Elevation (Louie Vega remix) (9:04)
Elevation (extended) (6:40)
Elevation (Soul Clap remix) (8:43)
Elevation (Tommy Musto Zero Hour vocal mix) (7:04)
Review: Last summer, Soul Clap Records giddily introduced their first ever singings from the UK, 2Fox, via digital-only vocal house number 'Elevation'. Nine months on, that track has finally made it onto wax, accompanied by the best remixes from the expansive digital EP. In its original extended mix form (A2), the track is a sublime slab of warm, tactile, nostalgic and gospel-tinged deep house excellence with superb lead vocals by Laville. Masters at Work man and all-round NYC great Louie Vega delivers a fantastic, lightly tooled-up soulful house take to kick off the EP, label bosses Soul Clap add tech-house style synths and attractive electronics aplenty, and New York veteran Tommy Musto leans further into 'Calling Your Name' style gospel-house joy.

Hatch - "Future Sounds Of A Laundrette" (6:06)
Defunkt Dialekt - "Take Aim" (4:25)
Lectro Cod E - "Don't Want No Smoke" (5:18)
Review: The second volume of the Alien Transmissions series is another mighty fine various artists offering. It kicks off with some darker, acid-laced electro that has menacing bass and kicks so booming your eardrums will tickle. Hatch's 'Future Sounds Of A Laundrette' has all the loopy clatter you might expect of a tune with such a title and Defunkt Dialekt then layers up the most rustic sounds, prickly hits and squealing synths into something utterly arresting on 'Take Aim.' Last of all is the high-speed intergalactic electro workout that is Lectro Cod E's 'Don't Want No Smoke' with its crisp boom-bap and coruscated bass.

Anna Wall - "Mercury Retrograde" (5:05)
Dream World - "Alice Ghost" (4:51)
Lan - "The Correct Spelling" (3:58)
Review: Rawbeats offer up yet another addition to their sub-catalogue Extrasensorial, which aims to, in their words, "soothe your soul and ignite your senses". While that might sound contradictory to the point of impossible, the label prove this to be not so. First up on the witness stand comes Stefano Adriezzi with 'Sintomas', whose centrally choppy Reese-scape both excites and incites the listener, causing vestigial reflexes to move either voluntarily or involuntarily. Then Lo-lo's 'The Last Domain' and Anna Wall's 'Mercury Retrograde' do similar, the former's mistral melodic trance and the latter's more rancorous murk-offs offering up convincing ancillary proofs to Adriezzi's initial sonic testimony. Finally, though, Dream World's 'Alice Ghost' delivers the smoking gun of Rawbeats' soothing excitement; snippy electro, whorlingly high up-down pads and sampled musings on a mystical higher power, building to a minimal but effectively purgatory sequential cascade.

Review: For its seventh release, southern Italians Obscura Music return to welcome exciting new talents and core label acts. Head honchos Agents Of Time venture down an electro route with "East Coast", as do the ever impressive London Modular Alliance on the hypnotic "Buck One". Man of the moment Aussie Jensen Interceptor channels classic Drexciyan aesthetics on "Manix" before homeboys and label staples Hiver come through with the slinky and hypnotic tech house of "Stasys" and Detroit veteran Kris Wadsworth makes a surprising appearance with some slow burning minimalism displayed on closer "Abroad".

Arjum Vagale - "Liquid" (6:00)
Vinicius Honorio - "Diamond Dust" (7:18)
Luigi Madonna & Roberto Capuano - "Limitless" (6:46)
Review: More big guns for the main room (at peak time!) courtesy of tried and tested experts Drumcode - and they sure aren't messing around on part four of the sixth instalment of their A sides series. Tuscany's Luca Agnelli serves up the pummelling and furious DJ tool "Hypericum" while India's finest techno export Arjun Vagale continues to make waves with his dynamic sound and "Liquid" is no exception, as it electrifies your senses with rapid fire rhythms and mental synth sequences. On the flip, London's Vinicius Honorio serves up the tunneling and hypnotic journey that is "Diamond Dust" which has the potential to appeal to a wide cross section of techno DJs and their respective styles - loved the mesmerising Jeff Mills style chime melody on this one. Finally, two of the label's staples team up for what you could only expect as massive: Neapolitans Luigi Madonna & Roberto Capuano with the slinky late night tech house of "Limitless".

