Mono Middle (6:37)
Whenever Voi (6:06)
Free Upload (4:53)
Van Cul (5:31)
Past Vibration (3:14)
Review: It's common knowledge now that #.4.26. is Ilian Tape mainman Dario Zenker, who under this alias released a slew of hard hitting DJ tools on cult label Frozen Border - and this is his first new material under the name since five years. From the sheer terror of dynamic opener "Mono Middle", a dystopian electro number saturated in dense lo-fi fuzz, the broken beats continue on the minimal boom and thump of "Whenever Voi". But it's the B side that proclaims no more Mr. Nice Guy here, with the slamming old school energy of "Free Upload" calling to mind the early '90s sound of Djax or Pro-Jex, while "Van Cul" again demonstrates Zenker's fine ability to weave broken beat arrangements into epic, big room techno bangers.

Cat: CS 023. Rel: 23 Nov 20
Jive (7:44)
Honkey (Crazy Hats) (5:42)
Ochos (6:48)
Review: The ever prolific Lee Renacre is on Constant Sound in his 100Hz guise for a fresh trip through expressive techno and house music delivered with a warm, old-skool flavour. 'Jive' skips and twirls across the A side in a swung, sprightly exploration of soft and rounded synth lines and pleasingly chunky beats, capturing a dusky ambience along the way that's so easy to melt into. 'Honkey (Crazy Hats)' takes things deeper with a more rhythm-focused joint that maintains a submerged feel throughout. 'Ochos' completes the set with a deep tech house meditation rich in melodious uplift, striking a spiritual tone which would go down very well with someone bumping records on Yoruba and other such labels.

100Hz - "Kinetic Wasp" (7:06)
Charonne - "Vice City" (5:27)
Cobert - "Spaceghetto" (5:55)
Charonne - "Formule Stardust" (6:17)
Review: Domenico Rosa and Riccardo's Imprints label has regularly delivered the goods since making its debut back in 2013. Predictably, this multi-artist affair is also rather impressive. French twosome Charonne is arguably the star of the show, delivering two tidy tracks: the bouncy and far-sighted "Vice City", where '80s synth-funk style motifs and acid-funk electronics ride a bustling groove, and the similarly-inclined, elastic tech-house-funk of "Formule Stardust". Elsewhere, turn-of-the-90s survivor 100Hz delivers a fine chunk of woozy deep house/funky techno fusion and Cobert delivers some spacey and chunky, mid-set tech-house. In other words, all four tracks are playable and worthy of your attention.

100Hz - "Innocence" (8:47)
Saverio Celestri - "Vortex" (7:48)
Saverio Celestri - "Toxic" (6:59)
Review: Slow Life's latest audio missive draws together tracks from two different generations of techno producers. On the A-side, you'll find two cuts from veteran British pairing 100HZ, who put out their first material way back in 1989 (the rather good "Low Frequency Overload"). "New Spoon" is a fizzing techno jam blessed with clattering drum machine hits, jaunty bass, crisp funk samples and a meandering spoken word vocal, while "Innocence" is a denser, sub-bass fuelled trip into late night territory. On the flip, contemporary Italian-in-Berlin Saverio Celestri takes over, first serving up the strobe-friendly New Jersey garage-meets-Detroit techno charms of "Vortex", before charging off into space via the restless rhythms, intergalactic bleeps, heavy sub-bass and wavy chords of "Toxic".

Kobayashi Maru
Review: Slowly but surely Voodoo Down has built up a reputation as a deep house label you can trust. Its biggest release thus far was last year's Unstable Phenomenon EP by October (featuring a Joey Anderson remix), while other 12"s have featured STL Anton Zap and L'estasi Dell'oro. Of the six records that Voodoo Down has released, the artist/entity 12 x 12 has featured on half, and now the label offers the enigmatic 12 x 12 their own solo release. All three tracks are experimentally edged with "Partial" the most out-there and broken down production, while "Typical Male Behaviour" sounds like the workings of a robotic forest and creepy crawlies that inhabit it. Lastly, the title track is synthy, sunny and spaced out. More original, dope jams from the Voodoo Down crew.

