Yossi Amoyal Presents Fluere IV
A1 People - "Do It" (Metamatics remix)
Kosmogonik - "Circuitry"
Silicon Scally - "Relay"
Matt Chester - "November Pathways"
CiM - "Recursive"
Review: Since Zip and Villalobos made it one of their coveted deep digs to be heard pealing out of a thousand after hours sessions, the Metamatics remix of A1 People has been a teasingly out of reach dream grab for many a minimal electro head. Now Yossi Amoyal has done the good deed of getting the track remastered and repressed as part of his Fluere series toasting 15 years of Sushitech. As well as that masterclass of elegant machine funk, there's also Kosmogonik's mind-bendingly brilliant 'Circuitry', Silicon Scally's body-popping electro-noir 'Relay' and Matt Chester's melancholic 'November Pathways' to keep your up-all-night marathon sets peppered with spangled surprises.

The Advent & Zein Ferreira - "Strangeform" (5:22)
Carl Finlow - "Optogenetic" (7:17)
Detroit's Filthiest - "Werewolf" (5:21)
Modulator AKA Freddie Fresh - "Promars" (5:27)
Review: EPM20 Ep2 goes off on an electro tangent here. On this one, we have veteran producer Cisco Ferreira aka The Advent teaming up with his son Zein on the ferocious electro dystopia of "Strangeform" and as if that was not enough, another legend, the one and only Carl Finlow appears next with the abstract, cybernetic beats of "Optogenetic". Over on the flip, we have someone by the name of Detroit's Filthiest (quite an accolade!) who is in fact Motor City stalwart Julian Shamou (Motor City Electro Company) known for his work as 313 Bass Mechanics or Digitek, and longstanding hero of the Midwest Freddie Fresh should need no introduction; his contribution here under the Modulator alias is the deep mind IDM journey "Promars".

Modern House Quintet - "Dioskouron" (8:10)
Review: Syncrophone presents the very first vinyl release from Aleqs Notal's label, Industrial Light. Notal here teams up with longtime friend and fellow producer Modern House Quintet, and together they lay down four pure dancefloor heaters for the contemporary disco-goer. Opening with two functional acid house bustlers, we then get deeper with things with the latter's nocturnal shuffle 'Nadrezacalenis', before ending on a return to utility with 'Disokouron' as well as an inversion of the A1, 'Message From The P', in an upped Chicago house style.

The Asphodells - "We Are The Axis" (Hardway Bros Scrutton St Via Crucifix Lane remix) (6:34)
Autarkic - "Sleepover" (6:14)
Ruf Dug - "Manctalo Banger" (5:31)
Mehmet Aslan - "Shizowaves" (5:57)
Review: Inspired by the late, great Andrew Weatherall - whom they represented for many years - the Spun Out DJ agency has decided to release a swathe of compilation style EPs showcasing the work of some of their artists. Fittingly, this first volume in the series begins with something Weatherall-related: a deliciously trippy and psychedelic remix of a track by the Ashpodells (AKA Lord Sabre himself and Timothy J Fairplay) from long-time DJ buddy Sean Johnston as Hardway Brothers. It's followed by another raw, razor-sharp chunk of chugging electronic wonkiness from Aukratic ('Sleepover'), a gorgeously colourful Italo-disco bubbler from Ruf Dug ('Manctalo Banger') and a low-slung, post-punk-inspired dancefloor workout from James Savage and Optimo's Johnnie Wilkes and Naum Gabo.

Space Culture Vol 1
Cat: BLIQ 06. Rel: 14 Jan 13
Audio Atlas - "Finland"
Pietro Tangianu - "Frabaer"
Matti Turunen - "Nocturne"
Review: For their sixth release, deep house doyens Bliq present something a little different in the form of Space Culture Volume 1, the label's first compilation 12". The A-side is given over to the dub techno of Audio Atlas, whose track "Finland" is a suitably chilly excursion into mid-tempo 4/4, its steady pulse and icy chords seemingly inspired by a wintry Scandinavian forest at dusk. On the flip, Pietro Tangianu's "Frabaer" is a similarly laid back production, but one that thaws things slightly with its warmer, housier chords, and swung rhythm though its subs are as deep as the A-side. Finally, Matti Turunen's "Nocturne" offers something entirely different, a sparse electro track whose minimal 808 rhythms and thick bass are contrasted with melodic pads and brittle diamond-like textures.

