Selador Decade Vol 1
3D & Robert Owens - "Known Love" (7:51)
Olivier Giacomotto & Quivver - "Snailblazer" (6:40)
Dave Seaman & Hernan Cattaneo - "Napkin Knowledge" (7:28)
Argia & Jepe - "Salitre" (7:38)
Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. A varied yet firmly cohesive collaborative release - the perfect way for Selador to kick off their 2023 catalogue.

Mess With You (HM505 Reinterpretation) (6:44)
Review: After a brief hiatus, Synapsis Records makes a triumphant return with a standout 12" release from Iranian artist Siamak Amidi, complemented by reinterpretations from hm505. Synapsis-019, Crack A Love Ball, offers a sublime mix of minimalism and complexity, showcasing Amidi's deft touch for immersive sound design on the A-side. His original tracks, 'Crack A Love Ball' and 'Mess with You', are masterclasses in subtle intricacy, blending rich percussion with understated grooves. Meanwhile, the B-side sees hm505's reinterpretations take the originals in new directions, layering lush melodies and swirling arpeggios that pull at the heartstrings. Synapsis-019 is a sonic journey that demonstrates both Amidi's thoughtful craftsmanship and hm505's ability to transform tracks into emotive experiences.

Roberto Manolio - "Blue Yes" (6:40)
Review: Musek return for another V/A release, flaunting their artists' variegated hitmaking capacities. Fronting the release is a wonderful rework of Stockholm trio Art Fact's 'Rain In The South' from 1989, to which Francesco Farfa and Hamsa bring extra electronic-bodyweight to an originally dripping synth tune. A mystical mood is continually proferred across 'Mystic Perc' through to 'Blue Yes' by Roberto Manolio, traversing chime tinglings, acid breaks and dreamy vocals: "pretty blue eyes... you're mesmerised... don't look to hard... you may never come back from that..."

Estrato Aurora & Siarem - "Fuego" (6:10)
Human Space Machine - "Persist" (6:39)
OK EG - "Dual Path" (7:15)
Review: Deeper shades of a finely sifted pedigree. Irish label Appian Sounds, helmed up by Al Blayney, champion only winnowed techno sounds, not threshed. A welcome international team huddle in, with these six artists from locales as far-flung as Amsterdam and Valencia contributing the likes of 'Tsuneo' and 'Persist'. The tunes verge melodic as they move through and beyond jankiness, distending die-cut acids and subtly synthetic humanisations, especially in the percussion department. 'Fuego' is the zen roshi's choice, its gaffered, glass-smithed pads topping off a naturalistic percussive surging forward, one best experienced with your eyes closed.

Hydergine - "Mystic Light" (6:11)
Hydergine - "Lunar Eclipse" (7:32)
Review: Lempuyang's third offering is an outstanding split release between Steve O'Sullivan & Hydergine, label bosses for Mosaic/Bluetrain & Ranges. In 'Binary Riddim' Steve delivers a two-part dub track spanning >13 minutes, seriously heavy in the low end; melancholy strings in the first half, progressing to outright menacing chord stabs in the latter. A versatile track offering something for both warm-up and the dancefloor. Complimenting on the flip are 'Mystic Light' and 'Lunar Eclipse' from Hydergine. Deep, dubby atmospherics meander over a weighty 909 kick on B1. Subtle minimalism a la Terrence Dixon, pitched down on B2. Essential release!

Review: On the A1 Chekov follows up their moves on Peach Discs and Timedance with a proper peak timer, they've been described by Ben UFO as 'king of the build up' and that's evident on this one. At the A2 London's Doppelate makes their Cong Burn debut with an elegant tech-house roller. Review: Cong Burn continues to exercise one of the most promising instincts for future-minded music on this, their third release. It's surprising they haven't done more previously, considering the maturity of their curation, but either way the quality remains at an all time high here, leading in with some light and liquefied 4/4 sonics from Chekov before pirouetting into one of Duckett's illustrious abstractions around the techno blueprint. Label regular Lack is back on side B with the stern and punchy "Track 3," and then Haddon finishes the record off with "Anabiosis," a densely textured, slow creeping trip of a track.

