A Virgo On The Moon & Paolo Mosca - "Mattherhorn" (6:05)
Kebab Traume - "Nova Trance" (4:52)
Mario Liberti - "Treat Me Good" (5:59)
Matteo - "The Truth Was Out" (feat Lourene) (6:39)
Review: Muddy, dreamy and dubby new dance cuts from THREADS, who invite four of their mainstays to the fore with a dry and entraining take on trance. Kebab Traume (in English, 'Kebab Dream') wafts a mouth-watery cylinder of sonic meat under our noses with 'Nova Trance', which melds stabs, basses and kicks with all the certainty of a honey badger. Meanwhile, Mario Liberti's 'Treat Me Good' urges us to do just that via the mode sultry sampled vocals and funk bass whirls.

Alok & Ella Eyre & Kenny Dope - "Deep Down" (feat Never Dull - original extended mix) (6:59)
Review: This new 12" from High Fashion sure has the potential to become a popular hit on the more commercially minded dance floors out there. It's a mega-mash-up with ALOK, Never Dull, Kenny Dope featuring Ella Eyre and cult 90s vocalists Crystal Waters all featuring. The result is a nice deep house cut with classic neon chords and hooky vocal samples recognisable to all. There is an extended mix for more drawn our pleasures on the floor and the original version. They both make for fine intersections between house, pop and soul.

Forever Ravers (6:03)
Forever Ravers (Anna Raving In Space mix) (5:33)
Review: Last year Brazilian DJ/producer Ana Miranda joined Kompakt Extra following years spent building her reputation via fine releases on such labels as Novamute, Twin Turbo, Yoshitoshi and Terminal M. For her third release on the long-serving German label she's joined forces with another scene queen, the incomparable Miss Kittin. The pair has produced a raw, driving dancefloor beast that's bigger than Donald Trump's ego and infinitely more alluring. "Forever Ravers" is heavy, intense and forthright, with stylized vocal snippets and razor sharp electronic motifs surging above a thumping groove. Miranda offers a different take on the track on side B, opting for bleeping and panicked electronics and spacey bleep melodies.

I Wanna Know (8:18)
I Wanna Know (dub) (7:49)
Review: Those who've followed Alex Attias' career over the last two decades will tell you that he's always been capable of crafting the kind of jazzy, soulful, life-affirming fare more readily associated with UK broken beat producers. He's at it again on "I Wanna Know", a deliciously warm and sultry slab of dancefloor soul rich in samba-fired house beats, fluid piano lines (provided, we think, by Kid K), drowsy chords and a killer lead vocal from Georgia Anne Muldrow. Over on side B, Attias strips out most of Muldrow's vocal on a Dub Mix that rightly layers up the beats, emphasizes the track's jazzy horns and virtually bathes in the liquidity of its jazz-funk synths.

Brown Sugar (4:29)
Dance Monkey (3:35)
Review: Neo-soul chanteuse Bette Smith is an upcoming talent who lends her tones to the blistering blues guitar work of Kirk Flecther here. The pair take on a cover of The Rolling Stones' classic tune 'Brown Sugar' and do it with real gusto. The drums smash hard, the guitar riffs are big and angular and the vocals re delivered in sleazy fashion. The Tone's quirky pop dance hit 'Dance Monkey' then gets covered don the flip and turned into a psyched out bluesy guitar number with big vocals. It's a unique rework that makes this a collectible 7".

Review: "Blackout" was created by a collaboration between Black Mustang and the magical Kerrier District (Luke Vibert), Cornwall's answer to Metro Area. Kerrier Distract provided the chunky disco beats over which the Mustang stacked layers of Moog and tripped out dub vocals. This LoEB release with scare the hell out of your ears.

