It features a heavyweight crew of electro mainstays, first of which are The Advent & Zein Ferreira. Their 'Defend Your Plane' is a turbo powered cosmic assault with skewed synths and high speed drums. Assembler Code's 'Line Of Sight' doesn't let up, powering on through sheet metal snares and juddering drum programming and then man like Carl Finlow layers in prickly melodies, dark sci-fi energy and booming bass. Review: While it's difficult to second-guess what Placid will select for each volume of his We're Going Deep label's compilation-style EPs, you can guarantee that it will be timeless-sounding, exquisitely produced, and most likely have some link to deep house, electro, acid or sci-fi techno. Review: Those with a deep knowledge of electro and techno will be salivating at the prospect of More Than A Machine: Part 1, an EP that boasts cuts from such legends of the scene as Sterac Electronics, The Advent and Christian Smith. All deliver the goods, of course, as does rising star Client 03, whose EP-opening 'Regression Container' brilliantly flips between shimmering, deep space ambient and warming, tactile electro dreaminess. Those looking for more rugged and robust club fare should check Sterac Electronics 'Reinstated', with its' out-there lead lines and machine-gun bass, and the sleazy, up-tempo futurism of the Adveny and Zein Ferreira's 'Seven'. Christian Smith's deep, Kraftwerk-influenced 'Pressure Drop' rounds off a predictably strong EP.

'Blackbird' is a big tech house cut that is defined by its scintillating synth work which dances a busy dance over metallic, synthetic drum sounds. The vocals are the fiery finish that will make this a real club anthem. It also comes as an instrumental while the Ian Pooley Pooley main remix brings a little more funk and nuance to his well swung house drums. Review: Ten years since his first drops on Body Parts et al, Kirik can easily be considered a mainstay of the Eastern European minimal scene, and his Uzvar label has kicked back into action in defiance of the pressure foisted upon his Ukrainian homeland. The latest drop on the label finds him teaming up with Zone+, offering up some charmingly beautiful cuts that place musicality in front of functionality. Don't be mistaken, these tracks all groove and shuffle with the floor in mind, but the shimmering synths on 'Well Well Well' and the hushed pads and keys on 'New Way' all speak on an emotional level, which can only bring magic results when deployed the right way in the dance.

'Exotic Passage' coasts along serenely with gently slapped bongos and warm electric piano, definitely a weapon to have in one's warm up arsenal. As functional and utilitarian as the robotized music heard therein is the name 'Split #1', which indeed shows that this is an EP flaunting two tracks by each artist; Z@P's tracks are groovier, funkier and more alkaline, opting for the sounding like the inner bloopings of a robotic mechsuit. Review: Construct Re-Form chief Zadig knows how to make rib-rattling techno. Here on his own label he offers a second Lost Tape EP packed with rusted synths and future techno dystopia. 'Tape 4' has broken drum loops and sustained chords locking you in rhythm and 'Tape 2 022' then has urgent drums cantering like a Derby-wining horse and unsettling synth loops. 'Tape 5' slows down to a lumpy, undulating house dub and 'Tape 6' gets back to frazzled synths, dusty lo-fi murk, and pulsing sonar synths over a rickety beat. 'Catharsis' is a metallic sounding banger that thrives on driving the tension to an all-time pitch - all the making of a classic techno record. 'Rotator' adds a bit more of a tribal sound to the looped style killer. The title track goes full tribal reminding us of classic Oliver Ho material. Zefzeed takes the reins of the first sonic statement with four tracks of sophisticated and deep house and tech. Review: In recent times the Zenker Brothers seem to have spent more time running their inspired Ilian Tape imprint than they have producing music. While we'd hardly criticize their choices - Ilian Tape goes from strength to strength - it's certainly good to have them back. The Munich-based siblings begin their first outing of 2020 with the melodious, far-sighted electro shuffle of "Shaketown", before wrapping mangled, mind-altering electronic riffs around a crunchy techno groove of "Chi Boost". "Bengel Mode" sees the siblings successfully combine alien-sounding riffs with a denser techno rhythm track, while closing cut "Outside" is a sparkling trip into hypnotic, slow-release ambient techno territory with nary a kick-drum in sight.