Agonis - "Black Swans" (5:02)
Konduku - "Liquidity" (6:24)
Lemont - "Cascading Mistakes" (6:49)
Varuna - "Speculative Communities" (6:24)
Review: Basel-based experimental labels Amenthia Recordings and A Walking Contradiction join forces for their first collaborative release here in the form of the Flash Crash/Hack Crash EP. Both labels are known for pushing boundaries within their close-knit creative circles and this one features Agonis' heavy stepper and Konduku's whirlpool of low frequencies on the Amenthia side, while Lemont continues the low-end, tripped-out vibe. Varuna represents A Walking Contradiction and delivers swampy, slow-motion sounds in their signature style. This release embodies both labels' commitment to daring, unconventional electronic sounds.

AkizzBeatzz - "I'm An African" (3:29)
Lego Edit - "Sahara Adventures" (Lego re-edit) (4:58)
Review: AkizzBeatzz and Lego Edit join forces to mutually reinforce what they both do best: making disco edits and reworks of classic funk, soul and Afrobeat, and occassionally offering up the odd original track. The 12" 'African Groove' is a downtempo and weighty meditation on what it means to hail from the continent, with Akizz' A-side 'I'm An African' playfully laying down a diasporic big beat excursion, replete with regional instrumentation and defiant political vocal samples. Lego Edit's 'Sahara Adventures', meanwhile, works a chugging beat around a central algaita line.

Don't Hide It (Alexkid Acid club) (6:04)
Review: F Communications, the ling time label run by French techno legend Laurent Garnier, keeps on marking its 25th anniversary with an on point series of releases, remasters and remixes of some of its best moments. For many, Alexkid's 'Dont Hide It' will always be synonymous with the late great Andrew Weatherall, who dropped it into his Fabric mix in sublime fashion. That was the vocal version which is a dirty, rasping, jacking cut with a breathy vocal totally at odds with the filthy production. The a-side is an acid workout from 303 maestro Josh Wink that is quite different, but also just as killer.

Lego Edit - "Party Freaks" (Lego party dub) (5:59)
Review: You can always count on the Legofunk crew to bring you disco and funk edits from less mined sources that will absolutely rock it on the floor. On this instalment we have five different joints to get stuck into, from the slow Afro house throw down of Alexny's 'Meneao' to Siggatunez's slinky, soulful groover 'Boogie'. Look out for the low tempo seduction of DJ Laurel's 'Let The Good Time', which will get a warm-up slot thoroughly juiced for the night to come. The Lego Edit 'party dub' of 'Party Freaks' heads more explicitly towards peak-time house, but as ever it's delivered with heart and soul thanks to the vintage source material powering the track.

Latent - "Interstellar Object"
Karaba - "Loop Da Loop"
Ilyes - "Last Organ I Promise"
Review: Adrien Calvert is building up a presence in that cheeky, chunky 90s revival happening around minimal tech house at the moment, and his Stay At Home label is becoming a hot bed of fresh and fruity house jams. Take this VA release as a fine case in point, welcoming the bulbous acid strutter 'Satisfied' by Aline Umber to shake its shoulders next to Calvert's own playful deep house joint 'The Foil'. Latent takes things space-wards on the B side with 'Interstellar Object' before Karaba completes the picture with the crafty beats and synapse-tickling synth delights of 'Loop Da Loop'.

