Review: Sonet's second Various Artists affair is another exploration of the deep and dark end of the minimal and tech house spectrum. Denis Andreev kicks off with a weird and wonderful exploration of hypnotic rhythms overlaid with detuned chamber music sounds and wonky strings. It's brilliantly creepy and perfect for the afters. Gruia's 'La Izvoare' then operate sin a more airy and heady space with deft synth modulations over slinky drums and snaking bass. Last of all comes the heaviest and most bumping cut of the lot from Mortalyf. 'Triple' has super smooth drum loops overlaid with futuristic drones and pepper with squelchy synth textures.

Review: Get your stomping boots on for this new pink 12" from the Revival crew out of New York. Bodeler and Manu Desrets link up for some heavy, straight-up tech that lands hard but with funk. 'Impact' makes just that with its crisp snare hats and thudding kicks all underpinned by a loopy bassline. Some trips out synths break out like fireworks at the midpoint before the tough, stiff, brilliant beats return. Review: Kulture Galerie has got off to a superb start with a release that got the attention of big names such as Laurent Garnier, Midland and Vladimir Ivkovic. The pressure is on, in that case, to follow that up with a second release that makes just as much impact and the label passes the test with flying colours with a various artists' collection featuring some big names. Chief amongst them are Detroit don John Beltran with his scintillating hi-tek soul workout 'Canarias', and Bohm with the densely woven synth layers and dusty drum programming over the gorgeous 'Tactical Options!' Review: The Spanish Hypnotic Collective label attempts to capture its take on the Detroit Legacy with what looks like a new series of various artists' EP. There is plenty of Motor City soul in the gorgeous synths of Cignol's muted acid and deep house opener 'Distance' which is a soothing and reverential groove, but then its pure party from Barce, Alex Martin offers up 313 style tech and three further tunes on the flip explore blistering electro with high-speed funk and cosmic intent. Alex Dima has certainly earned his stripes as a name to get you checking the record, and his opening track 'Twisted' offers the mysterious synth touches and boxy drum machines beats we've come to expect, while Luca Piermattei lays down some seriously satisfying trance-minded melodic lines to loosen the crowd up good and proper. Review: Following great releases on Dansu Discs, Carpet & Snares and Timeisnow, Italian DJ and producer Davide Piras aka DJ Chupacabra returns this week on the second part of Innsbruck-based label Mont Lake's five-year celebrations. His track on side A 'Growler' is a dusty and swing-fueled deep house jam that is as much off-kilter as it is absolutely infectious. Over on the flip, it's over to Mias Void - better known as Matthias Vogt - the veteran German producer who delivers another offbeat cut on the darkly emotive hi-tech soul of 'We Used To Be Detroit' receiving a remix by Berlin's Iron Curtis up next, injecting it with some mad breakbeats.

Review: With acid sounds once again being all the rage, Running Back has decided to launch a new series featuring previously unreleased, TB-303-heavy cuts. The versatility of the machine - which, after all, was initially designed to create basslines - comes to the fore across the EP, from the throbbing, acid bass-propelled techno-jack of DVS1's 'Lower Wacker Drive' and the low-tempo early morning creepiness of I:Cube's 'Folie Noire', to the excitable acid house funkiness of 'Go Kart' by Marko East and Jordi Chu's, and the colourful dreaminess of 'Meet Chu In My Dreams'. Review: Last year, Mother Tongue Records released Madre Lingua, an album of all-star collaborations between broken beat and deep house musicians and producers helmed by Verona-based Brit Patrick Gibin. This 12" updates two of the tracks from the set, with Gibin once again to the fore. On side A, he joins forces with long-time friend and studio buddy Kaidi Tatham to remix EDB and Gary Superfly's 'Pressure'. Mark Knight's label has mastered the art of maximal sounds and this eighth volume of the Tooroom Sampler series is another one that will do plenty of damage. Review: Last year's superb Pura Lempuyang album has been pulled apart and served up on a couple of separate 12"s and this is the second one. It comes on limited turquoise vinyl and offers four cuts of stylish deep dub and techno. Fletcher's 'It's A Virtue' goes first with taught, twanging bass and grubby basslines then Mike Schommer's 'Kingmaker' offers liquid dub funk with watery pads and hissing static. This fifth transmission is another doozy that collects four different artists who all operate on the spaced out end of the electronic house and minimal spectrum. The Former Landlords kick off with breezy and balmy 90s tech house style sounds on 'Council Pop' then Session 4000 go 'Off' with plenty of sci-fi pads and clipped, kinetic drum programming as well as some playful vocal samples. This new one on We're Going Deep - which has a label sticker that reminds us of Chicago house classic 'Real For Love' - opens with the dubby house drive of 'Going Deep' before sinking into a more warm, humid and cavernous dub house groove on 'Dub Setting'. Review: Tunisian imprint Danzha made an impressive debut with the first volume of this series but then went rather quiet. Now, more than two years later, it is finally back with a second volume. Maieutics II is another various artists affair offering up plenty of new names. Denis Kaznacheev's 'The Banach Tarski Paradox' is a dubby minimal marcher with alien life forms weaving in and out in the dead of night. Matt Star's 'Elephant Chair' then gets more trippy with its wonky motifs and daubs of synth. On the flip, Root's 'Palomino' is deep, tight, clipped and frictionless tech and then the machines take over for the futuristic soundscape of Amin Ravelle's 'Vaila.' Review: Aterral Limited has taken things slowly to start with but that's fine because the quality of the label's first few releases has remained high. Carlo is behind this one and opens up the EP with 'Hungover', a tune that features Black Loops, who has previously released his own EP on the label. It's lithe, funky deep house with silky synth work and classic drums. 'Lelazo' (feat Emanuele Barilli) carries on down the same path but this time has a darker bassline and more garage tinged skip in the grooves. On the flip side things slow down to a sunset sound on 'Maison' (feat Hauke Freer) and 'Poops' Feat O is a tight, well swung bumper with jazzy keys. Robust and emotive house music from front to back, then.

