Review: Something a little different from G.A.M.M here, as Parisian DJ Afshin joins forces with the mysterious Kiss My Black Jazz to offer up two incendiary edits. The real surprise killer is A-side "Trouble In My Way", which subtly turns a blues-era recording of a traditional slave sing-along into a handclap-heavy chunk of infectious gospel-house brilliance. It takes a little time to build up, but when the heavier beats drop midway through you'll have dancers eating out of the palm of your hand. Flipside "The Riot" sees them make merry with a Hammond-heavy chunk of 1960s jazz-funk, extending and reworking the cut to make it suitably sweaty, heavy and life affirming.

Review: Earlier in the month, Parisian producer Afshin joined forces with Kiss My Black Jazz and served up a brilliant, two-track missive of jazz-funk and blues-house reworks on G.A.M.M. Here they reunite for round two. This time round, they begin by reworking a shuffling, chant-along Afro-Brazilian gem of unknown origin, extending the carnival-ready percussive intro before unleashing the shuffling, sun-kissed samba rhythm and some of the sweetest vocals this side of a sing-along in a chocolate factory. Over on side B they give a similar tune to a killer chunk of reggae-funk fusion rich in warm dub bass, bongo-laden beats, bluesy guitar solos, fuzzy horns and James Brown style guttural vocals.

Review: Frank Music look to main man Johannes Albert for the second volume of their Rarities series and he covers plenty of musical ground in the process. First up, Benjamin Frohlich's 'Tivoli' gets a super upbeat and summery 4/4 disco re-treatment to kick things off, before Albert steps up again to tackle Kayroy's 'Identification Unknown' with future-facing disco synths. The version of 'Fomo' he serves up is more dirty and danceable, with acid lines and twinkling arps. Last of all, Albert's remix of Leon Revol - 'Acid Is Rolling' is an undulating cut with muscular beats and crispy snares.

Review: Japanese producers Aru-2 and Kzyboost are mainstays of the beak making scene. The Tokyo pair have a full length album coming up in August but now offer up a first taster of what to expect from it. This special 45rpm features two of the tunes that will be on the album ad a-side jam 'Shooby Dooby' is a futuristic wedge of bubbling analogue funk, Synth bass powers it along and then some textbook Aru-2 talk box vocals add extra spice. On the flip is B-side 'Boost Step,' which heads down a more laidback and downtempo vibe with funk vibes and synth solos leading the way.

Review: "Blackout" was created by a collaboration between Black Mustang and the magical Kerrier District (Luke Vibert), Cornwall's answer to Metro Area. Kerrier Distract provided the chunky disco beats over which the Mustang stacked layers of Moog and tripped out dub vocals. This LoEB release with scare the hell out of your ears.

Review: The original of this first saw the light back in autumn 2013, and it remains a dynamically built nu-disco track boasting early Aeroplane style piano licks and an arresting vocal from Kristina Train. It's Blamma Blamma at their most stately and stunning. Here we find it in remix form; Psychemagik provide a liquid, bulbous bass facelift, Cato re-emphasises the nude beauty with a few edit sparkles, Wolf + Lamb go deeper with a synth heavy late-night floor stomper while Kiani vs Red D close the show with a sunset-minded slice of modern euphoria. Each twist adding a whole new chapter to the Blamma Blamma story, the only problem is working out which rub to add in your next set.

Review: It's a sizzling seven up for Moiss Music here as they draw together four different artists to offer up one cut each for this new various artists collection. Boogietraxx goes heavy on the filter vibes on 'S N T' which is French touch disco-house of the highest order. Kellit's 'Pryscoks Sockin Socks' is all about sultry sax lines and loose-limbed disco house beats while C Da Afro gets heads up with the streaming sunshine synths of 'Don't Be Quiet.' Groovemasta shut down with the funky Afro-disco stylings of 'Gonna Make U Rock.'

Review: First up on the freshly minted Bacalao imprint is Bosq, a Ubiquity Records contributor renowned for his blends of funk, soul and sweaty South American music. While the heavy horns featured on this release were recorded in Bogota, the producer's usual Colombian flavour takes a back seat as he joins forces with Kaleta to deliver two covers of Fatback Band classics. First up is "Goin' To See My Baby", which is re-imagined as a fuzzy funk workout rich in rasping horns, tropical guitar flourishes and woodblock-driven Latin disco percussion. Arguably even better is the duo's cover of "Backstrokin'", which is given a Barrio-funk flavour complete with prominent bass, heavy-hitting horn motifs and excitable lead vocals.

Review: In case you're not aware of the Whiskey Barons, they've been brewing up a cosmic fusion of Afro beat, disco and just a dash of dub for a few years now, knocking out occasional cheeky 12s on labels like Flavorhead. Here we find one half of the Boston duo teaming up with Nigerian singer Kelata for some full-on vocal afro antics. "More Heavy" is a supreme slice of contemporary Afro funk that's been produced with the loose but loopy production you'd expect to hear on a DFA release back in the day. "Dem Know", meanwhile, pounds a deep hypnotic groove allowing Bosq's horn, Hammond and guitar recipe bubble freely. Majestic stuff.

Review: Calm's "Shining of Life", a nu-jazz era fusion of soulful U.S house influences, jazzy instrumentation and life-affirming goodtime vibes, first appeared in stores way back in 2004. Here the Japanese producer has chosen to revisit his noughties classic, serving up a brand new "2017 Full Moon Mix" that pushes the track's gospel style vocals, fluid pianos, mazy synths and tasty, disco-influenced grooves to the fore. It's a superb revision, all told, and arguably even better than the near peerless original. On the flip you'll find an unreleased version from the archives that sounds like some long lost Frankie Knuckles remix - all expansive, eyes-closed piano solos, tactile synth bass and unfussy Chicago house beats.