Salem Tradition - "Kabare" (Alma Negra rework) (5:15)
Lindigo - "Tany Be" (Alma Negra dub) (8:55)
Review: For the latest excursion on their eponymous label, the Alma Negra crew is in full remix mode, in turn reworking tracks from contemporary Maloya combo Lindigo and lesser-known French Afro artist Salem Tradition. Their vocal and dub interpretations of the former's "Tany Be" are particularly special. While the dub is little more than a killer spaced-out percussion track with added delay-laden vocal and instrumental snippets, the "remix" is a near perfect fusion of woozy, spacey deep house and traditional maloya - all half-chanted vocals, snaking sax lines and warm bass. Those looking for heavy and druggy, kick-drum driven tribal Afro-house vibes should head straight for the remix of Salem Tradition's "Kabare", which is little more than loads of drums with an evocative vocal atop.

Review: Fresh off the back of Cryptographic's intense 'Echo' release comes this fitting V/A from the ever-intriguing Swiss experimental 170 label Re:st. Music to realign our Covid-ravaged chakras to 'Re:align' introduces three new names to the label; Alternate Current steams out of the gates with a dub techno juggernaut 'Borrowed Language' while Dreadmaul & Tobe:n whip a rhythmic stampede that's screaming to be unleashed on a big system with 'Homunculus'. Flip for two slightly more cosmic tales as label founder LCP gently pats us down with the trickling lolloping loops of 'Off Limits' before Books signs us out with the sparse and skippy 'Cosine'. N5 From Outer Space (original Soundtrack) (7:58)
N5 From Outer Space (Summer remix) (7:13)
Funfare (original Soundtrack) (8:25)
Funfare (Summer remix) (9:58)
Review: Seattle's Medical Records kick off their new Transfusions sublabel with a 12" featuring Italian veterans Alexander Robotnick and Ludus Pinsky. "N5 From Outer Space" and "Funfare" were originally featured on the duo's overlooked 2009 CD The Analog Session, and are here presented alongside pulsating alternate versions (the 'Summer" remixes) that happily emphasize the acid influences previously played down on their original versions. Those previously released tracks gleefully update Robotnick's "robo-disco" blueprint for the Creme generation, adding the kind of sweaty, hard-wired intensity that no doubt plays well in Rotterdam basements. Of the pair, it's the ragged "N5 From Outer Space" that arguably hits home hardest, though there's a gleeful "Moroder-on-pills" feel about "Funfare" that's highly attractive.

Review: The Hyperdrive label is back with a third outing which once again offers up some exciting and forward-thinking new artists. Anderson's 'Sweet Psylow' kicks off with some psychedelic synth loops over crisp tech house drums that hark back to the 90s prog heyday. HearThuG's 'Back To The Future' is a darker sound with whistles, snappy snares and eerie chords and Luis Malon & Seb G then combine for the bouncing techno rhythms and acid-laced pads of 'Extasis Nebular.' Last but not least, Jamie Leather's 'Strange Commodities' is a surging cosmic techno trip with dynamic drums and perc and majestic leads. This is another fine release from this young label.

Review: Polarity keeps on the early pressure and quality it has shown over its first few releases with another searing EP that is aimed square at the floor. A quarter of different artists contribute to the '4 Intense Stories EP' and Giuseppe Angeloro opens up in bristling fashion with 'Sequenza Libera' a coarse acid workout. Cedric Dekowski's 'Roayal' has a more trippy take on techno with its unusual sci-fi energy and Luca Piermattei's 'Aerial Silk' has you in freefall as the synth sequences ride up and down the scale over mechanical beats. Thilo Dietrich shits down with a nice techno stomper with plenty of warped lines.

