Review: Aussie imprint Salt Mines made something of an impact with their debut release, a multi-artist EP that offered a distinctive take on the dreamy, head-in-the-clouds world of ambient-leaning, analogue deep house. This follow-up is every bit as enjoyable. There's a wonderfully spacey, loved-up feel about the intelligent techno electronics, tactile pads and hissing drum machine hits of 92 Spacedrum Orchestra's "Raw Bass (Dub 1)", while TV Out sneakily combines the new age haziness of Hashman Deejay, with the rolling grooves of Chez Damier style deep house on "Always Anyways". Hymn's "Route Acid" sounds like an unlikely jam session between Global Communication, Larry Heard and Psychik Warriors Ov Gaia, while TUC's sublime, ultra-deep "4x5_83x2" feels like a long lost, early '90s ambient techno masterpiece.

Review: The Greyscale label builds on a fine first EP with a second various artists affair that showcases a fresh take on tech house. Francisco Aguado opens up with 'Vertical Time,' a warm, deep rooted roller for those early evening sets. Giacomo Pellegrino offers a much more heavy and grainy dub techno cit with some deft vocals samples hooking you in. Dubonautik's 'Lost' is a more twisted dub with late night energy and an underlying sense of menace before Heavenchord closes out with the most seductive tune of the lot. It has strident, kicking kicks but drowsy chords and a smoky basement feel that is truly magic.

Review: Danny Was A Drag King, the delightfully named new record label initiative betwixt Ajello and Hell Yeah launches with a veritable bang! "Chocolate Black Leather" sees the former veterans of the contemporary Italo disco scene team up with it's premier queen, Hard Ton, for a delightfully loud mixture of crisp drums, acidic basslines and schizoid synth arpeggiations - all naturally engulfed in the diva stylings of Hard Ton. Just to add an extra smattering of "you might want to buy this" D.W.D.K. enlisted Brooklyn icon Brennan Green to get busy on the source material - and in a pique of generosity the China Town boss came through with no less than three variants. Whilst all three are tinged with acidic intent to varying degrees it is the full-on wig out of "Acid Dub" that impresses most.

Review: This split EP offers a number of attractions, not least a luscious sound that fixes classic, Detroit style futurism to vintage deep house grooves. There's something particularly galactic about the undulating synths and tight grooves of Hakim Murphy's "Hazey Plains In Time", while the same producer's "Chill" delivers a bubbling journey through warm electronics and tasty melodies. More obviously floor-friendly is Amir Alexander's borderline anthemic "Eyes Open Mouth Shut" - all touchy-feely chords, booming grooves and cascading synth melodies - while the quicker "Bittersweet Memories" evokes images of classic Motor City productions. Impressive stuff, all told.

Review: Shanti Radio's previous multi-artists EPs were all superb, so it's little surprise to see that the latest also consistently hits the spot. Amonita sets the tone via the soft-focus tech-house shuffle of "Lavender Bloom", where lilting strings, dreamy chords and eyes-closed female vocal samples flutter around a hypnotic groove, before RVNZ offers up the similarly breezy and spring-fresh bliss of "Big Red Machine". Over on side B, Hermazez explores the kind of ultra-melodious and atmospheric hybrid progressive house/tech-house sound that the All Day I Dream label does so well ("Flame Keeper"), while Fulltone unfurls warm and ear-catching melodies and sumptuous chords on sunrise-ready closing cut "Woodland Oracle".

Review: Four of the hundred plus cuts featured on the monolithic Nightlife 6 masterpiece, there's no better seal of approval in D&B. Hive's "Neo" originally featured on the debut Nightlife mix 10 years ago. Now back with a pressure cooker rub from Audio, it still kills to this day. June Miller & Nymfo provide a haunted house vibe complete with paranoid guitars and gravel gut bass while Unknown Error reps D&B's soulful side with the gorgeous piano-thumping "Rising". Xtrah completes this part with another impeccable body-slammer. All rim shots and droning subs, this one's designed for the darkest hours.

