The revered deep house master Fred P opens up with some texture spiritual synth depths, K-Lone brings some nice house swing to his version of 'Paline' and edit maestro Rahsaan also keeps it paired back and late night on his soulful take on 'Scent Of An Old Life'. A great reimagining of some moving musical adventures, then.

Review: Two years ago, UK techno mainstay Gabriel made his bow on Rawax's Motor City Edition series with an EP of cuts drawn from his seemingly endless archive of unreleased gems. We're not sure whether the four tracks on this belated sequel are old and new, but they're certainly timeless-sounding and impressively deep. Check first 'Mordax', an impeccable mixture of Motor City star-gazing and analogue deep house blessed with a ridiculously good bassline, before admiring the sun-splashed warmth of 'The Multicoloured Mind', where jazzy piano motifs, sustained synth-strings and warming chords dance atop a loose-limbed house-not-house beat. Over on the B-side 'It's All Pam's (Marseille)' is another gorgeous chunk of ageless deep house bliss, while 'Into Week Two' sees Gabriel once again blur the boundaries between Detroit techno and futurist deep house tropes.

Review: Not content with delivering one of last years biggest techno moments with two superlative takes on Carl Craig's seminal "At Les" Christian Smith turns his hand to another deity of the techno realm in Laurent Garnier. In tandem with Brazilian techno icon Wehbba, they drop two alternate versions of Larry's iconic late nineties track "Flashback" with the 3am mix teasing out that distinctive bassline with such panache before it drops with an immensity that Garnier himself was moved to comment "This mix is f*cking brilliant, I LOOOVE IT I will hammer it everywhere LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS" You can't get a higher recommendation than that! The flipside remake remains truer to the original track but is sort of overshadowed by the intensity of the A Side.

Review: A heavy breakbeat workout with a series of hard-hitting mixes, Absinthe definitely lives up to the title. General Midi's mix chops up samples in a ruthless way, all the while letting synths bubble away over some chunky drums. Matos's mix takes a more disco approach and lets the vocal run, while System 22's mix is a white noise-fest complete with glitchy beats to ramp up the tension. It's a real quality EP that takes you to the heart of the Motor City with 'Easy Strider' blending low-slung, skittering drum patterns with a classic FM bass line and hints of 303. 'Acid Hole' offers an acidic pulse that builds tension over a jacking 707 beat that is brought to life with spacey effects and on the B-side, 'You're In Danger' merges dissonant pads, plucky synths, rich bass and warped verbal warnings. The record closes with Eric's reimagined version of 'A House of My Own' which brings fresh textures to a modern Chicago house classic.
