Atom's Dance
Jungle Jazz
Review: Italian producer Tommaso Rebel, a regular on Legofunk, delivers a vibrant fusion of Afrobeat, jazz and club-ready grooves on this funk-infused 7". Side-A's 'Atom's Dance' is a slow-burning gem, blending jazzy percussion with deep Afro rhythms. A dynamic flute takes center stage, weaving through layers of upright bass and warm piano chords, creating an intoxicatingly smooth yet rhythmically rich atmosphere. On the other side, 'Jungle Jazz' shifts gears with an upbeat, electrifying energy. A lively saxophone leads the charge, riding a wave of syncopated piano riffs and house-inspired drum patterns. The track pulses with a hypnotic rhythm, effortlessly bridging jazz improvisation with club-driven momentum. Rebel's skillful blend of organic instrumentation and dancefloor sensibilities makes this release a well balanced and enjoyable record.

Feeling Blu

Feeling Blu (feat Sophiyah E)
Feeling Blu (dub version)
Review: Canada's Collective Rhythm Network label has always prioritised quality over quantity, frequently leaving large gaps between releases. This fine two-tracker from long-serving Detroiter Whodat (real name Terri McQueen) is only the imprint's fifth 12" since launching in 2018 - but, like its predecessors, it is genuinely exceptional. In its' original form (side A), 'Feelin' Blu' is a gorgeously dreamy, drowsy and heady slab of soft-focus beatdown soul in which Sophiyah E's immaculate lead vocals rise above whispers of beats, elongated Rodes electric piano chords and an ultra-deep bassline. It's the epitome of Motor City Soul. We suspect Kenny Dixon Jr approves. It comes backed by an even deeper, effects-laden dub that's also near perfect in its sound and execution.