Review: It's a sizzling seven up for Moiss Music here as they draw together four different artists to offer up one cut each for this new various artists collection. Boogietraxx goes heavy on the filter vibes on 'S N T' which is French touch disco-house of the highest order. Kellit's 'Pryscoks Sockin Socks' is all about sultry sax lines and loose-limbed disco house beats while C Da Afro gets heads up with the streaming sunshine synths of 'Don't Be Quiet.' Take Over (7:22)
Take Over (Less Patient edit) (5:15)
Bounce & Pull Up (feat Evan Laflamme) (7:46)
Review: Having landed his debut album Bosq Y Orchestra De Madera on Ubiquity Records back in 2013, Bosq will be returning with his second long player on the Californian label later this year. Take Over is the second 12" laid down as a precursor of what Bosq has up his sleeve and the Boston-based Whisky Baron is certainly on good form. Known for his towering vocal contributions to Fela's Egypt 80, Benin-born / Nigerian-raised singer Kaleta once again lines a Bosq production in lead cut "Take Over", and it might just be their heaviest collaboration yet! The Less Patient edit adds a bit of dancefloor weight to the track. Flip for the dense, delay heavy afrobeat burner "Bounce And Pull Up" which features some devilish horns from Evan Laflamme.

Double Secret
Fuck The Down Low
Hobo Train
Review: Skylax treat our ears to the second dose of Terre Thaemlitz's musically brilliant schizophrenia in a matter of months. June's "Hush Now" was one of this year's more enduring deep house jackers and on this latest DJ Sprinkles Vs K.S.H.E 12" Thaemlitz doubles the quantity of tracks but retains the quality. "Down Home Kami-Sakunobe" eases you in with the odd but bewitching combination of violin strings, intermittent piano flourishes, overdubbed percussive shuffles and glacial breathing. Cavernous atmospheric abound on "Double Secret" which is dominated by bass notes of true warmth and the tingling interplay between soft piano and haunting vocals. "Fuck The Down Low" completes the proceedings on the A Side with a short but oh so sweet Moodymann esque bumper replete with a sample familiar to Beastie Boys fans. The real gold is reserved for the B Side with "Hobo Train", a raw percussive delight. You will be totally captivated from the early moment that the cavalcade of heavily compressed hi-hats take centre stage.

This time with a more eclectic approach than the previous volume, exploring more electronic landscapes with Domu's downtempo ambience song aptly titled 'Point Of Entry' and Jamal Moss's unmistakable sound on his opus 'Black Hands Sound 63' on the first side. AFTR - "Undercover" (5:59)
Review: It's coming home, it's coming home - house music is coming home! A second instalment of the Groove Access: series Chicago Is Home offers us five fresh tracks from the windy city landing in a glorious cavalcade of razor edged snares and hypnotic jack house. Ed Nine & Kid Enigma's 'Bandleaders' opens side one in spectacular fashion with spoken mantras lying deep in the mix, distinctive phasing arpeggios, poking keyboard riffs and ringing cymbals. JSquare's 'Get Wicked' kicks with even more power, tribal rhythms bouncing of bleepy melodies, before 'Move' by Geto Mark rounds off the side with the strutting, beautifully brutal 'Move', a proper 3AM peak time pleaser. Steve Noah's 'The Hater' opens side two, a wily acid line worming its way across a raw, stripped down backing before exploding into serious gnarliness when you least expect it. AFTR's 'Undercover' rounds things off with another knuckle duster of a tune, leaving no doubt that Chicago is still the place to be when it comes to house.

Kevin Griffiths - "Satori" (5:46)
Review: Tsuba's ten year anniversary - that's right, it has been that long already - has been marked with hit after hit from a wide selection of artists from across the house kingdom. In fact, for this 2nd instalment of the festivities, we have White Material frontman Galcher Lustwerk remixed by the inimitable Jimpster, with the latter putting a more starry-eyed mechanic onto the original; For Romeau complete the A-side with a vintage-sounding remix of "Pinball" by Williams. On the flip, Roy Comanchero drops the Chicago bass over a minimal sort of percussion groove on "Hypba". Kevin Griffiths adds a little acid to the jingly 707 beat of "Satori", and completes a stellar EP from the magnetic Tsuba.

It is studiously run by Italian Marco, who is also a deep-digging DJ himself, a part of the Balearic Gabba Soundsystem and also co-founder of much loved Berlin club night Buena Onda. The night's second compilation is coming soon but before that is this taster which gives you a great cross-section of the sounds to expect: leftfield disco, mature grooves, deep and slow acid workouts and plenty in between. Japanese master Calm really stands out here with his take on Gallo's 'Abysso.'

