Universal drum synthesizer with roots in the analogue world on a swappable 10HP oscillator platform

Basimilus Iteritas Alia is a parameterized digital drum voice with its roots in the analog world. At its heart, the BIA is a simple six-oscillator additive and FM synthesizer with waveform, harmonic spread, and envelope controls. An adjustable noise oscillator and an extreme take on a wavefolder round out its synthesis abilities. Its straightforward controls make sound design fun and performable: create sub-shaking kicks, snares, hats, and unique drum hits with just a few tweaks.

BIA is a classic percussion module but you'll be blown away by how much more it can do. Use it for leads, basslines, or build a whole drum kit with some external CV. Plus, the envelope output means you can use the BIA for shaping and modulating other parts of your patch.

Notes: ADSR (Attack-Decay-Sustain-Release) is a module designed to generate a voltage, which acts as the envelope with the adjustable stages. This envelope, generated in response to the incoming gate signal or manually pushed button, can then be used to shape the sound amplitude via VCA, modulate filter's cutoff frequency or any other parameters expecting CV control.
It features exponential Attack, Decay and Release stages, switch to select fast/slow operation mode, push button with led indicator to manually activate the envelope.

A visit to the Hainbach Studio Complex two years ago, led to a collaboration that would result in what is perhaps Joranalogue's finest design yet. United by a common passion for vintage test gear, the Joranalogue team joined forces with artist and YouTube sensation Hainbach.

Collide 4 builds upon on the lock-in amplifier concept, and brings it into the Eurorack world. These atomic age physics research instruments are known for their raw power when used in musical applications. Soon, any synthesist can experience this for themselves, at a fraction of the size and weight of a vintage unit, and with full voltage control.

The result is a wholly new kind of synth voice and audio processor, unlike any other. It's a perfect union of Hainbach's extensive experience in exploring the deepest musical realms contained within vintage test equipment, and profound knowledge of audio design and production.

'Quadrature spectral computer' is how you could describe this new kind of musical generator and processor. The sound? Quite simply: it's smashing!

Running Order is a two track trigger sequencer. It can be a precise master clock or manipulate incoming clock signal and works great in use as a sub-sequencer/divider in your Eurorack environment.

Notes: Control Eurorack using your breath with this unique module from ADDAC. A melodica pipe connected to the front panel allows you to generate two independent CV signals from breath inputs. Funky.

Supplier's Notes:
This module expands ADDAC's line of expressive controls, it follows the heritage of wind/breath controllers with one major difference, the pipe has no air escape creating pressure inside the tube controlled by the user's mouth. For a seasoned woodwind or brass musicians this working principle may sound unorthodox, however this way pressure can be controlled for longer without the need to breath in or learning circular breathing techniques. It's relatively easy to control the pressure in your mouth while still breathing through the nose.

The module is provided with a standard melodica pipe which connects to an air filter (providing a receptacle for condensation to form and isolate the sensor) and lastly connects to the module frontpanel.

The signal captured by the sensor is then sent to two independent sections with exactly the same functions as seen in the signal flow diagram below.

As an example the two sections can be used with different settings to independently control the VCA and VCF of any standard analogue voice patch.

Pipe

ADDAC are using a standard Melodica pipe into an air filter that will keep condensation away from the sensor. The air filter is then connected to the frontpanel sensor input using a silicone tube.

Sensor calibration

[RESPONSE] is the main control to calibrate the pressure curve, the knob goes from exponential to logarithmic with linear at 12 o'clock. Exponential will be more reactive to high pressures, logarithmic to lower pressures.

Hold function

This feature allows to hold the current voltage value with the hold is engaged (button led on), the state can be changed either by the push button in a latching manner (push to change state) or via the gate input in a momentary manner (hold on while gate is on)

The ASSIMIL8OR is a CV/Gate-controllable sampler with eight independent channels. Each channel is not only its own voice, but also has a separate audio output and a gate/trigger and three CV inputs. Given ever get two sample inputs and main outputs. Thus, Stereo Sampling and playback is possible. Mixed operation of stereo or mono is possible and is limited only by the maximum number of eight channels or parts.

