Review: Colkin from Raw Soul and Mauke Club sets the tone on this new FUTUR compilation, which has been curated by Benedikt Meger with a spherical acid house meditation. Peter Seiler's track, a standout from the reissue of his debut album Flying Frames, features Sheryl Hackett's soulful vocals and merges song structure with jazz improvisation. Eoism from Pulse Drift, Undersound, and Inch By Inch delivers low-swung electro flavours perfect for sunset vibes while the B-side opens with Voertuig of Tonal Oceans and Cobra Club who presents a seriously raw acid jam followed by an experimental, jazzy piece, reminiscent of the 90s downtempo era. 'Eoism' closes things with a floating, futuristic banger, going to make a well rounded (in more ways than one) and ultimately very useful piece of vinyl.

Review: Arthur Baker is the perfect host for this new series from Demon Music which focuses on the famous extended remixes of the 80s. Each series will be a multi-disc, various artist collection that is united by one remixer, and there can be few better to kick it off than the legend that is Shep Pettibone. He was a hugely in demand studio hand who reworked multiple genres and everyone from Pet Shop Boys to Duran Duran, New Order to Level 42, George Michael to Erasure. This ambitious, widescreen collection takes in all manner of golden remixes from the world of soul, pop, synth and more.

Review: The art of the remix is no doubt indebted to NYC legends such as Shep Pettibone and Arthur Baker. It's quite fitting then that the latter should curate some of the greatest moments of the former on part two of The Classic 12 Inch Master Mixes Volume One. Pettibone's innovative approach to remixing throughout the '80s and early '90s has had a lasting impact on dance music. Featured on here are his renditions of B B & Q's '(I'm A) Dreamer' where he gets that perfect late night boogie-down vibe in effect, as well as Lionel Richie's classic 'Love Will Conquer All', perfectly streamlining the groove of The Salsoul Orchestra's 'Ooh, I Love It (Love Break)' and lending his deft hand to First Choice's anthemic 'Let No Man Put Asunder' among many others.

Review: Woody Bianchi, renowned funk digger and DJ, embarks on yet another archaeological record collection excavation, unearthing yet another volume of badass funk from the adjacent era of disco that emerged in the 70s and 80s. This is an in depth compilation series to say the least: the tracks are all examples of funk greats which reflected certain motifs from the disco explosion that came after it - even "James Brown had to take notice of the Saturday Night Fever". Several hard-to-find gems appear among ubiquitous classics, among extensive liner notes by Woody himself.

Review: Andy Smith's Reach Up - Disco Wonderland Vol. 3 continues his exploration of the "Discosphere" with 16 more and one again carefully curated tracks. Featuring artists like Buscrates, Trailer Limon, and Rena Scott, the compilation also includes stellar edits and remixes by Full Intention, Yam Who, and Skratch Bastid. Initially curated during pandemic lockdowns and inspired by virtual DJ sets, Andy continues to share his superb collection via the legendary BBE Music label and once again this triple vinyl LP offers a treat for DJs, collectors and audiophiles alike.

Review: Bristolian turntablist and crate digger Andy Smith has long been renowned for the depth of his funk, soul and hip-hop selections, though it's only in recent years that we've discovered the quality and diversity of his disco collection. He continues to flex those credentials on the third instalment in his Reach Up - Disco Wonderland series. While there's plenty of obscurity on show, as you'd expect, Smith has chosen to include contemporary nu-disco cuts and fresh re-edits alongside vintage picks. So, while we cuts from The Sunshine Band, the disco-highlife of Orlando Julius and some late 70s electro-disco courtesy of French outfit Quartz, we're also treated to fresher tracks and edits from BB Soul, Birdee and Nick Reach Up, Yam Who and Full Intention. Throw in a killer DJ mix of the same material by Skratch Bastid and you have a genuinely essential collection.

Review: Sabadell is a town in Spain that is renowned for its distinctive 1980s up-tempo, harmoniously synthesised take on disco. Known as the Sabadell Sound, it evolved from the pioneering and earliest Italo disco scene and featured key artists like David Lyme, Squash Gang, and Jules Tropicana. This two-sided vinyl megamix comes presented in vibrant orange vinyl and showcases the talents of DJ Funny and The Mixing Boys. In the iconic Spanish Max-Mix style, these mixes are true works of art and each side offers over 18 minutes per of hi-nrg and Eurodisco perfection that will bring great colour and charm to any party. his release is a must-have for fans both new and old of the Sabadell Sound.