They link here with Patrick Gibin for an EP that brims with summer time soul, joyous keys and funky bass riffs that are impossibly sweet. This one once again showcases the talents on its roster with label head Ground kicking off with a beatdown meets trance sound on "Utau Narukoyuri'. After that slow burner come tribal percussive sounds from 'Arauma' (Kobato Dub), sunny cumbia on 'Something Sign' and a meandering Balearic journey from Akira Arasawa With KUN & FRANKY-CH that is brought to life with new age flute sounds, bird calls, jungle drips and folkloric strings. Review: REPRESS ALERT: Gravity Graffiti has been doing great things with its series of split 12"s already, but now the Italian label goes one better for its tenth release with this mighty double pack of heavy hitters. First up is the ever-untouchable Yoshinori Hayashi, who gets as straight up as he possibly could with the freaky house burner "Dissociative." Telephones is feeling particularly dubbed out and groovy on "Kalimbalimbo", while DB.Source and Riccardo Schiro take things strung out and textural on "Montevago". Dynamo Dreesen is in rave mode for the pepped up and delightfully weird "Reactivate", leaving the final side to Oyvind Morken & Kaman Leung's chugging "Tunnel Visjon" and the rubbery side swipes of Acidboychair's "The End (At Any Speed)".

Review: No digital, vinyl only. Save for these previews on Juno. Art Of Dark are one of just a handful of UK labels pushing 2-step garage in the best way they know how - 'keeping the tradition alive', if you will. Farty and strange as hell comes 'Hillyfields Warrior', referring to a lesser-known park in Hither Green known for its illegal parties and mystical properties. The A-side continues to be helmed up by proder JM Project, with 'Meltdown' serving harder and choppier flavours. Keo Lab handles the B and opts for nuskool electro and breakstep on 'Rich Cascade' and 'Swarm'.

Review: We're always stoked to hear a new 12" from K15. The London beat maker has plenty of tricks in his box, from lush deep house to jazzed-out synth music, collaborative projects that fuse the two and plenty more. Here the deep thinking producer layers up cosmic synth work with jostling broken beats and far-sighted pads that speak to Detroit. That's the case on the heady A-side 'Demo of Heart' at least, while things get more funk and energetic on 'Tomorrow's Promise,' a perfect coming together of London beats, sun-worshipping synths and jazz invention.

Review: A White Bear's Heaven... Is A Black Bear's Hell is something of a departure from the smooth, deep and undulating sound we've come to expect from Omar-S's FXHE label. It signals experienced producer Brian Kage's first outing for four years. While that release for Beretta Red paid tribute to atmospheric techno, this outing is far more inspired by late '80s Chicago house and acid. The standout is undoubtedly "Shut Your Eyes", a co-production with Omar-S that wraps James Garcia's soulful, heartfelt vocals around classic synth-strings, tactile stabs and pared-down, '80s style drum machine hits. He switches off the lights and signals more of a heads-down mood on the First Choice-sampling "It's Not Over" - a thrillingly tactile, synth-laden jacker - while "Bear Gonna Getcha" sounds like a warehouse anthem in waiting.

The keystone of this vision is an approach of full artistic autonomy in full front against the demons of the momentariness, reproduction and stagnation, which were ever present in these past 20 years. This endeavor intensified over the years leading to numerous releases on all types of medium. With the vinyl catalogue number 30 the big K is setting out ONE more TIME to settle the score presenting yet another wrenching collection of DANCE Variations. This time around, the German-Ghanaian band provides high-grade backing for guest vocalist Frank Karikari, son of legendary Highlife musician Ralph Karikari. "Keep On Doin' Whatcha' Doin'" was written and produced by Karim's other half Kent Harris and, like the original seven inch, appears here in two parts. Long-serving French artist and sometime Bass Agenda regular Franck Kartell definitely does, as he makes clear on his first EP for freshly minted "moody electro" stable LDI Records. Kartell does an excellent job setting his stall out on the title track, a faintly foreboding slab of mid-tempo intergalactic electro, before dipping the pace considerably on dark, slow-motion number 'Voight-Kampff'. If you're looking for bona-fide peak-time thrills, we'd recommend A-side 'If You Want Me', a subtly straightened and toughened-up re-arrangement of Barbara Roy and Ecstasy, Passion & Pain's 1981 disco anthem 'If You Want Me'. Kassian teases out some of the Italo-disco style elements audible on some of the early mixes of the boogie-era track, adding some twerkin' acid lines towards the end of the track. Over on the flip, 'So Nice' is a bouncy, shuffling, house-style tweak of a gorgeous disco bumper of unknown origin.