Lick My Chain (4:44)
Lick My Chain (PSL remix) (5:56)
Review: A solid four track EP on Step Ball Chain records blending minimal and tech house with a splash of techno. offering a diverse range of sounds for late-night dancefloors. Side-1 starts with 'Do U Want Me', a playful peak-time house track filled with nostalgic old-school samples and a serious grooveiperfect for keeping the energy up during those late-night sets. It's followed by 'Make Me', which shifts gears into a dubby mix of dubstep and liquid drum 'n' bass, offering a bass-heavy, laid-back vibe. On Side-2, 'Bassy Bits' drives things forward with its fast-paced tech house beats and dirty bassline, making it a DJ-friendly gem designed to shake the dancefloor. Then there's 'Lick My Chain', a deeper, moodier track with a wall-shaking bassline and a futuristic, sensual atmosphereia slick, immersive cut for those looking to bring the energy down but keep the intensity up. Rounding off the EP is the 'Lick My Chain' (PSL remix), which adds a techy edge and a sexy vocal, transforming the track into a late-night anthem. Overall, Step Ball Chain Holland is a versatile release for tech house and electro fans alike.

Wherever You Go (8:34)
I Will Follow (10:37)
Review: Jochem Peteri's material under the NewWorldAquarium moniker has, in all honesty, kept the house and techno scene grounded over the years. So much so that the Dutchman's simple yet singular touch is still seen by many as the pinnacle of the last ten years of dance music resurgence, and it is difficult to think of anything he has put out that isn't memorable. He's here with his 154 alias this week, up on Boomkat's Ediitons imprint, with two ethereal slices of house bliss, tinted by a warm and peaceful ambient glow. "Wherever You Go" and "I Will Follow" are two sides of the same coin, the journey told in two separate chapters, where vast electornic soundscapes drive the tracks forwards; the beats, a placid collection of distant kicks, linger in mid-air magnificently. This is Ross 154.

154 - "Daze" (3:25)
Damon Lamar - "Rising Sun" (7:57)
Claro Intelecto - "Signifier" (6:19)
Lowtec - "Dat America" (6:48)
Review: Styrax's alphabetized Specials series reaches its fourth volume (or Styrax I / Styrax J to use the correct parlance) with four typically sumptuous examples of archival house. 154's delightfully fuzzy "Daze" opens proceedings, which will cause much misty eyed reminiscing for anyone who indulged in the 2004 Delsin released album Strike it first appeared on. Alongside it, Damon Lamar's luxuriously paced "Rising Sun" is borrowed from Tetrode Music, its intoxicating swirls of kaleidoscopic textures every bit as potent as when it first surfaced. The flipside tracks are naturally in a similar vein with some 2003 bounciness from Claro Intelecto complemented by "Dat America", Lowtec's 1999 jam for the Playhouse imprint.

Forager (6:37)
Insects (8:06)
LSD Casualty (6:26)
Review: Lobster Theremin has previously used their occasional Black Label Series to deliver gritty, forthright, techno-leaning fodder from newcomers Manse, Snow Bone and Reflec. Here, they reignite the series by handing a debut to previously unknown Canadian trio 1800HaightStreet. It's an impressively assured debut, too, with the Vancouver outfit getting a good balance between surging drum machine rhythms, curious electronics, paranoid textures and just the right amount of hazy beauty. Such is the EP's strength that picking out highlights is a tough task. Try the freaky techno stomp of "LSD Casualty" and the jazz-flecked mustiness of "Forager", though the whole EP is superb.

Review: The ever impressive Vancouverites 1800HAIGHTSTREET are back on Lobster Theremin sub label Mork with their second release, which follows up 2015's Heldled EP. Hardware driven, all analogue jams conjuring a glacial style of northern soul from the Pacific Northwest can be heard throughout the Age EP. From the steely and trance-inducing loops of the title track (reminiscent of classic Savvas Ysatis or G-Man), the cavernous and emotive greyscale deepness of "Ankh" or the contemplative industrial textures of "Rest".

Review: London label Pacific Command brings the heat again, this time courtesy of Vancouver act 1800HAIGHTSTREET (Lobster Theremin/Mork) who follow up some killer releases by nthng and Reflec. Starting out with the lush and deeply hypnotic "Georhythms" with its airy pads, broken beat and tribal percussion, they then get stuck into the fierce industrial techno rage of "Apprentice" which calls to mind classic Marcel Dettmann or more recently Fango. Finally, on the flip is "Interactions" which carries on with the more aggressive tendencies with its reverb and delay drenched aesthetics, creating some properly tunnelling vibes for sure-fire dancefloor impact.

