Review: ***B-STOCK: Record ever so slightly warped, but otherwise in perfect working condition***

No one works a mixing board quite like Joe Clasusell, and his latest project is another high water mark in a career full of them: his Claussell Edits & Overdubs version of Crowns of Glory's 'Lord Look at Your People' is getting put out on a series of 12"s, with this third one being another winner. Bishop Jeff Banks & The Revival Temple Mass Choir offer up two versions of 'Jerusalem' on the a-side, and the reverse is 'God Helps Those Who Help Themselves' by The Gospelaires Of Dayton, O. Both are intense, emotive, life affirming affairs to bring joy to any dance floor.

Mental Remedy - "Loveless" (One Guitar demo) (7:38)
The Bayara Citizens - "Kalimba" (5:26)
Alejate (First dub Piano take) (6:46)
The Bayara Citizens - "Elektrik Afrika" (Talking Drum demo) (5:54)
Review: There is something of an irony to the name Joaquin Joe Claussell has given this new Manifestations series on his own Sacred Rhythm label. Why? Well he is a master of long form remixes, tunes that go on for ten-minutes plus and take you on involving trips that at least seem never-ending. Anyway, Long Versions EP 1 it is, and a fine one it is too. There are jubilant carnival house sounds packed with percussion from Mental Remedy, Kalimba showcases that take you deep into a tropical jungle from The Bayara Citizens and more airy, heady deep house from Alejate and afro-drumming excellence on a second tune from The Bayara Citizens.

Teenage Music - "The Bargain" (16:07)
Forest Electrik - "Freedum" (10:24)
Forest Electrik - "Circuitry Haywire" (3:25)
Review: Joe Claussell's mythical Sacred Rhythm has to be without a doubt one of the best and most reliable house labels around, and having a listen back through its catalogue immediately made us think that this dude was doing outsider house before the term house had even been coined - that's right, hear this! Residual Three is Joe stepping up under different monikers, first as Teenage Music with the loose, vocal-driven house amalgam that is "The Bargain", followed by "Freedum" on his Forest Elektrik name - a bouncy, synth-heavy dance experimentation - and a completely distorted, near beatless jam under the same name, entitled "Circuitry Haywire". Dopeness embodied.

Joaquin Joe Claussell - "Erratic Telepathy (The Cosmic Arts Interpretation)" (7:02)
The Ricky Corey Collective - "Who Do You Love" (Josh Honeycomb extended Basement dub) (8:50)
Review: Spiritual endurance tester Joaquin "Joe" Claussell returns for another topup for the Yellow Jackets series. Volume Eight is yet another heliotropic hummer, with the two ingenious progressive, naturalisti-house cuts found thereon (two new versions of 'Erratic Telepathy' and 'Who Do You Love', the latter by Josh Honeycomb) bringing much tweezy and brain-furthering motif to the two-side mix form. The first track is especially impressive for the counterpoint set up between the right-panned marimba and the left-panned filter-synth, the latter of which dances like a magic firefly against the former's lemni-spatial mallet-bed. The B-sider is much more soulful, bringing interspersive vocals and subtle hat layering to a an all-out funky freakout.

Myrna Summers & The Combined Choirs Of The Refreshing Strings - "So Much To Live For" (Joe Claussell Underground Ministry) (5:14)
Bishop Jeff Banks & The Revival Temple Mass Choir - "Jerusalem" (Joe Claussell Hymn) (8:29)
Review: Spiritual house diviner Joaquin "Joe" Claussell reissues his latest song of praise for the frankly named Gospel Music According To Joe Claussell imprint, documenting two obscure but rhapsodic ecstasies in kick-pumping form, this time on transparent 12" blue vinyl. First up is Myrna Summers' 'So Much To Live For', an affirmation to which Claussell testifies his allegiance through swirling piano backings and hand-clapping encomia. Then there's Bishop Jeff Banks with 'Jerusalem', to which Claussell leads a responsive liturgical hymn, mind-zapping us right on back to said promised land through rising walking basses and glorious sampled hollers.

La Mezcla (Charles Webster club mix) (7:39)
Review: It's (almost) summertime which means all bets are off, sets get more playful, DJs slacken their own usual rules and reach into a wider world of vocal, uplifting sounds to please sun burnt dancers. Enter this reissue of Michel Cleis's stone-cold Ibiza classic 'La Mezcla.' It's got a chunky groove, fluttering flutes that bring Latin flair and carnival vibes aplenty. This 12" also comes with two remixes - Paul Kalkbrenner flips it into a deeper, more loose and languid groove with tribal funk and the Charles Webster club mix is pure warm and soulful goodness.