Review: The Sound Migration label takes another trip back in to the CATT articles to explore the proto-trance and early bleep techno sound they were pushing from 1988-1991. Another five essential gems from the modestly sized catalogue get an airing here, kicking off with Confidential's haunting 'Amphibious Carbine' followed by the boxy pressure of Exocet's 'Nitrogen'. This is astounding stuff throughout, not least the freak-zone trip of Holy Ghost's 'Walking On Air', which sounds like the common denominator between Ibiza and Goa in their nascent days as party destinations. Don't sleep on the clattering funk of Exocet's 'Overdose' either, a seriously snappy groover with all kinds of oddball sampling going on.

Look no further than this quality split release for all the proof you need, as Lucas Croon threads Balearic, prog and trance together before the label bosses (Hektisch Sprengen DJs) weave some mystical mantras of their own and Dea revels in boxy Chicago jack crossed with Island boogie. It's an eclectic mix to be sure, with another three joints taking in uptempo proto-trance and anthemic emo-acid-breaks aplenty. On this 12", Eris Drew delivers the uplifting breakbeat celebration of "See You In Snow", while Edward takes things deeper with the tripped out minimal house groove of "Mind Loop". D. Hard To Breathe (6:44)
Review: If the smiley face clad centre label wasn't a sizeable enough clue, Happy Family is a new project from New York staples Eric Duncan and Justin Vandervolgen which sees the pair try their hand at acid house. Both are closely associated with disco edits of course, but if you've seen either DJ you'll know they are well up on all forms of dance music. This expertise is deployed perfectly on the two tracks here, with "Burnt" a relentless exercise in strobelit 303 madness that is a no brainer for the sweatiest part of a DJ set. They tone it down a bit on "Hard To Breathe" which despite the title is an altogether looser production with plenty of room between the tumbling drums and hypnotic lead synth lines.

Review: Anthony Georges Patrice's Ausblick label has trod a fine path over the course of its first five releases and the good work continues on its sixth outing which is a new various artists affair. It is Berlin based Ephem who kicks off with 'Dizzy' and all its bumpy beast and raw perc, then Koln's Hidden Sequence follows with 'Optical Drive' that is more stripped back and powered by warming sub bass. Anthony Georges Patrice himself then completes the hat trick with 'Easy To Love' (Tunnel Vision Mix) which over ten sublime minutes brings some more airy, double doit flavoured and has already been getting plays from Mosaic boss Steve O'Sullivan.

Review: Fabio Caria launches his new label, Hoops, as a means to explore the intersection of house and techno through a minimalist lens. The debut release is a collaboration with Hubble under the moniker Fabble and it's a fine one with three meticulously crafted tracks that manage to perfectly balance compelling rhythms with plenty of synth-based introspection. 'Catharsis' introduces a three-note Rhodes piano sequence with flowing pads and psychedelic synths and 'Donald' offers a steady 4/4 beat with sombre pads and powerful sub-bass. 'Persignis' with Italian legend Claudio PRC is the most dancefloor-driven with processed pianos creating an emotional mood and in all, this EP sets a nice high watermark for the Hoops label.

Review: New label Alt Dub debuts with this drop from Federsen and Hidden Sequence, who operate in different formations across the four tracks to spell out some supremely reduced, subliminal minimal techno. Their sound is schooled in the dub abstractions from labels like Background and ~scape, a little warm but ultimately reduced to an elegant murmur which becomes profound the harder you listen. Hidden Sequence's 'Switch' has a steady-ticking thrust while Federsen's 'Polarity' splashes around in deep chasms of delay and reverb, before they switch stance to remix each other in complementary ways.

