Generator: Broadcast In Hi Tech
Abstract Science - "The Grinder"
Andy Rantzen - "The Kiss"
DJ T-1000 - "Detroitism"
Terrence Dixon - "Daily Routine"
Obsolete Music Technology - "Past Virtue"
Plural - "07"
Jamal M - "Fine & Mellow"
Windimoto - "Friday Night: UBQ"
Review: A hefty double 12" from Generator features a slew of basement techno bombs from both sides of the Atlantic (oh, and Australia). From the pounding, relentless throb of Abstract Science's "The Grinder" to the shuffling groove of "Detroitism" by DJ-T 1000, the eight tracks cover the full breadth of techno's rich sonic landscape. Other highlights include the broken beats and woodblock percussion on Plural's "07" and the more experimental vibe of "Fine & Mellow" by Mathematics boss and general Chicago underground legend, Jamal M. An unmissable collection of tracks packaged in highly collectable artwork by Alan Oldham, who was also responsible for the superbly illustrated Defenders Of The Deep House World EP that surfaced on Third Ear a few months back.

Andreas Kraemer & Shadym - "Reflect" (6:29)
DAVE The Drummer & Phil Kershaw - "Bassline Sunset" (6:55)
Review: Hydraulix Records continues to push the boundaries of ravey techno with Va03, a four-track EP that transports listeners back to the early '90s warehouse scene with its infectious energy and relentless beats. Side 1 kicks off with Acerbic's 'Deep In Your Mind,' a heavy sci-fi pounder that channels the essence of early '90s techno rave vibes. With nods to the big Belgium sounds and a prominent Hoover sound, this track is an instant banger that commands attention on the dancefloor. Following suit, Minor Dott's 'What You Callin Acid' delivers a menacing and sinister atmosphere, characterized by its mechanical and demonic undertones. It's a track that exudes raw power and intensity, perfect for those craving an adrenaline-fueled sonic experience. On Side 2, Andreas Kraemer & Shadym team up to bring us 'Reflect,' a percussive and loopy journey through hardcore rave sounds. The track pulsates with energy, immersing listeners in a hypnotic groove that's impossible to resist. Finishing things are Dave The Drummer & Phil Kershaw's 'Bassline Sunset,' a big room rave techno anthem that hits all the right notes. With its infectious bassline and euphoric atmosphere, this track is destined to ignite dancefloors worldwide. Each track on this EP offers a unique sonic experience, making it a must-have for fans of the early 90s rave scene.

Joule
Review: Perc's clearly a busy man these days; with his Perc Trax empire currently expanded to include two sub labels (Perc Trax Ltd and Submit) the revered UK industrial techno producer has joined forces with an equally respected Stateside counterpart on another label. The self explanatory AX&P operation sees Sonic Groove's Adam X align with Perc for a series of intermittent studio collaborations, with the decision to release under this joint banner due to the packed schedules of their respective labels. It's a collaboration that's apparently been in gestation for two years and it shows on this superb debut three track 12" AMPERE & OHM which brings out the best of both. Lead track "Coulomb" is a throbbing mass of tunnelling, weighty techno with sparse percussion snapping away sadistically as proceedings rumble menacingly forth. On the B Side "Dines" is wound tighter, unfurling with deadly precision into a worming DJ tool that takes on increasingly psychedelic qualities as it progresses, whilst "Joule" ensures the relentless nature is kept up but offers a more rhythmic based insight into the AP&X combination.

Review: Native New Yorker Adam "X" Mitchell has long been a fan of collaboration, with a long list previous sparring partners including Ancient Methods, Navario Suaro and, of course, his brother Frankie Bones. For Mutiny & Disorder, he's joined forces again with fellow techno veteran Alistair "Perc" Wells. The duo begin in typically retro-futurist fashion on "Mutiny", whose rising and falling synth lines, dense beats and clanking hits recall the early days of Roman techno. The "back-to-the-future" feel continues with the warped riffs, spacey electronics, apocalyptic textures, surging sub-bass and thunderous rhythms of flipside workout "Disorder".