Mud Deep & Sans Qui - "Mesonyx" (5:21)
Review: Coeur De Glace on DKO Records (DKO 34) delivers four fantastic electro tracks, each with unique influences and directions. Side-1 kicks off with Binary Digit's 'U Want Dis,' an exuberant, high-energy track that pays homage to old-school rave with its lively vocal samples. Fasme's 'Morning' follows, blending smooth electro with soft keys and a whimsical AFX melody for a perfect combination. Side-2 features GGGG's 'La Cueillette,' a feel-good, fun and melodic electro tune. The EP concludes with Mud Deep & Sans-Qui's 'Mesonyx,' offering IDM goodness reminiscent of Rephlex, Squarepusher, and AFX. Coeur De Glaceis a vibrant and diverse collection, sure to delight fans of electro and techno.

Subground 3000 - "Sound Migration" (Lee Trax Garage remix) (6:38)
Jim Rivers - "Cosmos" (8:31)
Melatron & Ancient Artefact - "I Get My Kicks" (6:53)
Review: The latest compilation album from COD3 QR is, as always, focused on eclecticism, open-mindedness, divergence and non-conformity, featuring the usual wide range of electronic music, all handpicked by Laurent Garnier and Scan X. The vinyl edition of this very latest edition of the compilation series - which was embarked upon in not long after the longstanding but mysterious label was revealed to be the fruits of the labours of this legendary duo, who had until then ran it incognito - comes as a condensed version of the digital, on which a terse seven tracks from the likes of Calibre, Seroplexx, Costello, Marcelus, Subground 3000, Lee Trax, Jim Rivers, Melatron and Ancient Artifact all appear. Though the label has set a high expectation with their admonition against "all expectations and all prejudices", they actually do extremely well to fulfil that aim. Most contributions here - from the steppy, sloppy 'Sump Dub to the just-plain-monstrous 'I Get My Kicks' - tend towards on the uncategorisable and unpigeonholeable, at least in terms of overtly boxed-in genre norms.

Review: The Spanish Hypnotic Collective label attempts to capture its take on the Detroit Legacy with what looks like a new series of various artists' EP. There is plenty of Motor City soul in the gorgeous synths of Cignol's muted acid and deep house opener 'Distance' which is a soothing and reverential groove, but then its pure party from Barce, Alex Martin offers up 313 style tech and three further tunes on the flip explore blistering electro with high-speed funk and cosmic intent. Mission accomplished and we're already looking forward to the next one.

Review: Furthur Electronix's first two Furthur Journeys Into compilations tune plenty of heads and shift plenty of copies. The third one keeps the quality levels high with more explorations around the periphery of underground electronics. Chris Coco opens with a soothing synth sound before Jake Slazenger brings crystalline synths and abstract modulations to the mid-tempo '168B.' There is more pace and twisted acid energy to Global Goon's untitled contribution and then old school jungle comes to the fore on the super stylish and atmospheric Gavin Masih cut. Monika Subrtova's 'Alata' is a serene and widescreen ambient synthscape that brings things to a suitably poignant close.

Marburg - "XXVIII" (drone variant)
Review: Ekman, DRVG CVLTRE, Cute Heels and Marburg all feature on Club Funny Horse, a killer 12" sized compilation from the Gooiland Elektro label. Taking the New Beat sounds of 1980s Belgian nightclubs as their starting point, the four producers veer off in their own distinct paths and the results are thrilling. Berlin-based Columbian producer Cute Heels is first up with "Silence Complot" which essentially sounds like a proto-Comeme production, all raw drums, cheap synth lines and a corrugated arpeggio that you can almost taste the rust off. Vincent Koreman turns in one of his darkest, trippiest productions yet under the DRVG CVLTVRE on "Year Zero" with the track taking a post-apocalyptic turn midway through. The severely under-rated Ekman takes it to the basement with the viscous "2 To The 64th Minus 1" whilst Marburg ends the release on a more esoteric note with the quietly menacing "XXVIII (Drone Variant)"

Review: When it comes to retro-futurist, analogue-rich gems inspired by turn-of-the-'90s electronic music, there's no more reliable outlet than Tone Dropout. The label's latest drop - their tenth multi-artist extravagana - is once again packed with cuts that sound like they could have been made in 1990 or '91. Boss man Dawl kicks things off with a cracking fusion of punchy electro and bleep & bass ('Into Andromeda'), before Escape Earth deliver a dash of acid-flecked breakbeat hardcore ('Impact Event') and Kiddmisha explores acid-electro pastures on 'Retrodance'. The body popping fun continues apace on side B opener 'Evolution 1', a punchy electro club cut from The He Men - before Marino draws things to a close via the rumbling bass, skittish breakbeats and moody chords of 'Rave Alarm'.