Christian Fischer vs Hybrid - "I Know"
Christian Fischer - "Advanced Panorama"
Christian Fischer - "Clubtech"
Christian Fischer vs The Galan Picx - "Lights Go Down In Germany"
Review: Probably the best Definite release to date, this EP is bound to cause an uproar as Christian Fischer, Leipzig's synonym for inventive techno, dishes up an utterly delectable four tracker, all of which are the spot-on. The "Clubtech EP" opens with "I Know", a melancholic, slightly trancey anthem that drives the people beyond their usual selves as they delve into the wide spheres and sad lusting vocals courtesy of English producers, Hybrid, known for their monumental multi-instrumental take on nu-breaks. A track that's so full of grandeur it hurts. "Advanced Panorama" opens like a huge window to Christian’s soul. Deep, infective, layered and intricate like a meandering landscape, full of psychoactive bleeps, belches, and blimps. A trancey melodic trip, set adrift on memory bliss, that slowly grows into obscure electro mayhem. "Clubtech" is more basic, more down to earth, a real winner on the dancefloor as it's straightforward electro-house action with a driving groove and a gripping breakdown that lets the hair stand on end. The EP closes with the huge "Germany", a really great vocal track powered by the energetic poetry of Leipzig-based band, The Galanpix, who give this driving electro-house smasher a face. And it surely is one you can't get out of your head!

Review: REPRESS ALERT: In an age of over-information, it's refreshing to see Aurora Halal take her time with the Mutual Dreaming label, which notches up just its third release since launching in 2014. It's also the New York scene leader's first record in three years, and it's worth the wait. Some elements are familiar - Halal still has a keen instinct for heavy-hearted synth lines shaped out in bold curves, but the level of expression going into these tracks makes each one stand out like a striking painting. From the eerie mood of "Fattal 22" to the crunchy bleep workout "Nasty II", the character just oozes out of Halal's productions. With a remix from Wata Igarashi thrown into the mix as well, this is a record loaded with fresh and powerful takes on techno.

The Wild Oats and Forget The Clock boss is in superb form once again here across four new cuts of Technically Deep house. 'Sit In Dat' has its head amongst the stars and it's roughed up drums firmly planted on the floor. Review: Kyle Hall has been hailed as the new boy on the Detroit block for some time now, forgetting perhaps that he has been putting records out since he was 17 - some 15 years ago. The three tracks on the 'Baci Ballers' EP show he's capable of holding his own among the biggest of big hitters, taking house music and giving it a nicely grimy makeover that will ensure these beauties a place in many a techno set too. The title track has a triumphant, rampantly rampaging vibe to it, a throbbing, insistent bassline slapped down by meaty handclaps and brutal hi-hats. 'Big Moma Tech' adds a smattering of female vocal as bleeps and jazzy keys battle it out like Stevie Wonder and LFO having a jam. 'Ground Up Dub' completes the set, based around a panther-like bass keyboard riff that anchors the track while the rhythmic quotient surges and retreats gloriously. Three tracks that differ in everything but their playability and quality.

Here he arrives on Apnea in Spain with a searing new outing that combines his signature house and techno sound into emotive club music. 'The Cosmic Touch' is a busy, punchy track with high speed beats and twisted cosmic synths while 'Colbalt' is an intense brew made from more fizzing lines, electrically charged motifs and unrelenting but flappy techno drums. Regular collaborators Malin and Yaleesa have turned out plenty of joint 12"s in the past on Will & Ink and this very label, and they sound more comfortable and sonically aligned than ever on this mighty record. There's no messing with "Alpha Decay," a loose and lysergic dubby techno workout. "Tachyon" orbits a similar soundworld, but shears the fat away for a minimal palette that sounds powerful echoing around the ample space in the mix. "Muck" slips into freaky after hours house territory, and "Stocha" drops a massive Basic Channel dub techno chord around a whisper of a beat to devastating effect.

Review: Halvtrak is hardly prolific - this EP is just his fourth solo vinyl outing in a decade - but what he does release is invariably excellent. The Finnish producer's trademark sound is rooted in the past, referencing British breakbeats, ambient techno, bleep, Motor City futurism and Chicago house, but always sounds fresh, pleasingly melodic and analogue rich. Opener 'X-Pressed' is probably the most peak-time ready of the strong bunch of tracks on show, with glassy-eyed chords and spacey melodies riding a thrusting bassline and sweaty breakbeats, though the house-tempo melodic techno strut of 'Rhythm Overture' pushes it close. Elsewhere, 'Phase Distorshun' is a more angular, deeper and lo-fi techno excursion, while 'Doubt' sounds like a cross between deep bleep minimalism and hypnotic, mid-90s Detroit techno.

