Ode Ireti (5:42)
Ode Ireti (Amapiano edit) (3:30)
Ode Ireti (Nitefreak remix) (6:27)
Ode Ireti (Deroos remix) (6:07)
Review: MoBlack continues to champion the best Afro house with this latest drop from &friends, El Jay and Oluwadamvic. 'Ode Ireti' appears here in four different versions, leading in with the original mix which comes bathed in sultry piano and an understated rhythmic roll perfect for sundown moments. The 'Amapiano Edit' unsurprisingly refigures the groove for all your log drum needs, and then Nitefreak jumps in on the flip for a smouldering deep house version and then Deroos brings his own tracky energy and moody chords to the table to complete a highly workable track served four ways.

Starlight (feat Tyesha Blount) (6:00)
Matador Beach (instrumental) (3:27)
Matador Beach (vocal mix) (2:47)
Review: Word on the street is that Alister is the next big thing to come out of the Motor City. The song writer and producer must be hotly tipped, frankly, because the one and only Omar S has taken him under his wing and recorded and mixed these two new tunes, which are tasters from his full length album to come in the spring. They bare all his hallmarks too - crunchy, dusty drums, rugged chord vamps and prickly perc. 'Starlight' is all that with an added vocal, while 'Matador Beach' is more trippy and nocturnal, with a delicate falsetto lost in pinball melodies and ricocheting hits.

Jhobei & Oliver R - "What's On Then" (6:31)
Love & Charleze - "IC3D" (6:44)
Review: Party starting outfit Bizarre is back with another offering of leftfield club cuts. The A-side of this one has been carefully curated by founding members Felon5 & B.Love. Their cosmic house excursion starts with the playful robot funk of 'The Talkbox Track' and then takes in the silky space tech of 'M Is For Muff' which is effortlessly cool. Jhobei & Oliver R then step up with 'What's On Then' which is another mix of warped bass and neon synth lines over popping tech funk and then Love & Charleze conspire to send you home on a nice warm hearted disco tech vibe with their 'IC3D' featuring some super synth expressions.

Damian Rausch, Chez Damier & H2H - "Together" (dub mix) (5:53)
Oscide - "No Use" (5:56)
Review: House of Chez is the new label from the legendary American deep house pioneer Chez Damier. It follows involvement with the seminal Prescription with Ron Trent in the 90s, then his own Balance, and finds him once again serving up super fresh grooves. He appears himself on 'Together' with his French studio partner as H2H and also Damian Rausch and the tune is pure and steamy house deepness. Elsewhere Emanuele Barilli gets dreamy with 'Unconscious Relief', there is a soulful vocal to the dry beats of Mosis's 'Pick It Up' and Oscide's 'No Use' is a little more prickly and direct.

Basic Bastard - "Drama" (Orlando Voorn remix) (6:58)
Orlando Voorn - "Survival" (6:36)
Review: Eclectic technoizer Basic Bastard locks arms with Detroiter Orlando Voorn, their dual sonic output being the new 'Drama' EP. The three-tracker is nothing short of a sonic adventure, spanning acid, to dub, to uncategorisable entrainments. Bastard's original 'Drama' nails the art of the acid loop, a tricky tactic that is much less masterable than one might think. Voorn remixes the track my miring its elements in a cruddy ambience, while also greedily occupying the entire B-side with the urban-hellish jazz-noise-house cut 'Survival'.

Review: Cult Edits are specialists in pushing a certain kind of heater, working in a mode landing something between edit and original. Six producers - Mario Bianco, Tomoo Hata, Roe Deers, Radial Gaze, A Tweed and Oltrefuturo - lay down a blend of sampledelic, ecstatic, multi-tempo'd tribal moods. Channelling everything from chic Tulum rituals to the brutalism of Eastern-European underground clubs, and rounded off by doses of Italian rasta and Japanese re-imagining of Hungarian folk song, all come to the label's exquisite brand of mandala-esque vinyl.

Eric OS - "Navigator" (5:18)
Review: Phosphor continues its vinyl-only series with a vibrant tribute to the golden age of 2000s electro. This four-track release traverses the spectrum of the genre, from sun-soaked melodies to dark, club-ready cuts. Blue Vision, the duo behind the label, sets the stage with 'Making Up My Mind', a quintessential electro track brimming with groovy basslines, soaring melodies, and relentless drums. Parisian talent Occibel delivers another dancefloor gem with 'Shake The Future', a vibrant banger fueled by catchy melodies and infectious percussion. Kolter takes the helm on the B-side, venturing into darker territory with 'Electronic Mind', a haunting and evocative track driven by powerful vocals and mesmerizing melodies. Eric OS closes the release with 'Navigator', a journey through diverse influences, blending hard-hitting rhythms with moments of introspection and hope. 'Exploration Begins' is a testament to the enduring appeal of electro, showcasing both its timeless qualities and its potential for future evolution.