Rosa Red - "Rhapsody" (Known Artist remix) (5:06)
Third Son & Baldo - "This Is Your Brain On Music" (5:12)
Review: 'Selected Label Works 11' from Permanent Vacation offers a top-tier selection of deep house gems that span Balearic, leftfield and nostalgic 90s influences. Clint's 'Bliss Science' opens with a classic piano house sound, boosted by a heavy 90s-style techno break, capturing a warm, nostalgic vibe. Aldonna's 'Pisa 97' takes a more melodic techno route, showing off crisp production and a dreamy progression that feels perfectly suited for deep listening. Sam Goku's 'Walking Drums' is tribal and atmospheric, punctuated by a wicked drop that infuses energy into its hypnotic rhythm. Rosa Red's 'Rhapsody', reworked by Known Artist, delivers a futuristic, epic trance sound reminiscent of early 90s rave euphoria. Rounding out the compilation, Third Son & Baldo's 'This Is Your Brain On Music' leans into late-night acid trance and techno, creating a deep, pulsing vibe for darker hours. This compilation is a deep house journey brimming with genre-spanning textures and rich grooves.

Review: First up, you really need to check the original version of "We Start Over" from Fila Brazilia man Steve Cobby that International Feel also issued on 12" this week as it's a wonderful piece of music that really highlights Trudie Dawn Smith's beautiful vocals. Here Gerd Janson and Phil Lauer go to town on the track twice under their Tuff City Kids alias, offering up a pair of diverse remixes that are aimed for the club spaces. The Private Acid remix lives up to its name with the German pair treating that vocal to some excellent looping tactics whilst the Garage Dub sees them call on the spirit of classic New York house.

Review: The third round of VA goodness on Sengiley is here, featuring another cast of emergent and established talent tapping up the true spirit of deep house music. Alessio Collina brings a flawless flex to chunky thumper 'Old Habits', while Brine brings some seriously soulful bump to 'Keep On Doin' Right' and DJ Rou ramps up the spiritual swirl with stirring vocal cut 'Love The Truth'. On the flip, Thabo & Ivanu have plenty to say with the moody, simmering 'Just Tonight' while Manuel Sahagun slows things down and turns up the intensity on plush warm-up cut 'What You Gave'. LDF & Javonntte get into the heaviest joint on the record, as the harmonica makes an unlikely appearance on 'Strictly Underground'.

Review: The third vinyl release of the year from Blur Records sees three distinguished producers - ColorJaxx, T.Markakis and Manuel Kane - sharing duties, each delivering a track each but with the distinctive, music-centred 'deep house fusion' flavour of the Blur label very much at their heart. ColorJaxx's 'I Know You' kicks off proceedings in upbeat mood, goaded along by a skippy garage beat, some beautiful piano work and arresting male vocals. 'Ain't Like That' by T.Markakis rolls slower and deeper, clouds of warm synth giving it a reassuring, dub feel, while Manuel Kane's 'Funk' boasts a cheery, end-of-evening sparkle with its hypnotic vocal samples and gentle sirens. Quality without pretention whichever way you turn.

The Scepters - "Message" (3:51)
Review: Discodelic comes correct again with a new 7" that features a pair of rather lesser-known and brilliantly obscure Latin psych-rock gems. Conjunto Raza' 'African Dream' is all crackly and immediately nostalgic because of it, with noodle acoustic guitar sounds making way for a more upbeat and driving 60s garage rock sound but all in loveable lo-fi. Add in a red-hot vocal and you have a flame cut full of funk. On the reverse, The Scepters 'Message' is another well-aged jam that brings rawness and emotion in equal measure.

The Scepters - "Message" (3:50)
Review: The Scepters, formed in 1967 in Paraiso by guitarist Celso Spencer, were a popular Panamanian band known for their energetic performances across military bases and high school dances in the Canal Zone. Alongside Lionel Best and Jose James, they covered Top 40 hits and iconic rock bands like Santana and Jimi Hendrix. They released two 45s, including 'Message,' which debuted at Panama's first National Soul Music Festival in 1971 and features next here to a jam from Conjunto Raza, another project led by Agustin Leiro, this one with rotating musicians. They released a single 45 on Onda Nueva in the mid-70s and it blends Zonian and Panamanian talent with aplomb.

