Volta Cab - "Titanium Stresser" (4:34)
Review: Mirko Hecktor and Tom Sprenger founded Terra Magica in 2021 as a platform for their brand of psychedelically-charged house and techno, and they've quickly built up a strong identity and a burgeoning community of likeminded astral travellers. Look no further than this quality split release for all the proof you need, as Lucas Croon threads Balearic, prog and trance together before the label bosses (Hektisch Sprengen DJs) weave some mystical mantras of their own and Dea revels in boxy Chicago jack crossed with Island boogie. It's an eclectic mix to be sure, with another three joints taking in uptempo proto-trance and anthemic emo-acid-breaks aplenty. Draw for the big feelings and get freaky in the process - what's not to love?

Leafar Legov - "Elaine"
Vril - "CTO"
Prince Of Denmark - "Traumwurm"
Herr Koreander - "Your Side"
Review: The Giegling label is no stranger to implementing conceptual ideas within the constructs of their output and Sudstadt EP, their 12th release, offers an intriguing central idea. Each of the four producers here - Giegling regulars Vril, Prince Of Denmark and Leafar Legov along with debutant Herr Koreander - grew up in Hannover and this 12" offers them a chance to portray their individual memories through the medium of music. Legov and Koreander commence and end the release in experimental fashion and sandwiched in-between is some of Giegling's most eminently danceable output yet from Vril and Prince Of Denmark.

Kosh - "It's Always Sunny In Casa" (4:53)
Review: Casablanca-based Casa Voyager returns this week with a various artists four-tracker in the form of Casa Sports Vol.3 : The Chase. On this one you've got label chief Driss Bennis aka OCB teaming up with Malik on the strobe-lit trance techno energy of 'The Magic Laugh' followed by Bergsonist with the off-kilter 'Indulge' up next on the first side. Flip over and there's Jalil with some evocative sunset breaks on 'Relief', Viewtiful Joe gets the Detroit vibes in effect on the bass-heavy electro of '4 The B-Brown' and Kosh gets deep on the New Jack Swing influenced 'It's Always Sunny In Casa'.

Review: Since launching six years ago, Bristol radio station Noods has become something of an online institution, with pleasingly experimental-minded shows from local music heads being joined by essential guest shows from up-and-coming DJs and producers from around the world. Earlier this year they finally launched their own label, which aims to showcase new talent, and here deliver a superb mini-album that was initially intended to drop on the station's fifth birthday. There's much to enjoy, from the murky, dub-wise percussion-fest that is Ossia's 'Drum Tangle' and the break-neck, post-jungle insanity of 'Static Whip' by Katatonic Silencio, to the psychedelic ambience of Ployer Fower's 'Aguries of Innocence' and the gently melodious, sub-heavy shuffle of Cleyra's 'Twined'.

Tranportation Aad - "Pagoda"
Grey Goo - "Lost Transmissions"
Vaalhaala - "Phaethon"
Grey Goo - "See Me"
Review: The second of two 12" singles this week from Darkestral Recordings sees Instra:mental's Al Green further explore his new Transportation AAD alias, a collaboration with Darkestral label head Drkstr. In "Pagoda", the pair compose a particularly atmospheric interlude which utilises Eastern tones and booming drums to create a soundscape worthy of a noir tinged sci-fi movie. The single also features more contributions from Green under another new guise, Grey Goo. Less obviously dancefloor focused, the cavernous sonics and brooding atmospherics of "Lost Transmissions" recalls the introspective dub experimentation of Blackest Ever Black's Raime, while "See Me" fuses this aesthetic to some drawn out chords and sharply programmed 808 drums. The final contribution comes from the mysterious Vaalhaala, who employs a pulsing arpeggio which sounds like it has come from a far off satellite transmission, with sounds that threaten to explode at any moment. Sounding like nothing else this year, this EP is a perfect hybrid of futuristic bass and bleak moods, and will be essential for anyone interested in where the genre can go next.

8th Hope (GOD remix)
Review: Italian experimentalist Vaghe Stelle has been quietly forging his sound across EPs for Margot, Shabu and Opilec, but this graduation to Gang Of Ducks sees the producer's first physical release, in a plush silk-screen printed sleeve no less. The music contained within emerges in many different shades, from the emotional grind of "4th Hope" to the industrial blasts of "8th Hope", not to mention the dissected hardcore breaks and searching melodics of "10th Hope". The combinations are curious at every turn, and there's still space for remixes from Best Available Technology and GOD who turn out reduced dub-house abstractions and muffled techno respectively.

