Pauk - "Shiawasena Fukushu" (4:24)
Perdi Rominger - "Empty Spot" (8:20)
Promising/Youngster - "Arbey" (5:32)
Review: There's lots to get your teeth stuck into on this new and blistering collection of electro from Adepta Editions. And don't let the title fool you - it's not all accessible summer festival fare, in fact none of it is. It is all head down and serious tackle. 7053M4R14's '4 N3W HUM4N' is a driving, dark, visceral sound with raw breakbeats powering through the cosmos. Rec_Overflow offers a moment to catch your breath with some slower, dubby rhythms on 'Pocket Dial' and Pauk explores twitchy future synths capes and post-human transmissions on 'Shiawasena Fukushu'. Promising/Youngster shuts down with a sense of optimism and hope with the airy melodies and slithering electro drum patterns of 'Arbey.'

DJ T-1000 - "Detroitism"
Terrence Dixon - "Daily Routine"
Obsolete Music Technology - "Past Virtue"
Plural - "07"
Jamal M - "Fine & Mellow"
Windimoto - "Friday Night: UBQ"
Review: A hefty double 12" from Generator features a slew of basement techno bombs from both sides of the Atlantic (oh, and Australia). From the pounding, relentless throb of Abstract Science's "The Grinder" to the shuffling groove of "Detroitism" by DJ-T 1000, the eight tracks cover the full breadth of techno's rich sonic landscape. Other highlights include the broken beats and woodblock percussion on Plural's "07" and the more experimental vibe of "Fine & Mellow" by Mathematics boss and general Chicago underground legend, Jamal M. An unmissable collection of tracks packaged in highly collectable artwork by Alan Oldham, who was also responsible for the superbly illustrated Defenders Of The Deep House World EP that surfaced on Third Ear a few months back.

Review: Acid Sessions Vol. 3 is another white-knuckle journey into the world of acid with five top talents in the field all pushing their own limits. Acidulant opens with "Serpentacid' featuring hypnotic 303 grooves and relentless energy, then Sarufaromeo & Papaverhof deliver 'Acid Nihonshu' which blends atmospheric depth with chaotic acid vibes. G303 takes you beyond with 'Live Long and Prosper,' an interstellar anthem filled with cosmic acid and resonant grooves. Paul Renard closes with 'SO36' which is all about the fat rhythms and powerful dancefloor drive. Long live acid is what we say.

Joule
Review: Perc's clearly a busy man these days; with his Perc Trax empire currently expanded to include two sub labels (Perc Trax Ltd and Submit) the revered UK industrial techno producer has joined forces with an equally respected Stateside counterpart on another label. The self explanatory AX&P operation sees Sonic Groove's Adam X align with Perc for a series of intermittent studio collaborations, with the decision to release under this joint banner due to the packed schedules of their respective labels. It's a collaboration that's apparently been in gestation for two years and it shows on this superb debut three track 12" AMPERE & OHM which brings out the best of both. Lead track "Coulomb" is a throbbing mass of tunnelling, weighty techno with sparse percussion snapping away sadistically as proceedings rumble menacingly forth. On the B Side "Dines" is wound tighter, unfurling with deadly precision into a worming DJ tool that takes on increasingly psychedelic qualities as it progresses, whilst "Joule" ensures the relentless nature is kept up but offers a more rhythmic based insight into the AP&X combination.

Review: The Danza Nativa label is fresh off the back of a fine fifth birthday celebratory 2 part compilation but wastes no time getting back to business. Alderaan is the man in charge with his second for the label and 'Transition' kicks off with some mad LFO business melting your mind. Psyk remixes it into a more paired back and spooky subterranean techno prowler. With 'Vortex' there is yet more nocturnal menace with ticking hi-hats seeing rhythm as squelchy, unsettling sounds peel off the beats. 'Futurismo' closes down with a gurgling lead line and distant sci-fi sounds that complete this most futuristic EP.

Erol Alkan - "Sub Conscious"
Phreak - "Acid On"
Review: To complement Erol Alkan's long overdue induction in the Fabric mix hall of fame, the London clubbing institution have pressed up this 10" featuring a rare original production from the Phantasy Sound boss backed with a early 90s rarity from Uwe Schmidt. Within the context of the mix the B Side precedes the A Side, but given how special an Erol Alkan original is, it's no surprise "Sub Conscious" is presented as the main draw here. Undoubtedly inspired by originators such as Hardfloor and Phuture, the acid soaked "Sub Conscious" still has a certain cosmic edge to it, whilst Phreak's "Acid On" sounds just as vital now despite the fact Schmidt originally recorded it some 23 years ago!