The ASSIMIL8OR works with high-quality 24-bit AD and DA converters. Internally, however, sample and bit rate for lo-fi sound can be lowered, the latter is even CV-controllable. The samples can also be otherwise manipulated in many ways. Thus, the phase of a sample via CV or a different sample can be modulated. Likewise, the loop points can be controlled and the sample can be traversed with CV control (scrubbing), whereby wavetable similar effects could be achieved. The following parameters can be addressed via the gate / trigger and CV inputs:

Samples and presets are stored on an SD card, which is easily accessible plugged into the module front.

Notes: Control Forge's core functionality is drawn from the E-mu Morpheus's insanely powerful (but hard to program on a two-line display) Function Generators. But now expanded into a supremely flexible modulation source encompassing elaborate one-shot contours, evolving cyclical patterns and sequences of arbitrary length and complexity.

At its most basic, it's an 8-segment function generator with variable time and target voltage level for each segment. Each segment's level can be defined either absolutely or relative to the ending level of the previous stage and can optionally be quantized to the nearest 1/12 volt, additionally, each segment's level may have a user defined range of randomness of either linear or gaussian distribution.

'Tempo Mode' lets you specify each segment's length in musical note values relative to a tempo set in BPM. The time scale may be modulated under CV control or manually via the encoder during runtime.

There are 67 different transition shapes between segments (indicated graphically on the display during selection), from linear and exponential shapes to various flavours of random, chaotic, and many more that don't lend themselves to one-word descriptions, including the ability to pass CVs directly through to the output for individual segments. Also included are 'DC' shapes that allow the module to be used as a sequencer with all of the module's available programmability. When combined with the Preset Sequencer described below, sequences can be hundreds of steps long and modified in real time manually or by CVs.

Each segment may optionally have a conditional jump mode that results in a jump to another selected stage if a particular condition is met. e.g. a CV being above or below the selected conditional value, the presence or lack of a gate or logic high at their respective inputs, rising or falling edges at the inputs, etc. So, in addition to one-shot shapes, extremely elaborate cyclical patterns can be programmed that evolve based on the various conditional inputs.

Control Forge's AutoChain functionality allows the creation of two very specific kinds of multi-preset patterns: A multi-preset retriggerable pattern (like a long syncable LFO), and a multi-preset 'envelope-like' pattern with retriggerability, an optional sustain section, and a 'release' section that's jumped to on gate fall. Two independent triggers can be programmed to fire in response to a variety of events and can be used to affect either CONTROL FORGE itself or external modules.

500 presets can be saved and recalled. a preset sequencer allows stepping through up to 200 user-defined series of presets under trigger, clock or manual control. This allows contours and sequences of almost unlimited length and complexity. All presets and sequences can be transferred to any number of Satellite modules, which can then operate as stand-alone modulation sources, completely independent of the Control Forge.

Notes: What does this do?

This is an analogue filter with a separate 3 channel mono mixer, and VCA combo. There is also an internal envelope generator with Decay. All this product needs is a VCO and a trigger signal to complete a mini voice.

The outputs on the filter are meant to be manually patched into one of the VCA audio inputs on the module to complete the mini voice. You can mix and match to create custom filter types.

The Feedback on the product 'Rez', is what makes this sound like an MS20 filter. There are diodes, used as a limiter, and also to wave shape when in self oscillation mode.

Flame Curves is an analog moving resonance filter bank.

The module includes a twelve channel analog filterbank and a pattern player which can be programmed with a software editor. You can use a freeware "Curves editor software" (Win/Mac) for setup and user pattern editing. The module needs a clock to run in pattern-mode. It also features a reset input to set the sequence back to the first step. The memory in the module can save up to 99 patterns. The active pattern can be seen on the display and selected thanks to two buttons.