Track 3
Review: The second release for the ever-enigmatic Horizontal Ground label in 2013 comes from 19.21.3.11.21.20, which Discogs has now revealed to be Markus Suckut. If this is true, HG15 marks the end of magnificent year for the German, with an album on Len Faki's Figure, and a stack of remixes for labels Droid, Sleaze and Soma. "Track 1" is a funky acid workout, and something that would nestle quite neatly into a Marcel Dettmann or Roman Lindau set, while "Track 2" is a spacious dub piece that falls somewhere Ben Klock's "Gold Rush", Shed's "Bot" - and Federsen's "50 Hz". For regular listeners of Markus Suckut's music, "Track 3", with its dry beats and subtle atmospherics, will be a slap in the face for not realising it was Suckut sooner.

Review: London label No More Dreams are back with more dry-as-a-bone techno reductions by Sweden's Axel Backman. This will appeal to fans of Waveform Transmissions era Jeff Mills (particularly on the savage and cyclical grind of "93") or classic Regis and Surgeon. Shadowy British duo Rezzett get onboard for a remix of "94" on the flip , where the Trilogy Tapes affiliated artists replace the gutsy tribal stomp of the original with a deep and slow burning rendition that slithers away beneath dense tape saturation and hiss -much like a vivid dream sequence captured to VHS. Bold stuff indeed. Tip!

Bittersuite - "Squeeze In"
Miles Sagnia - "Can We Heal Them?"
Review: Atmospheric Existence Recordings keep up their annual release rate with label boss Miles Sagnia inviting 1Dan and Bittersuite to join him on only the third release. Newcomer 1Dan opens proceedings with the sprawling soft machine funk flex of "Foundations", a track driven by gutter deep bass movements, steppy syncopation and rich sonic textures that no doubt helped influence the title of the EP. On the flip Bittersuite step forward with the upwards acid dub pressure of "Squeeze In" which steadily accrues an acidic overtone before a delightful left turn into a futuristic mechano soul rhythmic thrust. It's left to Sagnia to provide the final moment with the tightly relentless throb of "Can We Heal Them" that slowly reveals its inner acid brilliance.

Passion Of A Night
Review: The Jungle referencing Valley Of The Shadows series from Hague outpost Creme Organization was launched earlier this year with the aim of halting some of the fragmentation that afflicts the underground. Given this first 12" has experienced severe pressing delays, maybe the underground should crowd source the financing of some fresh vinyl pressing plants? Regardless of that VOTS001 finds Creme joining forces with their Amsterdam-based compadres to present a two track transmission from 2AMFM, aka Nation pair Tadd Mullinix and D'Marc Cantu. The tumbling Axel F goes Jakbeat vibes of "Starfist Lazerbeam" are particularly good here! Watch out for future collaborations with LIES and upstarts Berceuse Heroique.

It embodies a new sound coming from the celebrated Motor City that draws on everything which went before and adds new perspective, emotion and sound designs. 'Stella' is a lithe and soulful cut with minimal drums and a cosmic atmosphere, while 'Tribal Dance' brings brighter chords and more playful patterns over raw-ass drums. There is plenty of Omar-S's rough hewn drum work in 'Apply Pressure' and elsewhere '8 Mile Boogie' brings a Mediterranean Balearic vibe to the D in superb fashion. An intriguing EP for sure.

Review: The Netherlands has always excelled at electro, particularly on the West Coast. As such it has a wealth of labels that are always go-to for proper electro heads no matter the day's prevailing trends. Frustrated Funk is one of them. 214 lands on it here but doesn't hang around for long, instead taking off to the cosmos on some enthralling rhythms and edgy synth patterns that flash and dash about the mix. 'Pocket Camp' is a stuttering, jittery one that shines bright and is backlit by celestial charm, 'Our Walks At Teneriffe' is another direct but cinematic sound and 'Isla Del Encanto' completes this one with the sort of urgent energy that carries you through the night.