Review: Following on from his recent collaborative outing with Jonasclean, James Curd now finds himself working with the deep house legend and Yoruba master Osunlade on a new track for Get Physical. 'Chocolate Puddin'' is a joyous and organic cut with life-affirming vocals that borrow heavily from gospel while Afro-house synths and drums unfold below. Three remixes take it into different territory with Kai Alce offering his signature smoothness, a Yoruba Soul mix going big on the lush chords and FNX Omar getting tribal. All in all, it adds up to a varied package and another great outing for Curd.

Review: Soul meets speed garage on this new V/A EP from Z Records, blurring the lines between the genres in just the way we like it. The opening track - Grant Nelson's mix of 'Starlight' by Dave & Omar - is a euphoric, piano-laced uplifter which both sonically and lyrically urges us to reach for the sky. That's followed by the DJ Fudge production 'Everything' by Chocolate Fudge Band, featuring lots of live instrumentation and a Curtis Mayfield style vocal, while over on the flip, 'Looking For You' proves to be a deep and bouncy cut filled with soulful Motown vocal chops and an organ workout worthy of any Sunday service, over a beautifully wonky house framework.

Review: After years spent serving up tasty, digital-only singles, Polish imprint That's Right Dawg Music finally makes its vinyl bow via a six-track mini-album featuring some of their most-checked catalogue cuts. Demarkus Lewis kicks things off via the carefully crafted disco-house release of 'TGIF', before Federfunk slams down the jazz-sampling peak-time punchiness of 'We Keep It Groovin' and Jazzmik offers up the funky deep house bounce of 'Get Him Outta Here'. Over on the reverse, Oggie B cannily combines mind-mangling electronic stabs, pumping beats and orgasmic vocal samples ('Steady Old Foot'), Makson makes great use of vintage rap and disco guitar samples on the energy-packed house thump of 'Last Man Standing', and Casserta and Jonny C join forces on the bass-heavy garage-house bump of 'Party #1'.

Lauer - "Bigs" (6:36)
Octo Octa - "Running" (5:29)
Violence FM & The Underground Soulsavers - "Soleil Mauve" (11:41)
Review: Having previously danced "Under the Garage" and "Under The Loft", old pals DJ Sprinkles and Hardrock Striker are now throwing shapes beneath "The Ballroom" on this third and final part of the exclusive vinyl series accompanying their celebratory Skylax House Explosion mix CD. Fittingly, there's a trio of tracks to choose from, beginning with the tactile, loved-out dream house chords, fluttering FM synthesizer melodies and rubbery, retro-futurist Balearic house grooves of Lauer's "Bigs". Octa Octa steals the show with the alternately chiming and dreamily deep "Running" - all eyes-closed synthesizer melodies, elongated chords, cut-up vocals and snappy drum machine percussion - while "Soleil Mauve" by Violence FM and The Underground Soulsavers is an effortlessly good chunk of dreamy, melodious and ultra-deep house.

Review: Novaj Records is a brand new label that looks to put out music from artists associated with Novaj media. The first various artists Episcopalian entitled 'International Love' which they say is "a universal message of peace. The musical vibrations that reverberate through our lives are universal." Musically it is spot on, with a euphoric rush of house from DJOKO kicking off before Oden & Fatz then cut it up with 2step influences on their richly melodic 'Late Blooming As An Art.' "Track 1" works around sizzling drums, emotive bass and a diverse spread of melodic sources for a simple and direct slice of analogue house. First up, the boss himself offers up an extended mix of Groove Armada's legendary 'Get Down' which is full of rave stabs and big vocals. Illyus & Barrientos offer the synth laced and peak time sounds of 'When You Gonna' and David Penn & Offiah combine for the supersized piano house rollercoaster that is 'Satisfied' complete with big hooky vocals. You Can Do It (HH 2023 rework) (6:40)
You Can Do It (HH Get On The Floor mix) (6:20)
Review: Second time around for Harlem Hustlers' surging disco-house anthem, which first appeared in stores way back in 2005. This time round, the Italian duo have reworked it considerably, placing underground boogie legend Orlando Johnson's lead vocal front and centre while opting for some more organic-sounding instrumentation (the original was more sample-heavy). On their '2023 Rework' they channel the sound of Groove Culture label bosses Mickey More and Andy Tee, wrapping Johnson's vocal, tidy horns, flanged guitars and classic-sounding piano riffs around a warming bass guitar part and crunchy house drums. It's a very classy and far more authentically 'disco'-sounding track than their 2005 original. Their flip-side 'Get On The Floor' mix, meanwhile, has a smoother, more synth-heavy disco-house sound, less vocal and even more of the excellent horn sounds.