If Curves is in sequencer mode, the Envelope potentiometer controls the AR envelope, the Variation knob adds random velocity and release, and the Fill potentiometer controls the level of all the channels.
In manual mode, when the sequencer is off, you can select different filter-types with the Variation potentiometer: allpass, lowpass, bandpass 1-3 and highpass. Thanks to the Fill knob it is possible to sweep through the twelve filter bands. The Envelope knob smoothes the sweep by activating a second band next to the selected filter band. Thus the change from one band to another is not so abrupt.
It is also possible to play the twelve filters via MIDI like a drum module, thanks to the supplied MIDI to minijack cable. It even reacts to velocity.

The twelve bands are subdivided in odd and even bands, which you can feed or tap out separately thanks to the various inputs and outputs. Try patching the odd outputs on one side and even outputs on the other side and you will get an amazing stereo effect! ALL output features a Dry/Wet and a Level potentiometer.
Additionaly, the module features also a direct audio output and direct VCA input of each filter channel. Thus it is possible to feed gate, triggers or envelopes to the VCA of various filterbands and play them independently.

Furthermore, there are several CV inputs for controlling Envelope, Variation and Fill parameters as well as the pattern number.

For the first time in Eurorack, this oscillator module provides outputs for the first 8 harmonics as sine waves. Also included are triangle, saw, square waves.

A voltage controlled mixer with various methods of address allows the user to scan, tilt and mix the harmonics from both panel and external voltage control. It is built on a discrete, all analog triangle core with an old school discrete transistor exponential converter. It has inputs for linear and exponential FM, the exponential with a reversing attenuator. Of course there's a 1 volt/octave trimmed CV input as well.

FLAME "TAKT" rhythm sequencer.

"TAKT" is a compact 30HP Eurorack sequencer module for playing or programming trig- ger/gate/velocity rhythm sequences.

The sequencer has 8 tracks with trigger/gate outputs, 8 velocity/modulation CV outputs and full MIDI functionality. The CV track can also be used independently as a modulation track. Live sequencing in looper mode is possible in two ways: SHOTS for playing "note repeats" or quantized triggering via keys or sensors.

Four tracks can be triggered simultaneously with four external distance sensors. These sensors are just 2HP slim modules that can be rack mounted at desired locations. These are connected directly to the module with narrow and sufficiently long ribbon cables, which also supplies the sensors with the necessary operating voltage. The 4 sensors and the connection cables are included in the scope of delivery. The sensors generate trig- gers/gates and can be switched live as a set between tracks 1-4 and 5-8 (e.g. via foots- witch).

Four syncable LFOs with VCOs for amplitude adjustment are also provided. The LFOs are equipped with many interesting functions. This includes 26 different waveforms, phase, amplitude, speed and output voltage. This can be unipolar or bipolar (0..+5v or +/- 5v) and additionally attenuated by AMP (amplitude) with built-in VCA. This means that the LFO outputs can also be adapted to modules that do not have an input attenuator.

Patterns can be switched live and are each up to 4 bars long. 4 patterns plus a fill pat- tern are saved as a scene. 50 scenes can be permanently stored in the module. This means that 250 patterns are available in total.

Additional inputs and outputs for controls are available. There are 4 CV inputs to be defi- ned by the user, as well as 2 programmable analog clock outputs. On the front there are MIDI input and output as 3.5mm TRS sockets. Firmware updates can be done via MIDI- SYSEX.

Notes: Not just another clone or continuation of the 808-esque, acid-style kicks of the Mutant Bassdrum - the Mutant BD9 seeks to explore uncharted bassdrum territory by having an integrated sub-oscillator for maximal auditory obliteration.

Parametric bassdrum synthesis offers creative control of the core sound

The primary analogue VCO offers classic 909-esque sinusoidal bassdrums, but can also be switched to generate a square wave bassdrum

The PITCH of the VCO spans several octaves, from about 30Hz to 240Hz, and can be modulated with voltage control

A novel PITCH DECAY circuit allows you to adjust the duration and AMOUNT of the pitch-modulation envelope applied to the bassdrum, from short blips to exaggerated tom-like sweeps

The AMPLITUDE DECAY allows adjustment of the length of the bassdrum, from short punchy kicks to massive booms. This parameter is voltage-controlled with a snappy CV response time, allowing you to modulate the duration of your kicks per step.

