Review: Multi-instrumentalist Abase and drummer/producer Ziggy Zeitgeist come together for this fantastic collaboration, which explores deep grooves tinged with everything from jazz to psyche, funk to afro. The voice of the South African singer Dumama lends epic cut 'Body Mind Spirit' a rare spirituality while on 'Elevation #1-2', it is more a deeply inward mood that melts your heart. There is a brilliant looseness to 'Phoenix Rising' as its drums and bass percolate like coffee, while 'Nuit Des To'eres' closes with a broken rhythm that keeps you every much on your toes.

Review: While it's difficult to second-guess what Placid will select for each volume of his We're Going Deep label's compilation-style EPs, you can guarantee that it will be timeless-sounding, exquisitely produced, and most likely have some link to deep house, electro, acid or sci-fi techno. All of those boxes are ticked and then some on volume eight, which skips between melodious, acid-flecked dancefloor wooziness (Affie and Leila Yusuf's 'Dublvr'), warming sunrise-ready electro bliss (Zobol's 'Sense The Consensus'), ultra-deep, eyes-closed acid electro (Acidulant's 'The View of Her Shade') and IDM-tinged, intergalactic and dramatically pitched-down proto-jungle (Type-303's exceptional 'Knowhere'). Like its predecessors, this EP is nothing less than essential.

Review: Global Essence Sampler is a new series from Deep Inspiration Show Records that calls upon a fine roster of international producer talent to serve up one track each and reflect on what deep house is today. For Allstarr Motomusic the answer is smooth and cruising house grooves with elastic basslines and distant vocal wails. Barce explores classic Larry Heard-style cosmic melodic territory with plenty of star-gazing potential, and Zarenzeit's 'Zahara' is another one that floats amongst the stars with lush ambient pads. Jank offers a more dusty, rhythmic house sound for cosy backroom parties, and then come the jazzy melodies and soulful bass noodling of Jan Kincl's '3300 Gratiot Ave.' Magic stuff.

Review: With their own unique pool of hitherto unfamiliar artists to draw upon, Project London have been doing a fine job a crafting an identity in the murky underbelly of minimal house music. On the label's fifth release they turn to a host of different artists to throw down the goods, including the moody low-end throb of Alsi's "Marea Captura" and the nervous shuffle of Ztrl's "Shining". There are some lighter moods to be found on Anestie Gomez's "Sketchagram", which shimmers with the kind of playful micro sampling that made Telegraph an essential label in the mid 00s, proving this is stripped down music with imagination and flair.

Review: For their second release, Clafooti Records give us with a multi-flavoured recipe. A-side, in a more Chicago-ish vein, sees ARK and WHITE PAPOO on the remix driving seat, both delivering bass-heavy blip house that any Derrick Carter fan will enjoy to the max. B-side take us much deeper inside the techno hole, as ZEF get it right for the huge warehouse sound systems. Techno to move ya ass to!

Review: Purple Print has become a strong player in the minimal scene in a short space of time, with the likes of Sepp, Delaj, Bisharat and Vid all offering their considerable wares into the growing catalogue since 2021. Their compilation 12" was just as on-point in 2023, and now they're back with a second volume which is not to be missed. Avidel leads the way with the seductive, vocal laced groover 'Someone', while Lukea follows up with a dub techno-tinted workout entitled 'Crescent Moon'. Octave and Nicolas Duvoisin do some smart r&b sampling for undulating roller 'Wanna Be Down' and Zenk creates a sparkling sunrise reverie with 'Dreaming In A Shell', a stripped back but detailed and distinctive workout which ends the record on a high note.

Review: Baby Ford and Zip continue a fruitful partnership with some uber cool, super deep minimal techno on Pal SL records. "Clean Hands" sees a hushed and soulful vocal wafting over atmospheric synth scratches, ultra low end bass and deft high end clicks and shuffles. "For How Long" is even more reduced, letting the space between the sparse sounds say as much as the sounds themselves. Truly unique sounds from this talented pair.

Review: Baby Ford and Zip locked themselves in the studio after January's "Get Perlonized" party in Berlin. The result is this 12" with two very special tracks. The a-side, entitled "The Riverbed" doesn't lack those subtle, humorous details that we already know from productions of this duo. The b-side offers a new, extended version of last years contribution for the "Superlongevity4" compilation entitled "Morning Sir".

Review: Deep Inspiration Show Records is back with a second part of its Global Essence Sampler and it is another 12" that offers great nourishment for mind, body and soul. Barce from Spain featuring Roger Versey opens up with some slow but heavy house grovers awash with rugged synth loops. Dan Piu's 'Ocean' is an aquatic and dubby roller for bliss doit vibes, and Zarenzeit taps into dreamy old school Italo house on 'Heard Echoes.' The same three artists appear in the same order on the flip with three other originals which tap into deeper Detroit schools of house, Balearic and electro stylings.

Review: UKG and dubstep originator Benny Ill launches Good 4 Ya with two exceptional originals and two equally heavyweight remixers. "Sugar" is as sweet as it sounds; spacious, laced with Chicago style house chords and a sexy sense of hypnosis before man like Zed Bias enters the fray and murks up the groove with a 2001-era squelchy bass and a bit of crushed break for good measure. Flip for the horsepowered 4x4 jam "Triple S". Thumping relentlessly into the light with more US-flavoured synth work, it's a tune you could just as easily imagine in Shelter back in the early 90s as you could in FWD in the early 2000s and any era since. The mighty El-B closes the show with more of a darker two-step twist while retaining the jazzy pep of the chords. Four cuts, three bonafide originators, one essential record.

Review: Baby Ford and Zip need little introduction and debut on Trelik as "BFZ" featuring co-conspiritor Thomas Melchior. The trio originally appeared on the 1999 "Perlondon" 12" for Perlon with Ford and Zip re-uniting for the "Glidin' Along The Riverbed" release then 2010's "Clean Hands" on PAL SL. Thomas Melchior recently appearing on [a:rpia:r] and his own Aspect Music kicks off the 12" with a floor friendly up-beat 9 minute "Melchior Productions LTD" edit remix of "Uff". An "Uffapella" closes the A-side featuring abstract sound design and textured vocals. Side-B's "So They Say" creates a feeling of space and unhurried rhythmatics whilst the title track "Uff" combines deep instrumentals, chord and haunting vox with subtle bass and modulating kick. Recorded in London and Berlin. Mastered at D & M.

Review: Biesmans' contribution to Watergate's mix series is made up entirely of his own previously unreleased productions, most of which were made in cahoots with friends and other like-minded artists. Because of this, the German label has decided to release two extensive vinyl samplers featuring the cream of these cuts. The Belgian indie-dance stalwart is in fine form throughout the first of these, with our picks of a very strong bunch including the new wave-tinged, cosmic-minded Shubostar hook-up 'Across The Universe', Zombies In Miami-sporting nu-disco throb-job 'Smooth Monday', breakbeat-driven neo-rave anthem 'All Day Every Day' and the EP-closing 'Away', where doP member Vandesande helps Biesmans channel the spirit of Vangelis' much-loved Bladerunner soundtrack.

Review: Sumptuous deep house sounds from South Africa courtesy of Black Coffee. Lead track "Juju" takes its name from the French word joujou, and refers to the supernatural power ascribed to an object or being, and on this occasion it seems the producer is referring to the hypnotic power of a woman. Richly textured instrumentation jingles below Zakes Bantwini's vocals for a truly moving deep house moment on the original version, while Halo & Atjazz team up for two remixes, with the oven warm chords and late night groove of the dub version taking the spoils.