P4S 1000291010 (version)
Review: The second release from No Comment, the mysterious Dutch techno imprint with a penchant for number-heavy track titles, and once again the equally mysterious Albert Van Abbe is at the helm. The menacing rhythmic throb of "NCS 0009121010" is complemented by some increasingly abrasive hats and needle sharp percussion - the way the track progresses and undulates before running its course is a joy to behold! The Heinrich Mueller remodel on the flip has a much less subtle affect; it carries a menacing swagger to the beat which bounds along beneath the highly strung synth work. This shares a side of wax with the ambient bliss of "P4S 1000291010". Essential business pressed up on stush marble vinyl.

Plebeian - "Gowanus" (5:05)
Review: Aaron J's Sure Thing kicks on towards its tenth release with a superb new 12" packed with fresh techno jams. Myriad different mods, grooves and tempos are on offer here starting with the puling rhythmic depths of Vardae's 'Pahlevan' then moving on to Kick21's 'Bright Interface', a dark and haunting low-end wobbler. Atavic's 'Subconscious' is a heady one with ambient cosmic pads over deeply hurried, supple rhythms then while Tammo Hesselink & DYL combine to mesmeric effect on the carefully curated broken beat brilliance of 'Accent Award.' A forward-thinking EP for sure.

Analogue Audio Association - "Antikorper"
Cyan341 - "What's Going On"
Mick Chillage - "From Ripples"
Review: After years spent supporting the underground IDM scene digitally, Glasgow label Ambidextrous makes the leap to vinyl with this killer compilation of ear-catching deep techno and electronica. Christ brings a bubbling range of synth tones to "Rom" before Norken and Nyquist drop some brooding electro tones over rolling beats on"Od Detot". Solipsism has a more sassy house sound to impart, while Nyquist goes into full electro mode on his own. On the flip, Analogue Audio Association have some edgy acid to throw down, Cyan341 brings a touch of boogie flex to the record and Mich Chillage rounds the record off with emotive outboard electronics of a reflective nature.

Flying Kites (11:30)
Keep Me Close (5:31)
Trace Of Smoke (5:52)
Review: London based producer Jules Venturini is up next for Whities, following up great releases by Avalon Emerson and Lanark Artefax. On the label's 14th edition, Venturini follows up some sludgy lo-fi techno/house derivatives on Polish label Brutaz with some more similarly rusty and dust covered aesthetics. Beginning with the 12 minute epic "Flying Kites" which channels early '90s British bleep IDM, until that fast hitting groove hits at just the right time towards the end. Lush ambient piece "Keep Me Close" works as an effective intermission of sorts on this grainy and saturated dream state captured to VHS. Finally, Venturini displays a more aggressive side as seen on his previous release with the gnarly and slow burning industrial electronics of "Trace Of Smoke".

The scene is set early on with the smoky pads and crisp drums of "Binary Worlds" - equal parts deep-diving machine soul and body-popping 808 funk. Things get nastier with the strafing monosynth punctuating "Covert Ops" and the edgy creep of "Shadow Union" on to "Manifold"s luxuriant sound world. The quality level remains staggeringly high as we trip through classically informed electro of every shade, adding yet another accomplished payload to the formidable Versalife catalogue.

Review: Originally hailing from The Isle of Wight but now based in West Norwood, South London, Vertical Cat has been releasing tunes since 2001 on imprints like Smallfish, Vice and his own rather wonderfully named Achingly Responsive, but now finds himself delivering seven varied creations for Chicago's Kimochi Sound to issue via the kind of hand-numbered, limited edition run that's sure to get trainspotters salivating like Pavlov's dogs. From the jazz-inflected phrasing, subtle phasing and jiggly sub-bass of 'Go Willy-nilly' to the Mills-esque thumpfunk of 'Oh You Mucky Bugger!', there's a bit of everything here, but every last moment is delivered with quality and clearly perceptible personality. You've also got to love outro track 'I'm Leaving', which soundtracks an awkward call to HR with some nicely cheeky, perky exotica.