Review: Chico Mann and Kendra Morris combine sublimely on the Same Old Clown 12" through Soundway which is a thrilling taster of what's to come on Magical Thinking, the multi instrumentalist's third solo LP. Whilst the Antibalas guitarist has remained close to his Afrobeat roots on previous long players for Wax Poetics and Kindred Spirits, his new album is said to offer a more expansive portrayal of Chico's tastes taking in latin, freestyle, funk and boogie and "Same Old Clown" certainly suggests this is a rewarding approach. Mann's classic squelching 80s electro funk arrangement is the perfect backdrop for Kendra's slinky vocals and the accompanying remixes from Linkwood and Kon only serve to show her range, with the Firecracker man's boogie house update our personal favourite here at Juno.

Review: Given that Hard Fist's first two releases hit home hard, hopes are naturally high for the imprint's third 12". Whereas releases one and two were solo EPs, Princes of Abzu is something of an all-star affair. Label founders Cornelius Doctor and Tushen Rai join forces for the excellent, Acid Arab-esque opener "Place Du Pont", while Jakam's superb "Tribes" brilliantly joins the dots between Afro-house, Middle Eastern exotica and, most thrillingly of all, spiritual jazz. Elsewhere, Shadi Khries' "Semsemeh" is a dark and atmospheric chunk of psychedelic acid-jack and Timothy Clerkin's fuzzy and aggressive "Akama" is a mid-altering analogue chugger.

Review: Ombra International is a vinyl only series inviting artists from different cities from around the globe to contribute their rock and roll or post-punk influenced grooves via slo-mo disco and cold wave sonics. OMBRA INTL 002 is four tracks bringing together Cannibal Ink (Madrid) with the sleazy psych rock of "La Haine", Dawn Again from Sydney, K-effect (Toledo) and Curses in Berlin. Curses is the dark and romantic moniker from New York City native Luca Venezia aka Trouble & Bass main man Drop The Lime who serves up the awesome "Neu Dimension".

Review: Canada's foremost re-edit imprint continues to churn out the hits, largely by delivering dub disco and Balearic-tinged interpretations of long forgotten or little-known cuts. Common Edit regulars Dane and Khotin join forces on the A-side, delivering a sweet chunk of boogie-era synthesizer reggae ("Imho"), before heading futher towards peaktime territory with the low-slung, late night AOR disco of "System". Eddie C digs delves into his seemingly bottomless crates of obscurities for inspiration on "I Want More", a gorgeous chunk of piano-laden Balearic disco sweetness. Finally, Dane lights up something medicinal, closes his eyes and delivers the smacked-out, guitar-laden ambient chug of "One For Dane". It's an absolute beauty, if truth be told.

Review: Toy Tonics head honcho Mathias ‚Kapote' Modica and former OYE Records main man Delfonic have linked together for more magical reworks here of rare old dance jazz tunes. The tracks that make it onto these EPs were originally designed for their own personal DJ use but get so heavily requested they did the right thing and got them out into the wider world on wax. This time out, four reworks of obscure Latin funk and disco soul get served up with lashings of jazzy overtones. You'll have a hard job working out the originals here unless you are a Jedi level digger, and that makes them all the more useful.

Review: Berlin characters Delfonic & Kapote (who run the Toy Tonics and Kryptox labels) are behind the Illegal Jazz series, which his actually all about re-fixing disco tinged, funk licked sounds from the 1970s. They are all repackaged for modern dance floors, with hefty drums next to the wild expressive synth sounds and still futuristic electronics. 'India Rejam' is packed with playful sounds and off-beat funk, 'Wanna Dance? Rejam' is a retro-future rattler with the sound of spacecrafts taking off next to tight rhythm sections and 'Yam Sallam Rejam' is led by some huge sax lines that bring a steamy quality to the club.

Thankfully the Illegal Jazz label treats us to a second edition that is packed with just as much joyous disco, jazz and funk heat. Review: Dam Swindle - the Dutch duo formerly known as Detroit Swindle - turn their hand to remixing some old disco gold here. First up is the iconic 'Everyman' by Double Exposure. They do a subtle job, touching up the bass with a contemporary edge and leaving the vocal to do much of the work. A fine move. The flip side is an edit with more of an eye on a full and sweaty dance floor. Kongas's 'Kongas Fun' is all mad synth solos and tribal drumming with a sense fo 60s funk squealing up ahead.

Review: Eddie C and his Seven Inches of Love buddy Koosh present the second release on the newly formed Common Edits label. Borne out of the intimate Edmonton club night called The Common, this second drop gets off to a suitably sultry start via Koosh's take on the Diana Ross classic "Love Hangover". Focusing mostly on portion of the track that has Ross grunting like she's on heat, this is a re-edit that's gonna get a few people in the mood. On the flip Eddie C drops "Got To Find", a delightfully wavy soul gem characterised by intermittent swathes of emotive synth washes

Review: Clap City reissue this glimmering eighties pearl first outputted by the Hartford, Connecticut outpost WFAB Records; their only release, in fact. The highly obscure First Approach Band come second only to the further bedimmed name of featuring artist Karen Santos. Now out on a newly edited 7" replete with a neat new j-card, 'Never Knew' and 'Mister Love' are two hooking establishers of style by the band and singer in combo; both tracks deal in a machinic disco-funk repetitiousness, and come gravied by a synthetic sports whistle to top off its vocal counterclaims of ignorance.