Review: Dub techno don Luke Hess has been a mainstay of Omar S's FXHE label for as long as we, or anyone in fact, can remember. The Motor City talent dropped this particular EP, 'Dubout EP #3.13', back in 2011 but it now resurfaces and has aged to perfection with some extra touches from Smith himself. 'Narrow Road' is strident and direct dub techno with signature FXHE chords. 'Leads To Life' is more liquid and paired back with an undulating bassline and a cosmic feel to the swirling pads. 'Unity Excerpt' closes with more icy beats, hi-hats and skittish synths that snake throughout the mix.

Review: Fool's Paradise is the exciting new label from Toolroom Records' Mark Knight. Coming straight from the heart, it's a natural progression from his hugely acclaimed 2021 album release, 'Untold Business', which saw Mark go back to his roots, paying homage to the more funky, soulful, and vocal house from the 1990s from where he came. With a focus on real instrumentation and production, coupled with great songwriting, this new Toolroom sublabel will be a platform for high quality house music designed to stand the test of time. Launching the new label with a mighty bang and delivering the first in our exciting new vinyl sampler series is head honcho Mark Knight, who joins forces with his Australian Toolroom labelmate, Sgt Slick, and British Soul sensation, Beverley Knight, on a dynamite cover of Prince's 1979 classic, 'I Wanna Be Your Lover'. Respectfully transporting the song onto today's dancefloors, Mark & Sgt Slick deliver a classy uplifting soulful house production, loaded with funky guitars, warm pads and sublime key performances. Adding the icing on the cake and putting her own stamp on things, Beverley belts out one of her signature spine-tingling vocals, garnished with lush harmonies and BV's that would indeed make The Purple One proud. Completing the vinyl package is dance music stalwart, Opolopo, and British soul icon, Jaki Graham, whom together bring the dancefloor heat with their new single, 'Fire'. Powered by a potent soulful house groove from Opolopo, loaded with warm piano hooks, emotive synth melodies and a sublime popping bass hook, 'Fire' see's Jaki flaunt her electrifying vocal talents with a show-stopping performance on this irresistibly catchy song.

Review: Future Tones hear producers Luis Malon and Omar drop two utter floor-heaters respectively, not holding back for a second in their admission that these are 'Tracks From The Future'. Malon's 'Freeze' and 'Flesh Is Stronger' are surprisingly (at least for a pair of time-travelling tracks) humanistic statements, bringing belligerent bangout beats, rapturously Reesing rhapsodies and even G-funk whistles to a driving pair. Omar's flips are much more vintage, moving seemingly laterally in dimension rather than linearly in time, and finding solace in a more neo-retro-modern vision of the future; 'Niusing' especially entices with its cascader twinkles and sawwing bursts.

Review: MK is now a global house star, but it wasn't that long ago that he couldn't even DJ. Instead, he'd pioneered the dub house sound in the 90s then gone off to become a hip-hop super producer. One of those early gems he crafted was his dub of 'Given' back in 93. It got put out by fellow Detroit great Omar S in 2011 and even today is a crowd-pleasing favourite with the muted horn stabs and garage-inflected, dubbed-out beats. Once you add in Omar S's own 'Sarah', a raw analogue deep house cut with plenty of FXHDE hallmarks like dusty hi-hats and wonky synths and you have a brilliant 12" that is now available once more.

Whereas the first one issued almost a year ago drew for some crazy club material from artists closely associated with the label, this second edition seeks out contributions from outside talent. Any record that features contributions from both Optimo Music Golden Teacher and Wolf Muller is going to get our seal of approval and both are highlights. The latter opens proceedings with the wonderfully off kilter "Rudeltanz", whilst Golden Teacher's "What Time Is it" comes off like a pitched down Charles Manier cut. On this occasion, the double vinyl set is reserved for four special longform mixes which let the ideas roll out in a truly hypnotic style. Review: After the storming success of the Sushitech reissues of classic Mosaic and other O'Sullivan material, the label turns to a host of artists to deliver respectful reinterpretations of the timeless dub techno material for this fulsome double pack. Delano Smith kicks things off with a stripped down ride through "Where's Burt?", while Mike Huckaby gets heavy on the bongo thrum when he tackles "Moving Forward". Thor gets a slender funk on when he takes on "Where's Burt?", but it's positively chunky compared to the minimal tones of Rhauder tackling "Don't Rush The Dub". That leaves it to Exos to reduce "Stripped" down even further into atomised dub matter of the finest standard.