Review: The Danza Nativa label is fresh off the back of a fine fifth birthday celebratory 2 part compilation but wastes no time getting back to business. Alderaan is the man in charge with his second for the label and 'Transition' kicks off with some mad LFO business melting your mind. Psyk remixes it into a more paired back and spooky subterranean techno prowler. With 'Vortex' there is yet more nocturnal menace with ticking hi-hats seeing rhythm as squelchy, unsettling sounds peel off the beats. 'Futurismo' closes down with a gurgling lead line and distant sci-fi sounds that complete this most futuristic EP.

Review: Poggio and Gabriel Belabbas' cheeky Positive Future label is back once again to bring some playful mischief to the contemporary electro-techno scene. This split release showcases some of the artists orbiting the label, kicking off in spooky style with Aline Umber's 'Hypnotized', which features a pitched down vocal from Poggio no less. Juaan's 'Talt' is equally steeped in B-movie freakery and tongue-in-cheek samples, while Ramez takes things deeper on bass-toting dirtbag joint 'Devil Selectro'. Plazeg finishes the record off with the scattershot bleep feast 'German Physicist', which has a whale of a time plying its own line in gleefully macabre club music.

Erol Alkan - "Sub Conscious"
Phreak - "Acid On"
Review: To complement Erol Alkan's long overdue induction in the Fabric mix hall of fame, the London clubbing institution have pressed up this 10" featuring a rare original production from the Phantasy Sound boss backed with a early 90s rarity from Uwe Schmidt. Within the context of the mix the B Side precedes the A Side, but given how special an Erol Alkan original is, it's no surprise "Sub Conscious" is presented as the main draw here. Undoubtedly inspired by originators such as Hardfloor and Phuture, the acid soaked "Sub Conscious" still has a certain cosmic edge to it, whilst Phreak's "Acid On" sounds just as vital now despite the fact Schmidt originally recorded it some 23 years ago!

Review: Danza Nativa is rightly celebrating its fifth anniversary recently and now follows up the first part of its anniversary compilation with part two, featuring tunes from across a broad spectrum. The first side delves into tribal rhythms and strident synths with Amandra keeping it stripped back and minimal and Dino Sabatini going deep and dubby on 'Danza Tribale'. Brother Love (instrumental) (6:15)
Review: Another Channel's collaboration with Prince Morella on Freund Der Familie Records delivers a stunning dive into deep dub. 'Brother Love' blends a vintage dub aesthetic with a spiritual spoken-word message from Morella, creating a deeply immersive atmosphere. The production masterfully balances warm, chord-focused techno elements with the timeless depth of dub rhythms, resulting in a track that feels both classic and forward-thinking. On the flip side, the instrumental version strips away the vocals, letting the dub-infused textures and hypnotic beats take center stage. The absence of the message emphasises the track's spacious production and rhythmic pulse, making it a perfect tool for introspective listening or adventurous DJ sets. A stellar release that showcases the synergy between dub's roots and techno's evolution.

Anil Aras leads the mission with a rippling Detroitian understated number simply called "Track 1". He's flanked by Paolo Rocco and Moises. Mark Archer, a name familiar to Balkan Vinyl, opens the EP with an electrified piece of four-to-the-floor techno funk, while Ben Pest boils down the instrumentation in "Scheduled Acid" for a track that sounds like a cooler version of Mylo's "Muscle Car". Audio Atlas - "Finland"

Matti Turunen - "Nocturne"
Review: For their sixth release, deep house doyens Bliq present something a little different in the form of Space Culture Volume 1, the label's first compilation 12". The A-side is given over to the dub techno of Audio Atlas, whose track "Finland" is a suitably chilly excursion into mid-tempo 4/4, its steady pulse and icy chords seemingly inspired by a wintry Scandinavian forest at dusk. On the flip, Pietro Tangianu's "Frabaer" is a similarly laid back production, but one that thaws things slightly with its warmer, housier chords, and swung rhythm though its subs are as deep as the A-side. Finally, Matti Turunen's "Nocturne" offers something entirely different, a sparse electro track whose minimal 808 rhythms and thick bass are contrasted with melodic pads and brittle diamond-like textures.

