Absolute Zero & Subphonics - "The Code" (SKC remix) (5:13)
Noisia & The Upbeats - "Sacrifice" (6:11)
Digital & Spirit - "No Fear" (6:06)
Gremlinz & Overlook - "Horns 2015" (6:00)
Review: For those who appreciate the harder, more twisted side of D&B, no label can match up to the stature of Renegade Hardware. It's been some time since the legendary imprint let fly with some wax, but they've kicked off the From The Vaults series to go back over some of the most important releases in their massive catalogue and give the most worthy a fresh moment in the sun. Following on from landmark EPs from Chase & Status and Total Science, here's a VA disc featuring absolute devastation from Absolute Zero & Subphonics, gnarly acrobatics from the imperious Noisia and The Upbeats, an icy stalker from Digital and Spirit and classic 'Horn Track' sampling hi-jinx from Gremlinz and Overlook.

DC Breaks - "Slugs"
Rene Lavice - "Portland"
Stealth - "Nightfall" (feat Codebreaker)
Dose - "Bounce Off"
Review: The second instalment of the Nightlife 6 EP, it's yet another picture perfect snapshot of modern day D&B taken by Andy C. DC Breaks take the lead with the razor-sharp steps and bruising bass burps of "Slugs" and LaVice follows with the almighty drone attack "Portland". Conjuring up memories of Full Cycle in their prime, it's a timeless hurter. Stealth & Codebreaker take us to the darkest possible corners with a punishing amen attack while Dose's "Bounce Off" lives up to its name in every way. Exceedingly heavy.

Review: From the label that sent sparks flying last year, the third eagerly awaited release from Lifted Music is here to impressively kick start 2008.
'From The Inside Out' sees the collaboration of superior artists Spor, Apex, Ewun, Evol Intent, and Phace. This double 12" is proof there's
no holding back this year. With strong DJ support across the board, even Andy C hasn't missed this one - each and every set for months.
A must have for any realist d&b head.

Good Ova Evil (Sativa club version) (4:23)
Review: Ploughing into the club with pure murkery and venom, Italian crew Butu Yard lay down a 150 piece on Matera-based label. Sitting somewhere between Biome and Strategy, it's thick, oily, industrial strength badness that's primed for system demolition as 2022 progresses and things open up more. Amplified on the B by a turbo-charged jungle twist from Sativa Club where the powerful vocal and heavy bass textures are maintained beneath some rampant 160 breaks work.

Soul Connection - "Dub Music" (6:05)
Soul Connection - "Keep Me High" (6:08)
Review: Emerging US label Rhythm Syndicate collide into our lives with this exemplary quartet from two well-established rising talents. UK's Conspire take the A-side with two dark liquid gems. 'Deep Beat' nods its hat to Goodlooking with its bulging subs and jazzy flourishes while 'Late Night' maintains the emotions but adds more amen tension. Flip for the similarly barbed sounds from Serbia's Soul Connection. 'Dub Music' brings a meditative edge with its humming low end and dub influences while 'Keep Me High' brings the EP to a majestic, cosmic close. Precision timed for the sunnier months, Rhythm Syndicate have all the right ducks in a row here.

Heaven (6:19)
Stage Fright (4:29)
Square One (5:36)
Review: Following their reunion on Metalheadz earlier this year, the legendary partnership of Digital & Spirit return to their spiritual home Phantom Audio with four mammoth jungle gems... Ageless, uncompromised and galvanised with a certain sense of dark danger, each cut hits hard. "Vision" is the stepper for set with its Dispatch-style bass plucks, "Heaven" is a skippy, subby early 90s homage, "Stage Fright" is all drama and drums (think late 90s Doc Scott) while "Square One" is an amen frenzy laced with ghostly cries and bowel-battering subs. It's like they never stopped producing together.

Backlash (Digital & Spirit rework)
Review: Rewind: it's destination 1999 as Digital and Spirit dust off one of their biggest cuts and let Fracture go to town on it. One of the most exciting prospects in the half-step scene, his delivery is up there with Dub Phizix in the unique stakes. This trippy, spliced, slo-mo jungle mix being no exception. Digital and Spirit themselves get in on the action with their own remix of "Backlash"; a rich tapestry of industrial riddims and deep space hooks, it's like the Blue Note all over again.