Review: Despite the universal imposition of lockdown, DJ Harvey's Mercury Rising nights have made a lasting impression on one particular Ibizan hideaway - the world-renowned rock n' roll themed hotel, Pikes, a favourite of Ibiza titans Fatboy Slim and Patrick Topping. To keep the spark of this monthly party alive, Harvey launched his 'Mercury Rising' compilations, putting only the best of Ibiza's balearic talents on display. The third and final volume is now finally in our mitts, and what an impressive array: odysseys of aquatic, twanging sound come courtesy of choice cuts by local mainstays Kraak & Smaak, Project Sandro and MODE.

Review: If you're looking for a bumper collection of chart bothering and ever-popular 80s disco then look no further than this. Blanco Y Negro has assembled no fewer than three whole CDs worth of the stuff and managed to include every sub-genre imaginable. Pop disco, hi-nrg, Italo disco, 80s house, nu-disco and plenty in between are all covered with aplomb. There are stone-cold classics like The Human League's 'Don't You Want Me', Grandmaster Flash & Melle Mel's 'White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)' and The Human League's 'Don't You Want Me' as well as a few equally fun but slightly less ubiquitous jams.

Review: For the last decade, John Gomez and Nick The Record's freewheeling Tangent parties have proved popular in London, offering dancers the chance to shake their stuff to a wide selection of superb (and normally insanely rare) records over a high quality soundsystem. The pair's first Tangent compilation, which arrives via Mr Bongo, naturally offers a superb reflection of their approach and is packed with must-have cuts. For proof, check the proto-house era dubbed-out boogie of King B's 'Love Is Crazy', the sun-splashed Brazilian gorgeousness of 'Laberinto' by PERIKAS, the spaced-out headiness of Hidrogenese's 'La Carta Era Muy Larga (Dub)', the heavy batacuda business of 'Nira Gongo' by Conjuto Baluartes' and the dub disco-flecked, deep house brilliance of LTA's 'What Comes To Ya'.

Review: Sean Johnston curates a compilation that feels as much like a love letter to a bygone era of cosmic and chugging dance music as it does a blueprint for the future. Across this translucent red vinyl double LP, he assembles a narrative that stretches from the dub-tinged grooves of Weatherall-inspired rhythms to rich, enveloping basslines rooted in the darker corners of the dancefloor. These selections capture the ethos of A Love From Outer Spaceinot a style, but a sensibility, where tempo slows and subtlety reigns. Review: Defected's House Masters series tribute to Frankie Knuckles is being released as two double LPs, but it could have easily been four or five, such is the quality of the tracks and remixes that the 'Godfather of House' produced during his lifetime. Naturally this second and final part is full to bursting with colourful, tactile and wonderfully saucer-eyed classics - many familiar, some slightly less so - which deserve a place in your collection. Picking highlights is naturally tough, but for proof of Knuckles' unassailable musical majesty and dancefloor magic it's hard to beat the Sound Factory mix of 'The Whistle Song', the low-tempo house bliss of his remix of Inner City's 'Whatcha Do With My Lovin', the Satoshi Tomiie/Robert Owens hook-up 'Tears' and his incredible revision of Electribe 101's 'Talking With Myself'.

Review: It's been a long time coming, but finally Defected's producer and remixer-focused House Masters series has turned its attention to the undisputed Godfather of House himself, the late, great Frankie Knuckles. This first part (of two) fittingly opens with the track that originally set out his melodious, warm, colourful and loved-up trademark sound, the Jamie Principle collaboration 'Your Love', before flitting between genuine anthems (legendary remixes of Loose Ends' 'Hangin' On a String' and 'Blind' by Hercules and Love Affair, the sleazy, acid house-era 'Baby Wants To Ride', the exceptional 'Hallucinogenic Mix' of Chaka Khan's 'Ain't Nobody') and arguably more overlooked gems (the garage-house wonders that are his remixes of Adeva and Sounds of Blackness).

