Love Drums Massacre
Cat: NON 059. Rel: 28 Feb 24

Techno
Rare Ceremony Tapes (6:08)
Love Drums Massacre (5:18)
Bad-Tempered Drumming (5:46)
Camaradas (5:42)
Review: Architectural (Juan Rico) is blazing a trail in the world of techno now for over two decades now. The productive producer (also known as Reeko) has managed to keep the quality high while releasing quite a bit of material. With over 40 releases to his credit, the Love Drums Massacre shows us he still has much more to give. The title track is a spooky tribal workout that reminds us of classic material by Kenneth Graham or David Alvarado. We really enjoy the primitive and caveman-like feel of these slow-burners. Camaradas is a sick loop! For the Spanish label Non Series, this is number 59 in their consistently great catalogue. Wicked EP!

Always Silver, Never Gold (5:59)
Bees Crave (5:49)
Spill The Mill (4:47)
Crawler (6:46)
Mea K7 (5:12)
Review: Non Series welcomes Biri and Yogg who have paired off here for the first time ever on a superb six track collaborative EP. These are high impact cuts of body-slamming techno with deep synths and sleek rhythms. 'Always Silver, Never Gold' kicks off with a warped and elastic underwater rhythm packed with atmosphere while 'Bees Crave' ups the ante with heady and rusty loops. 'Spill The Mill' is a murky and grubby dubbed out roller while 'Crawler' looks into a train track like groove. 'Mea K7' closes with a more heady and celestial vibe.

Frequenza (5:18)
Energia (5:37)
Kaleidoskop (5:34)
Voodoo Magic (5:42)
Apnea (6:11)
Goccia (2:58)
Review: D Leria (Giuseppe Scaccia) leaves us delirious yet again with another frontline hypnotiser EP for Non. This sextet of sound-scanners seem at first glance as deliciously want of emotion as any release on Non ever gets, and yet through D Leria's characteristic sound, we hear an EP unafraid to scrape against the emotive skysill, though not before a transition through the wacky. The A2 'Energia' pits wriggly lead whirls about sprung kicks, and 'Kaleidoskop' veers gooier, spraying an array of cephalopod ink-squirtings on the surround mix. We return to Brum techno arcana with 'Voodoo Magic', while the ambient highlight 'Apnea' is likely to be the most "melodic techno" vibe ever released on Non, teasing the leaden cheese whilst technically getting away with a more suspensory roller. Closer 'Goccia', finally, is the closing masterclass in sensory sapping and tactile tongue-tying, foreclosing on beats in favour of low pulsations against which giant laser-neurons spark like thunder overhead.

Lopsidedness

Techno
Modus Operandi (6:14)
Parallel Binary (6:11)
Weird Attractions (6:42)
Moving Trees (5:17)
The Denier (5:50)
Review: Distant Echoes's 'Lopsidedness' is a second solo entry into this non series and once again he shows how he has mastered the art of techno hypnosis. 'Modus Operandi' is a fat dub cut with drums buried deep but quick to make their mark as synths fizz and ripe across the surface of the menacing groove. 'Parallel Binary' is another dub cut with an implicit sense of tension that keeps you on edge while 'Weird Attractions' begins to play tricks on your mind with its freaky sound designs and distant bell hits. 'Moving Trees' is another wonky one for the afters before 'The Denier' gets back to warm future dub scapes.

Review: Techno connoisseurs don't need selling on the quality of the Non Series out of Spain. Next up to make their mark on it is Valentino Mora with another sublime exploration of deep and minimal techno. All four of these are rhythmically supple and hugely captivating - the way the artists can get so much feeling out of so few sounds is mesmeric - the percussion is the icing on the cake and the perfect drum programming the solid and sophisticated foundations that lock you in for the ride, and what a ride it is. Another top-class outing from this label.

Absolute Zero (6:11)
20kv (6:04)
Spark Gap (6:22)
Bronze (6:08)
Review: Orbe's Absolute Zero on Non Series Records offers a thrilling dive into underground, sci-fi techno that keeps you locked in from start to finish. The title track, 'Absolute Zero,' sets the tone with its menacing, hard-hitting beats, layered with an alien, sci-fi edge that feels otherworldly. It's the kind of track that grips you with its intensity. '20kv' follows, delivering a relentless, percussive assault that adds even more weight to Side-1. On Side-2, 'Spark Gap' is a heavy, tension-filled builder that delivers a powerful punch. Finally, 'Bronze' wraps things up with a sick, soundtrack-like vibe, offering a cinematic close to this intense collection. Fans of hard, sci-fi-infused techno will enjoy Orbe's ability to craft tracks that are both intense and detailed.

Untitled (7:19)
Tagma (6:36)
OSI Model (6:44)
Liquid Drop (6:25)
Review: Psyk and Orbe are on a releasing roll, this being the next EP in a new saga by the duo. 'Tagma Sessions' hears the ultra-suffocating techno pair drop a deafening four new tracks, displaying their penchant for hardware-centrism and oppressive sonic environments. 'Liquid Drop' hears acid flagellations and oozings burst from between the hits, while 'Tagma' recalls the scraping textures of Regis' later work. 'Untitled' is the favourite - a machinic scourer that sounds much like a lone drone traversing the wastes in search of organic dissenters.