Review: Jungle heads strap in because this is some high grade, high octane tackle that id dense and physical and turned up to 100. Asymmetric kick off with 'Choppage' which is a potent breakbeat fusion with maximal sound designs and tight drum fills all demanding you make moves. Limit releases the pressure with a much more soulful and sparse jungle roller with rich, rubber bass and spine tingling vocals. Review: "I'm like a monkey with cocaine" goes the vocal on the opening tune here but that conjures up images of quite a riotous scene. In fact, the music is superbly seductive, cool and calm, with low slung disco funk, lush cosmic chords and a laidback, almost aloof vocal all soothing the soul and making for some nice dance floor intimacy. Review: Purple Print has become a strong player in the minimal scene in a short space of time, with the likes of Sepp, Delaj, Bisharat and Vid all offering their considerable wares into the growing catalogue since 2021. Their compilation 12" was just as on-point in 2023, and now they're back with a second volume which is not to be missed. Reach Out (3:28)
Review: After a 14-year absence, early '90s jazz-funk and street soul label Boogie Back Records returned to action last year which a superb slab of revivalist boogie from Cheri Maree. Here the London-based imprint continues in a similar vein via a fresh two-track "45" from in-house crew BB Soul and honey-voiced vocalist Laura Jackson. A-side "Make It Out" is superb: a wholehearted musical tribute to the smooth, synth-heavy sounds of 1980s soul rich in D-Train style synth bass, wild synth squiggles, warm Rhodes chords and authentic electric guitar flourishes - all topped off with a sublime Jackson vocal. Flipside "Reach Out" is a smoother, arguably even more soulful number that sits somewhere between early '80s electrofunk, mid-80s synth-soul and simmering British street soul. It, too, is impeccably performed and produced.

Also, Beyer's protege Layton Giordani had admired the mohawked Jones' work for as long as he could remember. When he got to DJ alongside him at Belfast's Shine - the spark and subsequent friendship was immediate. Review: In Waves is a new sub- or sister label from Lee Burridge's now well established All Day I Dream label. To be honest, stylistically, the music doesn't seem to vary too much from what you would expect on the partner imprint. It is dreamy, melancholic stuff with layers of musicality and zoned out grooves. Airy motifs, spring-day like charm and new age samples abound here on the three new tracks from Bona Fide and Luka Sambe. They are classy, elegant, orchestra, and perfect for the more mature house music lover.

Blue Binary Code EP
Boris Divider - "Gods Of Olympus" (5:35)

Lectromagnetique - "Space Coast" (5:40)
Francois Dillinger - "Agitated Particles" (5:17)
CH415 - "Spaze Modulations" (4:23)
Review: Binary thinking has been around since the invention of coinage in ancient times. Indeed, there are two sides to every coin, or slab of vinyl. It's this seeming representation of two poles - heads or tails, 0 or 1, the spiritual world and the physical - that has led us to polemicize them in art, exploring either extreme playfully. On one end of the extreme you've got ultra-lofty new age music. On the other end, there are releases like 'Blue Binary Code', in this case hailing from Spanish label and musical assembly line, Gladio Operations. Their camp specialise in the kind of merciless, rationally-calculating, dystopically functional, robotic electro we all know and love, and these four new tracks, adding once again to their prolifically generative output, range from the scientific and gnarly ('Agitated Particles') to the surreal and sanitized ('NH3'). Of course, what is electro but a mere Operation?

Bossibility - "Morphoder" (6:57)
Bossibility - "Devil Thigs" (4:13)
Look Perry - "Way To The Dance" (5:18)
Look Perry - "International Beats" (5:30)
Review: The latest from Bossibility and Look Perry on their Split Series is a precise, layered exploration of minimal and tech house that never quite settles in one place. Bossibility's contributions are subtle yet compelling, balancing clean rhythms with restrained complexity, particularly in 'Morphoder,' where the tension between the bassline and atmospheric layers steadily builds, leaving just enough space for the track to breathe. Look Perry's side offers a contrasting dynamicihis deep percussion on 'Way to the Dance' grounds the track, while 'International Beats' surges with a forward momentum that feels unpredictable, yet right on target. It's an unassuming yet compelling exchange of ideas and proof that simple elements, when handled with care, can pack a real punch.