The CLICK generator is responsible for the attack intensity of the BD9. A fair amount of circuitry goes into creating this subtle punch at the beginning of the kick. The level of this effect is adjustable up to a fairly dramatic extremity.

The overall timbre of the BD9 varies with the DRIVE control from warm, analogue bassdrums at low settings to speaker-shattering overdriven sounds at high settings. Output levels are modular-level signals, unlike many classic line-level percussive devices.

Still not heavy enough? Try the sub-oscillator.

A square wave sub-oscillator derived from the primary oscillator's pitch can be mixed in (manually and with voltage control) to the BD9. The effect can be subtle deepness or extreme timbre changes.

A jumper on the back of the module allows you to select between the sub-osc being a raw square wave or having some of the high frequency components removed with a lowpass filter.

At high OUTPUT DRIVE and SUB LVL combinations, the sub-oscillator can be modulated with CV to saturate the BD9 output in evolving ways.

The SUB OCT can be set to 0, -1 or -2 octaves down from the primary oscillator. A drop of 0 means that you can mix an equal-pitch square wave with a sinusoidal primary wave.

A practical analogue trigger circuit allows activation of the BD9 from many signal sources (anything with a positive-going edge lasting 2ms or longer). Most electronic drum pads can also directly trigger the Mutant BD9.

An accent input accepts analogue voltage control (0 to 5V will fully modulate the volume from low to high)

The Mutant Rimshot is a fully analogue rimshot and clave generator inspired by the rimshot found in the legendary 909 drum machine; a triple bridged-T oscillator coupled with a state variable filter. The clave sound (not a feature of the original 909 rimshot) is achieved by using just one of the oscillators.

Rimshot LO gives a lower pitch range; try playing with the filter on this setting to get low tom and kickdrum sounds.
CLV (Clave) mode uses just one of the oscillators to give you a brighter, higher percussive sound.
A switch on the back lets you select between original and extended pitch modes. Original mode can give you rimshots exactly modelling that of classic machines (in Hi mode), whereas extended mode gives a wider range of pitch, at the expense of classic accuracy.

Designed to be a highly customizable connection matrix, 3DVCA packs a boat load of utility into a small 6HP package. Four VCAs share the three macro controls: X, Y, and Z. As a group, they shape incoming and outgoing signals and emulate the coordinates of a point in 3 dimensional space. This allow the VCAs to work together in a mono, stereo, or quad configuration and accomplish a variety of mixing, crossfading, and panning functions.

Each output has a dedicated SUM input which allows an external signal to be automatically mixed into the output signal. This allows 3DVCA to daisy chain both with other mixers and other 3DVCAs. For example, you can create a full mono, stereo, or quadraphonic mix by plugging the output of each 3DVCA into the sum inputs of the next 3DVCA in the chain. Using this method, a set of 3DVCAs can create a fully voltage controlled and decentralized mixer which ties together anything from a small skiff to a monster synth.

When 3DVCA works as a crossfader or panner, the X and Y parameters follow an equal-power curve that keep output signals at the same volume no matter how many inputs are mixed together. This is in contrast to the Z parameter which follows a linear curve to always behave predictably with external modulation sources. All inputs are fully DC coupled in order to work with modulation speed signals as well as static DC voltage sequences; this means that 3DVCA can handle any sort of signal that you throw at it. All op amps in the device employ rail-to-rail inputs and outputs to enable the largest headroom when mixing many different signals together.

Notes: Solist is not your average performance mixer and mute combination - far from it. Designed in collaboration with Bries, Solist contains four channels of soft vactrol muting, controlled by tactile and pleasantly clicky mechanical switches. Solist will help make your performances shine - but most importantly, the red solo switches allow you to override the current state of the mute switches, allowing for creative transitions between solo and mute states during your performance.