Review: After his debut release with remixes from Arpanet and Mr Oizo, Kavinsky is back! Killed in a car crash back in 1986, Kavinsky is now a zombie in need of revenge. This record, released on Record Makers, is the story of his first steps in the world of the living dead. Three powerful and original tracks and a Sebastian remix. A bloody good one too.

Review: NDATL continues with the return of Kayenne, Rain Fall Down originally produced by Chris Brann is the first single from Kayenne's forthcoming full length, produced by various Atlanta based producers, Kai Alce, Stefan Ringer, DJ Kemit, Salah Ananse & Chris Brann. This first offering bring forth Kayenne's sweet melody over atmospheric rhythms & pads over driving drums brought together on Anthony Nicholson's rewerk. Next an unexpected late night groover from Plastik Recordings, Marc Cotterell where his deep chords transport you deep into the dancefloor. This last mix comes from Groove Victim aka Jay Brown (whom we unfortunately lost late 2021) simple but elegantly effective very reminiscent of the early 90' MAW dubs! Once again NDATL blazes forward!

Review: Kaymany & Asestar hail from Rome, a city where many musicians spend most of their days producing sounds for the television industry and even shopping malls. That's part of the reason the country has such a reparation for great jazz-funk sounds and now adding to that cannon are Kaymany & Asestar. 'Effimera' is glossy and feel good disco with retro future chords, while 'Digressione' has a Bob James style energy to it with its high speed funky bass and incidental chords. 'Capao' closes in Latin fashion with manic keys and more plucked and funky bass slaps making you shake every limb.

One Night In Prague (6:32)
Review: It would be safe to say that Kayroy (real name Finian Langham) is on a roll. This is his third must-have EP of 2019 and his second outing on Whiskey Disco. It begins with "Rosella", a superb revision of Crown Heights Affair's "Say a Prayer" that strips out most of the vocals and layers up tasteful overdubs to give the track a more cosmic and dubbed-out feel. "You're The Reason Why" is a loopy but groovy rearrangement of a dewy-eyed laidback disco classic, while "Silk & Satin" is a riotous rework of a heavy disco-funk number rich in sharp, rising horn lines, screaming guitars, sweaty drums and toasty bass. Arguably best of all, though, is the fizzing, dubbed out Italo-disco-goes-poodle-perm-rock insanity of "One Night In Prague".

Review: Two years ago, Kayroy (real name Finnian Langham) seemed to be building up a head of steam thanks to two fine EPs of sample-heavy, house-friendly disco workouts on Whiskey Disco. Happily, we can confirm that he's in fine form on this delayed return to action. Opener 'Shark Infested' is typical of his style, with simmering samples from a lesser-known disco gem (strings, vocals and so on) being joined by gentle acid lines and rolling house beats. 'Brandy Beach' is a cheery, summery and tastefully beefed-up version of what sounds like a Brazilian jazz-funk gem from the late 1970s, while 'Starcrossed' sees him tool up and rearrange a spacey excursion from the camper end of the disco spectrum.