Review: From the minds of Direct Beat and Detroit Bass Classics, comes the first initial compilation of electro/techno heat. "Electro In The Key Of Detroit Vol 1" presents 4 proven dance floor dope and record crate staples that provide the hungry ears of masses the groove to move. A Side features two sure-fire steppers - a rare AUX 88 voyage entitled "Phantom Power" and Blak Tony's tempo-pushing "Holla Holla" finally see the light of day on this wax collectable, giving praise to Motor City footwork culture. On the flip, DJ K-1's "Erase The Time" rocked the airwaves and global clubs with its signature thumping style laced beneath alien-like melody and repetitive vocal structure while Posatronix's mutant-rhythm mantra, "Pure Techno Sound" pulls the weight of Detroit's street dance roots down to the origin of how to boogie in space. Review: It may be a slight shift down in gears from the Brothers' first sonic ear-bashing, which saw the biologically linked Truss and Tessela supply the fizzing hot "UC" alongside Andrew and Dimitry of AnD and Tom Dicicco's monstrous "Multiple Visions", but BROS002 sees the label continue to canvas UK techno's all-embracing reach of industrial and experimental styles. A new cast of all-caps headline this second missive, which sees the label maintain it's sub rosa approach to releasing music. It's since been made known however that AW\\PB, aka Perc and Sync24 supplied the heated "209", while the Cassegrain duo, aka AT\\HE deliver "Liars Go Astray" - both of which furtively skirt between raw and steroid-injected electro and pulsating club techno.

Beekwilder himself kicks off proceedings with the nightmarish pressure of 'Rhythm Allegiance', and then we get a merry romp through all kinds of pile-driving gear from artists like Rove Ranger, Sedvs, Parano, Alarico and Jacobworld. Review: RECOMMENDED
Ride guitarist and singer Andy Bell has been busy in recent times, to put it mildly, as plans to release three EPs and an album between April and June 2021 prove. All set to be put out under the series title 'Ever Decreasing Circles', The Indica Gallery EP is the first in that set, and suggests we're in for a very, very interesting time when the next instalments follow.

The release comprises five remixes of tracks from Bell's 2020 solo outing, The View From Halfway Down, with reworkings completed by Martin Jenkins' Pye Corner Audio project, and the sixth piece here coming in the form of Bell's own edit of a PCA remix of his work, here credited to his GLOK alias. Name-dropping done, the record is a dense electronic trip into psychedelic cosmic disco slo-mo territories, dream-like ambient beauty and loose, baggy-trousered, nostalgic elec-indie fare.

Review: Idris Bena & Paolo Mosca take care of one side each of this tasty new 12" on Opia. Their brand of techno is hugely funky, with a healthy reverie for the past but also a passion to take things forwards. Bena kicks off with 'Earth Delight' which is all happy melodic business and tight, kinetic drums. 'Blood Moon' again brings retro video game melodies to shimmering, well polished tech drums and 'Home' gets busier with the chords and layers up woodpecker hits and sheet metal snares. The b-side is no less intergalactic with 'Different Places' riding a nice buffed up neon bassline while synth modulations get freaky, and last of all 'Orion Trance' brings the subtle waves of euphoria with its trance chords and jacked beats.

The retro, grainy and lo-fi qualities that characterise their work is evident again here on Parallel B. This time recorded in a bungalow somewhere in the Dutch countryside, it finds a distinct middle ground between Palmbomen II a.k.a. Kai Hugo's lo-fi classic house aesthetics and Betonkust a.k.a. Swiere Westveen's taste for gritty electro, acid and Italo sounds. It pays fictional homage to a now deceased famous TV star, who instead on working on the screen, took up a new direction in making music.