Review: Danza Nativa is rightly celebrating its fifth anniversary recently and now follows up the first part of its anniversary compilation with part two, featuring tunes from across a broad spectrum. The first side delves into tribal rhythms and strident synths with Amandra keeping it stripped back and minimal and Dino Sabatini going deep and dubby on 'Danza Tribale'. Polygonia and Plants Army Revolver then set your mind free to wander among lush sound designs and captivating rhythms that head deep into a humid and futurist jungle.

Mark Archer - "We Jack The House"
Ben Pest - "Schedule Acid"
Posthuman - "Don't Rush"
Chevron - "Vishnu 303"
Review: Drum machines, synths and sequencers are alive and kicking on this various artist EP from, Posthuman's Balkan Vinyl label which features Horror Boogie's Ben Pest and Planet Mu artist Chevron. Mark Archer, a name familiar to Balkan Vinyl, opens the EP with an electrified piece of four-to-the-floor techno funk, while Ben Pest boils down the instrumentation in "Scheduled Acid" for a track that sounds like a cooler version of Mylo's "Muscle Car". Posthuman takes the EP into spacey, Detroit, 909 techno territory with "Don't Rush", while Chevron powers up his 303 to supply a track as cheeky and acidic as what Killekill's Affie Yusuf can muster.

Review: On Board Music is back with a fifth Various Artists EP that explores the outer edges of the techno universe. Prolific, ambient, techno and drum & bass don ASC kicks off with a weighty collaboration with Semblance. Their 'Impulse' is a dubby, bubbly rhythmic roller then Nuversion ups the dub for his atmospheric and heady cut 'Impression.' On the B-side, Polygonia's deft melodic touch is on show with the loopy and beautiful 'Veluo' and then Morphing Territories shuts down with the late night backroom sounds of 'Black Pearls'. This is another heady and well rounded EP from the ever excellent On Board.

Audio Atlas - "Finland"
Pietro Tangianu - "Frabaer"
Matti Turunen - "Nocturne"
Review: For their sixth release, deep house doyens Bliq present something a little different in the form of Space Culture Volume 1, the label's first compilation 12". The A-side is given over to the dub techno of Audio Atlas, whose track "Finland" is a suitably chilly excursion into mid-tempo 4/4, its steady pulse and icy chords seemingly inspired by a wintry Scandinavian forest at dusk. On the flip, Pietro Tangianu's "Frabaer" is a similarly laid back production, but one that thaws things slightly with its warmer, housier chords, and swung rhythm though its subs are as deep as the A-side. Finally, Matti Turunen's "Nocturne" offers something entirely different, a sparse electro track whose minimal 808 rhythms and thick bass are contrasted with melodic pads and brittle diamond-like textures.

The pair deliver crisp textures that meet the driving momentum of their electro-influenced sound design, evoking a sense of cerebral euphoria. 'Crush' expertly balances the squelchy, ice-cold synths of electro with the deep propulsion of acid house, while also drawing upon the hypnotic atmosphere of techno. Review: This will be the first of three volumes of exclusive tracks taken from Time To Express main man Peter Van Hoesen's Stealth mix CD, released in 2015. First up he delivers a trippy and ethereal remix of Chris Madak aka Bee Mask's live performance of 'Headband' taken from a recording of the 2014 Labyrinth festival, which is said to have left Van Hoesen "dazed and enthralled". On the flip he delivers a hypnotic peak time killer with "Breach" that packs equal parts energy and atmosphere, which is by now the Belgian producer's trademark. Review: Following the sudden impact of Remco Beekwilder's Moortgat EP, his label Emerald is straight back to it with a double pack VA release of quality hi-octane techno. Beekwilder himself kicks off proceedings with the nightmarish pressure of 'Rhythm Allegiance', and then we get a merry romp through all kinds of pile-driving gear from artists like Rove Ranger, Sedvs, Parano, Alarico and Jacobworld. While the vibes range from industrial and pounding to light and funky, the tempo maintains at the upper end of the spectrum, making this a very handy collection to have for those long-haul peak time gigs when you need to keep the crowd wound up.