Let It Go (part 2) (2:03)
Review: Funk, soul and jazz-funk reissue specialists Dynamite Cuts are particularly good at offering up seven-inch singles featuring album tracks that have never previously appeared on "45". They're at it again here, delivering a killer seven-inch featuring the much-sampled two-part track that bookends K.C & The Sunshine Band's self-titled, 1975 sophomore LP. "Let It Go (Part 1)" is a low-down Miami funk treat featuring a hot-to-trot-mix of bustling drums, heavy percussion breaks, rousing vocals, fiery (and familiar) horn riffs and impassioned lead vocals. The slightly shorter "part two" mix is an even heavier, vocal-free take that deftly showcases the quality of the band's hip-shaking, rabble-rousing instrumentation.

Review: Clean-cut Scottish producer Kerr Slaven has been touted as a rising star for some time, though it's only since joining Toolroom in 2019 that he's come close to fulfilling his immense potential. 'Cold Light', his latest single for Mark Knight's much-loved imprint, has all the makings of a genuine crossover hit, with Leo Stannard's evocative, emotive vocals rising above an attractive blend of funk-fuelled house beats, rubbery electronic bass, dreamy chords and jaunty synth stabs. This accessible, radio-friendly blend is given a big room makeover on the accompanying 'Club Mix', a boisterous, sub-bass-heavy affair rich in jacking tribal drums and big builds, while the '6am Mix' re-casts the cut as a melancholic, soft-touch Balearic pop treat.

Review: Talented singer Keithus Dimits Selassie I has a deep emotion to the tone and message of his music. It is perfect for more spiritual dub sounds and that's the case here. His interpretation here rides nicely on the lazy rhythm below, with acoustic riffs dancing in mid air above puddles of echo. On the flip, Roberto Sanchez stepped up at Lone Ark studios to craft his own slow motion version that is a perfect partner for the a-side. This is a serious piece of 7" wax that packs a punch on many levels.

Review: This one was already getting plenty of support and many plays before it even came out. And it's easy to see why, because both tunes are brilliantly atmospheric house cuts that offer more than just a nice groove. 'Memory By Flyway' (original Tribute mix) has a grainy, lived-in feel, with warm chords smeared over the bumping beats and a spoken word vocal adding extra depth. The Justin Spiritual Navigation mix reworks the drums into a more funky, skipping framework but keeps the vocal musings and adds some spiritual keys for a proper heady trip.

This second musical manifestation is the latest in a unique series of thoughts, sensations and sounds occurring from his mind, translated by machines. On the A side we have some serious hi-tech jazz in the form of 'Lifeforms' strongly taking its cues from the Underground Resistance style of Detroit techno. Over on the flip, the interstellar journey into hi-tech soul continues with the evocative 'Orbit' where a rich tapestry of visceral pads play centre stage, underpinned by syncopated 313 style rhythms. Review: You might well have caught wind of Kenny Dope's exhaustive Wild Style Breakbeats box set which came out in 2014. It found the New York legend offering up six 7"s carrying iconic breaks used in seminal hip hop movie Wild Style. Well now you can cop something from that highly sought after box and enjoy it for yourself as the first disc gets its own individual release. On the A side we've got the low slung bass and dusty groove of 'Down By Law', and on the flip it's 'Subway Beat' with a sweet low funk groove. Both should evoke strong memories for anyone versed in the roots of hip hop culture, but regardless they're just kick ass beats you could have a lot fun juggling and blending into other people's music.

Review: If we had to put together a list of the world's greatest dusty disco re-editors, Al Kent would come somewhere close to the top of the list. Further proof of the Glaswegian's scalpel-wielding genius can be found on this epic two-tracker for GAMM. We're particularly enjoying flipside "Erotic Queen", a 12-minute-plus revision of a near unknown disco track that boasts densely layered, sweat-soaked percussion, razor sharp strings, hammered-out Clavinet lines and, as the track speeds towards its near orgasmic conclusion, spacey synths and all manner of alternating instrument solos. Massive! A-side "Fist Of Fury" is tidy, too, with Kent working his magic on a particularly spacey, deeper disco jam that has Moog solos for days.

His Mental Ballast EP comes on the label he is a firm part of, DNO Records, and is complete with his signature off-kilter rhythms. Opener 'Ignornants' has shimmering oscillations and deep, dark dub. Plenty of subtle samples flesh out the eerie groove including a clip of Russian maestro E. Ponasenkov. 'Analysis' is another gem, this time with Berlin artist Yoofee with plenty of purple flourishes. There is serious wobble to 'Tigers' that keeps you on edge and 'Acid' is a real spin out to close.

