Review: San Diego label All-Town Sound intersects the heavier sides of funk, afrobeat, cumbia, soul, reggae, and beyond. In-Motion Collective, their latest group signee, are a large-scale outfit channelling the combined multi-instrumental chops of Joe Harrison, the baritone sax playing of Jesse Audelo and vibraphone stylings of Tim Felten, to name a few of its components. The two tracks contained on this 7" express something between blissful balearica and Herbalized instru-hop, with textural and dry beats intersecting with infectious, mega-processed (often reversed and psychedelicized) instrumental leads.

Review: A gentle psychedelic downtempo single offering from 10-piece Californian Afro-funk group In Motion Collective. While there are too many musicians to sing all their praises equally, Joe Harrison and Dillon Casey do fantastic guitar work on side A with 'Hong Sau', featuring a reverse guitar solo. The track is mellow and not too far removed from the realm of Lo-FI Hip-hop, it's cinematic and beautiful but still packs a punch despite its gentle nature. 'Elephant Walk', as the name would imply, is more forceful with its guitar riffs and percussion, done by the talented Mitchum Yacoub. The track is a theatrical groover that doesn't take itself too seriously, despite its rich and detailed instrumental. You can listen to these songs over and over and hear something new each time - or so I would hope with it being 10 people and all.

Review: The influences of Incredible Bongo Band loom large over this new one from The Kitchen II Allstars. 'Bongo Grove' is an upbeat tune driven by big horns with Mitchum Yacoub on bongos. It is super short at under three minutes but that is enough time for its potency to really hit home. On the flip, William Onyeabor and Isaac Hayes are the reference points for 'Onyeabor 80'. It is a more steady groove that looks you in and then draws your wonder with its lush flute lines and great contributions from members from The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble and Mestizo Beat.
