Hayedeh - "Gol Vajeh" (5:11)
Shahyar GhanbarI - "Forbidden" (6:26)
Shahram Shabparesh - "To Mitooni" (6:45)
Hassan Shamaeizadeh - "Telesm" (6:31)
Review: Passed Out On A Persian Rug might be the best names a label we have heard in a while, as well as being the perfect way to any big weekend. Once this one is lined up on the decks though the party will be far from over - Hayedeh's 'Gol Vajeh' brings exotic vocalisations over deep house beats that get you in the zone. Shahyar GhanbarI's 'Forbidden' is another steamy and enthralling house cut with depth and soulful synth craft. There is playfulness in the chords and funky bass of Shahram Shabparesh's 'To Mitooni' and Hassan Shamaeizadeh's 'Telesm' closes with crisp, breezy tech.

Review: French Pedro Winter aka Busy P is the former manager of Daft Punk, current manager of Justice and many other electro acts, label head at Ed Banger and still active producer. Here he presents his first new music under this moniker in some four years over a pair of 12"s. The first one, 'Track Of Time' is made with the talents of Haich Ber Na and Shay Lia. It is a prime electro house cut of the sort he has dealt in his whole career. Boosting the package are three remixes courtesy of the legendary Masters At Work aka Kenny Dope and Louis Vega.

The Candy Dealers - "Train Of Thoughts" (6:13)
Harold Heath - "Slipstream" (6:59)
Jevne - "Moderize" (Asad Rizvi remix) (7:15)
Review: Native Soul Recordings has been around a long old time in dance music terms and now it looks back over some of its finest works with this first in a new series of Best Of comps. Music writer Harold Heath is first up with 'Slipstream,' an effortless smooth late-night house cut with introspective chords and silky pads bringing real depth. The Candy Dealers get more lithe and elastic with the spraying bass and jumbled percussive house of 'Train Of Thought' and last of all, Asad Rizvi remixes Jevne's 'Moderize' with a funky little bassline and chord vamps that keep you on edge. A tasteful package of timeless house grooves.

Heston - "Resign 2 U" (Reel People vocal mix)
Review: Comprised of Kranky regulars Mark Nelson, Robert Donne and percussionist Steven Hess, Anjou make their debut on the esteemed Kranky imprint. The trio trade in a unique kind of ethereality, where tracks like "Specimen Question" take you far away into a melodic daze and bring you back to planet earth feeling shaken. Beautiful snippets of field recordings, enchanting voices and a little bit of hardware fuzz created by analogue machinery make up the album's core, and tracks like "Inclosed" feel both sparse and rich at the same time, a characteristic of all the tracks herein.

Review: The team behind upstart imprint De La Groove has done a fine job on this compilation style extravaganza, which features tracks from an impressive selection of hotly tipped producers. Highlights include the bouncy, shirts-off loop-disco of Cody Currie's "ACE, At The Point of Collapse", the super-groovy, jazz-flecked deep house warmth of Demuir's "Let's Get In It", the effervescent sweetness of Black Loops' summery roller "French Affair", and the fluttering flute solos of Hotmood's goodtime jazz-funk revision "Voyage To The Onda". The purest expression of jazzy, smoky deep house is provided by COEO, whose clarinet-sporting "Azzurro" is probably our pick of a very strong bunch.

You Are My High
Review: Demon's 'You Are My High' ignited a frenzy upon its release in 1999, becoming an iconic track synonymous with the French Touch movement. Now, 25 years later, the timeless allure of 'You' remains as captivating as ever. This summer, fans can rejoice as the track celebrates its anniversary with a special collector's edition vinyl release. With 150 million streams and a platinum disc to its name, 'You Are My High' soared to success, fuelled by its unforgettable music video featuring a three-minute French kiss. Despite initial attempts at censorship by the CSA, the track ultimately found its place on television screens 24/7, leaving an indelible mark on French pop culture. Demon's masterpiece not only defined an era but also influenced a new generation of artists, from Agar Agar to DJ Snake and beyond. As a quintessential symbol of the French Touch legacy, 'You Are My High' continues to enchant listeners with its irresistible charm and infectious groove.