Review: RECOMMENDED
Ride guitarist and singer Andy Bell has been busy in recent times, to put it mildly, as plans to release three EPs and an album between April and June 2021 prove. All set to be put out under the series title 'Ever Decreasing Circles', The Indica Gallery EP is the first in that set, and suggests we're in for a very, very interesting time when the next instalments follow.

The release comprises five remixes of tracks from Bell's 2020 solo outing, The View From Halfway Down, with reworkings completed by Martin Jenkins' Pye Corner Audio project, and the sixth piece here coming in the form of Bell's own edit of a PCA remix of his work, here credited to his GLOK alias. Name-dropping done, the record is a dense electronic trip into psychedelic cosmic disco slo-mo territories, dream-like ambient beauty and loose, baggy-trousered, nostalgic elec-indie fare.

4 x Harder
Review: In early 2005, Jamie Bissmire started this Techno Jacking series with a huge 4 tracker, featuring remixes of Bandulu's massive hit "Crisis 'a' Gwarn" by DJ Bam Bam, Chris Liebling, Space DJs & Bissmire himself. Since then the legendary DJ Deeon, Jackstar head boy Paul Langley & The Beatjackerz have all contributed to this ever popular label. As we arrive at the 6th release, Jamie celebrates with a monster release by the bad boys of jacking beats, DJ Bam Bam, Alex Peace, Paul Langley & Jamie Bissmire as a collective. The result is "The Jack Nation EP". DJ Bam Bam & Alex Peace have been tearing up clubs around the world from way back in 1994. With more releases than Cher, these boys have been hard at work across the pond for some time. Both DJ Bam Bam & Alex Peace have their own labels, Bass Heavy Music & Faded Music respectively, which have a huge fan base here and in the States. Check out Bam Bam's new mix CD "Beats By The Pound" and Alex peace's new Faded Music release for evidence of their superb mixing and production skills. Still banging and getting more and more popular with each day. Paul Langley has been DJing and producing jacking techno for some time now on his own imprint, Jackstar Recordings. With featured artists like Sandy Wares, DJ Rush, Mark Hawkins & many more, the label is one to keep your eyes on. Along with Bissmire, these boys bring us the first Jack Nation release. Fuelled with old school jacking beats, raw sequences and Alex "Put your fu*king hands in the air if you're ready to jack" Peace on the microphone, you know it's going to be a monster release. As the boys say...Keep on banging!

Review: This sampler from Norman Nodge's new mix CD shows that the Berghain resident spends a lot of time searching out music that no one else has. The upshot of his approach is that Nodge creates a mood like no one else. From the mix opener, the gray-scale ambience of Birds Two Cage's "Gase", through the menacing builds of Mark Broom's "Vault 5" to newcomer Patrick Graser's "From Foreign Territories" - an insistent, bleep-heavy groove to rival Sleeparchive at his most austere - this taster release proves that when it comes to setting a menacing, spooky tone, no one can match Nodge.

Design Of A Lost Sublime (8:07)
Review: Given that both Call Super and Parris have fine track records and have successfully developed their own unique, off-kilter trademarks sounds, you'd expect this first collaborative EP to not only be very good, but also sidestep rhythmic and stylistic conventions. The suite of tracks certainly ticks those boxes, with opener 'Design of a Body Sublime', the first of two tracks featuring vocalist Fox, somehow managing to brilliant fuse elements of broken techno, vintage US garage, Afro-house and UK bass. The track's New Jersey garage influences come further to the fore on the similarly rhythmically off-kilter 'Design of an Eye Sublime', while closing cut 'Design of a Lost Sublime' is a more glitchy, tech-house influenced number rich in curious instrumental samples, 4/4 techno drums and wayward electronic sounds.

This new collaboration with Parris is no different: it is a self-released project with a fictional backstory involving an ageing writer called Mortise Koshimitsu who lived in a small apartment. The music itself is uptempo but deep, with shimmering wooden hits gliding on elastic drums as ambient synth beauty bleeds into the spaces left behind. Review: Balkan Recordings return with a third edition of their Mutant City Acid series. On the A side Cardopusher gives us some vintage Chicago acid reminiscent of DJ Bam Bam on the ferocious "Facelifter" while Perseus Traxx gives us the spooky "Amphitheatre of Joppa" which builds the suspense a lot like another certain classic by Suburban Knight; you know the one! On the B side we've got "Turn My Tape Up" by Posthuman. Not just another apt slogan for the new generation but a wicked track to boot! With its driving arpeggio that later morphs into 303 style acid and rusty drums; this one's got all you need! Finally UK techno legend Paul Mac appears too! "Borrow The Sound" sees him taking time out from engineering for the likes of Ben Sims to throw down a sturdy example of dark side electro that'd make Silicon Scally and Scape One stand up and notice.