Review: Rotterdam's DJ Overdose inaugurates new Budapest label Dalmata Daniel with some dark and twisted Drexciyan/Ectomorphian electro nodes. He gets straight down to business on the thumping speaker attack that is "Path To Wrath". There's that dark electro sound so reminiscent of The Bunker heard on "That's Right" complete with jacking vocals. Fellow Hungarian S Olbricht gets on board for a remix of "Path To Wrath" which is some seriously sub aquatic 4/4 electro that works rather well. You'd be forgiven for thinking that "05 Poly 800 Loop" is a locked groove, it's not! But it certainly is a killer DJ tool in the vein of classic Aux 88 Detroit electro. Final track "B(eh)anger (12z remix)" is the kind of gothic electro that people like Visonia and Beta Evers would be in awe of.

Review: DJ Glow's long running TRUST label returns with the closing installment of its TRUST XV trilogy of releases which once again canvasses the finest names currently making electro music. Closing contributions come from The Exaltics, Plant43, Adapta, and Epy X Micromega and this is a must have 12" for any fans of the genre. Solar One man The Exaltics is first up, laying down some dank sonic dystopia in the shape of "Flexible Horizons" which offers a nice contrast the purist electro styles of "Infected Biome" by Plant43. There's a nice crunchy feel to Adapta's bass heavy contribution "Black Orpheus", whilst "Halcyon Days" from Epy X Micromega ends a fine record on a contemplative note.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: The quality of the Cong Burn releases shows no signs of slowing as they reach their fourth volume, rounding off a sterling year for the label. Russian producer Flaty makes an appearance here with the metallic, motorik electro of "Clearences" before Lack slows things down with the clanky funk of "Multiplier". Chekov has a more full bodied techno sound to impart, using spacious sound design to create a rich and immersive modernist jam, while Martinou completes the set with a subtle, shuddering and shimmering effort that dips below the radar of dancefloor convention to achieve a more subliminal effect.

Review: This 12" delivers a second serving of sauce from the Sur stable, whose admirable mission statement includes fostering links between the scenes in Berlin and South America. Just like the label's debut release, it's a multi-artist affair, with Manuk leading the charge. He offers up two cuts: the intelligent techno style acid lines, bustling electronics and snappy drum machine rhythms of "Space Mini Cab", and the Detroit electro-meets-UK-garage-via-Chicago-acid heaviness of "Another Beer, Bukoswki?" Elsewhere, Bruno Di Paulo drops some glistening, off-kilter deep house/electro fusion ("In Ur Machine"), and Formas goes all deep, woozy and dreamy via the horizontal electro vibes of "M6".

For the foreseeable future, they'll be 'releasing audio recordings painstakingly designed to protect your mind and body from government control.' Fair enough then. Features Furious Frank with the deep space transmission of "Victoria Park", the always on-point Dan White - who dons the Rings Of Saturn alias again for the dubby and minimalist stepper "Skywatch Dub" and Mic Mills with "HAARP" but it's all about Francis Inferno Orchestra's deep balearic rendition on the flip that's absolutely terrific.

Review: Flight Mode Records' fifth release offers a riveting exploration of futuristic techno landscapes with four distinct tracks from formidable artists. Innuendo's 'Reise Ins Zentrum Der Zeit' kicks off the first side with pulsating rhythms and a progressive build, evoking a journey through time with its driving energy. Following suit, Five Ten's 'Control' harks back to early 90s techno with a robust beat and bleepy melodies, giving listeners with its nostalgic charm. On Side-2, Mono-Tone presents 'Night Spirits,' an enthralling piece featuring a heavy acid line enveloped in ethereal echoes, accompanied by a subtle electro undertone that adds depth to the track's atmosphere. Closing the release, SPAC's 'My Galaxy Is Not Yours' injects upbeat energy with trance elements, inviting listeners on a cosmic voyage filled with pulsating rhythms and hypnotic melodies. Flight Mode Records' commitment to pushing the boundaries of techno is evident in this diverse selection of tracks, shows the label's dedication to delivering forward-thinking electronic music.

