Los Conquistadores Chocolates (Moplen Dizco Delight - part 1) (8:46)
Los Conquistadores Chocolates (Moplen Dizco Delight - part 2) (8:02)
Review: Johnny Hammond's "Los Conquistadores Chocolates" is a seminal slice of long form jazz funk from 1975, which has long been coveted by collectors and DJs and flexed over by dancers for decades. Now expert disco archaeologist and multi-track remixer par excellence Moplen has taken this holy grail to task with a respectfully epic two part opus that takes up both sides of this 12" on High Fashion. This is editing as carried out with utmost reverence for the source material and the hands-on ways in which the pioneers first carried out this ritual of extending the groove. If you need a lesson on how an edit should be done, look no further.

Marvin (Casey Mistake mix) (5:02)
Marvin (dub That Got Away) (5:05)
Review: Having previously worked his magic on classic cuts from Diana Ross, Luther Vandross and Teddy Pendergrass - among others - Bridge Boots boss Caserta has now moved on to Marvin Gaye. He's grabbed the acapella from a classic song - in this case one of Gaye's duets with Diana Ross, "My Mistake (Was To Love You)"- and incorporated it into a brand new track. The A-side "Casey Mistake Mix" sits somewhere between early '80s boogie and the mid-80s proto-house sound created by Boyd Jarvis, Timmy Regisford and Paul Simpson. Interestingly, Gaye and Ross's vocals fit it like a glove. The flipside "Dub That Got Away" is an altogether more bumpin' garage-house workout rich in cut-up vocals snippets and wobbly analogue bass.

Jingo (9:11)
Thousand Finger Man (9:05)
Review: The year is 1979, disco is at its peak and tracks like this one from Cuban-born percussionist Candido, who backed many Afro-Cuban and straight-ahead jazz acts from the 1950s onwards, are blowing up spots all over the UK and United States. It's a lively, up beat disco gem laced with funk and soul, chunky drums and a killer lead that make you want to shake your bones loose. "Thousand Finger Man" on the flip is a more smooth-crusin' jam that sweeps you up and carries you away on a breeze of horns, keys and percussion.

Munky Fike - "Oh Disco Baby" (6:42)
C Da Afro - "Groove Definitio" (6:24)
Alexny - "Take You Ther" (6:41)
Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Russian label Moiss Music have spent the past couple of years building up a formidable catalogue of crucial disco house drops on digital, and now they're making their first move on wax with this slab of veritable party heaters. First up The Funk District bring the perfect blend of warm, organic funk and punchy club production for maximum impact. Munky Fike is brimming with positivity on "Oh Disco Baby", while C Da Afro rides the filters good and proper for the effervescent "Groove Definito". Alexny takes things deeper on "Take You Ther", but there's still plenty of space for classic disco licks in the mix.

Hit It N Quit It (Cratebug & Jamie 3:26 edit remix) (7:33)
Review: Chicago stalwarts Cratebug and Jamie 3:26 were relatively little-known when they joined forces to create this killer rework of Loleatta Holloway's Salsoul classic "Hit 'N' Run" way back in 2011. The interpretation, which laces choice passages of Holloway's impassioned vocal over a loopy and driving house groove reminiscent of Paperclip People's "Throw", first appeared on vinyl as part of Lumberjacks In Hell's now impossible-to-find Chicago Service compilation four years ago. Happily, Salsoul has decided to reissue it on this must-have, single-sided 12". It's more of a remix than a re-edit, and is guaranteed to get things going at peak-time. Basically, it's a banger, and you need it in your box.

Peg (4:21)
Ibo (4:19)
Review: Berlin's shadowy Pina Edits collective can usually be relied upon to deliver dancefloor-friendly material that brilliantly breathes new life into fairly - and sometimes very - familiar cuts. That's certainly the case on this must-check seven-inch single, which opens with a brilliant cut-up concoction that brilliantly stitches together loops and grooves from Steely Dan classic "Peg" with head-nodding house grooves and vocal samples from a sweaty disco-funk gem. Arguably even better - if less obviously party-starting - is ludicrously percussive flipside "IBO", which builds slowly via waves of drums before introducing drowsy deep house chords and some decidedly Balearic flourishes.