While the audio circuit is fully analogue, it is also entirely isolated from the digital circuit that controls the mutes. Running on a fast and reliable Raspberry Pi RP2040, you get all the benefits of digital control without the downsides of digital audio processing. Best of all, the mechanical state of the switches determine the state of the module, so even if you power cycle, you will return to your previous state.

Notes: Introducing the Cortisol Legend: a spiritual successor to one of my early designs, the Steroid Legend, it presents as 4hp of white hot saturation and hairy distortion, and features manual control over two op-amp driven gain stages, with a diode saturation control in the middle, giving you precise control over distortion ranging from smoldering saturation all the way into utter rail-to-rail fuzzification.

As for the diodes, the Cortisol Legend has two flavors on tap: Steroid Legend-inspired diodes and genuine, Cold War-era USSR-made Germanium diodes from the far reaches of Europe. These diodes are getting increasingly hard to find, but have been known for their warm and fuzzy characteristics by guitar pedal enthusiasts for years. Here, you get the genuine article, for as long as they can be reliably sourced.

In addition to having control over the saturation depth, the Cortisol Legend offers an additional control parameter: Eustress and Distress. Roll off the edge and noise a bit with a Styroflex-capacitor filter which varies with saturation depth, or leave no edge unjagged with this setting.

Speaking of noise, this thing is LOUD, so you may want to have an attenuator such as the psATT on hand, unless of course the loudness is exactly what you want. Hand in hand with the overdrive and distortion comes, of course, beautiful new harmonics added to anything from single waveforms to samples, sounds and entire mixes.

Various diodes will be available at different times, but all variants are ultimately limited - all Germanium diodes used in these are new old stock from the Cold War, and one day they will run out.. Expect individual modules to have a bit of their own character.

As the name implies, the unit contains eight individual inputs and outputs, all of which can be individually routed by way of the isolinear switch matrix on the front panel. Inputs are arranged in rows, while outputs are assigned to columns, making it easy and intuitive to quickly route any given input to any given output. Drawing inspiration from the MMI Maxima, the MMI Helios is intended as a middle ground between the gestural control surface of the Maxima and the fingertip control of the smaller MMI.

Less density, but a much higher degree of patch control is the key point of the Helios, which complements other MMI devices very well, and can be joined with other Helios (Helii?) to form larger and creative control surfaces.

The design is greatly simplified compared to the original MMI, with only two I/O jacks - either can function as input and output, and their interaction with each other is determined by touching both plates simultaneously to form a connection, or in cooperation with other MMI devices.

Available in a "right" and "left" version - one is an exact mirror image of the other, which makes it suitable for having two units adjacent to one another.

Notes: Operation of the Astra is both simple and straightforward - the large touch panel on the front will respond gradually to soft and firm touches, making it easy to inject some human feeling into your compositions.

Being fully analogue, the controller uses an internal vactrol and slew rate limiter to make it easy for you to create smooth transitions - when used without an input, the MMI Astra uses an internal 5v source as the basis of its signal, allowing you to easily generate complex CV to control other modules, in order to create intermittent filter sweeps, resonance peaks and much more.

The long and smoothly controlled fader makes it easy to strike the right balance between the input and the two outputs, which continuously share each their portion of the input signal. With input buffering and a dual-gang potentiometer, the signal for one channel will fully close at either extreme end and perform with perfect consistency when you need it most.

Use it for panning, wet/dry control, transitioning between different audio or CV destinations - or even just as an attenuator in a pinch. The Pivot isn't the most complicated panner and balance mixer on the market, but rock solid build quality, design and component choices make it a reliable companion in any performance setup.

Notes: Pretzel Logic is a 4 bit to 16 step addressable analogue sequencer which outputs gates. Each of it's 16 steps can be addressed in any order for ultimate creative flexibility. It pairs nicely with Polygraf, High Towers and Akropoli; together they make a powerful combination.