Ritmo Oscuro 1 (6:11)
Ritmo Oscuro 2 (4:53)
Ritmo Oscuro 2 (LDS remix) (4:13)
Ritmo Oscuro 3 (5:42)
Review: Hailing from Spain's Non Series label, Ritmo Oscuro' offers a diverse techno exploration. Sciahri / Conceptual join forces to delve deep into the title track and evolve it enough to make alternate versions stand on their own. The original track oozes sci-fi ambiance with its heavy beat and eerie atmosphere. 'Ritmo Oscuro 2' shifts towards a more aggressive, energy-building tech sound. LDS' remix brings broken beats and distinctive sound effects. Finally, 'Ritmo Oscuro 3' transports listeners to the 90s with its ravey, linear techno. If you are looking for some percussive, sci-fi techno then look no further then this.

Maracuja (6:41)
Maracuja (Valentino Mora Underwater Rephase) (7:09)
Hainan Cham (7:23)
Cherry Tree (5:05)
Review: We're suckers for a back to basic white label techno 12" and that is exactly what Non Series in Spain has made an art of. This 15th such offering is from Tauceti and is a deep and heady offering for late-night sessions where you want your melon to be twisted inside out. 'Maracuja' has steamy jungle atmospheres over linear drums and slimy bass while Valentino Mora's Underwater Rephase makes it all the more aquatic and dubby. 'Hainan Cham' is a suspensory cut with sustained cosmic pads and plenty of vast emptiness to explore while 'Cherry Tree' is another economical bit of techno minimalism with serene drones and pads.

Twin Demons (6:03)
Spiral (5:25)
Aztlan (5:37)
Sorcery (6:15)
Review: Non Series welcomes back core family member Luigi Tozzi for what is his third EP on the label. This time out he offers his most mature sounds yet across four fantastic cuts. The first is a stripped back, tunnel vision techno roller with pulsing synths and deep cosmic sonar sounds. 'Spiral' is just as perfectly paired back, this time with soft shakers and a warped synth lead accompanying the smooth drums. 'Aztlan' has a haunting late night feel and paranoid sense of menace while 'Sorcery' rocks back and forth on unbalanced drums that are dubby and delightful.

Spiral (Rrose remix) (6:54)
Aztlan (Refracted remix) (6:01)
Sorcery (Psyk remix) (5:14)
Suspiria (Evigt Morker remix) (6:14)
Review: One of the Italy's best human exports is Luigi Tozzi - world-renowned for his deep, nuanced and hypnotic techno zeniths. Among the many labels he's released his music with over the years, perhaps none have lent him such a home as Spain's Non, who also released Tozzi's last album Spiral over three years ago. Finally, we hear once more from Tozzi and Non with a remix EP of the incredible, dizzying title track from the LP. Four of the Non Series label's finest - Rrose, Refracted, Psyk and Evigt Morker - lend a range of shuffly, wonky, hazy, acidic, and even broken takes on the fractalizing original; Morker's is our highlight, as it's the most daring, doubly and melodic of the lot.

Head Hunt (5:57)

Atlatl (6:19)
Obsidian (5:59)
Review: At more than a decade old and now 60 releases deep, Non Series is one of techno's most consistent and reliable outlets. Luigi Tozzi has been responsible in part for that and now returns to the label with his fourth solo outing, hot on the heels of 'Spiral' which proved a big underground hit. As always the sone is masterfully deep and atmospheric yet minimal. 'Head Hunt' is a swaggering dub techno cut for the heads, 'Strati' gets more psychedelic with soupy synths and neon tones, and 'Atlatl' rolls deep on spine-chilling rhythms. 'Obsidian' is a perfectly smooth and seductive sound for cosy back rooms.

Shadow Of The Comet (6:18)

Twilight (6:51)
God's Flesh (6:08)
Review: Troy returns to Non Series White with another formidable four track EP, Slow Burn. Highlights include the standout track, 'Shadow Of The Comet,' which takes listeners on a driving techno journey infused with sci-fi and spacey elements, submerging them in a cosmos of strange and unique sounds. On Side-2, 'Twilight' presents a deeper, ominous, and moody builder that rises from the depths, setting a primal landscape on a planet far away. Closing the EP is 'God's Flesh,' offering an otherworldly dance experience with its fresh take on techno, incorporating unique space sounds and deeper grooves. This record is equally for the budding techno listener or the veteran one looking for something next level.

Blaze It (5:54)
Nico's Bass (5:19)
Bein Noodle (6:38)
Twice The Rice (7:42)
Review: Israeli artist Yogg first elbowed his way onto the map by not merely spewing forth ceaseless bangers, but also by co-founded the Parallax label with fellow techno artist Pharaoh. Here, though, he takes a detour to release on the esteemed Non, dropping four weirdo atmossy techno numbers via a label who don't take kindly to anything remotely unsubtle or underproduced. On 'Twice The Rice', we hear A-siders 'Blaze It' and 'Nico's Bass' play back like two sides of the same divine coin, the former working a sort of mouthy filtered synth through endless sleets, and the latter removing it, revelling in atmospheric knocks and gargantuan sonic cavities opening up. 'Bein Noodle' maddens things on the B, as our ears float unwittingly into a perfect psychedelic factoryscape; 'Twice The Rice' unsettles and unnerves, as we edge towards its generative core.
