Review: Some V/As are dubious in their length, seeming to span both EP and mini-compilation length in equal measure, but not this one, which definitely seems to know what it's about. Moiss Music are no stranger to this format, here presenting their second vinyl release 'Watermelon Jam' after the first EP-length four tracker, 'Strawberry Jam'. Nu-disco, funk and house is the name of the game once again, and the tone is set by C Da Afro's 'That Funky Horn' via sample-filtering soul and raucous trumpets. The vocal cuts on this record are among its highlights; Disco Endeavours' 'So High' carries Brandy-esque chirps along a funking house backdrop, while the best of the bunch - 'Feelin's Mutual' by Pookie Knights - channels Carmen or Sylvester in its syrupy refrains and jet-set arps. Even a samba house bit closes it off - a swell all-rounder.

Review: Rhythm N Vibe treats us to four different and equally brilliant garage cuts here from four different and equally brilliant artists. Marc Cotterell opens up with the slinky and dusty drums of '96 Is Back' powered by a rasping bassline. Jason Ward then brings some fresh 90s sounds with a neon baseline and diva vocals on 'The Meaning' while J Erazo keeps it deep and paired back on the sublime 'The Pulse' which is a real late night warmer. Paul French then layers up nice fresh and bumping drum funk on his lovely number 'Jump' (unreleased dub). There is lots to love here on a very useful EP.

Review: Hit makes of the 20th and 21st Century don't come much bigger or more accomplished than French electronic innovators Daft Punk and irresistible hook-writing machine Pharrell Williams. When they got together to make music it was always going to give rise to monster hits and so it proved. Whoever you are, 'Get Lucky' cannot fail to get you singing along and swinging those hips. The Chic-style bass riffs, the smooth and catchy vocal from Williams and the effortless groove are all timeless. That one is backed with 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' another Daft Punk classic from their earlier period but that is no less potent today.

Review: As if you needed to be told, Cruise Music likes to keep the grooves smooth and sunny, and here they come with volume four. Leading the charge on this VA 12", Angelo Ferreri gets into a proper funky house mode with the snappy, subtly pumping 'You Can Do', while Mark Funk and Danny Cruz have fun with some Latin piano chops and a catchy vocal. Patrick Wayne and DJ Threejay aren't holding back on the samples as they whip up a surefire party starter with the weekend in mind - 'Saturday Vibes' is going to get all manner of dancefloors peaking hard. Super Drug finishes the record off with 'Jump', which leans in on a snappy dabke string hook over a perfect house lick.

Review: Joe Smooth's 'Promised Land' is one of house music's most vital foundational tracks if you ask us. Review: The Toolroom Records crew return from the annual Miami Winter Music Conference with bleary eyes, a stinking hangover and a head full of party regrets. But, as always, it was all worth it, with two sampler 12"s released this week to remind us mortals how much fun they had. This sampler contains the distinctive house stylings of Mark Knight, who drops an original cut ("Yalta Groove") and a remix (of Tensnake's ubiquitous "Coma Cat"). You'll also find ATFC's excellent "Tropicana" and "Filtered" by Pete Griffiths and Ant Brooks, rounding off a package so indebted to the WWC that it all but strolls up wearing a "I'm In Miami Bitch!"shirt and hands you a cocktail.

Review: The superb Cruise crew reassembles here for a ninth volume of Cruise Music Vinyl Jams. This one goes straight for the dancefloor in the form of a massive disco collab 'Dancer' with its sustained string synths, falsetto soul vocal and rousing disco drum work. Lebaron James duo then tap into a similarly silky and lush sounds with pure string lops and soulful house sounds. 'Dance Symbol' keeps the feel-good and singalong party vies alive and Jonk & Spook close out with 'Foo Funkers' which serves up some old school vibes. Once again another hugely handy EP of classy party-starters.

Review: Here comes Samosa with another hot serving of disco edits to get you in a spin. Paul Older opens proceedings with "Daboom", a low slung heater with dizzying cosmic synths and robot vocals to make you funk. In the hands of MB Edits, "Heart & Soul" is a deep down and sleazy number with bass to die for. Things dip into more lo-fi and rough edged territory on the soul train classic from P.cossu and Dirtyelements & Drunkdrivers then link to great effect on "Watch Is Gone" to close out on high speed, superbly slick vocal number.