It features 4 address inputs, 1, 2, 4 and 8, each of which has an associated input socket as well as a 3 position state switch which allows each address input to be held high, respond to input signals, or held low. Each input has two status LEDs. The red LED displays the signal present at the input socket, while the green LED displays the status of the address input. The combination of signals present at the input sockets, together with the positions of the state switches allows Pretzel Logic to have 16 different output states, numbered from 0 through to 15. The output state of Pretzel Logic can be ascertained by observing which of the 4 address inputs are high. So, for example:

- If no green status LEDs are on, Pretzel Logic is in output state 0

- If green status LED 4 is on, Pretzel Logic is in output state 4

- If green status LEDs 1, 2 and 4 are on, Pretzel Logic is in output state 7

- If green status LEDs 2 and 8 are on, Pretzel Logic is in output state 10

The input sockets may be addressed by various external modules, for example:

- FC Pocket Calculator, FC High Towers, or similar clock dividers with multiple outputs from other manufacturers.

As Polygraf is capable of storing many user patterns which themselves are selectable by CV, multiple chained patterns are possible. Notes: Chris Huggett, chief designer at EDP came up with a novel little circuit for the filter envelope of the Wasp, based around half a CD4013, half a CD4066 and half a LM3900. It was an A/R generator with looping option which would proceed through its whole cycle from only a trigger input. He further developed the circuit for the filter envelope in the Gnat to use just one knob to provide a range of attack envelopes when anti-clockwise (from 12 o'clock), and a range of release envelopes when clockwise (from 12 o'clock). 12 o'clock gives a very short symmetrical blip. As you can build two of these with a CD4013, CD4066 and LM3900, Frequency Central have provided both a two knob version and a one knob version, each has its own place.

Notes: You can never have too many voltage controlled amplifiers VCAs! (voltage controlled amplifiers). Ampera offers 4x VCAs in a tiny 6HP footprint with manual potentiometer control mixed with CV control.

Amplification ranges between 0.1x-2x, so you can make your 5V signals 10V with an offset voltage. Chain 2 channels together, and you have boost.

This filter is based on a comprehensive granular approach to sound: rather than a granular engine followed by a filter, it offers true integration of filtering into the grain-generation process. Each generated grain carries the filtering characteristics defined by the musician and will be combined with other grains according to evolving, configurable patterns.

These filters have been developed entirely from scratch in-house, without using typical filter libraries, so they each have their own unique color for you to explore!

Ladder: Inspired by Moog-style analogue filters, with four stages in cascade. Features a steep slope (24 dB/oct) and a distinctive resonance that can reach self-oscillation.

Filter Controls

Cutoff (Cutoff Frequency):Defines the filter's cutoff frequency or center frequency (depending on filter type), ranging from 10 Hz to 20 kHz.

Resonance: Emphasises frequencies near the cutoff frequency, from a slight bump up to the edge of self-oscillation.

Feedback: Re-injects part of the output back into the filter input.

Variations: Introduces an instability in the setting of the cutoff frequency, resonance, or feedback (depending on the selected filter), allowing for a more or less "organic" filter character.

Grain Controls: The incoming sound is continuously sampled and segmented into buffers. Each segment is analysed, filtered, and then extracted to become a grain. You can change the length of each grain, the interval between grains, the way grains follow one another, how they are arranged in relation to each other, and their density (number and influence).

Grain Length: Adjusts the length of the audio grains. The shorter the grains, the more the sound fragments into a "grained" granular texture; the longer the grains, the closer the result is to the original sound, but filtered and delayed. When multiple grains are played simultaneously, longer grains make echo effects more noticeable.

Grain Interval: Determines the time between the start of two successive grains (or the probability of automatic triggering).

Pattern: Grains are organized according to predefined, adjustable patterns. Several scenarios allow you to explore different ways grains can combine, from highly organized to more chaotic.

Density: Determines how many grains are played simultaneously and their intensity.

Variability: Sets the magnitude of the special effects specific to each pattern.