Review: We're always glad to hear new material from undisputed dub techno don Steve O'Sullivan. This new one on his own Mosiac label finds him facing off with Paul Simmons on a pair of deliciously deep cuts. 'Inner Glow' is given the whole of the A-side to make its mark and it does - with a slightly more soulful sound than you might expect. Rather than pure heads down underwater deepness, it's got a heart warming vocals hook and brighter chord vamps over the signature drum smoothness. 'Still Burnin''is a quicker cut with more radiant chords and a soulful spirit, then a Bluespirit dub of the a-side zones things out nicely.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged, but otherwise in excellent condition***

As part of their 15th anniversary celebrations, Sushitech has decided to reissue Mosaic Classics, a 2008 collection of late 1990s works from legendary British techno producer Steve O'Sullivan, this time on clear vinyl. If you missed out first time around, it's well worth picking up. Check first the early British tech-house-goes-dub-techno hypnotism of 'Cheques Not Accepted', before admiring the sub-heavy late-night skank of 'Touch Up' and the bongo-rich pleasantness of deep techno roller 'Breezer' (itself a collaboration with John Beer'). Also worth a listen is the chunkier and sweater - but nevertheless spacey - 'No Suzuki', which was originally released under the Blue Spirit alias, and the pumping, stargazing thump of 'Sac Magique' (as Wise Caucasian).

Oasis #1 (8:13)
Review: It is remarkable to think that Detroit badman Omar S's star has in no way diminished since this record first came out in 2004. If anything, he is ever more legendary than ever right now. His style hasn't changed much over the years - he still favours rolling drums, smart samples and bright melodies - but somehow he continues to mine new moods and grooves within that. This one was particularly special, though - the tinny drums seem to root you to the groove but also float, the melodic hook is buried deep but brings a haunting vibe that never lets yup. And that's about it, but that is more than enough when each element makes such an indelible impact.

Review: The main track here shows a slightly different facette of Omar S. Thirteen/Two/Eight, released on FXHE, has a handclapping, twitching beat with a quirky lively synth melody, classic italo disco and early 80 boogie sounds from a Detroit point of view. A vivid techno track and a darker ambient outing keep the quality high.

Oh Jabba
Space Age Steppin
Review: FXHE remain in outer orbit following that stellar Triangulum Australe 12" from Omar S, presenting their final transmission of a superb year in the shape of Oh Jabba, two tracks of stargazing house music from O B Ignitt. Last seen collaborating with Omar S on the dedication to Eddie Murphy's finest acting role, the impression that Ignitt likes his cinema is only strengthened here on the Star Wars referencing lead track with some deliciously lo fi art work of that slug like character on the inner label dispelling any possible doubt. The track itself is a wonderfully simple yet melodic house track, crunchy drum machine rhythms rippling away feverishly beneath a calming array of swooping Rhodes and Moog flourishes. Complementing this, "Space Age Stepping" is a more searching affair, relying more on the rugged drums and gurgling analogue bassline to achieve lift off.

Review: Hotmix deliver another two-track slaying from an aliased ambassador of the label itself, this time the first edition in the new 'Obscure Bad Dreams' series. An homage to Sauro Cosimetti (the Italian house and techno mastermind whose credits include releases on Frequenza, Natura Viva and Beatfreak), six acolytes of the artist bring six, discoic house hosing-downs to the table. Most exciting among the selections are the lively African trad chanter 'The Beginning', the dreamy soulful house 'Inflight' by Rohan Delano, and Montano Orchestra's freestyle-inspired dub-electro-disco 'Tribal Love Beats' version of their own 'Esto Parese Amor'.

Review: After two sold out first volumes, Obscure & Obsolete are back with a third instalment in their new series. It might have been a while year since the last outing but the wait was worth it as these latest edits are on fire once again. Big Foot's 'Watch Your Step' is a funky disco gem with live drumming and loose perc, then Sehrazat goes for a tighter arrangement that reaches to the stars with its big synth work. The flip-side offers steamy, loved up and intense tackle from Leb Harmony, and there is still time for the jazz licks and clipped disco funk of Jean Musy's 'Danse Dans Le Cabaret.'

