Gemini Era
Cat: BTR 02. Rel: 17 Feb 25

Deep House
XTC (5:47)
Gemini Era (6:17)
Slowtide (93 Theme) (3:13)
Interstate (M1 mix) (4:21)
Jia's Dance (4:25)
Birds Of Prey (5:00)
Review: Some 18 months on from the launch of his Better Together Records imprint, Sydneysider Chech is finally ready to deliver another expansive EP. Standing six tracks deep, Gemini Era tends towards the loved-up, saucer-eyed and gently psychedelic, with colourful melodic motifs aplenty and tons of audible references to early progressive house, ambient house and ambient techno. There's plenty to admire, from the spacey, analogue-rich dreaminess of 'XTC' and 'Gemini Era', to the low-tempo ambient techno head-nod of 'Slowride (93 Theme)' and the dusty, piano-rich deep house of 'Interstate (M1 Mix)'. Elsewhere, 'Jia's Dance' sees the Aussie explorer wrap vintage New Jersey garage-house sounds around a punchy breakbeat, while 'Birds of Prey' is a dubby chunk of sunset-ready dancefloor bliss.

Horizons (12")
Cat: ADIDIW 009. Rel: 01 Mar 24

Deep House
Horizons (feat Weam Ismail) (8:03)
Your Sand (feat Amega) (7:45)
Resonate Me (feat Amega) (7:54)
Resonate Me (feat Amega - Ambient version) (7:20)
Review: The In Waves label is fast approaching its tentth release but before that it turns once again to Flowers On Monday for this lush new four track EP featuring Amega and Weam Ismail. It's the rousing and hymnal sounds of 'Featuring Amega And Weam Ismail.' that open up with loose, interwoven grooves and stirring melodies all topped off by the prayer-like vocals of Ismail. 'Your Sand' (feat Amega) is another dreamy deep house jaunt and 'Resonate Me' (feat Amega) is a spine tinging and angelic electronic lullaby that gets served up in a superb ambient version.

Review: Anthony Naples is a revered album specialist by now. Orbs is his fifth full-length and one he describes as "a moody portal of shoegazed and slo-mo songs suspended in thin air." The New York City native really taps into new territory here, expanding the sound you might expect from him with all new samples, instruments and liquid synths. Drum beats are scant and rhythms move slowly, unfolding with great depth and narrative as you are left to do plenty of thinking while suspended amongst the details. It is another immersive listen, high in texture and beautiful in execution.

Minimal/Tech House
Back To The Future (8:50)
Kin 182 (8:01)
Review: When it comes to producing undulating, club-friendly tech-house and micro-house shufflers, Silat Beksi has a pretty good track record. We can confirm that this 12" - his first for Pleasure Zone following appearances on a string of like-minded labels - is similarly rock solid. On the A-side you'll find the deep and rolling "Back to the Future", where fluttering, outer-space ambient synths drift around a crunchy tech-house rhythm track rich in fizzing electronics and solid snares. Flipside "Kin 182" is, if anything, even deeper. Featuring a bolder bassline, dreamier chords and a breakbeat-driven house beat, it's arguably the more satisfying of the two tunes (though we wouldn't be surprised if more DJs champion the similarly impressive A-side).