Clash & Burn (5:22)
KOHO2 (5:26)
Dust (6:18)
Stop (7:23)
Review: Since debuting on Stilove4music in 2012, Brooklyn duo Devin Dare has offered up an irregular smattering of brilliant EPs for the likes of Apron, Misterio and La Mission, including a couple of notable outings alongside London badman Stevie J AKA Funkineven. Here they showcase their scalpel skills via a first outing on local label Razor-N-Tape. They begin by offering an extra-percussive, party-starting revision of a low-slung, turn-of-the-80s deep disco-meets-punk funk affair ("Clash & Burn"), before romping their way through a weighty revision of a high-octane disco stomper ("KOHO2"). Over on side B, "Dust" sees them successfully re-wire a Hammond-heavy chunk of gospel disco-funk, while "Stop" is a pleasingly percussive revision of a soaring disco number.

You're Gonna Want Me Back (Moplen Disco mix) (8:19)
You're Gonna Want Me Back (Moplen reprise) (5:23)
Review: "You're Gonna Want Me Back" was a hit in 1981 for Delia Renee, and with good reason. It's a fierce burner loaded with Philly strings, an early 80s stomp and Renee's formidable midrange performance - a defiant protest track to make anyone feel untouchable. Now that highly skilled disco edit wizard Moplen has got his mitts on the parts and teased out the track with two deadly versions for High Fashion. There's a straight-up "Disco Mix" on the A side which treats the original with care, and the "Moplen Reprise" on the flip which gets more adventurous with the ingredients, still keeping one foot firmly in the heart and soul of the track. Powerful stuff to set any dancefloor ablaze.

Incapable (Crooked Man part 3 mix) (8:22)
Review: Having done the rounds digitally for what feels like an eternity, Roisin Murphy's Crooked Man-produced anthem finally returns to vinyl (it was originally released, with no credits, on Bitter End in 2018. For the uninitiated, the A-side original mix is a near perfect fusion of memorable boogie bass, echoing deep house chords, snappy drum machine beats and clipped guitars topped up with a weary, lovelorn vocal from Murphy that's one of her most impactful and memorable to date. The flipside "Crooked Man Part 3 Mix" is a little less than a total transformation. It sees the Hathersage-based former Bleep & Bass producer place Murphy's care-worn vocal atop a sparse mixture of wonky techno electronics, weighty sub-bass and snappy machine drums.

Why Can't We Live Together (LNTG No More Work rework - Late Nite Tuff Guy edit) (6:59)
Review: Second time around for Late Nite Tuff Guy's popular rework of Timmy Thomas' anti-war classic, "Why Can't We Live Together", which first appeared in stores four years ago. This time round it's been issued on striking yellow vinyl, though the track listing remains the same. The Australian's revision is undeniably aimed at contemporary dancefloors, with Thomas' impassioned vocals and lo-fi organ motifs sitting atop a lolloping, pared-back disco-house groove. It's undeniably effective and done rather tastefully, though some listeners will still prefer Thomas' original version. Happily, that's been included on side A so you get the best of both worlds.

Funk It (Mr K edit) (6:40)
Review: Rejoice all serious disco edits heads, we have another batch of highly sought after treatments from the mighty Danny Krivit available here for your delectation. First up is "One Step Back, Two Steps Front", a powerful '80s jam that splits the difference between prime-time soft rock, disco and soul - the power lies in the stirring impact of the vocals to create a truly spellbinding dancefloor moment (as soon as you have the chance to experience one). "Funk It" is a more classically funky work out with a smattering of Hi NRG histrionics to match the heavy boogie of the rhythm section.

Laying On The Sofa (Mark Kamins remix) (6:08)
La Tete Contre Les Murs (Marc Moulin remix) (5:24)
Review: Some years back, Permanent Vacation dipped into the back catalogue of decidedly Balearic synth-pop trio Antenna before offering up a swathe of fresh remixes. Now Discomatin have decided to explore the solo discography of lead singer Isabelle Antena, serving up two rare contemporaneous remixes of 1987 singles by Mark Kamins and Marc Moulin respectively. The former's version of "Laying On The Sofa" is superb, with the Danceteria resident layering her fine lead vocals over delay laden electro beats, warm Rhodes chords, glistening guitars and elastic bass guitar. Moulin's body-popping, synth and drum-machine fired revision of "La Tete Contre Les Murs" is arguably even better and undeniably funkier. It goes without saying that both tracks are superb.