Review: Almost two years have passed since M-High made his debut via the wonderfully warming, melodic and timeless-sounding 'Blue Trip EP' on DJ Steaw's House Puff imprint. It's perhaps fitting that his return to action comes via Rutilance Recordings, a label Steaw co-runs with friend-in-music Guunter. The Utrecht-based producer starts solidly with '12 OC Riddim', a dubby chunk of bass-heavy deep house goodness that boasts serious sub weight and pleasingly skippy drums, before opting for a much more spacey-sounding, tech-tinged sound on the similarly bass-heavy 'Leaving Time'. 'Lost In Translation' is a chunkier slab of deep house/dub house fusion full of echoing electronic drum hits and dreamy pads, while Paolo Rocco's remix of '12 OC Riddim' is an intricately programmed, Motor City-influenced chunk of sci-fi deep house excellence.

Macarie brings us three new tracks with a remix from Algorhythmic founder and one half of Dubsons, Vlad Arapasu. Dipping into atmospheric synths frequently, Macarie once again focuses on the listening atmosphere in a project that would feel like surround sound even in mono. The title track is an absolute winner, a broody minimal tech-house magnum opus that is sure to become a hot favourite in international DJ sets, with the following track 'Nuttertools' living up to its cheeky title - calling upon a late 90s videogame soundfont to create a midtempo clash of drums, chiptune and bouncing synths. The UK-based duo lay down four convincingly retro breakbeat bits n' bobs for Homegrown here, channeling everything from Liquid to jungle techno and hardcore while often reverting to a steadier 4x4 oeuvre. After two head-turning tunes on Groove Access last May, he now makes a solo debut on the Midway Hustle label that confirmed what we already thought: he's got skill. These five tunes show his range with opener 'Everyday Of My Life' being an early evening deep house roller with soulful vocals dusty production. 'Rain Dance' is a more gritty wall-beater while 'Terror' brings late night acid jack that is primed and ready to destroy any warehouse. kings get deep on the flip with our favourite, the misty late night burner that is 'Those Eyes', then the booming kicks and smeared cosmic chords of 'Y'All Feel That'. Review: Venetian club and label Caposile are back in action with their fifth release of sleek and sophisticated minimal tech house following on from their excellent two-part The Sound Of Garden compilation series. This time around they're presenting the joint efforts of Maggio and Vitess, who pour considerable flair into their particular strain of 4/4 dancefloor delights. There's a strong melodic, synth-rich thread running through all these tracks, at times teetering towards the trance tech-house movement but retaining a little more house-spirited funk with some redolent disco influences on top. With a variety of keys to suit any emotional needs your set may have, this is another sure shot from one of the prime labels operating out of Venice.

The shifty, twisty A-siders 'Phaethon' and 'Gamma Gazette' draw on all manner of stylistic influences, from chiming bells, deep BoC-esque pads, and speed-garagey lo-fi-isms. The B-side gets wackier with it, working in calculator bloops, acid buzz-outs and whispery whoops for an overall cheekier affair than the A.

Review: Man Power is a hard to categorise artist who is hell-bent on staying independent and doing things his own way. The Geordie powerhouse runs a couple of his own labels but here finds himself on Echocentric. From cosmic disco to dancefloor tech and plenty in between, Man Power has done it all yet he still manages to find new ground once again here with four cuts of brilliantly original deep house sounds that call on a whole new world of references, mostly from outer space and rave days gone by. 'Jigsaw Thinking' is bright in its melodic makeup, 'What A Puny Plan' has a far-sighted astral gaze and 'Big Sue Wonderland' is an electrifying mix of fizzing synths and singing leads that tingle every sense in your body.