Review: What is love? An ancient emotion? Or a relatively recent sociological construct used to justify convenient marriages from the Victorian era onwards? This 90s dance anthem by the Trinidadian-German artist Haddaway readily asks the question and it's fair enough that he does - he wants to be sure, since he also asks us not to hurt him in the same breath. Love is a fickle beast, one that can placate and violate in equal measure, but thankfully eurodance is one of the best sounds through which to express it. Its catchy synth hook, pulsing beat, and Haddaway's soulful vocals make this a timeless club hit that still resonates today.

Review: Big Love's popular compilation-style A Touch Of Love series returns for a sixth instalment, with boss man Seamus Haji once again showcasing a quartet of tried-and-tested treats. Fittingly, he kicks things off with 'Serious', a kind of hbrid heavy garage-house/disco house affair featuring organ solos aplenty and vocals from Chicago legend Mike Dunn, before Moon Boots joins the dots between sweet 80s soul and nu-disco on the synth-powered vocal number 'In My Life'. Heavy, French Touch-inspired disco-house vibes are provided by DJ Fudge ('Escapade'), before Dutch rising star Danou P - with a little help from pal Jamie 3:26 on vocals - delivers the organ rich deep house/garage-house fusion of 'Fly'.

Mysterious Maiden (Soul Feast Reach extension produced by Joe Claussell)
Mysterious Maiden (Yin & Yang club prodcuded by Joe Claussell)
Review: Over the years Chico Hamilton has had a series of dance floor successes: from his signature song 'Conquistadors' (from his 'El Chico' album on Impulse) to the
Brazilian influenced 'Strut' (from his 'Nomad' album on Elektra) which became so successful on the Northern Soul Scene that it had its own original dance!
Recently Chico's groove has been rediscovered and re-fused: from Thievery Corporation's inclusion of 'For Mods Only' (from Chico's Impulse album 'The Dealer')
on 'Sounds From The Verve Hi-Fi' to Rong Music's 12" release of 'Kerry's Caravan' by Mudd & Chico Hamilton to Mark De Clive-Lowe's take on Chico's classic
60s track 'El Toro' (from the 'Impulsive!' project).
Chico's stature amongst tastemakers in DJ culture is long-standing and profound. More recently Chico has turned the tables recording his own arrangements of
Joaquin 'Joe' Claussell's 'Je Ka Jo' and Blaze's 'Elevation'.
Available from December 2007 comes Chico's 'Mysterious Maiden' on High Quality 180 gram premium 12" limited edition vinyl, with reworkings by SoulFeast
(Brian Michel Bacchus & Joaquin 'Joe' Claussell).
'Mysterious Maiden' is a taste of things to come from the EP 'Chico Hamilton Presents: Alternative Dimensions of El Chico' which is a sampling of the Chico Hamilton
continuum, coming Spring 2008.
On a musical journey now in its 86th year, El Chico is soon to be rocking a dance floor near you. Be sure to hold on tight as this excursion continues because...
...El Conquistador rides again.

Review: Hamburg-based duo Hard Drive Library return to do what they do best on the fourth edition of their eponymous imprint: hooky filter house tunes, extremely raw and unforgiving. On the A-side you've got the bumpin' dancefloor heater 'Keep It Groovin' and its hypnotic vocal refrain that'll have the crowd grooving 'til the break of dawn, plus two more rough and ready jams over on the flip. There's the quirky and low slung bounce of 'Donkey Damage' as well as the funked-up disco loop action on 'Dancin Heat' reminiscent of classic DJ Sneak.