Washington State artist Chris Roman issued his second 214 album on Shipwrec last year and returns here for "I See What You Did There", the first of several singles to arrive over the coming months - Central Processing Unit, Frustrated Funk and Lunar Disko also have records in the works with him. Review: Frustrated Funk, Shopwrec and Central Processing Unit are just some of the quality labels on which the enigmatic 214 has delivered his wayward strains of electro and techno. This new single for Lunar Disko is straight-up, high calibre business, as per usual, starting with the mesmerising pads and alluring soundscapes of "The Breakfast Club", a beat-driven escapade through a wave of majestic synths. "Lunar Landing" is more on the Dutch electro side of things, thanks to its sub-aquatic beats and general demeanour while, on the flip, "Jade" injects some Chicago house live through an industrial filter, and "Hurley" liquifies its synths down to a thick pool of sonics and subtle beats. McPike has previously released on Forbidden Planet and Normals Welcome and you're sure to hear more of his usual raw and hardware driven jams. The slow grinding acid of "Killed By Deaf" starts things off on a good note, accompanied by rusty rhythms and a soaring synth lead that sounds like a guitar. "Outlaw" is brilliant; a dusty post punk jam that sounds like something off Faith by The Cure. On the flip "Technocracy" is a sombre and soulful deep techno jam whose lo-fi emotive vibes remind us of D'Marc Cantu. Finally the Drexciyan electro groove of "The Rig" is totally sick and will knock your socks off. Tip!

Review: 30drop debuts on Token with From Beyond The Unknown -- a six-track journey that evokes an excommunicative sense of splendor from the outer reaches of worlds beyond. Beginning with Surrender an immediacy pulsates from the outset and dances towards the playful exuberance of The Informant -- calibrating the gears for what frequencies are to be heard in the interim. Space Beacons delights with elegant pads and wry rhythmic evocations, while Mathematical Language bursts with energies that have been long dormant since the days of Jeff Mills' The Purpose Maker. In that same vein, Visitors From The Stars is an entropic message from above, seeking out a communicative line that's emotive and conductive -- leading towards the last track of this journey. Sagan's Implication is an adroit homage to the legendary astrophysicist; leaning into melodics that are both marvelous and mysterious all at once -- similar to finding the answers that lie above us. All in all, a journey that begins by looking past what's diegetic and looking for answers past the narrative presented.

Hopes, then, are naturally high for the Serbian's debut on Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S imprint. Opener "13" sees the Belgrade producer indulging his melancholic side, with bittersweet chords and mutant electronics wrapping themselves around a dense, Afro-influenced rhythm. "Mecanica Number 1" takes this new-found rhythmic funk into a more distorted, L.I.E.S-ready direction - think ricocheting hits, post-industrial textures and redlined rhythms - while "LVIV" sounds like the aural accompaniment to a druggy jog through a South American rainforest after dark.

Review: Last year, it was unofficially announced that Serbian musical misfit Nenad Markovic (AKA the snappily-named 33.10.3402) had delivered an album to L.I.E.S. While we're still waiting for that set, this 12" marks the experimental techno and ambient producer's third EP for Ron Morelli's prolific imprint. He begins in predictably creepy, otherworldly fashion, effortlessly blending backwards percussion, snatched field recordings, heavy bass and ghostly electronics on epic A-side "100 Drone Radio Passive Scape". Things get a little more upbeat on B1 cut "No Decline A (121 Roland MC303), where manipulated, acid-style electronic lines rise and fall over a metronomic kick-drum. Meanwhile, Markovic's innate ability to turn experimental productions into atmospheric ambient classics is once again showcased on closing track "O Tom Protom ST".

Metamorphoze (6:26)
T Bov (6:34)
Review: Lovefingers' ESP Institute has absolutely smashed it over the last five years, releasing an impressive amount of music by a wide selection of disco-leaning producers from Mark E to Tornado Wallace and Soft Rocks. For this latest episode, Nenad Markovic aka 33 10 3402 is back with the fourth helping of his Mecanica series and as you'd expect, it's nuthin' but stripped back techno for the open-minded. On the A-side, "Metamorphoze" takes a heavy 4/4 kick and unleashes it beneath raucous sonics and odd modular sonics, while on the flip, "T Bov" makes no effort to meander into a straight groove and instead Markovic comes up with a broken groove that's full of dread and bleakness. Quality as per usual from the ESP mandem!