Review: Uncompromised breakbeat mayhem: Bristol crew Our Fucking Jungle invite two titans of the hardcore D&B scene for a double-sided damage platter. The legend that is The DJ Producer kicks off with a wily, turbo-charged slammer that's riddled with edits, twisted drum reveals and sudden plunges into wall of sound sonic hurricanes. SMYLA follows suit with a more industrial drum set, demonically downpitched reeses and a groove that won't let up for anyone.

Limited and not to be repressed, the inaugural volume is packed with four thick slabs of Shogun's broad pie on a delicious green 12" platter; Document One's unique bass tripper "LSD", GLXY & DRS's introspective "These Lights", Pola & Bryson's starlit take on "Porcelain" and the evergreen soulful wobbler "Burning" from the dream trio that is Serum, Paul T & Edward Oberon all map out the label's breadth and extremities with precision.

Review: Long running Bristol crew Dr Meaker surface on V Recordings with a vinyl issue of "Right Back", the fans favourite which features the distinctive tones of Sian Evans. Initially released digitally through Circus last month and backed with a slew of remixes, it's nice to see the good Doctor right back on the vinyl format and on V, with Break's excellent remix also making the cut. Review: "Gazillions" marks a first VA offering for the Fever AM label. It calls upon emerging producers from around the world and kicks off with Russian duo Formally Unknown. "Lotus Turbo" is a squelchy electro workout with kick drums to die for. CCL and Flora FM then come together for "Iridescent Lake", an utterly wild drum workout that will blow your socks off. London based brothers Ed and Rob work together as Paper on the old school bleep techno cut "Beaman" before Silene rounds things out with "Jiro", the most experimental of the lot thanks to its hall of mirror feel, slithering synths and jerking rhythms. Fresh indeed.

Review: Fracture and Sam Binga are a collaborative match made in minimal heaven. Teaming up with Bristol mic man Rider makes this pact all the sweeter. Sleazy future dancehall vibes, the lean arrangements allow Rider's steamy dancefloor poetry to enjoy maximum effect as he explains his methods and techniques with the fairer sex with baritone abandon. Highlights include the tropical uplifts of "Bubble" and Logos cosmic twist on "She Want It Ruff". "FDGD" FTW.

Review: Four firing ragga jungle versions from French skank-shakers Psychodynamik. First up; Ed Solo adds some serious turbo juice to Freestylers & Stereotype's 2013 bubbler "The Coming Storm", Turnable Dubbers follow with a similarly satisfying twist on Protoje's "Who Knows", retaining the full vocal but adding a warm, rugged bass flow beneath. Lopez - "Beyond Fear" (8:26)
Syuss & Reality - "Missing Link" (6:28)
Review: Fans of Hessle Audio's weekly show on Rinse should be familiar with Cambridge, Massachusetts-based label 8205, with founder Pete DevNull making a recent standout guest appearance - do seek out the podcast!! To the uninitiated, 8205 is DevNull's outlet for putting his encyclopaedic knowledge of '90s era jungle and hardcore to good use with irregular vinyl and digital reissues of previously unheard productions. Paydirt is most certainly hit upon for this third 8205 transmission with a '97 era jungle cut from Lopez backed up by a collaboration between Syuss and Reality. Up top, "Beyond Fear" bristles with the sort of atmosphere that was rife in jungle at the time and its no surprise it was a secret weapon for the likes of Bukem and Subject 13. Only ever aired in abridged form on a Japanese import mix CD by Subject 13, 8205 score the full release of this deep cut some 19 years on. On the flip, Syuss and Reality's 1995 track "Missing Link" is stripped back jungle that hits you square in the gut with how futuristic it still sounds some two decades on.

Review: Fokuz's "Hateful Eighty" project continues to deliver with another superlative slice of liquid fizz: Macca & Loz is a powerful vocal swinger that tips a huge nod at the legacy and influence of Break. Silence Groove's "Kinky Questions" retains the early 2000s soul sparkle but with more of a sultry edge thanks to the deft use of a classic E-Smooth acapella sample. Parris - "Dusty Glass Bubbles" (5:26)
Review: This new one on Martyn's 3024 might be a various artists affair but the tracks sit rather well together, which is even more remarkable given the diverse backgrounds of those involved: Noire with his super hard drums, Metalheadz affiliates Gremlinz & Jesta who link here with Sin, and Parris who makes some truly bonkers club music. Martyn's own "Frozen Bread Snaps" is the opener that most impresses with its delicate and skeletal drum programming and heartfelt chords. Elsewhere, "Door Of Guf" is a high octane rough rider while "Ballas" is perfectly off kilter and funky. "Dusty Glass Bubbles" somehow sounds exactly like it should with that title.