It features a characterful mix of house cuts, firstly the big synth stings and stomping drums of Hard Drive Library's 'Allegro For Strings.' Review: The much welcomed Ron Hardy edit series continues apace with another two divine tweaks from the seminal Chicago DJ's vaults. First up is a track synonymous with the history of The Music Box's finest, First Choice's "Let No Man Put Asunder". It's a delicate touch he applied to one of the all time greats of disco, but it accentuates the celebratory escapism in the track, a quality that came to define the style of Hardy and his ilk. He is charged with tackling Harks & Mudd's 'Susta' and turns out two versions. His opening remix is all grown up Balearic sounds. Gentle percussion is scattered over the leggy house drums, noodling Rhodes chords bring colour and a breathy female vocal layers in the sun kissed soul. It's an immediate classic. On the flip comes his dub, which is more fleshy and elastic, but with just as much soul and warmth.

You Can Do It (HH Get On The Floor mix) (6:20)
Review: Second time around for Harlem Hustlers' surging disco-house anthem, which first appeared in stores way back in 2005. This time round, the Italian duo have reworked it considerably, placing underground boogie legend Orlando Johnson's lead vocal front and centre while opting for some more organic-sounding instrumentation (the original was more sample-heavy). On their '2023 Rework' they channel the sound of Groove Culture label bosses Mickey More and Andy Tee, wrapping Johnson's vocal, tidy horns, flanged guitars and classic-sounding piano riffs around a warming bass guitar part and crunchy house drums. It's a very classy and far more authentically 'disco'-sounding track than their 2005 original. Their flip-side 'Get On The Floor' mix, meanwhile, has a smoother, more synth-heavy disco-house sound, less vocal and even more of the excellent horn sounds.

Review: Prescription Classics continue their sterling effort to reissue Chicago's House music heritage - launching the first in a series of what we hope is many From The Vaults EPs. Originally released way back in 1998, "Coming Back" is a fine example of US Garage from Kurt Harmon, adding a soulful holler that rides the deep bumping rhythms of what was originally Ron Trent's "Pop, Dip and Spin" with natural aplomb. On the flip it's Mr Trent in full effect with the 1995 gem "Piano Track" that swiftly locks into a heavily percussive groove, with swathes of looped piano flourishes and the ever present vocal lead vying for attention amidst some energy driven chord washes.

Earlier in the year they rekindled whatever relationship it is that they share and head into the studio to craft and unashamedly Euro-centric dance-trance record 'Miracle' that now lands on vinyl via Sony. Goulding's angelic vocal is the centre point with production that harks back to Harris's earliest days - big synths, drums and piano. Upon original release, this one debuted at number three on the UK Singles Chart.

Review: This tasty 12" marks the vinyl debut of HDSN, a producer who first pricked our consciousness last year via a digital-only EP of soulful and deep house bombs on King Street Sounds. This four-tracker is a little more disco-centric in tone, with the producer combining samples from a wealth of classic and lesser-known 1970s anthems with his own beefy basslines and skipping house percussion. It's an undeniably summery and floor-friendly affair from start to finish, with highlights including the breezy, filter-sporting thrills of "Don't Hold Back", which includes a killer breakbeat breakdown and colossal drop midway through, the Soundstream-ish disco-house heaviness of string-laden killer "Heavy Rotation" and the deeper, richer goodness of closer "Sacrifice".

Review: Do you feel like dancing? A masterclass in floor-filling (the inevitable result of including exactly what you want your audience to do in the lyrics) Henderson & Whitfield's 'Dancin' To The Beat' is an early example of psychologically affective music from New York - ironically hailing from an era in which city-dwellers didn't need much encouragement to dance in the first place. But hey. On 45rpm vinyl for the first time, both the repetitious vocal and remix-worthy instrumental versions are on there, giving this prime cut yet another fighting chance to make itself known.