Slow Port (8:19)

Elika (4:41)
Review: Andrew Hogge aka Lovefingers has been going strong thanks to his ESP Institute label, an imprint made up of outside thinkers such as Nenad Markovic aka 33 10 3402 and his distinctly singular brand of psychedelic techno. This is the third chapter of the Mecanica series, possibly named from and inspired by Beppe Loda's infamous mixtapes of Afro-industrial percussion disco, and "Slow Port" starts things off with a gloriously slow-burning groove filled with intricate percussion chops and slices - a true jewel! "Plutonium Certainly" is as mad as its name suggests - a mass of low frequencies and broken hi-hats dominating its structure - and "Elika" is a more docile ambient work which dives head-first into the ether...and so should you!

Review: The esteemed ESP Institute label overseen by digger extraordinaire Lovefingers seems to be right in the midst of a purple patch right now having just dropped excellent long players from Young Marco and the Blase duo of Secret Circuit and Suzanne Kraft. Ahead of exciting returns for Tambien and Tornado Wallace, ESP offer another sublime slice of electronic funk for the open minds out there from Nenad Markovic's 33 10 3402 project. This is the second installment of Markovic's Mecanica series and it's a sound we've personally some to associate with Beppe Loda's infamous mix tapes from the mid-80s cosmic scene in Northern Italy. Both tracks are heavily reminiscent of that era, where brash African drums meet intricate electronic manipulations and funky basslines. A beautiful crossing of post-punk, cold wave and funk. Sublime!

Olivier Giacomotto & Quivver - "Snailblazer" (6:40)
Dave Seaman & Hernan Cattaneo - "Napkin Knowledge" (7:28)
Argia & Jepe - "Salitre" (7:38)
Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. A varied yet firmly cohesive collaborative release - the perfect way for Selador to kick off their 2023 catalogue.

Review: AVN #011 sees Shifted and Ventress' Avian label look to the USA for the first time, as it taps up New York producer Shaun O'Sullivan for a six-track EP under his new 400PPM alias. O'Sullivan already has a deep knowledge of techno developed over a broad range of musical projects as anyone who has heard his excellent releases for The Corner and L.I.E.S. will attest. Bookended by two stark explorations into noise, the EP is joined by four solid techno productions which all marry the hard-hitting industrial sounds of pioneers like Adam X together with the rolling percussion and impressive sound design of the Berghain school of Dettmann and Klock. The off-kilter syncopations and metallic clutter of "Monoculture" is a particular highlight in what is another essential 12" from Avian.

Review: With just the one 400ppm release to his name, 2013's high-octane No Nocere 12" for Avian, you would be forgiven for thinking this was a one-off project from New York's Shawn O'Sullivan. However, given his various other solo and collaborative endeavours (Further Reductions and Civil Duty being the most prominent of the latter) it's no surprise to see a dearth of 400ppm goodness. All that changes with Just In Time, the first 12" of what looks to be a more productive year for Shifted's Avian label than their 2015, and a record that features four superb productions from O'Sullivan. Those wanting some stripped back techno blessed with heady, warping drones and frenetic sequencing will find plenty to enjoy here; "Everyday Extinction" sounds particularly mind-bending.

Review: Having recently devoted more of his time to the breezy, melodious bliss of the D.K project, Dang Khoa-Chau once again dons the 45 ACP alias for a more downbeat E.P on L.I.E.S. It's arguably far more accessible than his previous work for the label under the now familiar moniker, but still pleasingly left-of-centre. There's much to admire throughout, from the poignant melodies, drifting keys and spaced-out drums of "Hang In There", and Marimba-laden deep space techno of "Smoked Out", to the clarinet-laden ambient textures of bittersweet closer "Graveyard Shift". While opener "Slick Response" - a bubbling, ear-pleasing chunk of metronomic techno - feels a little more positive, it's still largely melancholic in tone.