Review: Akira Arasawa opens up with psychedelic Balearic house on 'Panorama New Touch' while OR's 'Hammock Beats' is glitchy and low-slung downtempo. On the flip is the nine-minute head melter 'Liquidanz' with its rippling synth modulations and Hutte Sound System close down with the dreamy end of the night soother 'Fire Fly'. Thsi mproject sees Especial Specials joining forces ed up with Chillmountain Recordings - a label from Osaka, Japan - on a series of new EPs, this being the first of hopefully many. The idea is to show the world the talents the label has at its disposal. It's definitely a case of mission accomplished on this evidence.

Review: Ibadan Records doesn't release anywhere near as many EPs as it once did, but those that the label does put out tend to be action-packed and of the highest quality. Their latest - the third edition in their occasional "Leads & Bites" multi-artist series - certainly fits the bill. Label founder Jerome Sydenham is undoubtedly the star of the show. He first joins forces with Argy on a hypnotic late night Dub of basement-bothering big room workout "Whisper Track", before going solo on the off-kilter, minor key deep house brilliance of "Purple Beech". Over on side B he collaborates with Janne Tavi on the "Weekend"-sampling deep piano house flex of "Street Jazz", before layering up toasty Rhodes riffs and sweaty, cymbal heavy jazz-house beats on his "Raw Dub" of Herb Martin's "Soul Drums".

Review: The French brat pack are back; Around7 and Joss Moog are a couple of Phil Weeks' proteges and they turn in some sweet disco edits here. They just so happen to own the label too. Around7's "Live At Fillmore" sounds so awesome; is it possibly a Moodymann/Norma Jean Bell edit? Moog's "I cant Say No" is some proper disco house deepness. On the flip, they've got some newcomers in the form of Paul Cut with "Heaven" a loopy soul-funk cut up and Hatelate with "The Boogie Show" which is pretty sweet, who did he sample on this one again? Reminiscent of "Working Nights" era Trus'me.

Review: Ralph Lawsons'20/20 Vision label has done a fine job of evolving and re-emerging after its 20th anniversary and is now serving up cutting edge sounds from fresh new artists once more. It has done plenty of good work in the world of electro recently but here it goes back to deep house from a fine rabble of artists. There is a slick bump n funk to the opener before warped cosmic tones and neon colours define the speedy deep techno of Harrison BDP's 'Dirty Mochyn.' On the flip are some more of those breezy Adam Pits beats and Keisuke's 'OK Taiko' then brings an early, percussive house vibe that takes us back to late 80s Chicago.

Review: Since -re-establishing his early noughties Visions imprint in 2017, Swiss scene stalwart Alex Attias has delivered some of his most impressive and musically dexterous material. He's at it again here on a two-tracker that showcases his love of studio collaboration. Our pick of the pair is exuberant, life-affirming A-side "The Message (For You)", a sublime slab of loose-limbed Latin house soulfulness featuring vocals from Justin Chapman and keys-work from Japanese artist Hajime Yochizawa. Attias' old pal Mark De Clive-Lowe lends a hand of equally positive and sparkling flipside "The Waiting Game", adding all manner of jazz-funk inspired sound synths to a fine, rubbery deep house workout.

Review: Chez Damier and Ben Vedren's H2H project recovers from its intense Villalobos session last year with a brand new original and two exceptional remixes from Detroit OG Thomas Barnett. "Les Perdre" (which apparently is still in demo phase but sounds great to us) creates a superb spring effect in the groove with clever reverse textures before suddenly dropping into organ heaven mid way. Elsewhere we find Barnett adding a little warm analog spring to proceedings himself as he gives "Berlin Nights In Paris" and (fittingly) "Made In Detroit" his own titanium jack and subtle tendrils of acid.

Review: Friendly Monster is a new label that's so far only released the one record, a three-track various artist 12". They've done the same for their second offering, only giving Bendy & Hristo and Free Association a side of real estate each. Combine elements of New York disco with new wave, no wave, minimal wave, whatever wave, and Bendy & Hristo's own edit to their track "Love Contest" has all the makings of a swooning floor filler. Meanwhile the B-side has more of an Arthur Russell element to it, with flashes of Queen, indie rock, rock and cosmic disco mixed in. Two tough and sensual cuts on the one record.