This 12", which is dedicated to the late, great Paul "Trouble" Anderson, boasts fresh, club-ready remixes of the singer's solo cover of that loved-up club classic. Masters At Work man Louie Vega handles the A-side, placing Henry's fine vocal above a bed of swinging NYC house beats, fluid piano motifs and string-laden chords. Here, label head honchos Jamie Jones and Lee Foss revived their Hot Natured project for a sweet stroll through smiley vocal house territory in the company of one-time electrofunk revivalist Ali Love. "Benediction" is good for what it is - a vaguely deep, pleasant Hot Creations record - but the real killer here is the remix of former single "Forward Motion" by crusty old US garage head Mark "MK" Kinchen. Don't Touch The Alarm (Booka Shade remix)
Review: It seems like new artist-run labels are ten a penny these days, but coming from the much-loved Hot Since 82, Knee Deep In Sound promises to be a cut above the rest. The producer has wisely opted to open proceedings with one of his own tracks; entitled "Don't Touch The Alarm", it's a dark, moody piece of rolling club music that cranks up the tension with its edgy synths and staccato chords, and shows that the producer means business on his new label endeavour. The producer has also scored something of a coup for the flipside, reigning in pioneering duo Booka Shade to rework the track in their signature style, which has been much imitated but never bettered.

Junkie (6:51)
Junkie (Loz Goddard remix) (6:22)
Dis.Co (6:28)
Cosmic Groove (6:43)
Review: That whacky bunch the Whiskey Pickle gang are back at it again, firing up the choice disco edit engine for another freewheeling ride into the land of the sophisticated party. Hotmood is at the wheel, and his style is firm but laid back, just how you want your driver to be. "Junkie" is a consummate groover, not least when it drops down into a gorgeous bass lick. Loz Goddard does a fine job of chopping the track into a more housey thrust, but then it's back to a more vintage feeling on the B-side as "Dis.Co" channels the Salsoul spirit to great effect. "Cosmic Groove" is a punchier jam, but it's still brimming with the evergreen energy of classic disco.

C Da Afro - "Time To Move" (6:03)
Ziggy Phunk - "Space Ranger" (6:44)
Alexny - "Umbele" (6:48)
Review: The See-Saw label calls up a hit list of disco edit dynamos to bring a little party rocking magic to their latest 12", leading in with the looped up funk of Hotmood. 'Seductive Look' is the perfect insistent groove to get lost in, which contrasts with the bold and feisty 'Time To Move' by C Da Afro. Keeping things mixed up on the B side, Ziggy Phunk brings something special in the pattering, bongo-laden roller 'Space Ranger'. Alexny rounds things off with the low slung thwack and transcendent sax of 'Umbele', a track humming with the energy of Afrobeat at its source.

Please Take Me There (Makez vocal House remix) (6:30)
Please Take Me There (Sizmo A Capella dub mix) (6:39)
Review: House of Spirits made a fine debut on this label back in summer and now quickly follows it up with more sumptuous house sounds. It is an alias of Tom Noble, a mind full of soulful and blissed out musical ideas that he translates fantastically. 'Please Take Me There' is irresistibly cool and catchy with its funky bass riffs and many great guitar motifs all causing over a smooth groove. The Makez vocal House remix is deeper and has a hint of shuffling US garage to it, then the Sizmo A Capella dub mix ups the blissed out feels with new age melodies and supple, dubby drums.

Reggie The Movemaker - "Get Your Money Man"
House To House - "Taste My Love" (feat Kym Mazelle)
Review: Two absolutely amazing Chicago house classics produced by the masters of the masters... and out of print since 1987 (almost 20 years!!!). House To House (featuring Kim Mazelle) is actually Marshall Jefferson with one of the greatest tracks he ever made! A deep driving vocal house track that couldn't be better. The soulful vocals are performed by a young Kim Mazelle and make you shiver!! On the flip there is another masterpiece by no one else then Farley Jackmaster Funk (joined by Reggie The Movemaker). He produced a jacking house track for Reggie (but we are not really sure if this Reggie really exists). This track still creates a stir on the dance floors and makes the hands go in the air when the bassline kicks in! A piece of forgotten music history. Must have!

