Selador Decade Vol 1
3D & Robert Owens - "Known Love" (7:51)
Olivier Giacomotto & Quivver - "Snailblazer" (6:40)
Dave Seaman & Hernan Cattaneo - "Napkin Knowledge" (7:28)
Argia & Jepe - "Salitre" (7:38)
Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. A varied yet firmly cohesive collaborative release - the perfect way for Selador to kick off their 2023 catalogue.

Tronic Jazz The Berlin Sessions 12" Vol 3
Iland
Just Soul
Round Eco
The Dip
Review: Laboratory Instinct grace our shelves with the third in a quartet of 12 inch releases that act as the vinyl version for A Guy Called Gerald's recent and rather sleek ''Tronic Jazz'' album. Your attention on Side A will dominated by the spectral dalliance with vintage Detroit techno mechanics of ''Iland'', with expertly layered syncopation reverberating around to a backdrop of cavernous throbbing bass and dreamy synth lines. This contrasts nicely with the neo techno futurism of ''Just Soul'' with melancholic strings slipping between tense off-kilter drum programming and bubbling atmospherics. Proceedings shift up a gear on ''Round Eco,'' which pulsates with menacing KiNK-ish energy, with an odd vocal murmur forming the driving groove around which Simpson wraps glacial keys and deviant bass twinges. Closing track ''The Dip'' oscillates wildly with B movie sci fi synth lines and scratching metallic tones.

Review: Re-issue to tie into the release of A Guy Called Gerald's new album release "Proto Acid - The Berlin Sessions" (on Laboratory Instinct Records) Sugoi was the earlier of the two imprints that A Guy Called Gerald set up almost exactly a year ago. This particular label was set up to cater for more leftfield inclinations, with a house tempo and everything from dub to breaks to techno thrown into the mix, with Gerald's usual panache for stylistic innovation.

Hang Up
Sweetback
Review: ** Repress ** Dave Huismans swiftly follows on from that incendiary 50 Weapons 12" with an equally explosive return to the Clone Basement Series. One of the first names to contribute to the series back in 2009, both "Hang Up" and "Sweetback" find Huismans eschewing the jagged, garage flecked drill techno dynamism of last year's "Take The Plunge" for some of his "most banging, straight-forward club material to date". The lead track is bristling with uneasy liquid funk, heavily diced Hancock vibes cascading around the buccaneering drum patterns with glee. "Sweetback," meanwhile, creeps out from the murky depths, driven by dust battered kicks and gnarly, sinewy analogue twists - there's no greater philosophy at work here, it's simply dark techno for dark rooms.

RIYL Failures (9:32)
Review: While the name may be new, A New Line (Related) is supposedly the work of an already established musician, although Kimochi was never a label that cared about hype. The music stands just fine on its own, digging into the kind of dusty and dusky house and techno formations that the label has forged its hand-sprayed identity on. There's plenty of ambient techno twirls to be enjoyed on the likes of "Dancing On Soft Borders", while the beats melt away entirely on "After A Short Illness" and grandiose EP closer "RIYL Failures". Once again Kimochi comes up with the kind of meaningful variations on the 4/4 framework that keep our record bags full and our souls enriched.

Review: Often found spiraling amongst the stars, A Sagittariun takes a turn inwards for this formidable foray into tougher techno realms for MPX. The drum jack pressure is real on "No Drama", which also sports a wonderfully psychoactive synth line to wriggle into your nerve endings with potent results. Mor Elian does a killer job on the remix too, chopping up the groove to create some dynamic syncopation around that nagging synth hook. "Loose Fit" and "Hand Of Eris" on the flip keep up the percussive pressure, but there's also plenty of character rubbed into these rhythmic ripples to make it far more than a set of DJ tools.

Review: Norwegian producer A:G has been steadily building up a repertoire for the likes of Aquavit, Det Gode Selskab and Blossy, and now he comes to EYA with a plush sound that skips deftly between techno, electro and deep house. "Look Inside" opens the EP up with a neon-lit sojourn through city streets where the pads are brooding and the bleeps yearn with melancholy not dissimilar to classic Alex Smoke. "Singing Nervous System" is a more uptempo affair that uses a taut 4/4 rhythm section and dark splashes of synth work, while "Snap Out" brings the swing without losing the noirish ambience. "So To Speak" rounds things out with another skippy jam that could go down well at the peak of a sweaty basement hoedown.