Transition: Defines the shape of the envelope applied to the grains as they link together.

Input and Output: Sisyphus works with two parallel channels that share the same settings. You can use it either in stereo mode or as two separate mono audio channels.

CV Inputs: Four CV inputs allow control of Sisyphus using other Eurorack modules. These inputs accept the standard Eurorack voltages (0 to 8 V).

The four basic parameters that can be controlled via CV are: Grain Length, Density, Cutoff, and Resonance.

However, you can configure the module differently using an external file on an SD card. In that case, any CV input can be assigned to any control, the input voltage range (from 1 to 8 V) can be set, LED brightness can be adjusted, and more.

Notes: Random rhythm generator

Joey is a Eurorack module that generates random gate sequences. It is the offspring of Skippy (Kaona's polyrhythmic sequencer), without simply copying it: it's a very straightforward module that provides unexpected yet controllable sequences.

It offers three main modes:

Random

For random triggers controlled by an internal speed or an external clock.

Fractal

A unique algorithm sprinkled with 5% chaos, creating evolving and surprising patterns.

Euclid

Generates four different Euclidean patterns for complex and evolving rhythms.

Each mode has three adjustable parameters set via a clickable encoder: speed, a mode-specific parameter (probability, fractal root, or Euclidean pattern), and gate length. An external gate input can take over to synchronize speed. A PLAY/STOP button instantly suspends or restarts the gates.

Notes: Skippy Exp is a tiny module in 2HP that adds "Play/Stop" and "Reset" functions to Skippy, either via a button or a CV input. It cannot operate independently; you absolutely need Skippy to use it.

For those who don't need the live adjustments offered by Skippy Live (or have run out of space!), Skippy EXP still provides two essential functions for dynamic performance.

This module cannot operate alongside Skippy Live, which already has these two functions. It can be placed either to the right or left of Skippy. The connector to link it to Skippy is included. This module does not need to be connected to power.

Notes: Catena is a control voltage powerhouse, packing in four channels of attenuation and offsets, two VC slew engines, half and full wave rectification, input voltage doubling and switchable voltage reference sources with an external offset input. As well as the standard cascading offset and polarisation utilities, the module can act as a percussive envelope generator or sidechain ducker, slow lag or glide control, waveshaper and mixer. Four channels of attenuators or attenuvertors are chained together, running from left to right, with an additional alternative mode per channel. The channel functions are chosen using a three-way slide switch above each control pot. Alternative modes use attenuvertion at the preamp stage allowing the modified signal to be polarised.

VREF Control

With no CV input patched, each channel generates +-5V or +-10V depending on the attenuvertor and VREF Switch position. The switch toggles between +5V and +10V precision voltage references. All Inputs and outputs soft clip at +-10V.

Slew Controls

CH 1 & 2 in the alt (slew) modes can have the slew response switched between tight and loose. There is further CV control via the CV input jack.

Offset Control

The pot controls the additional VREF amount added to CH 2, 3 & 4. With a CV input patched the pot controls an external signal input amount.CH 1 can also be offset by shifting a jumper on the rear panel.

Signal Doubler

Instead of unity gain as per the other channels, CH 4 doubles the input gain of a patched signal, but keeps any chained or offset signals at unity gain.

Mixer

High quality OPA op amps are used throughout, and Catena will happily serve as a mixer for 1-4 channels of audio. A five channel mixer is also possible by adding an audio signal to the offset jack.

Notes: The SetonixSynth/Tidbit Audio Psychedelic Voltage Processor, or PVP, is a four-channel chaos module. It uses colour-changing LEDs to produce fluctuating voltages in response to the Channel input, with each channel normalized in series to create increasingly chaotic "taps" that can be used one after another for different variations.

Any positive voltage input such as unipolar LFOs, envelopes, stepped voltages, or simply the onboard normalized voltage patched to a channel input is reproduced approximately on each channel output, with the PVP inducing unpredictable fluctuations due to the variable current consumed by an LED circuit with a mind of its own.
