Dancing (With Me)
Dancing (With Me) (1-sided 12")
Cat: TOOL 825. Rel: 16 Oct 19
Deep House
  1. Dancing (With Me) (5:16)
Review: Originally a white label promo, Mark Knight and Co. are finally letting this one out of the bag. A seriously classy and infectious record from the new UK duo Cashio, "Dancing (With Me)" is a record that's had everyone talking, including some of the worlds top DJs like Annie Mac and Danny Howard to name but a few. A proper, disco-fied funky house anthem (with infectious vocals) that harks back to the glory days of the late '90s popularised by Def Mix, Subliminal and Soulfuric et al - is this a comeback? With the Toolroom crew heading to ADE at the end of the month, we're sure this one will bang the party there, until the later part of 2019 and beyond!

Zulu EP (12")

Minimal/Tech House
  1. Zulu (7:50)
  2. Charger (7:51)
Review: Toolroom welcomes exciting new prospect Max Chapman to their flagship label. He burst onto the scene three years ago with great releases on Elrow, Snatch, Viva and Lost. He teams up with up and coming maestro George Smeddles here for two quality jams on this great EP. "Zulu" on the A side is the kind of rolling and funky tech house that just reeks of White Isle hedonism and will appeal to fans of Lost, Material Series or Knee Deep in Sound. On the flip "Charger" will absolutely blow the doors off any venue with its pounding groove and wall of bass which you could imagine Marco Carola or Paco Osuna playing at peak time in the main room.

  1. Lonely (5:40)
  2. The Truth (6:41)
Review: Annie Mac favourite and all-round UK house hero Friend Within makes his debut on Toolroom with the summertime vibe of "Lonely". Think Ibiza, sunshine, terraces and smiling, contented faces - this funky and soulful vocal house stormer is guaranteed to become yet another Toolroom anthem. On the flip, the golden era of '90s house carries on with the sultry disco loops of "The Truth" calling to mind the lo-slung percussion driven tools of the kind DJ Sneak or Phil Weeks.

Review: In recent years, Eddie Halliwell has cast off the shackles of hard house and embraced a softer sound, whilst still retaining a keen ear for the anthemic builds and drops associated with trance and hard dance. It's this electro house-goes-trance sound that's explored here, on his first full-length mix for main room dance specialists Toolroom. It's as energetic, uplifting and smile-inducing as you'd expect, offering a mix of darker moments, strobe-bright builds and a smattering of his own re-edits. With some Toolroom exclusives thrown in for good measure, it should prove an enticing proposition for fans of main room dance.

Minimal/Tech House
  1. The One (5:56)
  2. Shout (5:44)
Review: Illyus & Barrientos are the rising Scottish tech-house duo that are staples of top labels DFTD and Glasgow Underground, and who had a breakthrough year in 2018. They kick start this year with a future anthem on the label they now call home: Toolroom. There is a couple of worthy new bangers here: from the exhilarating funky house explosion of "The One" and its infectious disco loops, to the fierce tech-house stomp of "Shout" named after the pitched-up diva vocals throughout - that will no doubt whip the crowd into a frenzy. This in combination with a tough rolling, bass-driven groove that is aimed squarely at peak time dancefloors in the main room and it's a hit prediction right here! Expect to be hearing it a lot in 2019 for sure.

  3. Groovitational Waves (5:21)
Review: Opolopo has been serving up floor filing blends of disco, funk and soul for two decades on plenty of well regarded labels. Toolroom now invites him to serve up three brand new jams that show off his pedigree. "Sickla Side Push Shuffle" is a funk-licked, string-laced soul searcher with plenty of poolside appeal and "Aqua Lung" is a big disco roller from the Philly school. Mellifluous closer "Groovitational Waves" has some slick keys, tight bass licks and loose and authentic drums that make it feel like an OG wedge of disco gold.

  1. It's Alright (6:53)
  2. It's Alright (Adesse Versions remix) (6:10)
  3. It's Alright (DJ Spen & Reelsoul remix) (7:35)
Review: The Second Summer of Love in 1988 saw house music change British youth culture forever - and Duane Pelt aka Sterling Void's "It's Alright" was an anthem from the period that truly encapsulated this magical time. Originally released on Chicago's DJ International in 1987, its life-affirming vocal performance by Paris Brightledge is still pognant to this day, backed by Void's powerfully evocative arrangement. To celebrate the 30 years since, Toolroom is proud to present a monumental remix package, alongside the fully remastered original. Baltimore legend DJ Spen & Reelsoul rework the track into a sublime expression in late night deepness and Manchester veteran Kevin Gorman dons the Adesse Versions alias again for a dusty and soulful rendition.

Let Me Love You
Cat: TOOL 790. Rel: 28 Aug 19
Funky/Club House
  1. Let Me Love You (6:22)
  2. Let Me Love You (club mix) (5:27)
Review: Having first appeared on Toolroom way back in 2013, Richard Dinsdale AKA Weiss is one of the label's longest serving artists. He's also one of the most prolific, with this strong outing being his 16th single for Mark Knight's imprint. "Let Me Love You", a bouncy contemporary cover of Kariya's 1988 house classic, has all the makings of a massive hit. The A-side original version combines classic elements - bold piano riffs and synths that subtly doff a cap to Kariya's version - with heavy electro-house bass and bumpin' beats. Over on side B, Dinsdale pumps it up further on a jacking piano-house take that's sweatier than a sauna full of gyrating, leather-clad bikers.