Review: A top value for money opportunity here, as Moiss Music deliver the latest in their sweet and sticky Jam series of various artist 12" line ups, bringing you no less than six bubbling, vivacious disco triumphs from six artists. Khemir's 'Disco Bandit' kicks off proceedings, a production that sounds like it was made by a band of around 45 musicians, a proper cavalcade of strings, brass, brazen disco thump and beautifully bold vocals. Wurzelholz's 'Prince' goes for a bit more economy but with a slinky funk bassline like that - not to mention the occasional exclamation from the purple overlord himself - it's equally devastating in dancefloor terms. Among the other highlights, 'Golden' by I Gemin has the feel of a lost Daft Punk flip tune and Cosmocomics' 'Glamorous Garcon', boasting 70s-style synth bubbles that are as cute as they are retro. Tasty as ever.

Here she pops up on an established label - Ralph Lawson's 2020 Vision to be exact - for the very first time. First, she whips up a frenzy courtesy of the fuzzy and aggressive riffs of techno roller 'Night Flight', complete with creepy chords and foreboding motifs. She then delivers raw, heavy, industrial-fired electro on 'Ore', whilst warped dubstep and electro are brilliantly mixed on 'Nocturnal'. To round things up nicely, 'Drifting' is a partial vocal number built around a wobbling dubstep bass with punchy electro drums and twinkling pianos.

Review: First issued on Soul Kitchen way back in 1971, the two tracks featured on this single are shrouded in mystery. Both were recorded live - hence the grittiness of the sound - and feature what sound like preachers-turned-singers Solomon and Moses doing their thing over righteous funk and soul backing tracks which were rumoured to have been provided by the Ebony Rhythm Band. A-side 'He's Forever (Amen)' is a largely beat-free soul-jazz soundscape, onto which tweaked bible verses are sung and spoken. It's unusual but excellent all told. Flipside 'He's Coming' is the pick for dancefloor plays. It's a righteous, impassioned rendition of a gospel soul classic in the raucous Midwest funk style. Testify!

It comes after the label has served up plenty of reissues of the man known as Noel Wiliam's tackle but this one might be the best. It's from his album Deep Reggae Roots and is nice tropical excursion with steamy hits, wooden percussive sounds and funky bass over a low-slung groove and chanting vocals. This one is backed with a special disco mix by Lexx that reworks the tune for more lively moments.

Do You Wanna Dance? (Felix Dickinson Discomix) (9:08)
Review: Emotional Rescue returns with the third (and final?) King Sporty & The Ex Tras releases with the first ever-official reissue of the highly sought after cult boogie jam Do You Wanna Dance? Coming as remastered vocal and instrumental, plus again featuring a special Discomix, this time courtesy of acid-disco slayer Felix Dickinson.

Appearing shortly after the success of the band's only album, Extra Funky, Do You Wanna Dance? pointed the way forward, moving further from Disco and closer to the rising electro-boogie sounds that were sweeping the dance floors. The confident up / jump electro drum programming, slap bass and trademark Sporty guitar chops are propelled by a monster swamp inducing synth arpeggio that sings the funk electric, while hip-hop-shout-outs ride the rhythm. If the vocals are too much for some, then the original Instrumental (dub) is also included for those just wanting that infectious groove.

As many will recall, Do You Wanna Dance? featured on Felix's "Originals" compilation for Claremont 56 back in 2011, so when the King Sporty reissue project was coming together there was only one name to be asked for the Discomix. With a long history of DJing and music production, as well the man behind the Recycled Records, Fools Gold, Urban Myth and Bastedos labels, as well many, many releases on the long running and aptly titled Cynic Recordings, his remix arrives on point.

Teasingly drawn out, his mix switches back / forth between versions, the interplay between vocals, guitar, bass and electro-glide synths hypnotically building, with Dickinson's deftly dubbing tripping it out, making the title's question irrelevant, as mind and feet involuntarily move.