Gone Full Circle (7:14)
Review: Oslo's A:G has been doing his thing successfully for some time, side-stepping expectations of music from his home city by delivering music that's frequently heavier and more mind-mangling. Here the Norwegian delivers the debut release of a new label, Nocturnal Expeditions, beginning with the restless acid lines, deep bass, vintage progressive house motifs and semi-bleeping lead lines of 'Beyond The Veil'. He opts for more stomping beats and LFO-inspired bass on the similarly psychedelic 'Patient Paradox', before reaching for rave piano stabs on the nostalgic excellence of 'First of 22'. Best of all, though, is closing cut 'Gone Full Circle', where ethereal melodiesm spacey pads and squelchy TB-303 tweaks ride a psychedelic house groove.

Without Time (Nail remix)
Review: Christian Viers is fast becoming a prominent name on UK underground house and techno circuits, either as part of Lazlo Dancehall alongside Leon Vynehall or his long running A1 Bassline project. Techno-focused releases on his own label, Source Unknown captured the attention of the ears behind the newly formed FINA White resulting in the Bad Timing EP, which the label state is a "strikingly clear indication of the distinctive direction" they plan to take moving forward. Title track "Bad Timing" is a straight up techno banger whose menacingly melodic low-end tones, relentless thump and rolling toms are the driving force behind its robust and looming groove. "Without Time" is a similarly complex percussive cut, but with its jungle inspired Arabic horns, trancey synth-lead breakdowns and acid squelches, whilst UK house veteran Nail offers a more direct 4/4 take on the track with his typically classy remix.

Review: Since Zip and Villalobos made it one of their coveted deep digs to be heard pealing out of a thousand after hours sessions, the Metamatics remix of A1 People has been a teasingly out of reach dream grab for many a minimal electro head. Now Yossi Amoyal has done the good deed of getting the track remastered and repressed as part of his Fluere series toasting 15 years of Sushitech. As well as that masterclass of elegant machine funk, there's also Kosmogonik's mind-bendingly brilliant 'Circuitry', Silicon Scally's body-popping electro-noir 'Relay' and Matt Chester's melancholic 'November Pathways' to keep your up-all-night marathon sets peppered with spangled surprises.

Review: For the first release on their freshly minted Euphoric State sub-label, London label OPIA has turned to '90s survivors A2 & Stopouts, a trio of producers who first made their name as British tech-house pioneers in the late 1990s. The four tracks showcased on "Go With The Flo" apparently date from this period, though this is the first time they've seen the light of day. There's much to admire throughout, from the rolling, funk-fuelled house grooves and intergalactic pads of opener "You Gotta", to the jacking tech-funk of closing cut "Suits You", via the glassy-eyed rush of "Techfest", where sci-fi motifs and dream house electronics rise above bumping beats and a deliciously squelchy bassline.

Left Blank (7:36)
Daily Schemes (5:54)
Review: There is still something so enticing about a limited run techno 12" with nothing but the track titles to accompany it. It feels old school and business like, where the focus is on the music, and the music in the case of this one from A3K on Albeit is superb. 'Rizumu' takes up the whole A-side and is a mix of volatile bass energy and controlled kick drum grooves that keeps things moving but with emotional nuance in the sustained chords up top. 'Left Blank' is a dusty and dubby cut with analogue percussion dancing through the arrangement but the closer is our pick. 'Daily Schemes' is a light and airy house dancer with neat chords and squelchy effects. Perfect back room tackle.

The Israeli tech house master known for such clever titles as Chicago days, Detroit Nights and the producer for Gel Abril among others, is trying something different and indeed using Boddika's label as a platform. "Takeover" is dark, peak time tech house, somewhat different from what you'd expect from him but similar all the same. It's "Street Works" where the real surprise is at; a cyclical and stomping peak technocut that sounds like something on Klockworks. Interesting developments yet in this famed producer's career.

After taking last year off, "1A" is a fine place to start things up again with a strutting jack track carrying acidic synth pulses that flirt with measured delay processing. It's a jam that sounds steamy and sinister all at once. "1B" maintains this restrained but seductive vibe with the slightly trancey throb of the lead synths pivoting around the snappy drums to great effect.

Review: EYA's Lone Wolf sublabel continues to bring us the goods when it comes to deep, old-skool flavoured techno with a house bump. Aving cropped up on a various artists 12" on Lone Wolf last year, Ukranian producer AC130 makes a welcome return with this killer slab of party ready heat. 'Equation' plays the emotional card with its soaring pads, but up front it's a sprightly, upferrit jacker. 'Broken' has a cheekiness in its step, not least thanks to the wobbly lead chords hovering over the track. 'Planetary Vision' plies more of the bleepy, dreamy vibes without dialling back those crisp 909 drums, and then Muelsa steps up with a suitably blissed out remix of 'Equation' that slots in with the mood of the EP perfectly.