Review: As part of a new glut of music from Mr. Bongo comes this new curator's compilation from Luke Una. Featuring tracks from Yusef Lateef, Airto Moreira, Crooked Man, Henri Texier and many more, Una collates these tracks under the umbrella of 'E-Soul Cultura' - a kind of nocturnal underground soul, disco and funk (both new and old) that the disenfranchised inheritors of the Earth prefer to play in their sleepy, tucked away home kitchens and lofts. A blend of Latinxfuturism, space-age jazz and all manner of folk exquisites appear - not to mention a slew of infectious house detours on the latter half.

Review: Orpheu The Wizard is a Dutch DJ and co-founder of the infamous but sadly now defunct Red Light Radio. Coming through for the fifth edition of the Sound Of Love International series - which showcases the eclectic musical tastes of the DJs who play at the Love International festival in Croatia - this fresh selectors' comp hears Orpheu crate-fiddle through cosmic disco, Balearic pop, synthwave and ambient, by the likes of Khidja, Benedek, Donato Dozzy and Gaussian Curve.

Review: Victor Simonelli's house music legacy is assured - he more than made his mark on the genre back in the 90s with plenty of iconic cuts and legendary DJ sets and now that is all being highlighted by this ongoing multi-part series from Unknwn. The comprehensive collection looks at the early years here with some of his top mixes including those that have not previously been released. There is an in-depth almost hour-long audio and written interview between BTG founder Alex Rose and Victor to go with this release that is well worth finding.

Review: Naya Beat Volume 2: South Asian Dance And Electronic Music 1988-1994 dives deep into finding rare tracks that showcase an overlooked chapter of South Asian sound. This collection highlights a unique period between 1988 and 1994, when vibrant cultural fusion emerged within diasporic communities in cities like New York and London. Following the success of Volume 1, which celebrated early 80s Balearic and synth pop, this second installment unveils a blend of house, street soul and downtempo gems, many of which have remained hidden until now. The New York spot laid out the template for glammed up nights out with dazzling disco soundtracks and it is that vibe which has inspired this new clear smoked gold vinyl double pack from Italian label Use Vinyl. 254 W 54th St New York NY 10019 United States: Music Inspired By Iconic '70 New York Club Studio 54 is a treasure trove of string-laced and richly melodic disco with gems from the likes of Bionic Boogie, Gloria Gaynor, Don Armado's Second Avenue Rhumba Band and more all making for a throwback party sound that is well worth reliving over and over again.

Review: The Disco Express's semi-regular vinyl outings mine the prolific label's extensive catalogue of digital-only EPs, offering up the strongest and most popular cuts. Here they deliver the label's official 'best of' selection for 2024, an album-length excursion with seven sizzling tracks on offer. There's naturally plenty to set the pulse racing and get the feet moving, from the Sylvester-style vocals and chunky disco-house grooves of Art of Tones' 'The Magic Count' and the expansive, jazz-flecked disco/deep house fusion of Moodena's rework of Mayrag's 'Poison For Us', to the Hi-NRG-tinged 21st century electrofunk flex of Luksek's 'Break For Dancers' and the slow-motion soulfulness of Rayowa's superb 'In The Sunshine'.

Review: Compassion Cuts Sins & Dollar Bins is a fully licence new compilation across four sides of vinyl in a nice gatefold package. It is the Second Chapter in the Compassion Cuts compilation series and it brings more forgotten, overlooked or hidden gems to light and in doing so spans a wide variety of genres, including gospel, house, zouk, experimental, techno, disco, folk, and electro. Each track showcases the diversity and creativity of the artists from Henry Hektik & Thomas W Sutter's lo-fi and eerie 'Missionary' to Kevin Owens's blissed out proto-house delight 'Starting Over Again.'

Review: There is no end to the amount of music that NOW has served up over its many years in the music business. From its thrice-yearly pop comps to its vast decades-long snapshots, it has always offered up the freshest pop hits in fulsome fashion. This latest collection, NOW That's What I Call 80s Dancefloor: Disco & Electro, is a double vinyl album on purple and pink wax that brings together the best disco and electro of the 80s. All the names you'd expect feature from Malcolm McLaren & The World's Famous Supreme Team to Shannon with Freeze, Chaka Khan and more also adding weight.