Review: Favourably compared to The Ramones during their early tenure, yet never managing to reach the same critical or commercial heights, The Zeros were one of the true first wave pioneers of punk, hailing from their sleepy San Diego city of Chula Vista, California. Originally released in 1978 as their second single following on from the previous year's 'Wimp' b/w 'Don't Push Me Around', the iconic 'Beat Your Heart Out' is easily the band's most vital contribution to their own legacy, thanks in no small part to being popularised by The Muffs' rendition in the 90s. Recreated from the OG pressing with 'Wild Weekend' on the flip, 'Beat Your Heart Out' is also infamously known for being the track the band opted to repeatedly play over and over again for the duration of a now legendry San Francisco performance. No other cuts, just that one single eight times in a row. Now, that's what we call punk.

Review: Zeta Reticula is the electro alias of Slovenian techno titan Umek and for more than 20 years now he has been serving up sounds from the vanguard. After a fine outing back in June he quickly follows it up with another adventurous 12", this time on Eudemonia. His style is cinematic and as heavy on the synth details and lush atmospheres as it is the rhythms. Review: Albert Zhirnov's back on the Clergy label for a second time following his debut last year. Once again he showcases a love of fad-free, straight up techno pumpers for the main room. There is a sweep-you-off-your-feet urgency to 'Switchback' with its hurried kicks and restless synth loops all demanding you move. 'Distortion Forge' is a high-octane banger too, this time with rusty metal peeling off the bulky beats. The energy levels ramp up through another high-functioning tool in 'Wooden Lessons' and the frictionless forces of 'Stoker.' Basements won't know what's hit them.

Review: As the Grand Ancestor label rolls towards its 20th resale, the 17th comes from Zion Train in the form of a limited and hand-numbered 180 gram 12" featuring a hefty pair of dubs. The A-side features 'Oya' (20th Century dub) - a seriously heavyweight cut with skewed contemporary synth and hooky vocals buried deep in the mix. 'Shango' (20th Century dub) is a more melodic affair with whimsical leads and a hint of old school reggae next to plenty of modern reverb techniques and hissing less that take off like spacecraft.

Review: Since making his debut six years ago, Seb Zito has made quite an impression. Here, he christens new label Seven Dials following acclaimed outings on Fuse London, Rawax and, most recently, Hund Records. As the title suggests, much of the EP is inspired by dancefloor styles of the 1990s, though thankfully not the extensively mined hardcore and jungle sounds that have inspired rather a lot of producers of late. "95-96" is a swinging and bass-heavy affair, seemingly inspired by the darker end of U.S garage (think Tenaglia and David Morales' Red Zone dubs), while "Bubbling" offers a lighter and snappier take on the same core sound. Also worth a listen is Chris Greschwinder's re-make of "95-96", which adds a little two-step swing and suitably bombastic sub-bass.

Review: Dutch acid techno collective Zodiak Commune has been bringing the heat to the Netherlands club scene for over two decades now, adding fuel to the fire with their latest EP release '303 Fifth Pattern'. Released as both a ten-track digital compilation and a four-track EP series, it comes as a raucous addition to their oeuvre, each track describing a hallucino-hellish factory floor. Fragments of melody show up on 'Radiance' and 'Acid Factory', but they come second to the emphasis on giant steely atmospherics. It makes sense, because the Zodiak crew has been performing for years, hosting massive techno raves in any space they can get their hands on.

Review: 40 years ago this rare afro-disco track made big waves. It's the work of Cameroonina disco talent Zogo and now gets a big reissue along with two remixes from the much loved Gerd Janson and Bellaire. The original is pure joy, with trilling guitars and a funky bass riff that does plenty of work up and down the scales. The percussion is just as lively, while the vocal finishes it off nicely. Bellaire flips it into a more contemporary bit of punchy disco house and Janson sits somewhere in between, with plenty of the upbeat energy of the original but some boosted modern flourishes to help it soar.