Review: Northern Irish duo Bicep has built their production career on blending, repackaging and reimagining classic house influences. It's little surprise, then, to find that this latest 12" does the same. Hammer collaboration "Dahlia" sets the tone, combining the bold pianos of vintage Italian house with the kind of dreamy pads and snappy drum machine rhythms that recall the Halcyon days of late '80s/early '80s Balearic house. There's more of a sweaty warehouse feel about "Rays" - all yelping female vocal cuts, booming garage bass and skipping beats - while "Seagulls" sits somewhere between the two tracks, offering both bottom-end bump and eyes-closed sweetness.

Review: Linking up for the first time since 'Thoroughbred', kindred spirits Sam Binga and Hyroglifics collide to create their biggest collaborative body of work to date; 'Wicked & Bad'. Not just a kooky title, it truly is loaded to the lips with naughty... The opening system shaker 'Wicked' with long-time compadre Redders, the ice cold electro thrills of 'Wits End', the Riko Dan-front bubbler 'Bad' and the trippy instrumental grime finale 'No Dice' are all primed with the wickedness, and indeed badness, one needs to survive in these nonviable times. Critical in more ways than one.

Review: Short Attention has more than grabbed ours with its first two EPs and this third one keeps up that good early form. It's a heavy-hitting mix of pivotal house talents starting off with prolific Windy City player Boo Williams. The big man's 'Transformation' is a smooth and chord-laced house roller that has a more reflective vibe than his usual party-starting offerings. Atlanta don Kai Alce's 'Love Exists' is a heartfelt house romance then the long-time partnership of Owen Jay & Melchior Sultana douse us in star-gazing chords on 'Soul Expression' that leave you feeling refreshed. Hector Ram's 'Morning Sun Vibes' then uplifts with beautifully gentle piano chords.

Review: Ashley Beedle and Ray Mang aka The Boogie Twins have reworked and edited one of Paul "Trouble" Anderson's biggest signature tracks. Beedle claimed witnessing Anderson at work at his Electric Ballroom residency back in the day was a major influence, where the late selector would move through boogie, electro, hip-hop and disco, particularly the low slung groove of Trouble On The Land's "A Love That Is Real" that's featured on this 12". The pair get to work, offering a special dubbed-out edit of this rare groove classic which remains a much-loved staple of today's club scene and an example of Anderson's exceptional ear for music. This is a charity record and a tribute to Anderson, with all profits directed to Macmillan Cancer UK.

Review: Seminal New York City imprint Serotonin lives on. John Selway and Jason Szostek present It's What We Live For: Volume 2 - the second in a series of compilations sharing their vision of sounds of tomorrow. Szostek himself dons the well known BPMF alias again for some fierce breakbeat techno action on "Zu Heib Fur Uns", the equally legendary Healy brothers aka Somatic Response still going strong - as heard on the slo-mo acid trance journey "Strategy Of Desire" and relative newcomer Heidi Sabertooth of Opal Onyx delivers some sludgy electro-punk antics on "So You Want To Take Back Your Will". There's some handy locked grooves on the electro-bass tip featured too by Synapse and Pointsman, which were pretty wicked too.

Review: Fresh from dropping fine EPs on Heist and Splendor & Squalor, regular collaborators Brame and Hamo join forces for their second outing on Dirt Crew. Opener "Lamaj" is little less than sublime, with twinkling piano and string samples riding a loose, lolloping, jazz-flecked deep house groove. Andy Hart's straighter, chunkier remix is good, too, though it lacks a little of the original's yearning blissfulness. Elsewhere, the duo doffs a cap to boogie and funk on the sumptuous summer house jam "Four Lights", before closing proceedings with the rolling grooves and fireside Rhodes chords of the bizarrely titled "Garlic Fist Pump".

Review: If you're not overjoyed by the release of new material from Break, you should have a quiet word with yourself. Yes, the man is a powerhouse and manages to share a seemingly endless supply of his own brand of break-laden tunes year after year; but that don't mean he burns out, it means he fires up. As the title suggests, Break Presents Symmetry Sessions 2 follows the inaugural edition from Symmetry that surfaced earlier this year and features surprising tunes like the foray into minimal desolation from Mako, and a fine collaboration between Break, NFM and HLZ in "Atlas Shrugged". The man himself lays down a killer lead track in the shape of the vicious jazz tech business of "Give It Up".