Review: If you're reading this then you will know that Instinct is one of the UK's powerhouse garage labels. Run by Burnski aka James Burnham it deals in serious tackle for rude boys and nasty girls. The drums hit hard, the reversed bassline burn goose old school cool and there gun finger salutes come thick and fast throughout this EP from Mance. 'Checkpoint' opens with the dusty drum shuffles and bulbous bass, then 'The Going Is Rough' is a little more soulful and sweet with its rolling basslines and silky pads. 'Beat 93' closes down with a seriously OG garage sound that takes you back to the mid-90s.

Review: How cheeky do you want it? The Hedzup crew have been transmitting crafty-as-hell minimal house from Paris to the world for many a year now, and they're not letting up in their quest to inject some freaky fun into the club. This latest drop is another split from label main men Mancini and Wlad, leading in with the former's 'Cure Hater' which bounces into ear shot with an irrepressible groove and plenty of wriggling noises snaking around the mix. Nu Zau then steps up with a remix which tips the ingredients into a tougher, 90s-styled beatdown without losing any of that heads down energy you expect from a Hedzup release. Wlad brings a shimmering sophistication to the chords on 'Lucky Star' without losing that naughty rhythm section, giving Floog plenty to work with for a remix which heads further into techy territory.

Review: Acid Cuts is a label based in Athens, Greece, that was founded in 2016 and has since released several records by Melatonin Man, Wata Igarashi, Kovyazin D, Drvg Cvltvre, and JTC among others. Its latest comes from Craig Stainton aka Mantra, who follows up his excellent Into Motion LP on the label with another swift release which features two strong tracks. On the first side, you've got the slinky and hypnotic late night 303 jack of 'First Born', while over on the flip 'Stand Together' is a good old fashioned acid house stomper that's perfect for those heads down moments.

Review: Contemporary oddball dance pushers Exarde have been responsible for breaking many new artists of late, their latest being Mar.C, who professes a vampiric, gothic edge to his latest productions. Allegedly, Mar.C is part of a unique cabal of revellers who can see what others can't, with the liner notes of this EP mentioning "the dancing vampires you often see at parties"; of course, the artist is from Transylvania. Whether you hear vampirism in this collection of tracks or not, 'Tranceformative' is nonetheless a curious set of tunes, each of which get progressively weirder, culminating in the spine-tingling closing remix from P O.

Review: The Det 313 label is kicking off the new year with a bang and dropping a pair of brilliant new EPs on the same day in late January. This one is a reissue of the esteemed Gary Martin's 'Pimping People In High Places' on 10". It's the Woodword Ave alternative mix that kicks off and is a rough and ready percussive techno looper with hefty basslines underlapping and propping up the floor. 'The Medusa Touch' is a more wily and synth laced-late night jaunt with mystic energy and acid details that make it a deep and dramatic cut with real dynamism.

Review: For a long time Gary Martin was referred to as an "unsung hero" of Detroit techno, but with the DET 313 label, run with Yossi Amoyal, he's finally cemented a fearsome reputation as one of the Motor City's finest. With such reputations come the exchange of the proverbial "silly money" for the more hard to find recordings, thus the existence of this double 12" which collects eight of Martin's efforts from the mid to late 90s into one package available for a slightly more sensible exchange of currency. Among the highlights are the Latin-enhanced beats of 'Manhattan', two mixes of the sublime 'In Rythem' complete with a gospel preacher in full flow and a seven minute extended remaster of 'I'll Be Back I Promise' from Yossi Amoyal. It's no surprise to see Martin's work picked up and played by the likes of Ben Klock, given his unique take on rhythm, but there's plenty of soulfulness going on here as well.

Review: Tooney Lunes are back with more of their characterful underground cuts, this time from Looney Tunes's Marvin the Martian, an alien race character who brings the occult funk to these grooves. 'Track 1' is all slapping drum funk and crisp hits, then 'Track 2' spins out on molten acid gurgles and another snappy tech house groove. 'Track 3' is a brilliant mix of classic r&b samples with a chugging bassline and splashy electro-tech drums. Last of all is 'Track 4,' another begging mix of r&b vocals and dark garage tech, the squelchy acid lines appearing once more to make for something both soulful yet edgy.

Review: Irish man Matador has become a new school minimal techno champion with his own label Rukus part of the vanguard. Here he makes a move across the street to Damian Lazarus's Crosstown Rebels. He kicks off with 'My Yellow Coat' which is a brilliantly atmospheric cut with rolling drums and indie vocals that come over like a confessional. It's intimate and tender and perfect for late nights in a back room. On the flip is a remix from New York's techno terminator Levon Vincent who flips it into something bulky and raw, with scratch claps and grainy kicks all powering through a late-night urban landscape.