Review: Winthorpe Electronics signs up Dublin musician and producer Daniel Jacobson aka ZOiD for his debut on the label. What a fine one it is too with a real creative freedom in the melodies and rich sense design bringing each of these curveball cuts to life. '2-Oh-Techno' is a loose mix of bumpy drums and smeared chords, zippy leads and pixelated melodies that shine bright. 'Winthrope Acrid 2C (2-5s On The 303)' is then a double-time and wonky workout with a collage of synth textures all intertwining. 'Sunrise Acid' is another unusual but effective techno cut with a happy heart and 'Megajazz Acidhops' is a final collision of synths and rhythms that leaves you wanting more.

Review: Elevated Senses is the new series from the prolific Berlin-based producer Todo Kunst aka Zug (aka Gruvaldo among many others), this time exploring such concepts with the third eye, premonitions, telepathy and other arcane subjects. On the A-side you've got the deep groove of 'Tercer Ojo' followed by the late night affair of 'Premonition' - both on a housey tip. Review: 18 months after a fantastic launch instalment courtesy of the mighty Danny Krivit, Mr Bongo's Edits series returns. This time round, it's Manchester legend and 'E Soul Cultura' specialist Luke Una at the controls. On the A-side he handles 'Love Games', an obscure slice of mid-80s South African disco by Thandi Zulu and The Young Five, cannily focusing on the warm, gently funky groove and the track's spacey synth solos. Over on the flip, the Electric Chair co-founder takes on Lionel Pillay's percussion, synth-and-organ classic 'Plum', stretching out the most dancefloor friendly sections before unleashing waves of solos and the original's saucer-eyed, sun-splashed instrumentation.

Review: Exarde clocks up its 15th outing here with another bit of brilliantly direct to dancefloor techno tackle from Zuul. There is a sense of celestial mystery to his opener 'The Devil's Wanted In Here' in the chrome-plated melodies while the drums are pure electro-funk. 'Phazer Quest' ups the ante with some prickly acid spraying about the face of the silvery metallic drums and sustained chords and moon the flip comes the rasping bass and slapping drum funk of 'Talkatron' while a more circuitous route is taken by the searching synths of closer 'Nieur Acid.'

Review: This is well known and much-loved ambient album amongst those who follow the genre closely, and after various vinyl formats before now, it finally arrives on CD courtesy of Past Inside the Present. The hugely prolific zake - who often releases several albums a year - and 36 really go deep on this one. It is a quietly epic and certainly adventurous journey into outer space where echoing sonic tones and drifting sound effects all melt into one another as electronic melodies arrive and disappear to soothing effect. There is an almost classical architecture to these grandiose tracks which makes it all the more of an absorbing and beautiful listen.

Review: The prolific ambient producer Zake (Zach Frizzell) has his latest release out for out us to enjoy. B4 Plus 3 features seven compositions in all. Many of them are brilliantly done drone pieces that are expressive in beautifully done tones that rise and slide. The heavenly 'Braken' as the opener for example. The layered tones creatively mask the depth of the drones to the point of a spontaneous feel that is almost changed by anything as slight as a light wind. 'Betrayal' present bells that ring out from the meandering depth while 'Blight' is deep and foreboding tot he point of being machinelike. 'Bane' is one of the most moving pieces in drone we have heard in a long, long time. Review: Somewhat surprisingly, Beliefsystems marks the first musical collaboration between Past Inside The Present co-founders Zake and Isaac Helsen. It's undeniably an album worth waiting for though, with the three meditative, enveloping tracks offering a perfect blend of the Zake's droning, densely layered "drone-scapes" and Helsen's glistening and fluid processed guitar sounds. For proof, check 19-minute opener 'Northern Cross', where starry, slow-burn electronics, distant guitars and yearning, unfurling melodies gently ebb and flow across the sound space, and the becalmed, field recording-sporting haziness of 'Knowledge Rooms Parts I & II'.