This 33rd such outing comes from Per Hammar who offers a trio of irresistible grooves. 'Everybody hz' kicks off with rubbery drums and bass intertwining with each other while wonky synths up top add some tripped-out feels. A Varhat adds a little extra bounce and urgency to this silky late-night hypnotiser and then it's back to Hammar for 'The Danish URL'. It's a hooky groove with warped pads rippling up top while closer 'Arkivo' is a more textural and abstract affair with a nice dubby undercurrent.

On B-side we find the smooth melodic "Volcanics" at 118 BPM while fellow swede Martinez deconstructs Sensus into a jazzy, mellow piece of minimal tech.

Conscious Movement (Marcus Meinhardt Winter Games remix)
Conscious Movement (DJ Emerson Spinclub remix)
Review: Micro.fon brings you the solo debut of Harada with his single 'Conscious Movement'. Already published on labels like Leftroom or Bluefin he is no stranger to the game with his
very own minimal wiggling techno funk in best sound quality. The original track convinces with delicious sound design and wonderful little surprises in the tracks
structure. The main chord theme shines through from time to time and finally breaks through with more and more effects until everything is driven back down to a minimal and crispy groove.
stunning remixes by DJ Emerson and Marcus Meinhardt.

Review: Hardfloor are back on Kill Brique. "The boys wrote me an exclusive track not available anywhere else and I must say they did a great job! "Screwdriver" is already into all my sets and it's a storm everytime I play it - pure Hardfloor madness between house & techno. Never knew a screwdriver could be a weapon of mass destruction! On the flip you'll find "Murano" - they called the track after the name of the hotel where I put them when they played the Kill Brique parties in Paris. This hotel has something special, so is this track which has been a favourite of mine for months - no need to say this release is a priority to me - Hardfloor will always doing it !" Brique Rouge boss David Duriez!

Escape On The Midnight Express (Hardway Bros mix) (8:03)
Escape On The Midnight Express (Masonic Noodles mix) (9:28)
Review: Echoes of Glory serves up a second helping with the assistance of Hardway Brothers and Masonic Noodles aka Sean Johnston and label founder Grant Dell. 'Escape On The Midnight Express' gets two tidy tech house versions with distinct flavours which should appeal to those who like their 4/4 grooves tripped-out and headsy. The Hardway Bros version is a pneumatic, boxy workout swathed in dub and rolling slow and steady for the warm-up crowd, while Dell's Masonic Noodles interpretation takes a sparser approach sprinkled with mystical synth motifs to send a chill through the dance.

Review: Another new face is welcome at the Weavery. Marcus Hartmann from Berlin takes us on a trip deep into his micro melodic housing area. Two perfect tracks to lift up everybody at anytime! After checking Mr Hartmann's Demo CD, The Weave-Lab Crew had no doubt, this sound definitely fits not just for one specific genre of techno music, it's a style crossing weapon! We found just the best ingredients giving a high-quality tune that will make the crowd freak out. No matter if you're on a dark clubs' dancefloor late at night or at a big open air festival under the melting sun - this one works!

Review: Hashman Deejay is one of many aliases used by Vancouver's Tanner Matt, who returns under the alias for the first time in a couple of years on Salik's Counter 99 label - which is back in action after a four year hiatus. The long awaited offering comes in the form of the deeply ethereal techno of "Drum Star" that is awash in celestial synth textures with a simple kick beneath it - all together creating a truly meditative feeling. Over on the flip, you have the hypnotic percussive tool techno of "House Rockers" borrowing from Todd Terry and Pal Joey to wonderful effect.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve split but otherwise in excellent condition***

Tokyo-based independent label Infodump follows up its inaugural EP with a new release from owner Takuro Hasumi. 'Ticktack' opens his account with lithe, droning synth lines which are layered up next to organic percussion and dark bass energy that keeps you on edge. 'Wilderness' then flips the script with a much more bright and trippy melodic mix over minimal drums and last of all is 'The Fall'. This one is another intriguing mix of silvery synth shimmers and stripped-back drum programming that locks you in the moment. The fresh EP comes with fresh artwork from Japanese outsider artist Pinksk.