Echoing the Autonomic sound that was happening at the time, plus the work of artists like Resound, Loxy and Ink, both 'Coda' and 'Loose Threads' shimmer and glow with a cosmic flare that's hard to find in modern jungle drum & bass. 'Code' is all about the big swashbuckling breaks while 'Loose Threads' has more of a techno edge with its slippery synth bassline and spacious dynamic. Timeless.

Review: Pow! Right in the kisser: Federation X get busy on the remix front, drawing two classics from their eight year old vaults. First up, Spirit takes FDX's 002 release from Morphy and gives it a whole new coat of nuclear bomb proof armour. He says riot, he means riot. Handle with caution. X Nation isn't mucking around either as he keeps Skitty's original horns but builds a much meaner, machine funk beat around them. Savage.

Review: Make hay while the sun shines... Binga and Unit's Bunit collaborations are rare - both in volume of pressings and in the fact they're only doing one collabo a year. Lucky for us there are four tracks to chow down on and they're all as remarkable, rich and alluring as you'd want them to be. "Optimus Prime" is almost Italo in its synth silkiness and rare groove, "2000 Dogs" is the dancehall your great grandkids will be dancing to while "Up & Under" is an all-out bubbly jungle brock out and "Baby Steps" winds down on a cinematic, emotional sci-fi finale. Beautiful stuff... Bun it at your peril.

Alix Perez - "Gully Halves"
Review: Alix Perez on Exit? That's enough to make most D&B aficionados froth at the mouth. Throw in collabs with the equally hot Stray and two of footwork's most demonstrative players and you've got a release so cool it comes with its own beard. "U" is a rifle-like jitter-jam of cuts and chops, all massages together to juke glue. "Sludge", meanwhile, lives up to its name in every way. A funky post-dubstep downbeat strutter, it wonks as hard as it works. The truly unique "Make It Worth", meanwhile, is an eerie stepper that morphs from subtle to stately drama with a Detroit style heaviness and a grime vocal loop. Finally we hit "Gully Halves" which, as the title suggests, is a waspy paranoid bassline on a dark stroppy halfstep. Four incredible future jams from the Shogun superstar... This is next level business.

Review: One of the most consistent and on-point labels in The Netherlands for over 20 years, Fokuz continue to bring through the new generation of artists and champion young talent. Here's a fine example as they reload some moments where they bring together the big guns of the scene with the next-gen; the late great Spectrasoul take Phaction's 'Fantasy' to exciting places with that effortless bassline prowess while the one and only Calibre adds a little dusty haze to Satl's aptly-titled 'Forward Thinking'. Serum - "Energy"
Review: Bryan Gee's Chronic imprint continues to act as a rejuvenated outlet for those seeking heavyweight, bass fuelled junglist riddims, with the label's first release of 2014 taking shape in that most appealing of formats - the double pack. The Warehouse Music sampler precedes the release of a 24 track various artists compilation that is described by Chronic as "an ode to the more stripped back, raw sounds of D&B's past - all with the unmistakable edge of 2014 production power". The four tracks here certainly live up to that billing, commencing with one of Roni Size's most vicious productions in some time in the shape of "Blind Alley". This sets a dark tone for what follows from Capone, Optiv & BTK and Serum, whose closing track "Energy" is likely to test the facial muscles and gun fingers of dancefloor attendees across the globe, such is the screwy nature of the bass line.

Review: More heat from Okbron here with a previously unreleased tune by Seba from the early 2000 pressed to wax in limited quantities with no repress. 'Lithium' is a deep one with smooth drum grooves overlaid by watery droplets and nice bubbling melodies. It's a soulful cut for those dreamy dancing sessions that has real colour and character. 'Rubiks Cube' then gets more textured. The pixelated chords cut through crashing beats, with warmer bass underlapping. One of his regular home label Fokuz Recordings outta Holland has got some more goodness here with silky vocal roller 'Shades Of Me & You' open up on a vibe. Review: Just when you thought Soul:R's Fourfit collection couldn't get any better... Along comes Seba with four delicious pieces of emotion-rich but heavily weighted drum & bass soul. "Hide The Tears" is a real star-gazer with evocative, almost trance-like chord changes, "Dark Horse" has a techno-like attitude with its eerie topline that flickers and weaves amid the ever-mutating drums, "Fade To Red" switches the drum arrangement to create space for DRS and Trickykid who bounce bars over a paranoid, tripletty halftime groove. "Desire" closes the show with filtered stabs that are slightly reminiscent of Basement Jaxx's "Fly Life". Balanced by oceanic chords and velvet Owens-level vocals, Seba's range and depth is clear for all to witness. Again.

