Review: IBR001, 'Al-Andalus' is a perfect example of the Mediterranean sound being developed by 23Hz + Numaestro. Starting with a vocal
sample from Moroccan music, the introduction is joined by an accordion type riff - curiously sounding not too dissimilar to Augusto Pablo's
distinctive melodica sound - which leads to the drop. Here a massive sub-bass with stabbing mid-frequencies enters the fray, which drives
the track along with skanking half-step beats which have plenty of spring-reverbed snares and slicing hats. The heavily effected sampled
voice is placed in the mix to give extra atmosphere whilst the opening riff leads us to a semi-drop which leaves just the sub before
proceeding to a false drop before the riff and sample are introduced once again which finally take the track into its homestretch. This track
oozes distinctive character and is guaranteed to smash the dancefloor as well as provide a deep meditative vibe. Road tested by Numaestro
on dubplate, it has levelled dances right across Spain and beyond, as well as being picked up by many of the DJs on Sub FM and figuring
in many of the top tens of DJs in the dubstep community over recent months. You are advised not to sleep on this one.
Starting with a vocal sample from Algerian music - a short introduction leads to the drop. Then a rampaging descending scale bass line
comes into play, set against tight stepping swinging beats. This track is built around the b-line and beats which are given junglesque details.
High strings and atmospheric fx, together with the vocal sample are spliced into the tune to give texture. The tune works through another drop
and then proceeds to a breakdown. After which the bass line is reversed - designed to surprise the dancefloor - before returning to the
original groove and final climax. This is an exercise in energetic bass n beats, referencing early jump -up jungle [without any of its
predictable excesses] and two-step swing - given the trademark 23Hz+Numaestro Mediterranean twist. A real goodtime club banger
- this tune has been a fixture in Numaestro's DJ sessions proving to be a crowd favourite.

Review: A Mountain of One pair off in a versus battle with dub maestro and longtime studio wizard Dennis Bovell for new dub versions of 'Custard's Last Stand.' This is the first new music from A Mountain of One in a decade and it marks the inaugural release on their new AMORE label. This tune was recorded over Skype during the pandemic and shows that the pairing of Mo Morris and Zeben Jameson and have lost nothing since we last heard from them - it is snaking atmospheric, deep dub with plenty of heady pads and cinematic designs. Review: A Rocket In Dub returns to Krachladen Records in the same month that he appears on a split 12" with Graph. This time he has put together four 7"s that explore his famously dubby, minimal sound. Each cut is a precise experiment in sound, with icy hits and liquid chords washing over you while various different dub moods percolate below. There are incidental jams that encourage your mind to wander, then more dense and intense cuts of late night menace. It is another accomplished work in the catalogue of a dub technician who has been on top of his game for years.

Review: Back in the early 2000s, Stefan Schwander (better known these days for his Harmonious Thelonious project) released a handful of fine 12" singles as A Rocket In Dub that successfully blurred the boundaries between minimal house and dub techno. Here, one of the series' most renowned cuts, 'Rocket No. 3', is revisited. Like the 2002 original mix, the A-side version is a hypnotic, softly spun delight, with echoing organ motifs, bubbly electronics, opaque synth sounds and new spoken word snippets (provided by fellow German artist Jan Delay) gently rising above a deep, dubby bassline and sparse, shuffling tech-house beats. Over on the flip, there's a dub style 'Version' mix that takes the track further into vintage Rhythm & Sound territory.

Review: Here's a precious reissue of a 12" single by Abbashantie (not to be confused with UK sound system giant Aba Shanti) and Neville & Jerry. Both were Jamaican reggae vocal duos who recorded for Wackie's, a still-going-strong US label and studio founded by Lloyd Barnes aka Wackie's or Bullwackie. The single was originally released in 1980 and features two utter groundshakers: 'Break Down The Walls' by Abbashantie and 'Abbashantie Rock' (with Wackie's Rhythm Force).