Review: Given that Hard Fist's first two releases hit home hard, hopes are naturally high for the imprint's third 12". Whereas releases one and two were solo EPs, Princes of Abzu is something of an all-star affair. Label founders Cornelius Doctor and Tushen Rai join forces for the excellent, Acid Arab-esque opener "Place Du Pont", while Jakam's superb "Tribes" brilliantly joins the dots between Afro-house, Middle Eastern exotica and, most thrillingly of all, spiritual jazz. Elsewhere, Shadi Khries' "Semsemeh" is a dark and atmospheric chunk of psychedelic acid-jack and Timothy Clerkin's fuzzy and aggressive "Akama" is a mid-altering analogue chugger.

Review: Late last year the Wolf Music crew launched a dedicated vinyl only series in triumphant fashion with the double dose of Red Rack' Em that was In Love Again. Evidently looking to maintain a high profile for this new endeavour, the second release in the series features the talented duo that is Creative Swing Alliance! If you've shaken a leg at a recent Wolf Music gig you'll no doubt be familiar with "In My Arms" from Pabs Valentine and his fellow Creative Swinger Steven Joyce Ames, a sublime arrangement where percussion rattles away with just a hiss of distortion, complemented by filtered M1 stabs, a beefy bassline and some fierce vocal hooks. Heading up the B Side is Wolf cub Thrillogy; don't be put off by the chilly title, "Arctic" is actually all about the warmth that resonates from those huge synth lines.

It arrives after the man Dam has been wowing with pal Rich McMaster under the General Ludd name for Mister Saturday Night, Clan Destine Traxx and Autonomous Africa and continues the general vibe of those but with the addition of a many-limbed organic thrum that is most evident underneath the twinkling synths of "Heavy Velvet Affair". Apparently hand stamped by Gold Panda himself too!!!

This sampler - the full compilation stretches to two mixed discs - boasts some seriously good house music. Chuck Daniels, Claude Young & Mike Clark - "Three Waves" (6:00)
Andres - "Woman Cry" (4:52)
Tracey Cooper - "Insight" (8:14)
Review: Detroit native Chuck Daniels is the man behind this all-star EP from the long running but less-than-prolific Sampled Recordings imprint. Daniels stars on side A, first hooking up with old pal Oliver Dollar for the Amp Fiddler-sporting post-fidget, tech-tinged deep house bump of "Do It", before roping in fellow Michigan producers Claude Young and Mike Clark for the low-slung, R&B-sampling late night bump of "Three Waves". Over on the flipside, high profile Detroiter steps up with the brilliant, sunshine-friendly business of "Woman Cry" - all snappy drums, rich soulful vocal samples and breezy piano solos - while Tracey Cooper wraps thought-provoking spoken word samples around an analogue-rich deep house groove with predictably strong results.

Review: The Uducha label showcases its fifth release with a various artist EP housing cuts from a mixed bag of names. Alex Danilov, Brother G and Yuri Shulgin team up for a triple collab resulting in the track "Untitled", a swerving and fruity mix of flutes, chimes, pads and dusty drums. A5 makes use of some Ray Manzarek keys, sampling the Doors "Riders On The Storm", layering some noisy electronics over the top, while Kurvenschreiber keeps things psychedelic with some Krautrock styled synthesis in "Leitweg". Trueman then debuts on Uducha 5 with a whimsical and cool summer sounding "Odyssey Saga".

Review: Landing on a hand-stamped, blue marble and limited edition 12" are four more deep and dubbed out house tunes from the latest instalment of Mireia's We'll Sea series. Das Komplex kicks off with a serious aqueous rhythm drenched in waves of synth with a pained vocal sample that really makes it stick in your mind. Tecwaa knocks it back even further to a slow motion underwater dub current that gently moves you to a state of bliss. 'Nebula' from Achim Maerz is more upright and upbeat, with bright chords shining through the vast groove caverns as neat chords dance up top. 'Sky Waves' closes out in warm, rough edged lo-fi deep house fashion.

Review: This is how you do timeless.... You get two OG artists to open up both sides of your 12". On the A we have William Rosario's legendary DAT Project with a light-footed jam that jacks up neatly with classic the classic rolling snares that only a man who cut his teeth in the early 90s. Similarly on the B we have Transitive Elements who also came through a series of warehouse shakers in the early 90s. With warm keys and a sweet drum shuffle, it's as authentic as it can possibly be. Complete with two star-lit soul-touched grooves from MLH's Victor & Christian, this really is an exceptional deep house document.

