (4:34)
  2. Things You Do For Love (Heartbeat mix) (2:44)
  3. Things You Do For Love (Mad Professor Crazy dubclubbing mix) (4:54)
  4. Things You Do For Love (Machine mix) (4:08)
Review: Second time around for Apiento's brilliant 'Things You Do For Love', a sunrise-ready chunk of slow house/Balearic soul fusion that's as dreamy and tactile as they come. It's certainly well worthy of the reissue treatment - copies of the 2019 seven-inch now change hands for significant amounts online - and this edition also boasts two new mixes. These include a masterclass in seductive, spaced-out, Balearic-minded ambient dub from Mad Professor (B1) and Apiento's own sparse, tough, house dub style 'Machine Mix'. Throw in both versions from the original release - including the ultra-dreamy, saucer-eyed 'Heartbeat Mix' - and you have an essential package.

Wondering (1-sided 12" + insert)
Cat: WB 008. Rel: 07 Oct 19
Deep House
  1. Wondering (7:15)
Review: In 1996, Dreamscape's Ed Marshall donned a new alias, Aplomb, and delivered the first fruits of his new project to New Age House Records. Only one track was ever released on a limited label promo, "Wondering". World Building's Ari Goldman, who previously put out a compilation of Marshall's work as Dreamscape, is a fan and has decided to rescue it from obscurity via this single-sided 12". The track itself is hard to accurately pigeonhole, combining as it does dense, carnival style drums, female scat vocals, warm bass, dreamy deep house chords and synthesizer flourishes reminiscent of early '80s jazz-funk. Either way, it's a sunny and groovy chunk of obscure house positivity that's well worth a place in your collection.

Neighborhood Watch Volume One
  1. NativeSun vs JamesBangura - "Demon Mode" (3:35)
  2. Sami - "Marty & Jack" (5:23)
  3. Juana - "It's Low" (6:08)
  4. DJ Technics - "Clair" (take Two) (4:05)
  5. Max D - "No Snare" (6:05)
  6. The Khan - "Part Of Me (Ode To DC)" (2:47)
Review: Following up releases by the likes of Mark Seven, Florist and Cygnus, Ari Goldman's Washington D.C-based World Building returns with this awesome varioust artist compilation. Neighborhood Watch Volume One features a wide selection of moods and grooves: NativeSun vs JamesBangura get stuck into some dark dubstep on 'Demon Mode' much like The Khan does later on the deeply meditative 'Part Of Me (Ode To DC), while Sami gets their swing on with the classic house of 'Marty & Jack', Juana's tunneling 'It's Low' gives you a dose of heroin house and over on the flip Max D gets deep down and dirty on 'No Snare'.