Review: The second in the HouseHeadz00 Series, The Black Edition, is "a masterful exploration of house music's rich and varied landscape." The EP take in four tracks that combine seamlessly blend different subgenres into one complete listening experience. 'Recuerdo' goes for classic house with its vibrant pianos and uplifting melodies, 'Desire' heads deeper with hypnotic beats and lush textures. On the flip, 'Dream' does what it says on the tin, enveloping you in a woozy, dreamlike state with intricate layers and ethereal sounds, before 'Ever' introduces a soulful dimension with smooth vocals and emotive harmonies. Something for everyone, pretty much.

Review: Dobro are packing the heat in on this second 12", bringing us six refined slices of deep house goodness from some emergent operators to keep tabs on. Hurlee is up first with the honey-coated keys and dusty bump of 'Pel Meu Per Tu', while Igor Gonya whips up some oh so sweet soul licks and straps them to a sprightly, skipping beat. Cosmocomics get seriously soulful, MuteNoise brings a heavy disco edit flavour, Jeff The Fool pitches squarely at the peak time, and Will Sonic rounds things off on a positively dreamy tip without letting the floor-friendly vibes slip.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***

Over the last three years, DJ/producer Mimmo "MoBlack" Falcone has turned MoBlack Records into arguably the World's leading label for African house music. Defected clearly thinks so, because the label has decided to put out this EP featuring tracks from remixes from Falcone and some of his regular collaborators. On side A Falcone joins forces with Armonica to deliver two sparkling, rubbery, positive and heavily electronic reworks of Fela Kuti classic 'International Thief Thief'. Both hit the spot, though it's the Dub, with its extended vocal breakdown and trippy effects, that floats our boat. Over on the flip we're treated to two versions of MoBlack, Emmanuel Jal and Henrick Schwarz hook-up 'Chagu': a bouncy Afro-tech take from Schwarz and a warmer, deep Afro-house interpretation by Falcone.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: You just can't beat those Super Secret Squirrel Trax releases on Guesthouse, one of the most sizable house labels operating of the Bay Area. On this third installment, Mark Funk and Danny Cruz keep things live and direct with the impassioned soulful house of "Givin' My Love". Peter Brown then slides in with the tracky pressure of "Funkosphere", which comes with added flute for good measure. DJ Mes also strikes a headier groove, but teases the ingredients on "State Of Affairs" out into an effervescent peak time floor filler, and then Hazzaro brings it home with the rallying, roller-skate call of "Saturday".

Diana Ross sounds funky as anything on Mark Funk & Danny Cruz's 'It's My House', while the Souxsoul remix of Sound Of Joy's 'Can't Fake The Feeling' keeps Virag's vocal front and centre and teases out the tension until a sweet disco release. He's no stranger to G.A.M.M. having garnered several releases on it in recent years, and this might be one of his most exciting yet. Here he lends his Midas touch to two classics by legend Herbie Hancock; on the first side he turns 'Butterfly' into a lo-slung late night groove that makes for proper mood music, while over on the flip there's a right dancefloor heater in the form of a seriously funked-up tweak of 'Hang Up Your Hang Ups'.

The first one was essential and this follow-up from Igor Gonya's label features a blend of heavy hitters next to some cool emerging talents. Opening with Manuel Sahagun's smooth deep house track 'Get Yourself' things move on to a taste of US house from Human By Nature, who serves up a rich atmosphere and nostalgic 90s piano riffs. The A-side finishes strong with Gramophonedzie's high-energy jackin' filter workout then on the B-side, French producer Naux creates a deep groove built around chord stabs. Stogov follows with the soulful 'Walking Wide' while JR From Dallas and Justnique wrap up the EP with a seductive deep house finale.