Review: French label Wagram is a go-to when it comes to quality compilations that take a broad look at certain sounds and scenes, and this one is an on-going series that focuses on house sounds with an Afro undertone. The grooves are lively and often come with plenty of percussion. The drums hit hard but with funk, the vocals are Afro-centric and plenty of irresistible hits come thick and fast from the jazzy tribal swagger of 'Imbalaye' to the big steel drum party sounds of 'Viet Dao' (Klement Bonelli & Yann DL remix). Another great collection of colourful Afro house sounds.

Review: Gomma played a vital role in the popularisation of the indie-dance explosion that happened some 20 years ago now. Best known for being spearheaded by US indie outfit LDC Sound system, it combined dance, disco, wave, post-punk and more into a party-ready sound that found favour with both ravers and guitar heads. This second collection from the German label highlights the best of music they put out back then with names like In Flagranti, label co-founder Munk, Nancy Whang & Bonar Bradberry and many more all present and correct.

Review: 'Latin Freestyle: New York Miami 1983-1992' is a double LP compilation curated by Bob Stanley covering the whole spectrum of Latin Freestyle, a genre that emerged in the early 80s as a fusion of electro, disco, house, and Latin music. Though Freestyle itself was a prominent fixture of the 1980s-90s New York scene particularly, relatively little is known of the genre's popularity in Latino communities at the time. Mitigating the risk of historic erasure, 16 tracks of enduring uniqueness - from the likes of Expose, Stacey Q, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, Debbie Deb, Connie, Cover Girls, Pretty Poison, Company B, Will To Power, Alisha, Lil Suzy, and Cynthia - all appear here, recalling genre's massive impact on the community and worlds beyond it.

Review: Henry Street Music is one of house music's foundational labels. From the mid-nighties onwards it has been behind some of the genre's most enduring hits and now on the occasion of its 30th anniversary, it celebrates all that rich history with a superb double vinyl album, Henry Street Music 1994-2024 (30th Anniversary Edition). It kicks off with an age old staple from The Bucketheads that is one of the most mis-sung tunes of all time (it's 'these sounds', not 'pizza') and then comes a loopy filter gem from Armand Van Helden. 'Ill Street Theme' from 95 North is a nice old school bumper and Jonnick's 'Play The World' is another good time delight

Review: The seventh and final installment of this vinyl series hones in on tracks that are sure to keep the dancefloor packed. Pressed on striking transparent blue and green vinyl, this 2LP set is a pulsating collection of club classics that defined the era's nightlife, bridging disco, funk, house, electro, pop and hip-hop into an irresistible sonic melting pot. Side-A starts off with winner and Inner City's euphoric house staple 'Good Life', setting the pace for an album steeped in dancefloor euphoria. Kym Mazelle and Robert Howard's soulful 'Wait' and Coldcut's 'People Hold On' with Lisa Stansfield show the decade's seamless blend of house and pop, while 'Pump Up The Volume' by M/A/R/R/S redefined sampling's role in dance music. S'Express's 'Theme from S-Express' and Bomb The Bass's 'Beat Dis' bring explosive energy, while Technotronic and Rob 'n' Raz keep the tempo high with their club anthems. Late-'80s remix culture shines as Chaka Khan's 'I'm Every Woman' get a modernised update while PWL's glossy, synth-driven touch on 'Sandra' shines brightly. 80s dance legends Bananarama and Samantha Fox are also have vital appearances to the collection. LP2 dives into hip-hop-infused dance with Soul II Soul's 'Back To Life', Ten City's deep-house masterpiece 'That's The Way Love Is' and Neneh Cherry's genre-defying 'Buffalo Stance'. The finale is pure club gold: 'The Only Way Is Up' by Yazz, the thunderous 'Blue Monday '88', and 'Fools Gold' by The Stone Roses. Closing with 808 State's 'Pacific State' and The Beloved's 'Sun Rising', Floorfillers is a flawless time capsule of dance music's late-80s evolution. This double pack is steeped in history while being an excellent range of styles that made the 80s so remarkable.