(You've Got) That Something (extended version) (10:43)
Dancing Into The Stars (extended version) (11:05)
Review: Boogie badman Leroy Burgess was responsible for some of the greatest disco and electrofunk jams of the early '80s. Even so, few were quite as special as "(You've Got) That Something", a 1981 killer that distilled all that was good about his productions - those distinctive cowbell patterns, life-affirming slap bass, spiraling synths, hard-wired disco guitars and one of his finest vocal performances - in one essential, 11-minute package. As on the original '81 12", it comes backed with the similarly impressive "Dancing Into The Stars", whose melodic bassline is arguably even better than that found on the A-side. If you don't already own a copy of the original pressing, this reissue should be an essential purchase.

Diana (Caserta 7 The long Way mix) (6:00)
Diana (Caserta Sing-A-long dub) (5:17)
Review: Bridge Boots main man Caserta has previously proved to be one of the most talented re-editors around, up there with higher profile artists such as the Reflex and Joey Negro. His latest offering, a red seven-inch single featuring new rearrangements of Diana Ross hit "I'm Coming Out", is another beauty. On the A-side he offers up a "Long Way Mix" that gives more prominence to Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards' killer backing track (partly via stripping it back to the groove at key points) while retaining most of Ross' vocals. On the flip you'll find a "Sing-A-Long Dub" that strips it back further during key instrumental passages to allow the Motown legend's vocals to shine.

Coffee & Feels (4:11)
Review: All seven of Pole Jams previous EPs have sold out in quick fashion. The eighth is another super sweet disco offering that keeps good time, sunshine vibes alive as long as the music keeps playing. Stain Jackets aka Tim Bernhardt is the appropriately named artist behind these three silky smooth groovers, with "Meridian Getaway" offering a big dose of sparkling disco dust and shimmering chords. "Mercury Moments" goes deep with mellow pads and twinkling keys then the more introspective and late night "Coffee & Feels" slows things down with a more thoughtful arrangement.

Cash Maniac (3:56)
Pennywise (4:13)
Review: The PPU-affiliated Cosmic Chronic label rolls out some more of that deep cover boogie funk business from the hitherto unknown Junior Williams. Information is scant on whether this is a dusted down archive find (highly likely) or a modern, faithful reboot of the 80s Miami sound, but what does it matter when the funk is this real? "Cash Maniac" is a slow jam with that sweet Moog b-line and plenty of reverb on the backing vocals to send you spinning into the stratosphere. "Pennywise" on the flip will smack you up sharp after that with some hi-octane slapping n' popping funk that would give Rick James the heebie jeebies.

Paradise's Love (3:24)
Review: Those dusty-fingered boogie diggers with long "wants lists" should be familiar with "Paradise's Love", an obscure 1982 single from one-shot outfit Bordeaux that has been known to change hands online for hundreds of pounds a go. Here it gets the reissue treatment, with the colourful, Prince-goes-AOR disco style original version (track 3) being joined by two fresh remixes. The headline-grabbing treatment comes from KON, who beefs up the bottom end, makes much of the original's carnival-ready touches (whistles and so on), emphasizes the rubbery bassline and extends it to a dancefloor-friendly seven-and-a-half minutes. Equally as impressive is the Fantasy Love Remix, which instead chooses to up the tempo and push up the original version's P-funk sounds.

Moodena opens up with "Jezebel" with its big horn stabs and knotted bass riffs that will make you move and groove. Sartorial ups the sexy sax, pump the drums and get steamy on "Night Shade" before things take a more cool and breezy turn on the sliding and gliding grooves of Conan Liquid Presents The Crates Motel Collective's "Gotta Scratch". For those who like the big licks, stomping kicks and diva cries, Igor Gonya comes through with some gold to close things out.
