I Don't Know What It Is But Keep That Light Shining On Me (Keith Lawrence Refix version 1) (4:26)
I Don't Know What It Is But Keep That Light Shining On Me (Keith Lawrence Refix version 2) (4:32)
Review: Keith Lawrence is a DJ and producer from Brixton in South London with plenty of credentials, and here he serves up a pair of refixes of 'I Don't Know What It Is But Keep That Light Shining On Me', a reggae jam with an edge. The first one is laden with hooky guitar riffs and has soaring call-and-response vocals expanding the sound up top. The second is more raw and a little stripped back with a focus on the timeless rhythms and sounds. Two tunes that demand to be played loud and with bass - obviously - pushed to the max.

Do It To Me Baby
Cat: RF 450. Rel: 18 Feb 25
Lloyd & The Groovers - "Do It To Me Baby" (2:17)
Yvonne Harrison - "Take My Hand" (2:02)
Review: This double A-side is a classic release from 1967 on the Caltone label. The tracks showcase the richly and newly emerging rocksteady sounds of the era with the uncredited Lynn Taitt and The Jets providing the dynamic backing on Lloyd & The Groovers's 'Do It To Me Baby.' It's a buttery smooth vocal harmony with swaggering drums and bass combos and nice plucked guitars. On the flip the lo-fi and breezy 'Take My Hand' provides a deeper, more emotive groove with a whimsical edge.

Review: Less Than Jake's Pezcore LP from 1995 gets reissued here in its official "Forever" variant to celebrate the album's 30th anniversary. Pezcore remains a cornerstone of ska-punk and one of the Florida band's best works. It consists of Chris DeMakes on guitars and vocals, bass from Roger Lima, Buddy Schaub on trombone, Peter "JR" Wasilewski on saxophone and Matt Yonker on drums and is a fulsome exploration that features two covers of the TV theme songs for Jeffersons and Laverne and Shirley. This anniversary edition ensures the legacy of this important album continues to resonate while reading new ears of the energy and charm of Less Than Jake's early sound.

Review: Germany is not usually associated with reggae - unless we have missed something - but several of the country's finest musicians came together to form The Lock Downers. They have dropped plenty of useful digital singles in there last few years and here they all get collated onto one new album that fuses myriad reggae styles. Dr Ring Ding is the man who assembled this crew and he features on the wonderful cover of 'Billie Jean' while plenty of other superb reggae versions of the classics take in 'You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)' and 'Basket Case' amongst others.

Review: After the passing of reggae icons Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, South Africa's Lucky Dube rose to prominence as one of the world's most celebrated reggae artists and was known for his powerful stance against apartheid and electrifying global performances. Prisoner is often considered his greatest work and it now gets a special 60th anniversary edition reissue. Featuring socially-driven tracks like 'War and Crime' and 'Prisoner' alongside uplifting songs such as 'Jah Live' and 'Remember Me' they all showcase his unique vocal style. This special 60th Anniversary Edition LP includes original South African artwork, two previously unreleased bonus tracks, a lyric insert and rare photos of the legendary Lucky Dube.

Review: Working in partnership with Light in the Attic and curated by Grammy-nominated producer, DJ and journalist Kevin Howes this wonderful new collection chronicles a vital musical migration: in late-1960s Toronto, Caribbean immigrants infused the city with ska, rocksteady and reggae and recorded some of the era's toughest tracks. Originators from Studio One, Treasure Isle and Trojan Records all united and broke racial and cultural barriers to build an influential yet under-appreciated Canadian reggae scene that is now showcased with a 20-page booklet with archival images, artist bios and essays on this double vinyl set.