Primed with four of Accatone's own productions, Perception demonstrates this producer to be a fiend for the groove and rhythm yet also mindful of 808 drum samples and lush chords. Accatone's musical know how, gained through a life on full front musicianship and live acts, enables him to translate his soul world influences into contemporary House music. It's difficult to sum up his productions and his DJ sets as in a way he thrives for the old school House and Techno and brings his own imprint, a highly organic dance floor experience that can change in a clap and still maintain a natural voyage like flow. With a vast music selection on his crate, Accatone is able to blend both the old and new without any trouble of a sort.

Review: Continuing their quest to bring fresh textures and atmospheres within acid-orientated music, Edit Select and Iron Curtis are back once again at Absurd Recordings under their Achterbahn D'Amour moniker. Lead track "Cardbox" is a tense cut that pivots on a brooding Moog-like bassline and uneasy sonic decoration, but built around a solid yet minimal beat that keeps everything locked down tight. Innerspace Halflife opt for an aquatic dub freak out of a remix, leaving it to "Harmonia" to smooth out the edges incurred previously with some positively floaty synth action that could almost pass for early-days Move D.

A new collaborative project between Iron Curtis and Edit Piafra, it sees the duo explore the jerked out stripped down end of the Chicago House spectrum with the sprawling stuttering acid twirl out of "Talking Acid" a definite highlight. Review: Los Angeles based acid freaks Absurd return with another chapter in their Acid Test series. For their 13th controlled drug trial they have tapped label staples Achterbahn D'Amour - the duo comprised of Edit Piafra and Iron Curtis. This is their seventh release for the label thus far. With this project they express their love for the raw side of Chicago house, techno and EBM but specifically the sounds of the infamous little silver box. There's some deeply aquatic trance induction on offer, with for instance the dynamic opener "Balustrade", while they channel some Donato Dozzy (who has also appeared for the label previously) styled hypnotic techno on the sinister "Dehaveland" which also gets a respectful and more powerful VC-118A remix by the always impressive Samuel Van Dijk. Finally things end on a sublime electro tip with the emotive robotic movements displayed on "Don't Talk To Me".

In the wrong hands, this could have ended horribly, sounding like an advert for a package tour to Morocco. Thankfully on El Maghreb, for I:Cube's always essential Versatile, the pair manage to bring these two worlds together with great flair. The most functional track is "Mogador (club version)", where dense drums and spiraling horns create a fantastical, frenzied track. However, it's not hard to escape the notion that Acid Arab are capable of far more adventurous combinations and this is audible on the hypnotic, mysterious pipe playing and seductive pulses of "Hafla" and on "Amal", a slow-motion, dubbed out mood music piece.

The power of the A Side creeps beneath your senses slowly but with real stealth, the kaleidoscopic acid swirl steadily unfurling as the track progresses. Review: Acoustic Vision crafts an exceptional EP bursting with rich techno personality. The opening track, 'Peyote Country Club' grabs attention immediately with its infectious rhythm, sharp percussion, and irresistible flow. A light yet captivating melody hovers over deep, bouncing basslines, building into a perfect storm of dancefloor energy. It's a standout cut that seamlessly blends a cool vibe with driving momentum. 'Human Endeavour' ventures into darker territory, offering a tribal groove layered with eerie, hypnotic elements. The haunting melodies create a sense of being swept into a deep, mystical rave, where the rhythm pulls you in. Subtle house influences sneak in as the track progresses, with distant keys adding a sophisticated touch that leaves an impression on you.
'Every Pleasure, Every Sin' shifts gears, delivering a refreshing blend of ambient house that feels like a breezy summer afternoon. The track is pure elegance that harkens back to the vintage early 90s. The remix of the same track turns things on their head, adding a wicked bassline, playful breakbeat, and a more ominous vibe. The inclusion of an acid line gives it a nostalgic, classic feel, ensuring this version stands out with its playful edge.
Definitely an artist to watch in the future."