Review: Leeds-born session Hearlucinate makes the leap to wax with a special series of 12"s that correspond to line-ups for parties in London, spearheaded by resident Tristan da Cunha. On this first release, Dawl shores up on the A side and sets the bar very high indeed with the killer bleep techno stylings of "Energy Overdrive" and the tough, punchy electro of "Cyborg". Da Cunha himself follows up on the B side with the equally tough and thumping "Move (Let Me See U)", a seedy and sensual peak timer if we ever heard one. Freakenstein completes the set with a rabble-rousing booty bass beat down that will appeal to those who likes their electro fast and nasty.

Review: Perpetual Rhythms is already well-regarded as a bastion of quality amongst contemporary Chicago house labels, and now they've downright sealed the deal with this mammoth compilation from a stellar cast of local cats. There's too many to all list in detail here, so focusing on the highlights, Dcee leads things in with the tumbling cosmic jazz leanings of "Suavecito," Hakim Murphy teases with a spacious and daring exploration in the liminal zone between ambient and house, and Obsolete Music Technology gets invigorating with the bouncy "High Top Fade." Those tracks alone are enough to deserve your hard earned, but there's reams of other excellent forward-facing Windy City jams to sink your teeth into.

Review: It's been 18 months since Fundamental Sounds last touched wax but they're making up for it with a four track homage to the first emperor of China's reincarnating, time-leaping warriors. Every track hits with heritage and the right level of drama. Dcook takes the lead with dream Detroitian tones and textures while Diego Perrisson gets his eerie acid wriggle on while Taelue brings a little sentimentality to the blend with a swooning cut that wouldn't have gone amiss in DJ Gregory's armoury years ago. Takahiro Fuchigami - "Outer Heaven" (5:35)
Review: Stefano De Santis kicks off Ten Lovers' new 'Best Of Various' release with 'Murk'; as the name suggests, this is indeed a dark workout from Rome's finest. The tone is set thereout for a thoroughly varied V/A, blending every curious hallmark from jazzdance, G-funk, Chicago house and progressive. The opener is a muted but no less expansive start, establishing the broken, one-beat-eliding, live-drummy mood that is then heard throughout. Batavia Collective's 'Rearview' thematically harks after an unconscious joy, considering what can only be implied, not stated, by way of a gorgeous, what sounds to be largely live, modal synth squeezer on which the slowdown is the real highlight. Future Jazz Ensemble's 'Over The Rainbow' is by far the most challenging, blurring any woulda-been established lines popularly splitting 'live' and 'electronic' with a reverb-drenched generative fill workout, while closer 'Outer Heaven' from Takahiro Fuchigami, hailing from Fukuoka, rounds things off on a note of Hancockian jive.

For this one the label draws on assured artistic talent from all over. Deenamic's 'Fear's manages to be a nice basement party jam but also oozes a sense of jazz-funk cool. Review: After Oli Furness kicked off NDV with his own Need A Friend EP, the label comes back for round two with a whole host of different characters looking to lay down some driving contemporary house. Deep Space Orchestra get stuck into a refined acid bubbler, plush strings and guitar licks melting into the squelchy 303 for a decidedly smooth ride with some choice peaks and troughs. Tim Vita and Oliver Gehrmann head for a more crisp approach that centres on a warm chord refrain and unfussy drums behind it, while James Welsh gets all sleazy with the low end throb of "Leatherman" looking to kick it deep into the night. Furness himself rounds the EP off with the big room rave stylings of "The Hare & The Peacock".

Defaultman & Sapurra serve up some warming basement vibes that get you on your toes and ready for more, which then comes from Max Telaer who gets your head amongst the clouds with his swirling, nebulous pads and nicely programmed, skipping kicks. Review: Launched last summer, the 124Black series has been a fine addition to the more established 124Recordings label that promotes a darker, harder sound whilst remaining firmly rooted in the underground. A third release on the series retains the focus on new and upcoming producers with Demuja, The Knight Cats, Tijn, and Jekyll all present. Building on the raw and crisp style of house shown on numerous digi releases, Demuja sets the tone perfectly with the stripped back throbbing delight that is "Everytime", whilst Paris duo The Knight Cats add some '90s flavour with the excellent "We Know That". Tijn arrives on 124Black after impressing with a recent outing on Djebali and "Diss You" is a fine B side burner along with Jekyll's rattling 'Transition Dub'.