Here the duo pairs up again to deliver their debut collaborative 12" on Pinkman. It explores similar sonic territory, with the six tracks variously touching on dark, soundtrack-style analogue ambience ("Donkerblauwe Auto's"), off-kilter acid ("N401"), vintage EBM (the thoroughly druggy motifs, creepy melodies and ricocheting percussion hits of "Suite 100"), blissful early 90s IDM ("Zwaluw"), and eccentric, electro-influenced house ("Boven De Wet"). "Odyssey #1" is a distorted gyration through fizzy atmospheres and chocked bleeps, while Post Scriptum's rolling "Human Timescales" is a cross between the Hauntologists sound and the beats heard on Tobias' Leaning Over Backwards album, also released on Ostgut Ton. Review: Midland's Graded launches a new diffusion imprint: Intergraded. Featured here are four cuts from emerging producers. With Graded now focusing on the label boss's solo work and ReGraded catering to a different style altogether - the logical progression was to start a new label that could help introduce this music to a wider audience. Body In The Thames kicks things off on the A side - despite the name he's actually Swedish. His track "Silver Threaded Crystal Beads" is an emotive piece that sits somewhere between early Detroit techno and electro, in the vein of the Motor City godfather Juan Atkins. On the flip, NTS host Jay (Siren) presents some moody, heads down techno for the late night on "Balsam Drum" while Yorkshire native Webstarr (De Grey/Mistry) goes deep into the afterhours on the darkly hypnotic "The Muse".

Review: Given that both Call Super and Parris have fine track records and have successfully developed their own unique, off-kilter trademarks sounds, you'd expect this first collaborative EP to not only be very good, but also sidestep rhythmic and stylistic conventions. The suite of tracks certainly ticks those boxes, with opener 'Design of a Body Sublime', the first of two tracks featuring vocalist Fox, somehow managing to brilliant fuse elements of broken techno, vintage US garage, Afro-house and UK bass. The track's New Jersey garage influences come further to the fore on the similarly rhythmically off-kilter 'Design of an Eye Sublime', while closing cut 'Design of a Lost Sublime' is a more glitchy, tech-house influenced number rich in curious instrumental samples, 4/4 techno drums and wayward electronic sounds.

Review: Pretty much anything Call Super has touched in recent years has turned to gold. This new collaboration with Parris is no different: it is a self-released project with a fictional backstory involving an ageing writer called Mortise Koshimitsu who lived in a small apartment. The music itself is uptempo but deep, with shimmering wooden hits gliding on elastic drums as ambient synth beauty bleeds into the spaces left behind. "Majenta" is a more cavernous and dreamier track that is as good for home listening as it does for tasteful dancing.

Review: Needs' commendable charity drive continues to bring forth the goods, both in terms of good causes and world class club music. Rallying round in support of World Mental Health Day 2020, Shanti Celeste kicks the record off in style with the rapid fire, deep-diving workout 'Fantasma'. OCB keeps the pressure up with the psychotropic techno of 'RS3', while Michelle works up some delightfully freaky synths on playful jacker 'Aesthetic'. Bobby's 'Free Your Mind' is a 90s-tinged, full fat techno production indebted to Detroit, Peder Mannerfelt keeps things stripped and raw on 'Our Levels' and Yu Su weaves a beautiful tapestry of interweaving rhythms on 'Brittney'. Adam Pits' trippy techno sounds resplendent on 'Wind Tunnel' and DJ Sports completes the set with the inventive, dembow slanted funk of 'Needs Dub'.

Pitched Black - "Ask Not What" (9:30)
Review: The Something In The Water sublabel from Manchester's Rainy City collective continues to prosper with a third installment pairing up Italian producer Toto Chiavetta with label-regular Pitched Black. Up top, Chiavetta's "Where Has Love Gone" is edited down by Pitched Black and teased into a percussive techno workout blessed by a house sensibility, whilst the B-side features a solo production from the shadowy producer. "Ask Not What" sees Pitched Black going for a bleaker approach with plenty of hypnotics and slicing beat work. Fresh and effective tools.