Bright, breezy and emotional, "Shades Of Me & You" leans back on thick weaves of synths while a breathy vocal ties all the elements - heated subs, skippy breaks and atmospheric pads - together. Review: Previous volumes in the four-part Fokuz All Stars series boasted tracks and remixes from the likes of Phaction, Satl, Calibre, Edlan, Artificial Intelligence, Kaspar and Lenzman. This edition - the third in total - focuses on the work of long-serving Swedish D&B producer Seba. A-side cut 'Sweet Magnolia' is simply sublime, with the Scandinavian adding heart-aching piano motifs, melancholic trumpet solos and Jenna G's terrifically expressive vocals to a punchy, rolling groove. Over on the flip Bert H remixes Seba's JR Vallo collaboration, 'Whisper', re-framing it as a deep, warm and spacey liquid-funk roller complete with booming sub-bass, aquatic synth sounds and dreamy chords. Luscious!

Snoflingor EP
Cat: BMT 043. Rel: 21 Nov 17
M7 (6:04)
Interstate (6:40)
Snoflingor (6:25)
Review: Now here's a meeting of the mind. Old friends Seba and Schnauss collide for a one-off vinyl-only trio on BMT. Seba's sense of space and dynamics rekindle elements of Schnauss' Ethereal 77 alter ego as the pair wile out cosmically. "M7" is a pristine dream roller with several atmospheric layers wrapped over gentle synth bass plucks and a classically rolling drum arrangement. "Interstate" is a much more direct and contemporary piece with its precision plucked elements and off-beat acidic flurries. Finally "Snoflingor" provides the final trip into the stars with a firm sense of triumph rising subtly throughout. A collection that lives up to the hype.

Review: The Habit crew bring you The Sect with 'The Beyond Fear EP', the first installment of the label's ep series. These Bristol-based producers
have uncompromising style and this ep is no exception: every tune on this double pack is pure rinse out material. This ep is larger than a
barge; fast paced rolling beats paired with monstrous base lines, gritty synth stabs and dark atmospherics flow without hesitation. Watch
out for the next ep by SPL. Oh. My. Gosh.

Pharaway (5:57)
Starry Eyed (4:50)

Different Wax (5:17)
Review: Senses has been away from production for a while but now makes a welcome return. He was a pioneer back in the 2000s with drum lead styles that came on top labels like Bassbin and Inperspective. Here he shows his skills remain very much intact with an EP featuring some signature sounds: 'Pharaway' is a smooth roller with balmy pads and silky breakbeats. There is a more brooding atmosphere to the amens of 'Fatal Fountain' with its crunchy textures while 'Different Wax' layers up liquid chords with stiff drum loops. 'Starry Eyed' is our favourite with its sultry sax lines drifting way up top.

Gator (4:31)
Tokyo Rose (4:29)
Review: Following up some great releases recently by Levela and QZB, Serum returns to London based label Critical. He is a triple award winning drum and bass DJ and producer, one third of Kings of the Rollers and owner of Souped Up Records. Here with his first ever solo single for the label, there's raw beats and bass, and sounds that are firmly tongue in cheek. Featuring the mellow yet moody stepper 'Gator' on the A side which is followed up on the flip by the DJ Krust influenced 'Tokyo Rose'.

Serum - "G Funk"
Serum vs Serial Killaz - "Hold On"
Review: Badboy business! Philly Blunt spark up once again with two absolute smokers. Serum's "G Funk" takes the very best characteristics of Finn's Urban Takeover and brings it jumping and stepping into the future. Bulbous bass and a classic jungle dynamic; this is instant rewind material. Flip for "Hold On". A tag-team tear-up with Serial Killaz, it's yet another example big bass mischief. Jump up without the agro, you'll feel you've known this record forever.

O Yeah
P&O
In Your Arms
Review: Garage innovators Time Is Now keep on rolling out the gems on their White sub-label, and this is another such platter. It's from Shadow Child and he kicks off with 'Empire (feat Mr Time)' which brings dark old school vibes and a nice icy female vocal stab. 'O Yeah' has a more twisted drum and bass combo that is heavy and unresolved in its loops, 'P&O' is a euphoric rush of post-E energy that washes over you repeatedly and 'In Your Arms' then gets the pianos out for a huge hands in the air closer. These are all hefty and high impact cuts.