Review: The Kwench label is back with more tasteful and timeless house and techno fusions here as Ad & The Persuader link up for The Truth EP. The title cut opens up with some lazy, wavy, dubby grooves with heady pads and then a dub version makes it even more fleshy and horizontal. 'Strolling' keeps things classy and deep cut with pillowy kicks toped with starry-eyed melodies and some glitchy perc. An cappella closes out the EP for DJ use. This is a quietly excellent 12" that oozes quality.

Review: Repressed and back in. Old skool Chicago tech-house. For fans of the Relief label, Mike Dearborn, and the recent Steve Poindexter record (which featured a Hieroglyphic Being cut). Just as funky as it is techy.

Keeping The Book (Steve Rachmad version 2) (5:54)
Review:  On German producer and Aleph label founder Aera's latest release, the coalescing of influences from the past forty years of electronic music is audible. From the early electronic-style noises that warble over the bubbly acid pulse on the title track to the deeper than deep house of "Krystal Close" and the Mathew Jonson-sounding micro-trance melodies of "Keeping the Book", Running Hot is nothing if not adventurous and diverse. Innervisions also deserves praise for its choice of remixer; Steve Rachmad is not the most immediate name one would associate with the German label, but he does a fine job here, turning "Keeping the Book" into a deep, pulsing techno track, accentuating the original version's beautiful spacey-ness.

Review: Tim Xavier and Tony Rohr are back with another genre-pushing release on Clink. Acclaimed for its original sound, this label has brought us unique imprints for the last two years and is still heading at full-force. "Goodbye Drunk Foot" is another Afternoon Coffee Boys release. It is a quirky, rousing minimal twister to freak you out.

Review: "We Are" needs no introduction. The highly successful coloured 10inch series which was kick started by Sweden's mastermind Agaric, finally presents a new pressing. "Volume 8" comes with two mind-blowing, stripped down techno productions. These babies will take you for a long and pleasant ride. Along the way you are fed with a vibrating bass and a velvet bass drum.

Review: Some of the most promising Swedish artists on this new Moll release. The label is an excellent guideline of today's techno movement. Firm thumping kicks are at the base of these dancefloor monsters. The boys turn out to be full blown bassline engineers, pushing the envelope when it comes to supersonic frequencies.

Review: After five successful releases which have generated support by Martin Landsky, Dominik Eulberg, Plastikman, Michael Mayer, Frank Lorber, Mandy etc. These 10" coloured vinyls have reached number 6 (out of 10) in the series. once again labelowner Agaric has made the A-side track, for this one a delightfully melancholic peace of music yet with a pounding bottom groove to go with it. Guesting the B-side is the brilliant young star from Jena: Mathias Kaden, known for recent outstanding work on labels like Vakant and Freude Am Tanzen.

Pyramid (Oliver Moon remix) (7:24)
Review: Oliver Moon introduces the Dancing With Strangers record label, alongside good friend and fellow DJ/Producer Paul Louth aka Agile Kind - who inaugurates the label here. While it may have been a long time between drinks for the veteran DJ on the production front (he's intermittently created music under aliases like Water Walk and Soulfish over the years) he proves that slow and steady wins the race on the "Pyramid EP". The emotive vibe of early '90s British IDM and US techno-soul is eminent throughout. From the sensual deepness of the title track or B side cut "Mime" which are reminiscent of classics by the likes of DaRandLand, not to mention the full throttle rework by legend Kirk Degiorgio under the As One moniker on the flip.

Panta Rei (Danton Eeprom remix)
Panta Rei (Eduardo De La Calle Analog Solutions remix)
Review: InFine boss Agoria returns with three versions of "Panta Rei". Opening proceedings on the A-Side is the decidedly trippy Balearic version, which skips along with shimmering keys and shuffling, unobtrusive rhythms. Next up, French dandy Danton Eeprom turns in a tweak that reaches for the stars, adding an extra sheen of hedonism to those twinkling arpeggiated synths. It's left up to Eduardo De La Calle of Analog Solutions to restore some grit to proceedings with a rubbery techno interpretation that adorns the B-Side.

Sabotage Signals (Kompo remix) (6:49)
Review: It's time to head back to Seven Hills for more rolling minimal landscapes, this time thanks to the efforts of David Agrella. The Brixton-based artist has dropped plenty of heat recently on labels like RFXN and AGR and keeps up the fine run of form with this one. 'Deseo' is a tight and dark bumper with warped chords and mysterious pads, then 'Kom Dansen' keeps it deep and moody with heavy and cubby drums and 'Sabotage Signals' layers up glitchy FX, sonorous bells and thudding techno drums which Comp remixes into a nice steady and heads down tech house march.