Review: Monstrously glassy, yet heavy hard techno cuttage from the French RAW crew, who welcome four stunning audio fragments from various artists in their orbit. It's the seventh release in the Gemstones series, which is in turn inspired by different types of precious stones. Opener 'Neo Tokyo Vision' is an exciting and cutting tittilator, with massive rave stabs and a nigh-perfect balance of weight and highs, evoking the feeling of freely trawling the city at night with reckless abandon. Things grow grungier from thereon, with the likes of 'Black Mesa' and 'Burned Out' hearing the EP grow increasingly soily, subterranean.

Review: Italian label Prototypes is pretty straight up with their mission statement. It's all about 'classic techno elements blended with eerie atmospheres, dark synths and sharp percussion as essential characteristics.' UK producer Coefficient pursues the bleepier end of hypnotic techno in the same vein as the legendary Sahko, as heard on the trance inducing atmospherics of "Wavefunction Collapse". The fierce remix up next by label boss P.God goes for the jugular in the same style as recent Pole Group or Avian efforts. New Zealander Ben Gibson is featured too, with the lush deep techno excursion entitled "Frontier" which proves that this guy is on point as always. Finally we have P.God again with another fine effort in the form of "Hoag's Object". While certainly not as furious as his aforementioned remix, it certainly is jam packed full of drama and suspense. With its trance inducing melodies, droney pads and strict rhythms channelling that now classic Sandwell District kind of vibe.

Review: A reissue of a classic cut from 1990, Confidential's 'Jam The Frequency' is a quintessential slice of smoothed down progressive house. It's also favourite of underground-famous MC Mr. C, who infamously worked it into almost every set during his long residency at 90s London hotspot The End. Now reissued on Sound Migration, we hear Confidential's glassy production in its clearest iteration yet, but still in the order in which it appeared on the original record. So too comes Primea Facey's 'Jet Black At Birth' on the B, a haunting UK kwaito-ish cut.

Recorded live at Ravitz's Brooklyn studio in just two days, the EP features raw, unedited performances that show off the duo's intuitive rhythm-making skills while drawing on Converse's 90s Michigan rave roots and Ravitz's Chicago upbringing. Review: While the title of Hivern Discs' excellent "Fragments" series may suggest a kind of odds-and-ends approach to A&R, each of the four volumes to date has been anything but sketchy and throwaway. This fifth instalment is every bit as alluring as its predecessors. Check first Cooper Saver's clandestine chugger "Tell" - all druggy modular vibrations, echoing Horror organs and foreboding chords - before turning your attention to the tuneful Boards Of Canada style lead lines and sparse, lo-fi house beats of Pional's "Purple". Arguably even better is the stripped-back, acid-driven headiness of Marc Pinol's "Vol De Nit", while Velmondo's "Transubstantiation" is a fine slo-mo freak out full of devilishly pitched-down drums, weirdo electronics and synthesized marimba melodies.

It comes via Balance Recordings, with boss man Chez Damier acting as 'executive producer'. There's much to admire across the EP, from the suspenseful, alien electronics and slow-build groove of deep Afro-tech bubbler 'Low Pressure (Afro-Acid Mix)', and the light-touch deep house hypnotism of 'Feel Me (Deep Mix)', where DJ Ronaldo-esque synth string sounds catch the ear, to the ultra-deep techno haziness of 'Cantico (Synth Wave Mix)' and the tough, bleeping throb of 'Take It Off (Techno Mix)'.

Review: MBMUSIC Ltd is a fledging label that serves up its first various artist release here. It is an enthralling five-tracker that opens up with the ocean-deep atmospheric techno of Daniel[i]'s 'Contemplate.' MBM then gets more busy with the percussive clatter of 'Crystalline' and Polygonia's aqueous dub techno roller 'Pearl Of Nian' is another unusual sound that draws you in deep. Toki Fuko's '9128' is more menacing and sounds like a deserted factory floor after all the staff have left and V?RYA's 'Dome' is a twitchy and restless broken beat excursion that has you looking over your shoulder.