Bow Street Runner - "Sex Tune 3" (5:30)
Lavery & Bow Street Runner - "Punani Mania" (5:08)
Lavery - "One Tune" (4:43)
Review: .The opening jam on this new EP from Sub Code has got it all - the driving breakbeats, the proper lush chords and the heart-aching r&b vocal sample, pitched up just enough. Bow Street Runner ensures they all coalesce into a standout tune that tugs at the emotions while also demanding you move your body. No wonder it's called 'Sex Tune 3.' Lavery & Bow Street Runner's 'Punani Mania' is just as super sweet with another brillaint vocal sample, tenderness in the piano chords and drive in the jungle rhythms. After that collaboration between Lavery & Bow Street Runner comes a Lavery solo 'One Tune', which is more naughty with air raid sirens, some mad mic work and warped bass filth.

Brain Killers - "Loving" (part 1)
Lewi - "Loving" (part 2)
Review: Back to 94! Kemet reissue a seminal slab of breakbeat soul in the form of 'Loving' from Brain Killers and their long-time collaborator Lewi Cifer. Both acts taking the same sample and twisting it in their own way to create two parts, DJ Apache and DJ Unknown's Brain Killers operation goes for more of a party swagger and strong hip-hop and ragga influences while Lewi (who attained the name and reputation of Lewi Screwface due to his previous collabs with the Brain Killers) goes for more of a brutalist drum funk vibe. Still sounding future as hell.

Review: Young but already promising label Small Great Things serves up a third instalment in its Small Great Tunes series and once again it is true to its name. This one assembles a series of interesting artists starting with Marc Brauner & Luca Olivotto's far sighted deep house dreamer 'Hallo Hallo'. In solo mode, Brauner offers more uplifting house with a great r&b voice sample and Olivotto pumps the party with the US garage of 'Love Moves'. The flip side keeps the good times flowing with vocal house from David Silver, a deep and bubbly groove cruise from Nephews and more raw jam from DJ Merci.

Tormento
Tormento (instrumental)
Review: A collaborative effort between composer and multi-instrumentalist Louis Fontaine, DJ and music supervisor Alix Brown and lyricist and writer Margo Fortuny. The tune draws on French and Italian Chanson (the likes of Fabrizio De Andre and Serge Gainsbourg), the cinematic soundscapes of Francois de Roubaix and late-70s disco. It's built up using vintage synthsizers and despite the patchwork blanket approach with influences, it's woven into something quite cohesive and magical. Singer Alix Brown has the voice to have made her a number one star in the 70s - she appears to have taken a Bill and Ted-esque adventure from another decade and does nostalgia superbly. It's an intoxicating listen and one to rinse on repeat.

Review: Discolidays kicks off its third release with this spicy little joint from The Reflex, the remixer par excellence who is given two juicy tracks to get busy with. On the A-side it's Bruise's 2022 track 'When Pianos Attack' which is being tweaked and pumped for maximum impact, while on the flip Lou Hayter gets the executive treatment via some seriously sophisticated disco house flexing from an expert in the field. With dub and full-fat versions to sink your teeth into, there's plenty of potency in this record to keep your party primed.

Review: Lee Burridge's All Day I Dream label is like the Ronseal of house music - it does what it says on the tin. It's been a while but at last the boss man himself is back on wax here, this time in collaboration with Los Desert across four fine tunes. 'Les Voyeurs De La Nuit' is a lovely jumbled-on scattered congas, toms and snaking synths that soon soothe the mind, body and soul. 'Slave To The Strings' is an elastic deep house cut with a busy melodic bassline and serene strings while 'You May Never Leave' is a sonic daydream tethered to a smooth, rolling house rhythm. 'Here With You' closes down with funky little guitar riffs stitched into another mind-expanding and gorgeously airy groove.