Artmechanical boss Junq is up first, with the gloriously squelchy acid electro stylings of "303 Days On Kepla-47c" which stands up well against the more unhinged Lowlands approach of Syncom Data's "UnphAzD" (Strings Attached mix). Review: Cryovac Recordings exists because craftsmen and artists work together to make it so. Cryovac enlists individuals that are true to their identity and expression. These conscripts are survivors that adapt and continue through techno's ever changing terrain. Cryovac works to expose the depth, creativity, and diversity of the Detroit underground. We believe that vinyl is the best format to inscribe our effort. It is our intent to leave a physical record of our time before we can no longer speak. Brian Kage moves quietly letting his personal projects, various labels and collaborations be his voice. His production is marked by a big and lumbering sound pushed by a strong crispy percussion. His clear headed response to techno electro is a conditioning of a Detroit instinct. Kage's drive to achieve his vision means escape from the box and into his own world. >>>>Andy Garcia and Mike Kretsch have a shared method of recording and editing that works naturally together. It is a mindset of minimally based 4/4 progression amid simple synth hooks and heroic rises. They build a free form improv jam and insert it into a mathematical arrangement. It is this duality of extremes in which their tracks find identity. The Garcia/Kretsch team endeavor to tell a story one melody at a time.

Killer Loop - "Someone" (Juan Atkins remix)
Terry Brookes - "Breaking Cycles"
MSL - "Limits Of Likeness"
Review: The Sushitech label turned 15 years old in 2020 and to celebrate this milestone Yossi Amoyal has put together the Fluere compilation across four discs, plus this extended fifth part, titled Fatum. Juan Atkins' remix of 'Someone' by Killer Loop takes up residence on the A-side of this three tracker, all swirling, warm pads and spiralling filters, the percussion almost leaning towards disco with its syncopated handclaps, although the overall effect is as shiny and futuristic as you would expect from this Detroit legend. Flip it over for Terry Brookes' 'Breaking Cycles', a calm spoken word narration providing a meditational mantra to accompany the chugging house foundations, full of gentle tease. 'Limits of Likeness' by MSL completes the package with restless electro machinations and shifting clouds of synth floating across its horizon. Sheer bliss all round.

Sleep D & Samo DJ - "No Mans Land" (5:55)
Mascaras X Powder - "RealGold" (6:09)
DJ City - "Torreyson Drive" (5:02)
Review: Notorious Discodromo helmed session CockTail D'Amore celebrate their 10th birthday with a compilation that highlights many different aspects of the much loved and musically adventurous Berlin party. In the main room, you can expect the energy to be big and imposing, which Jonathan Kusuma clearly understands as he throws down the big bad thrust of "Energi Hall". Sleep D and Samo DJ bring something of a trancey mood to "No Mans Land" - all heavy drama and a strong sense of melody. Mascaras X Powder is a potent combination that builds up a kind of tribal intensity peppered with wild cosmic flourishes. DJ City's "Torreyson Drive" finishes things off with a startling jacker loaded with big synth lines and whipcrack drums.

Lego Train Crashes (4:36)
Elek F (3:54)
Take A Chance (6:32)
Rum & Black (4:45)
Review: When not collaborating with former Factory Floorer Dominic Butler as the charmingly titled Green Gums or Bronze Teeth respectively, Richard Smith finds a fitting home for his solo L/F/D/M work on Alessio Natalizia aka Not Waving's Ecstatic imprint. There's "Lego Train Crashes" on the A side: this is tough and noisy arpeggio driven techno done properly, placing him up there with masters of the art like Silent Servant and Frak. "Elek F" is straight up Drexciyan electro-funk, but truly one of the better tributes we've heard to the aesthetic in a while. On the flip there's "Take A Chance" and just like its namesake you could really. It's the most restrained effort on here but still pretty crunchy: good to use mid-set perhaps? Finally "Rum & Black" is the kind of crusty and overdriven lo-fi nastiness which has landed him releases for Glaswegian noise merchants Clan Destine Traxx recently.

LFT - "Flare"
Marc Ash - "Beirut Calling"
Morah - "Cold Water In My Glass"
Helena Hauff - "Sloe"
Review: Helena Hauff's mighty Return To Disorder is back with a various artists 12" packing phasers set to slay. LFT is as evil as it gets on "Flare," dropping the kind of sleazy, Bunker-ready, acid inflected electro that darkroom dreams are made of. Marc Ash has an edgier tone, maximising the distortion but also capitalising on uneasy space in the mix on grimy workout "Beirut Calling." Morah sends things in an airy direction on "Cold Water," building up layers of noise but maintaing a strange air of optimism. Hauff herself lands the B2 slot with a curious belter that channels the spirit of 90s MIDI game soundtracks amidst searing arepggios and a bloated kick.