Rallying round in support of World Mental Health Day 2020, Shanti Celeste kicks the record off in style with the rapid fire, deep-diving workout 'Fantasma'. OCB keeps the pressure up with the psychotropic techno of 'RS3', while Michelle works up some delightfully freaky synths on playful jacker 'Aesthetic'. Adam Pits' trippy techno sounds resplendent on 'Wind Tunnel' and DJ Sports completes the set with the inventive, dembow slanted funk of 'Needs Dub'.

Other Worlds - "Love Amongst The Ruins"
Ruf Dug - "Tape 13"
Review: Following up their last compilation 12" with another spread of artists, Deep Space Orchestra's Use Of Weapons imprint hits release number five in fine, classic techno style. The A-Side presents plenty of elegiac goodness to expunge in the peak of the night, not least from Asok with the wistful emotion of "Amber". On the B-Side, Perseus Traxx is especially on point here with his shimmering, Carl Craig-indebted groover, while Other Worlds finds an excellent nagging groove that edges towards hi-tech jazz with its jerky hats and intricate melodies. Ruf Dug is on more mellow form, but no less rooted in the fine approaches of the Detroit godfathers with his warbling pad lines and curious bass.

Deepnaut - "World Crisis" (5:36)
Braulio Lam - "World Crisis" (5:28)
Deepchord - "World Crisis" (6:59)
Pulshar - "World Crisis" (4:26)
Review: One of the leading dub related labels to emerge in recent years, Avantroots project of taking dub as a genre to its furthest and freshest perspectives, while still showing the utmost respect for the history and the figures inside it, continues with this eye-opening contribution, 'Linval Thompson Meets Avantroots'. Featuring tracks from the likes of Deepchord, Pulshar, Deepnaut, and Braulio Lam, this latest project (as the name suggests) was led by the dub legend himself, Linval Thompson, who's list of credits and those he's influenced is pages and pages in length. 'World Crisis' is Thompson's key message, running like a refrain, re-emerging throughout the EP and finding new shapes with each artist's fresh approach. Deepchord's iteration, unsurprisingly, is the deepest of the collection, encircling and hypnotic it orbits Thompson's echoed vocals to perfection. Pulshar's take offers greater lyrical clarity, keeping the surrounding production minimal and delectably slow-paced, giving room for each element to breathe. Deepnaut's version is brighter, bubbling with the plucked samples of spaced-out electric guitar and expanding synth pads. Braulio Lam's offering, the final track on the release, is a more experimental, broken groover - chopping and shifting the vocals in a collage effect, refracting Thompson's message in order for it to be seen in a new light. A fantastic release to sink into - fully immersive and richly detailed.

Psyk - "Transito"
Rhomb - "Reboot"
Review: Creeping ever closer towards their third year of existence, Modularz have remained steadfast in their aesthetic approach, deftly combining the dynamism of straight up techno with an intricately textured approach that has proved enduringly rewarding. Label boss Developer once again features prominently on this Part One 12" of their tenth entry, contributing two A Side cuts to the face down contributions from Psyk and Rhomb. The expansive bassline to the opening track "Sequence 85" practically consumes you, with Developer's subsequent production "Sequence 88" is markedly sparser, allowing the rigid percussion and booming kicks centre stage. Last seen on Mote Evolver, Spaniard Psyk adds further balance with the subaqueous dub techno of "Transito" whilst the unknown quantity Rhomb is on electrifying form with the Mike Parker-esque "Reboot".

Temporary Insanity (4:36)
Multiple Choice (5:53)
Review: Aside from all the wonderful house music than emanates from the Motor City these days - Omar S, Moodymann and Andres in mind - there aren't many more proper techno artists left in Detroit. That is, of course, apart from Terrence Dixon, who is always sure to provide the most mind-bending arrangements under his own name, and the present Population One moniker. His first EP of 2016 comes on the excellent Out Er label, and "Temporary Insanity" is instantly recognisable as his own, with an ocean twisted chords and sci-fi low tones. "Multiple Choice" is an eerie, alien-like monster of a tune, too, but here Dixon prefers to play with the swarm of melodies and bleeps at his disposal, contorting and transforming them without any fear. Amazing, as per usual.