Review: Almost 18 years on from its debut release, Kompakt Extra is just months away from notching up a century of releases. For 12" number 98, Kompakt's club-focused vinyl offshoot has snapped up a pair of heads-down, late night delights. Danny Daze and Shokh join forces on the A-side, laying down a pulsating chunk of trance-like dancefloor hypnotism whose power derives not from thunderous percussion (though the drum hits are solid enough), but rather restless arpeggio lines, spacey electronics and some mind-altering melodies. On the reverse, Patrice Baumel takes an altogether different approach, slamming down a formidably heavy chunk of bass-heavy techno wonkiness smothered in the sticky humidity of an unlikely jungle rave.

Review: The first release on the freshly minted Molt label is special on a number of levels, not least a transparent marbled vinyl pressing and the inclusion of ten specially prepared locked-grooves from lead artist DB1. He also provides two superb A-side cuts too: the hissing, deep space hum of "Late Night" - a fine fusion of abstract electronics, dub techno and pitched-down grooves - and the abrasive, slowly shifting ambient creepiness of "Tone". Over on side B, DYL offers up a wonderfully creepy slab of sparse, minimalist and metallic techno/bass music fusion while Paragon delivers a druggy trip into alien electronics and strange, sludgy beats and abstract sounds.

Review: Drei Vinyl launched back in 2023 and has slowly but surely amassed a respectable catalogue of various artists' releases. This sixth outing is the most straight-up techno offering yet and it opens with one of Spain's finest in Eduardo De La Calle. 'Deva5Vyasa' is heady and otherworld loop techno perfection with synth daubs and conscious vocals peppering the rubbery kicks. Review: Following up their last compilation 12" with another spread of artists, Deep Space Orchestra's Use Of Weapons imprint hits release number five in fine, classic techno style. The A-Side presents plenty of elegiac goodness to expunge in the peak of the night, not least from Asok with the wistful emotion of "Amber". On the B-Side, Perseus Traxx is especially on point here with his shimmering, Carl Craig-indebted groover, while Other Worlds finds an excellent nagging groove that edges towards hi-tech jazz with its jerky hats and intricate melodies. Ruf Dug is on more mellow form, but no less rooted in the fine approaches of the Detroit godfathers with his warbling pad lines and curious bass.

Review: One of the leading dub related labels to emerge in recent years, Avantroots project of taking dub as a genre to its furthest and freshest perspectives, while still showing the utmost respect for the history and the figures inside it, continues with this eye-opening contribution, 'Linval Thompson Meets Avantroots'. Featuring tracks from the likes of Deepchord, Pulshar, Deepnaut, and Braulio Lam, this latest project (as the name suggests) was led by the dub legend himself, Linval Thompson, who's list of credits and those he's influenced is pages and pages in length. 'World Crisis' is Thompson's key message, running like a refrain, re-emerging throughout the EP and finding new shapes with each artist's fresh approach. Deepchord's iteration, unsurprisingly, is the deepest of the collection, encircling and hypnotic it orbits Thompson's echoed vocals to perfection. Pulshar's take offers greater lyrical clarity, keeping the surrounding production minimal and delectably slow-paced, giving room for each element to breathe. Deepnaut's version is brighter, bubbling with the plucked samples of spaced-out electric guitar and expanding synth pads. Braulio Lam's offering, the final track on the release, is a more experimental, broken groover - chopping and shifting the vocals in a collage effect, refracting Thompson's message in order for it to be seen in a new light. A fantastic release to sink into - fully immersive and richly detailed.

Undoubtedly the most notable inclusion is "The Bond", a rare collaboration between Marcel Dettman and Silent Servant that looks to the sleazy, arpeggio-driven thrust of Electronic Body Music for inspiration. Label boss Developer once again features prominently on this Part One 12" of their tenth entry, contributing two A Side cuts to the face down contributions from Psyk and Rhomb. The expansive bassline to the opening track "Sequence 85" practically consumes you, with Developer's subsequent production "Sequence 88" is markedly sparser, allowing the rigid percussion and booming kicks centre stage.