Following his own launch release earlier this year Matteo now brings some friends along for this up-tempo V/A ride. Turin new-gen queen Denaila takes the lead with a bouncy acid party starter before Matteo gets contemplative and silky on the Fabrice Lig flavoured 'Fusions Of Love' and the mysteriously monikered newcomer / secret alias The Hush brings the EP to woozy close with whimsical bubbling sines. Point proved.

Review: Endless Flight has done us all a favour by shining a light on the little-known work of French zouk maestro Jacob F Deviscaux. Here, they round of their retrospective series of "anthology" releases with another red-hot three-tracker. Side-one begins with "Rifyx", a wonderfully summery, horn-laden concoction from the musician's 1985 album Oh Madina that somehow joins the dots between jazz-funk, zouk and disco, before continuing with Deviscaux's 1982 Afro-funk/synth-boogie/electro-zouk production for vocalist Tala. Best of all, though, is Kuniyuki's stupendously celebratory flipside re-edit of "Rifyx", which turns the all-too-short original into an eight-minute slab of audio sunshine.

Known as World Got Soul, the series begins via FIngier's first collaborations with Brazilian jazz singer Josi Dias. She's in fine form on A-side 'Um Brilho Novo', a superb slab of jazz-tinged Brazilian soul rich in energetic funk breaks, mazy vibraphone and flute solos, heavy bass and razor-sharp guitar licks. Even more energetic and dancefloor-ready is flipside 'Rua Nova Barao', a fine fusion of South American dancefloor jazz, funk breaks and sweaty samba rhythms. Volume three kicks off via the chunky, bass-heavy bounce and fizzing, Todd Edwards style cut-up melodic snippets of Scott Diaz and Timmy P's "True Blue", before Never Dull takes us further towards classic deep house territory courtesy of the bustling brilliance of "United, Under One Roof". Elsewhere, Finest Wear's "That '90s Groove" is an ear-pleasing slab of 1990s U.S house revivalism, while Colorjaxx's energetic closer "One Night In The City" adds Mike Dixon/Greenskeepers style filtered jazz samples to a chunky Chi-town beat.

Review: Italy's Die Roh have come a long way since their first release for Vae Victis back in 2012 alongside Blawan, releasing plenty of militant house and techno with a rugged, analogue feel that sits just right with us. They're up on Axe Traxx this time for the label's second outing, and they're joined by newcomer Trudge. The former delivers a deep, lean deep house chugger in "Coming Out", relatively more docile than their previous material but it's still cut-throat enough to sound booming on a system and provoke a series of bodies to start moving thanks, in part, to its kinetic percussion rhythm and sublime keys. Trudge come through with "Give", a sludgy house monster with a brittle drum flex and banging toms built for destructive DJ use. On the flip of the wax plate, Die Roh are back with the funkier, more uplifting house bullet "Her First Time", but "Series 7" by Trudge is the killer on here, the shadiest house tune of them all that reminds us of Greg Beato at his very best. This is one hell of a tip - don't miss it.

Pitch Black City aka Kenny Dixon Junior & Roberta Sweed - "Runaway"
Review: Most people will be sold 'Kung Fu' (Mahogani) based on a 2 minute bit at the end of side b. Pitch Black City was a loose collaborative entity with several Detroit musicians, including percussionist Andrés, vocalist Roberta Sweed and keyboardist Amp Fiddler. A one-sided 12" credited to Pitch Black City appeared on Mahogani in 2003; and PBC was featured on a track on Moodymann's 'Silence in the Secret Garden' LP, released the same year on Peacefrog. This is one of those KDJ tracks that has a spacey intro with a breathy spoken word piece, followed by a short, typically Kenny, house track. Now, we'll direct your attention as well to the two Dirtbombs tracks that comprise the bulk of this EP. The Dirtbombs are one of Detroit legend Mick Collins' many post-Gories projects. Other than consistently loud volumes and lots of noise, the Dirtbombs actually had a surprisingly diverse sound, comprising a broad spectrum of styles from garage rock, punk and glam to classic soul and R&B. The a-side track is a dubbed out garage-ska rocker, really loud and in-your-face. The b-side is a gritty funk-rock number that will play on some more adventurous floors, but most of this record will play better to rock audiences than to typical house ones.