Population One - "Concrete Playground" (4:34)
Terrence Dixon - "Touching Bass" (4:09)
Terrence Dixon - "The Beholder" (4:24)
Review: It's a good thing that Terrence Dixon wasn't being serious when he announced that he's stopped making music. In this day and age, he is the one true pioneer left in Detroit, and his utterly singular brand of techno is an essential part of our daily existence here at HQ. This time, Dixon returns under his own name and under his most successful alias, Population One, on one split EP for Developer's Modularz label. "Code Of Conduct" and "Concrete Playground" represent the Population One side, the first tune being a subdued kick filled with cavernous space above it while the latter is more classic Population One thanks to those bizarre melodic twists. Dixon serves up "Touching Bass" and "The Beholder" on the flip, two jazzy techno sculptures that are instantly recognizable as his own. Recommended, as always.

Review: Not just any old re-press. This one has been fully remastered and will be a limited edition pressing on transparent traffic-light green vinyl. Four straight and slamming tracks in a UK vs. US style. For the US , in the red corner, we have DJ Bam Bam giving it some jacking Chicago action. Representing the UK , in the blue corner, is Paul Langley, who keeps his gloves high and demonstrates some nimble footwork to keep pace. The judges are out, and it's a draw! Too close to call between these techno heavyweights.

Conjuring up the perfect recipe for a DJ Cake, Central blends and explores the likes of pulsating atmospheric techno on the track "Balast", smoothly escalating breaks on "Ko Ko Dak Dak" and hazy crackling ambient on the finale "Daeksel". Unique, inspiring and truly excellent works from the one they call DJ Central.

Review: The Afro Acid Plastik label has been doing a fine job of carrying new and retrospective works from DJ Pierre, with the most recent focus being on extensive remix packages around the iconic 'Acid Track'. This fourth installment comes with a slightly heavy heart as fellow Chicago titan Paul Johnson leads the way with his 'Jack Nation' remix pumping out while his sad passing still weighs on our minds. Elsewhere, Marko Nastic, Shinedoe, Zombie Nation and NUDE all deliver versions which pay tribute to the legacy of one of the most important club tracks of all time.

Review: Almost thirty years after it was first released and spawned an entire new sub genre, "Acid Tracks" still bangs harder than 99% of new tunes. Here it gets remixed by a selection of seriously big names as well as hot newcomers and then pressed up to limited green vinyl. The big man Carl Cox goes first and is in no mood to muck about, layering in hammering kick drums and making the 303 even more wild and serrated. Swiss-Chilean minimalist Luciano distils it down to a more soft and supple acid track that works on the mind, while the flip side offerings serve up stomping warehouse techno, strobe-lit anthems and rubbery drum workouts.

Review: If you wanted something tangible to sum up the Plan B label right now, this Underground Sounds Volume 2 12" fits the bill perfectly. Label founder DJ Spider shares the A-side with fellow New Yorker and collaborator Phil Moffa, with the Plan B boss turning in a typically smudgy, acid stained drum track while Moffa delivers some deep techno in "A Place Of Shadows" (which sounds it would also fit well on Anthony Parasole's The Corner). On the B-side, "Synchronicity" from joint label boss Dakini9 is a kooky, stripped-back and spaced-out minimal house jam, while Hakim Murphy is again left to his own devices to create a jilted deep house number that's as rigid as it is soulful.

Worker/Parasite - "Angkar Loeu"
Review: After a catalogue of experimental, industrial and band-related releases, the Clan Destine label moves into techno with Dark Acid. The first release is a five track mini-album opened by the cagey Chicagoan bass and Marcel Duchamp-referencing Detroitisms of Dungeon Acid's "Nude Descending A Staircase". Sharing the two-track A-side is the "Subway Antlers" by the unknown cheek of Ron Hardly, featuring some '90s house percussion and a melody that sounds distinctly like the Doctor Who theme. Torn Hawk introduces some charged gothic techno with his Fast Throne mix of "Black Rain", while Tuff Sherm opts for a minimal and slow ghetto house approach in "Idle Engines". Recent One Eyed Jacks remixer Worker/Parasite brings the mini-album its most lieral representation of 'dark acid' by drenching the 303 workout that is "Angkar Loeu" in heavy reverb.

On the B side, you're treated to some bold minimal wave by Philadelphia's Plastic Ivy - who's in great form on the chilling noir antics of "Exit Strategy".
