Meditation 4
Meditation 5
Meditation 6
Review: And so the Perlon Meditations continue... Late last year German producer Thomas Melchior made his first appearance on Perlon in some three years with the exquisite Meditations 1-3, which naturally channelled the iconic label's vibe perfectly. The first Perlon release of 2015 presents a further three Melchior produced Meditations, 4-6, with the opening track something of an understated epic. At 12 minutes long, "Meditation 4" demonstrates Melchior's craft for slowly building a groove, adding elements in a fashion that sounds subtle on headphones and deadly on a soundsystem. Face down, the 5th Meditation is an infectious little house groover, with hi hats and vocal samples jousting playfully whilst the closing track is a sub heavy number rich in vocal abstraction.

Like That
Jack's Back
Zoot
Review: First given his break by Steve Lawler's VIVA Music label three years ago, rising UK producer and selector SEFF (aka Joseph Saunders) steps up with his debut vinyl release, following a succession of digi-only wowwers in 2014. The fact his Jacks Back EP is being released by the Jamie Jones and Lee Foss run Hot Creations emphasises SEFF's growing reputation and he fully justifies it with a trio of club burners. Lead track "Like That" hits hard with a thick, almost garage like swing and deep set synths, whilst the title track is as jacking as you'd imagine. Don't sleep on "Zoot" though as it's a hefty drum workout that will slay floors deep into the night.

Review: For a small label with minute sounds, An dromeda is a heavyweight when it comes to releasing the finest in experimental, sparse and dub-laden, extra-ordinary minimal techno. Vid inaugurated the label in 2012 and now provides the outlet with its first album via a triple 12". Should you find the early releases of Giegling appealing, its likely Vid's debut LP will be of interest too through its poppy beats, watery undertones, balanced percussion and dynamic piano manoeuvres. Productions plunge deep without the need of booming kick drums as demonstrated in "Pasul Unu", or the looped chords of "Tripusor", while rustic tribalisms form in "Landrum Bun". An intriguing album transforming how we perceive the micro-isms of danceable electronic music.

AAA (SAM reshape)
Btass
Review: After a strong 2014, in which he dropped two highly regarded EPs on his friend's CrazyJack label, Parisian producer Lowris pops up on Danish deep techno imprint Concealed Sounds. "AAA" sets the tone, with Lowris peppering a tough, undulating groove - replete with a chunky dub bassline - with all manner of cosmic noises, trippy effects and tipsy electronics. Delaphine regular S.A.M goes deeper on his "re-shape", which makes great use of liquid chords and heady melodies. Finally, "BTass" sees Lowris return to the dense, percussive style with which he made his name, turning in the sort of stripped-back drum jam that should ignite dancefloors that like it tough but minimal.

Seikou
Seikou (Thomas Melchior dub remix)
Review: Two years is a long time between releases, but you can forgive Lisbon's vinyl only Xquisite when their quality threshold is so very high. Romanian talent Ivel Tax cut the ribbon then, but this second release sees the label looking much closer to home throwing the spotlight on rising Portuguese producer Cleymoore. The sound Bruno 'Cleymoore' Santos achieves on "Seikou" can be likened to a hopeless romantics take on the classic Villalobos style, with those percolating textures and delightfully skipping percussive touches augmented by the most wonderful of hazy textural touches. Xquisite have sought out a fine individual to offer an alternate vision of the track in Thomas Melchior, who instils all manner of extra percussive detail into the mix with the resultant production subtly darker in tone.

Low Frequency
Pimp Out
Pimp Out (Luca Cazal remix)
Review: With a few scattered releases behind him, Denney makes the leap to Hot Creations with the self-assured strut of the Pimp Out EP. "Low Frequency" has the potential to be a huge track with its slick use of acid touches, hooky bassline and catchy vocal sample. "Pimp Out" gets more tripped out in its own use of 303-esque sounds, keeping the drum machine rhythms pattering and flying in playful touches of melody to keep the warmth in there. Luca Cazal steps up to deliver a remix of the latter track, working it into a drum focused slice of dancefloor functionality which should prove useful in a plethora of situations.

Review: Though Romanian artist Laurentiu Gavrila first unveiled his Funk E project back in 2011 with a contribution to Desolat X, it really took shape with his subsequent pair of 12"s on Raum. Issued under the banner Into It, those two records established Gavrila's sound and paved the way for appearances on Appolonia's Fabric mix as well as further 12"s for Adult Only and Kurbits Records. A third edition of Into It for Raum is a fine way to open Funk E proceedings for the year, delivering two trademark extended productions that utilise all available space to build a mood with a degree of accomplishment and subtlety. Killer grooves wedged between house and techno!

Review: Featuring the collective talents of Dan Ghenacia, Dyed Sondorom and Shonky, it's little surprise the Apollonia project has swiftly become a force to be reckoned with in house music over the past two years. Less a production unit, more an excellent DJ tag team and label collective, Apollonia output to date has been the sole Trinidad 12" issued through their eponymous label back in 2013. A debut album then is something of an ambitious move, yet Tour a Tour demonstrates the Parisian trio are more than up to the task. Said to be inspired by their unified approach to Djing, the album consists of 13 tracks that ramp up the intensity deftly in a manner to reflect a DJ mix. French legends Phillip Zdar and Alexkid lend their considered touch to proceedings throughout.

Anestie Gomez - "Sparren Farren"
Gua Camole - "Wire"
Kashawar - "Mtwn"
Review: Oh! It's the seventh instalment of the super limited Project London series and it's another gorgeous collaboration between the label's best known names. Anestie Gomez drops "Sparren Farren", a minimalistic, ultra-stripped cut a-la Minus; Gua Camole's "Wire" is more downtempo but a pleasure on the ol' synapses, while "Mtwn" by Kashawar is all about the subbass - a dormant beast howling deeply at the bottom of the mix. Essential for you minimal heads.