Review: Red Laser Records continue their stellar form with another knockout release, blending Manctalo fire from old hands and fresh faces alike. Frank Butters opens the EP with The Call Of The Wild, a dazzling blast of crystalline synths, thunderous bass, and cosmic effects that showcase his forward-thinking production skills. Bob Swans delivers 'Bodyform4U', a dreamy arpeggiated groove that builds an uplifting, futuristic atmosphere, perfect for igniting the dancefloor. This one Deep Series 1.3, kicks off with Caim's impossibly smooth and cool electro-tinged trip 'Straight No Chaser' with its mellifluous pads and deft drums. Mathijs Smit offers a more physical but still warm sound with 'Abducted' and then Joey Anderson shows his class with a grimy and dubby roller, 'All Around Us.' Rich P/Lee's 'Clown Inc' (vocal mix) brings a little playful funk and Pim's 'Somethings On My Mind' is another breezy and cathartic cut.

Review: Nug-Net.com is an ingenious idea for a website - simply sell nuggets online. Nuggets of what, though? Gold? Weed? Music production expertise? Raw banger ore? We'd wager it's the latter; the story goes that in 2021 during the coronavirus pandemic, the website's mastermind Gene On Earth created his production masterclass 'Nuggets: The Blueprint'. Signing up a select crew of students to submit their music shortly after finishing the course, the class of 2022 is said to have overcome expectations and birthed this digital compilation - the first of five vinyl releases to come out over the course of 2023. Slinky and cheeky house numbers move across acid and breakbeat; perfect sonic accompaniments for surfing the weirder corners of the internet. Review: This new collection offers up a quartet of tracks that are all tailored for slightly different moments on the dance floor. On side A, Dani Casarano kicks off with deep, hypnotic grooves that make for an immersive atmosphere before transitioning to punchy, bass-driven energy with other cuts. Side B introduces a new alter ego from Felian and Bruno Schmidt and the pair explore a robotic, looping groove with incidental breaks and nostalgic synths in the euphoric third track. Jiletta Riley - "The Way It Was" (Marquis Hawkes Classic club vocal) (6:57)
Review: There's little better, house-wise at least, than vintage Kerri Chandler productions, though these fresh remixes of tracks by the New York maestro would certainly run them close. German producer Henrik Schwarz steps up first to re-imagine Chandler and Jerome Sydenham's "Powder" as a fluid but hypnotic chunk of building, synthesizer-heavy house in his usual melodic, tech-tinged style, before D'Julz turns in a wonderfully warm, locked-in revision of "Peace of Mind" full of drum machine handclaps, woozy chords and fizzing electronics. Over on side B you'll find a superb Kettama Garage mix of Lafayette's Chandler-produced classic "Better Late Than Never" - think late '90s UK speed garage and you're close - as well as a partoculalry reverential take on Jiletta Riley jam "The Way It Was" by Marquis Hawkes.

Review: A compelling compilation that delves deep into the cosmos of techno, offering four tracks that each explore different atmospheric dimensions. On Side-1, Charlou's 'Hidefaces' sets a dark, spooky tone with its stomping beats, blending elements of techno, industrial and 90s rave sounds. It's a haunting journey that captures the raw, visceral energy of underground techno. Mar C follows with 'Wentron', a spacey breakbeat track characterised by its crisp production, which elevates the atmosphere with a futuristic edge. Side-2 opens with Lanzieri's 'Vogue', a track that brings a touch of goa-trance influence, combining ethereal melodies with powerful basslines, making it feel like a cosmic flight through sound. Kvrk's 'Haunted Illusions' closes the EP with a progressive house touch, providing a deep, entrancing groove that muystifies. With chilling textures and an ear for material, sonic grit, a cloister of ten producers are heard going full Eski-mode here, for the first instalment in their yearly compilation, Alpine Express Volume 1. Aptly described as a set of "dancefloor hurters", this is a record that proves the mid-European enclave still have their ears to the ground: pree the classic trance-techno of Marcism's 'Echo' or Ermatik's 'Funk Alt Delight', The Chronics' restlessly fight-or-flight revenant, 'Sonic Memory', and/or TIS' closing jit-tech piano weapon 'I Don't Mind'.

Released on Harlem Shuffle Records, this 7" vinyl brings back the sought-after 1973 track that seamlessly blends reggae with a touch of ska, adding an extra layer of allure for fans of the genre.