Mystik Vortex (4:04)
3030 In The Mist (Bassline Mutationz) (4:11)
Review: Rave friends Shadow Child and DJ Haus link up for more Rhythm Forces and the results are double edged sword; 'Mystik Vortex' is a straight up 3am junglistic nug that's more cosmic than the contents of a wizard's pocket after a night out on the astrals. '3030 In The Mist' brings us back down to earth with slow and stately breaks and atmospheric washes so startling and refreshing you'll feel like you'll never get dry again. Maybe you won't? The force is that strong on these ones!

Hands Up (feat Daddy Freddy)
Crossbow
Drug Mule
Review: This legendary producer, who is famed for his work with Andy C and one third of Ram Trilogy, steps up with this huge EP. All four tracks have been tried and tested worldwide which has led to much anticipation for their release. 'The Shadow Knows' was featured on Andy C's 'Nightlife 3' mix, and has since found its way into all the top DJs sets, Mampi Swift has been starting every set with it. 'Hands Up' features Daddy Red, and has been supported by DJ Hype and Grooverider. Bryan G, Subfocus and Andy C have all been hammering them at club level. This is recognisable for its half time intro and ragga vocal. 'Crossbow' was only finished mid-August, and since its debut at Fabric the DJs have been knocking.

First Charge (5:50)
Review: Shimon Alcoby should need no introduction to drum and bass heads. Having collaborated with legends such as Dilinja, Andy C and Moving Fusion to name but a few, the Audioporn main man is no stranger to Liftin' Spirits either, serving up for them another killer release - his first in two decades. The two tracks on the Flava EP definitely hark back to the '90s, there's some proper rollers on offer here. From the breakneck junglist fury of the title track and its ominous atmosphere throughout, to B side cut 'First Charge' being more reminiscent of his usual work, on this darkly dystopian expression in techstep.

Parallax (5:19)
Downfall (feat Zoe Klinck) (6:30)
Fearless (with Disprove) (4:28)
Review: Noisia and Kasra are championing this young Dutchman pretty hard right now, and for good reason... He's got the touch. Whiskers deep into what's shaping up to a very bright career he returns to Critical with another beautiful EP. "Parallax" is a tension-sprung dark funk groove that wriggles with just the right amount of restraint. "Downfall", meanwhile, takes to faraway lands with its hurricane soul rolls and Zoe's delicate vocals. For a grand climax watch as "Fearless" whips up a neuro storm; all layered basses, reversed ghost tones and a wonky bass scuff that shouldn't work but really does. Another absolute A++ for Signal.

Nonlinear Threat (5:08)
I Pop, I Jit (5:29)
Review: Beware of the Naine Rouge! A Detroit folklore tale that contextualizes the city's spates of bad luck dating back over 300 years, local machine-abuser Sinistarr pays homage to the unique myth with a set of unclassifiable dancefloor smoulder sessions. Two major league tag-teams hit from the off as techno don Stingray313 pairs up for the loopy kickdrum stamping "Track 1" and ghettotech godfather DJ Nasty joins him for a furious footwork fire up "Shake". Elsewhere we get speak & spellbound on the dark stepper "Nonlinear Threats" and "I Pop, I Jit" shakes and stutters with such a rhythmic infectiousness you don't want it to ever end. Another perfect Exit release.

Keep Bubbling (DJ Sports remix) (4:39)
Review: Sister Candy's lost gem 'Keep Bubbling' has been dug out from some forgotten vault lost in time, and we're here fort. The killer jam was originally released 1984 on Raiders Records. It's that one which has been remastered here under special licence from Sir Lloyd and Sister Candy. It's got the flabbiest of bass ends you can imagine with great ragga vocals up top. The version is a real head twisting, filter heavy workout and the a DJ Sports remix brings a mad jungle breakbeat to blow your speakers apart and end the EP in style.

The Greatest Thing (Criminal Minds mix) (5:43)
All You Wanted (6:33)
Review: Most commonly known as Quivver, some of John Graham's earliest endeavours in the studio were that of a jungle nature. Largely regarded as ahead of his time - bucking the Bukem-esque 'intelligent' sound by a good few years - you can hear all soul-tingling progressive signatures that we've since heard as a member of Tilt, Quivver and Space Manoeuvres but over brackish, busted breaks. The eighth instalment of Skanna revisitations and remix here we find "The Greatest Thing" enjoying a subtle rework by Criminal Minds and the cosmic roller "All You Wanted" in all its untouched 94 glory. Both guarantee light and weight to any contemporary jungle/drum & bass set.