Transit Station (10:47)
Transit Station (Petre Inspirescu remix) (14:36)
Review: Romanian label Naural evidently likes to take it's time with one release per year since it first emerged in late 2012 with some Sideways Invisibility Theory material. Release number four on the label has arrived and introduces some new Romanian talent in the shape of Crihan, a unheralded name whose deft production work suggests great promise. There is a subtle intricacy to "Transit Station" that is impressive, yet Crihan also clearly knows how to craft a dancefloor groove. Proceedings are made all the more tempting by a flipside remix from the masterful Petre Inspirescu which brings a whole new level of moodiness to the record. We await the fifth release from Naural in 2016 with expectations high!

Review: Having launched with a various artists double pack last year, The Untold Series returns with a new release that retains this approach, as well the yellow and black vinyl colour scheme, "respectively representing the sun and the darkness". Entitled Chapter 1, this double vinyl release features eight new artists whose productions still fall under the banner of spirituality that seems integral to The Untold Series. Very much an international collection, South American Furz commences proceedings with the Latinised minimalist "420error" and from here Chapter 1 runs the gamut of minimal techno with particular highlights coming from Andrey Zots and exercise in broken techno abstraction, Pheek's playful "Interne", and the Villalobos-esque "Regarde Le Ciel" from Suburbs. Yatto
Review: Vara Records return with their third release, and first in over a year, with Romanian minimal producer Little Hado at the helm. Across his small but respected discography, Little Hado has always brought an element of soul to the table and that's certainly present on the four tracks that make up Masaka Trax. Opener "Itsu" shows restraint and darkness, especially in those dank percussive hits, but edge closer to the speaker and there is underlying warmth present. This is more prominent on "Masaka" which has a wonderfully dubby, hollowed out feel to the groove and a deeply resonant bassline, whilst "Oya Sumi" really showcases Hado's talent for intricate rhythms. Closing track "Yatto" brings both abstraction and emotion to the table and is quite powerful.

Holy Romance Empire (Marcellus Pittman remix)
Odd Movements (Chevel remix)
Passagen (Convextion remix)
Konigstr (SW remix)
Review: The Acid Test series from LA operation Absurd Recordings return to Achterbahn D'armour's fine 2014 LP Odd Movements with an equally compelling remix 12". Compelling because the four artists invited to contribute here each bring their own distinct voice to the table, and the results are likely to intrigue fans of modern techno of all its various shades. First up is Marcellus Pittman who transmogrifies "Holy Roman Empire" into a wonderfully effervescent slice of percussive techno laced with that Detroit grit, whilst Italian producer Chevel continues his recent strain of abstracted productions with growling take on "Odd Movements". Gerard Hanson seems perfectly suited to remix "Passagen" as Convextion, bringing a low gravity electro hum to proceedings, but our pick is most definitely the superlative rework of "Konigstr" from Sued co-founder SW.

Review: Arriving on rather eye catching green vinyl, the Central EP represents a welcome return to the Pleasure Zone for CTRL some two years after the mysterious artist first made his appearance on the label. We didn't know who CTRL was then and we certainly don't now, but such minor distractions should not get in the way of what is simply some fine minimal techno! Already supported by messrs Villalobos and Raresh, the four tracks from CTRL here are all distinguished by an undeniably funky grasp of how to programme drums. The arid opener "Tripolo" also possesses sublime chords that are redolent of classic Chicago house, whilst the broken rhythms and tumbling textures of "Rez" will no doubt be wholly effective when deployed in the dance!

Review: Last year's Ballad of the Ice LP for I'm A Cliche seemed to open quite a few doors for Tel Aviv pair Dori Sadovnik & Niv Arzi with Red Axes appearances on Kompakt, Highlife, and Relish. The commencement of a new Shem series of records brings the Red Axes back to Cosmo Vitelli's label with a remit being tracks geared towards the dancefloor but always retaining the one-of-a-kind approach that it distils in all its productions. The four tracks on Volume 1 set the tone nicely, be it the Delia Derbyshire does cavernous acid house vibes of "Na Da" or the spectral "Balma" which features the Portuguese crooner Abrao. Best of all however is the effervescent jack track "Nu" which really exemplifies the talent of Red Axes to make club-ready tracks out of organic elements.

Review: Here is the second vinyl only instalment from FarFromNormal records, with a fantastic 4 track EP from the young upcoming producer Jamie Haus, This record hold's 3 original tracks from Jamie and a amazing remix from the young Romanian Groovesh. This record has a totally different vibe compared to the labels first release with a much heavier techno roll. "Mattur" is a good example of this, whilst "Inter" finds Jamie Haus on a much darker, dub vibe. "Meiose" Is packed with a fantastic rolling kick with atmospheric noises in the back, whilst the Groovesh remix comes with that brilliant Romanian touch that everyone is asking for.

Calling (AOKI Takamasa remix)
Review: The Vida Noir double pack issued through op.disc in 2013 was perhaps the finest example of Yoshihiro Hanno's work as Radiq to date, and as such is a perfect candidate for remix treatment from the label. Naturally, op.disc keep matters in house with three of Hanno's label mates contributing to this high quality 12". Fumiya Tanaka is up first with a deep reworking of "Vida Noir" that recasts the track as a minimal monster filled with all manner of intricate vocal detail under that slick rhythm. Akiko Kiyama is on equally good form with a remix of "Rondo" that features some delightfully abstract production work to the skipping beats, whilst Aoki Takamasa veers into micro house territory with an excellent revision of "Calling".