Review: Occibel steps up to Hoarder for the label's 24th EP and does so with a captivating sense of colourful sound design across a couple of different styles and sub-genres. It's punchy and cosmic house that kicks off with 'Voyager 1' lit up by zippy snares and chattery percussive grooves. 'Thriller' is another full throttle tech house cut with big rubbery drums and acid laced bass. 'Freestyle' is darker as it marches on beneath rave signifiers and balmy pads. Last of all is 'Hello Users', a wonky cut with hefty drum funk and retro-future vocals. A very useful EP in all.

Review: Occibel's 'Endless Moments Part 1' on Playfool Spain is a four track EP that has a lot of good going on for itself. Side-1 begins with 'Slowly But Surely,' a track that grooves with a fun, futuristic vibe. The unique drum sounds and fills give it a live band feel, adding a refreshing twist to the minimal genre. Next up is 'Light Fog,' a sexy, late-night track that perfectly captures the spacey essence of well-crafted tech house. On Side-2, 'Dark & Light' introduces elements of soulful house, with a fresh and distinctive beat that brings an intriguing bounce to the mix. The EP wraps up with 'Sliding With Your Mates,' a true party starter with a big, bold sound. The clever use of the Run DMC 'My Adidas' vocal edit elevates the track, making it a party starter for any set. A versatile and exciting release for fans of house music.

Review: Occibel cranks up the decibels on this new outing for the fledging label Playful. The artist taps into a fresh tech and minimal sound from the off with 'Behind The Walls' spinning out on disco stabs and phased basslines. The kinetic 'Look Around You' then pangs more prickly drum programming and spaced-out synth work with sensuous spoken words and 'Freak' layers up balmy pads and bright, shiny and sugar melodies for a nice colourful exploration. 'The Mess' shuts down with more menace thanks to its monstrous bassline and snappy drum hits.

Review: French house and disco outlet Roulade set aflight on their third holiday outing in the series known as 'Gaston's Holidays', bringing twinkly electro-disco juice to a faraway tropic fantasy. This fructose fancy, by the power of the postal system and/or the Internet, has the power to beam itself into your living space for a solid half an hour - but only if you let it. According to Roulade, the Gaston thus named - maybe he's the personified lemon wedge depicted on the front cover - have this time around hooked up for a remote island rendezvous come shindig, linking Merov, Occibel, Emi Omar and Wooka for a limbo dance each: here, "mojitos have replaced tap water and the sound of the waves is swapped for dream house beats. Review: KMA60 Prozektiva's exploration of a mutant, electrified take on tech and house continues with Ocean T taking the mantle across four future-facing new cuts. The opener 'Never Enough' has steely drums that slap hard while the twisted, glistening melodies and 90s stabs bring a rave feel. 'KO' is a darker and more gritty sound with dubby low ends and vocal aspirations adding a touch of human soul. 'OBSSSD' has more old school vocals buried in a shimmering mix of synths and snappy drums and 'Been There Too Long' flips the vibe with a much more soft, rounded, warm deep house jaunt with deft vocal fragments and neon colours all making it the best of the lot.

'Neutrality' features on the A-side and is a spiritual fusion of steely tech house beats and spine tingling chords, angelic distant vocals and lots of loose percussion all with a slightly psychedelic feel. On the flip is a Nick Curly remix which pairs whitings back and settles the beats into one of his signature tech house frameworks with hooky little pads and late night allure. Good stuff.

'Heart Pieces' is a delightful coming together of organic trumpets and loose percussion with a languid house groove, funky little riffs and heavenly vocal coos. Review: It's been a hot minute since we heard something new from Och, but he's back on Autoreply with a double 12" of high-grade, stripped back tech house shot through with oodles of imagination. "Panamax" is the consummate dubby house track, a true immersion chamber of a track, while "The Sadness" brings a shuffling groove and some peppy key stabs to the table. "The Healer" is a more overtly minimal affair that would sound at home on PAL SL, while "Linear Response Function" keeps things tight and focused with a sturdy rhythmic framework and some spartan piano notes. "Incompressible Flow" has a submerged jazzy undercurrent to it, and "Lovers Roll" gets into that freaky house bounce heard on "The Sadness". Overall, it's another sterling grip of refined tracks from a seasoned pro.

This 'accidental hit' came about when the bass sample, taken from a song by indie band Men I Trust, was lifted and plonked against a slapping house beat and backing strings. The resulting tune, which exploded in popularity in 2020, was a bittersweet ode to the dance in a time when no-one could think or begin to do so. Now, the instrumental occupies the B, taking up all the funking wax space it deserves.