London Modular Alliance - "Crosstalk" (4:25)
Upwellings - "Soft Shadows" (5:40)
Mike Dehnert - "Tokio" (6:01)
Obsolete Music Technology - "Comb Freq" (7:12)
Review: With its festival, International Series, DJ Directory and Soundsystem: Dimensions has become a leading name in the underground. In only a mere six years of existence thus far, that's quite impressive we must say! Now, they extend their influence with the start of a new label: Dimensions Recordings. It launches with a 12 track compilation across three separate discs. Where the first disc delved into the exotic and explored world music and soulful vibes, this edition features some cutting edge electronics from legends and new heroes of the scene alike. Electro heroes London Modular Alliance appear with their best impression of purist Detroit electro on "Crosstalk" while the A side also features the glacial dub techno tones of Upwellings' "Soft Shadows". On the flip, Fachwerk boss Mike Dehnert gives us the very Robert Hood sounding "Tokio"and Windy City legend Steven Tang aka Obsolete Music Technology appears with something harder than you'd usually expect from the man: on the gnarly analogue techno of "Comb Freq".

Rock The Beat (4:34)
Nonstop Hefe (6:44)
Review: Klasse Wrecks label heads Mr. Ho and Luca Lozano release this EP as part of their recent collaboration with Obey Clothing. The accomplished duo say that the music was designed to reflect the capsule collection's theme of free-spirited exploration and unrestrained creativity. Each track offers a unique flavour, it is fair to say, as the producers blend their extensive knowledge into 90s deep techno sound 'Free Tekno', the more rugged and warehouse-ready sound of 'Bluesday' and 'Rock The Beat', which rides on more funky drums, with old school stabs and wild percussive flair. 'Nonstop Hefe' shuts down with a more reserved, stripped-back sound.

Hottpretty - "Make Me Yours" (6:12)
Mad Again - "The Night" (6:11)
Review: Killowat Hour is a collection of 90s-inspired gems that seamlessly blend new and old influences. On Side-1, LP Rhythm's 'Want Your Love' kicks things off with a nostalgic nod to prog and euro house, delivering a distinctly 90s vibe. Aida's title track, 'Killowat Hour,' ventures into futuristic techno territory, incorporating elements of new beat for a modern twist. Mance's 'Cross Reference' follows with bouncy techno rhythms, smooth melodies, and trance influences that keep the energy flowing. Other highlights include Hottpretty's 'Make Me Yours,' which takes listeners on a trancey, heady journey through early 90s techno, offering a vibrant and energetic experience. Mad Again's 'The Night' closes the collection with deep euro house vibes, adding a layer of sophistication to the nostalgic set. This compilation is idea for those who like deep house and those who appreciate the balance of classic and contemporary sounds.

Turbulence (6:37)
Review: It's now been two decades since Gallic producer Joan-Mael Peneau first donned the Maelstrom alias for the very first time. He's been in particularly fine form of late, offering up essential EPs on Cultivated Electronics, Central Processing Unit and Private Persons. Here he makes his debut on Craigie Knowes' hard-wired techno and electro offshoot C-Know-Evil with a formidably tough two-track offering. A-side "Spasm" is a riotous fusion of metallic percussion hits, high-octane electro drums, doom-laden acid lines and bass so raw and intense it was probably made in Scotland from girders. He opts for an even more doom-laden techno sound on fizzing flipside "Turbulence", wrapping increasingly intense electronic motifs around a surging rhythm track.

Review: Strap in and prepare for a wild ride on this one as Maelstrom links with DeFeKT to serve up some searing electro/techno fusions that are designed to shake your bones loose. "Heat Wave" is a real slap around the face with its corrugated bassline and coruscated percussion. It's a high impact, high speed track while "Three Channels" is all twitching synth paranoia for peak time freak outs. Flipside "Naoned" piles on the pressured with warped bass and busted hits soaked in industrial textures before the most brash and confrontational cut of the lot - "Dublin" - closes things out in real face-melting fashion.

Locked Club & RLGN - "Kill Me" (5:16)
Review: Electro monarchs Maelstrom, Locked Club and RLGN return to EP-making with a four-track array of acid bangers, happily working together on a split record to celebrate the pan-European electro scene. Their offering is unequal in quantity (2 Maelstrom and 3 Locked Club tunes) but is resolutely equal in heat; 'LA Nuit Est A Toi' is Maelstrom's standout, bleepy and suffocating in its generative, janky fright. Locked Club and RLGN follow up, 'Kill Me' being the best and most suicidally pushy techno track to soundtrack our nightmares.