Review: If you were around in 2008 when Hauntologists released their debut 12" you'll likely always check out what they're up to with each release. As it transpired Hauntologists is Jay Patrick Ahern of Cheap & Deep Productions and Bureau B's Stefan Schneider. They've released one record a year since 2008 (with silence in 2011 and 2012) and since returning in 2013 they've hooked up with Modular Cowboy, a label which flies well under the radar. For uber minimal techno - that's slightly techy, subtly dubbed-out, trippy, and stripped down - give these guys a go!

Review: Here is the second vinyl only instalment from FarFromNormal records, with a fantastic 4 track EP from the young upcoming producer Jamie Haus, This record hold's 3 original tracks from Jamie and a amazing remix from the young Romanian Groovesh. This record has a totally different vibe compared to the labels first release with a much heavier techno roll. "Mattur" is a good example of this, whilst "Inter" finds Jamie Haus on a much darker, dub vibe. "Meiose" Is packed with a fantastic rolling kick with atmospheric noises in the back, whilst the Groovesh remix comes with that brilliant Romanian touch that everyone is asking for.

Radar (Michael Mayer remix)
Review: Fat Cat usher in the first of two Hauschka-gets-the-remix-treatment EPs that precede an autumn release of a full album's worth of remixes based around the German producer's acclaimed 2011 LP Salon des Amateurs. On the basis of the artists chosen here, Fat Cat are preparing to unleash a real gem of a remix project, with Ricardo Villalobos once again collaborating on a remix, as "A Cube" is transformed into a typically abstract minimalist composition that dissects the orchestral elements of Hauschka's production into mere shards that sit in the backdrop of a spritely little groove. Complementing this, Kompakt boss Michael Mayer comes through with an excellently paced remix of "Radar" which seemingly takes a glorious age to fully blossom but sounds so melodically enriching when it does.

Havana - "Eclypse" (5:45)
Sigma Tibet - "Rotom" (4:45)
Review: Mineral Cuts once again comes through with a big house reissue this time with one cut each by Havana and Sigma Tibet. On the A-side is Havana's 'Eclypse', a turbocharged, rave-influenced and retro banger with massive drums, acid lines and glossy, euphoric pads all bring the party like it was 1991. Sigma Tibet's 'Rotom' is also indebted to the old school with its neat piano chords but this one is more smooth and zoned out, with rubbery kicks and a far-sighted feeling of dreaminess. Two classics for the collection for sure.

Proper impressively synaptic dub techno from The Hague, by virtue of producer Havantepe. Eschewing the tired old trope of smoke-blowing biographical information in favour of a cyberpunk short story, this artist-adept evidently knows how to construct a vision both in sound and theme. From the back-to-back offs of 'Strong Force' and 'Muon', we're met with twin fidgeting visions in minimal techno and cleanly ballistic dub, neither of which betray a hesitancy to pack much effect modulation nor contrast between elements into the mix. The EP's appended fantasy of hoverbikes and antigravity weapons only adds to the sense of bleak, silica-veined determination, as we move into the shufflier undersides constituted by 'Zero-G' and Basicnoise's remix of 'Strong Force', both of which provide glimpses into the underbelly of Havantepe's singularity-razed underworld.

Review: Head High is a ling running alias of Polish techno producer Shed. It's for his more loopy and emotional sounds and has always been popular with DJs. This new EP is a mighty fine return that offers three track sou steamy, summer ready action for sunset and sundown sessions. 'Break Away' has fizzing synth lines and dusty drums with well placed vocals up top. 'Push It!' comes on much stronger, with harder drums and more prickly percussion but another fine vocal that adds that touch of emotion. Last of all is 'Chamber No 6', another dark cut with tightly programmed drums loops, scratching hits and a menacing bassline backlit by diffuse chords.

Review: Polish producer Shed also works as Head High where he makes house-infused sounds with brilliant drum designs and fizzing synth lines. '2nd Hand Bassline ' typifies his sound with low slung drums and swirling synths, smart vocals and plenty of heat for the floor. 'Agatha' is a soulful sound with a lush vocal and more paired back beats that build around a melancholic lead. The same cut then comes as a dirt mix which is more sleazy and club-ready. All three of these are unique weapons.