Review: Fran Mela's Dog In The Night label continues it's haphazard assault on our affections with a seventh release so far this year coming from French producer 45 ACP. Otherwise known as D.K., Parisian Dang Khoa has experienced something of a creative rebirth this year after a few years working as Darabi alongside Low Jack, with releases on Antinote, Odd Frequencies and Get The Curse. This being Dog In The Night, Khoa has reserved his most bugged out productions for the five track Hold On EP and anyone that's dipped their toes in the label's previous output will most definitely approve. If you like your house music to sound like it's on the cusp of all out malfunction then cuts like "Hold On" and "keep Walking" are likely to pepper your sets for months to come.

Taking an interesting change in direction from its usual choice of banging peak time techno tools. Also worth mentioning his album "Change Of Tone" was also released this year on the former. All the tracks on this release here sounding reminiscent of early nineties school Chicago house and all in rather convincing fashion. Analogue purists take note! More promising things on offer from this mysterious Parisian producer.

Review: DK's 45 ACP moniker has been a staple of the Russian Torrent Versions household since the label's inception and, along with an impressive run for parent label LIES, the producer has become one of our most recommended artists. This new EP contains a mixture of pure dance bullets and some more left of field grooves, but 45 ACP always manages to retain his singular take on techno. "Safe Action" is all about rhythm and percussion, a heavy club warmer with a rugged edge to its beats, while "Stage Clear" is a gentler, more tropical abstraction infused with warm waves of synths. "Second Strike" is another militant driver of beats, but its soothing pads render it playful and mystical, leaving "Digital Content" to sign this EP off with a more experimental touch. Another bomb from RTV!

Review: One year later, UVB-76's shadowy collective 4 6 2 5 strike again with two more unique startling schematics. Flexing across the tempo axis, "Sedition" leads with a fast 170 twist as hard pneumatic kicks cut through the dense foggy atmospherics before doubling up the momentum and taking unpredictable twists midway. "Crown Of Nails" maintains the hunchback pressure and that heavy foreboding sense synonymous with each member of the collective, but does so at a cool 105BPM pace giving space for each percussive element to ricochet around your purdy little pranged-out soul.

Review: Under the alias 4E, producer Can Oral created his own unique sound of raw, futuristic acid-electro. The A-Side tracks "Ask Isadora" and "Conga Banana" first appeared on the album, Blue Note, released on Home Entertainment in 1996. On the flip are two unreleased tracks picked from his extensive archive and edited by FIT Siegel. These were also recorded during this era, which Can describes below:

"In the 90s I moved to NYC to start a band with Jimi Tenor. I had a small flat in the East Village with the apartment number 4E and that became my artist name for the downtempo and electro material I was working on. The style I called Futuristic Electro because I didn't want to relate to the old school with this. I had my studio on the kitchen floor and pretty much only used EMU SP-1200, TB-303, TR-808 and SH-101 by good ol' Roland. In a way NYC was still developing because it was all about house music. In 1995, I opened Temple Records in Manhattan with Dr Walker from Air Liquide and DJ DB from Smile Communications. The record shop was inside the Liquid Sky clothing store. After a fire in the shop, along with a falling out with the owner I decided to talk to a fortune teller to find out what the future held. Her name was Isadora, and she had a TV show called "Ask Isadora." She told me on live television to move out, have my own shop and be independent, so I did. Thanks Isadora!"

Following on from excellent work supporting the likes of Archetype, the US label can now be found shining a spotlight on the work of Can Oral under the 4E moniker. Originally appearing on labels such as Force Inc and Mille Plateaux, 4E's sound was quintessentially mid-90s, but only surfaced over a short period of time between 1994 and 1998. This record originally came out on Sockett in 1996, and it's been sought after as avid diggers pull out every thread of dope, adventurous electro they can find. Discogs pirates laugh no more, because now this essential record is back in the hands of the real music fans!

Review: Back to 96: The 4th Wave was a producer named Steve Paton. Also operating under aliases such as The Invisibles and Lo-Fi Sensibilities (when he appeared on Mo Wax), Steve didn't remain active for too long outside of the 90s but he left us two killer EPs. One on Planet E in 95 and this one on Kirk Degiorgio's Op-Art in 96. Reissued for the first time, and now featuring the twinkling downtempo delight "Lounge Music" (which was only ever previously available on a compilation), it's a powerful example of the Detroit/UK feedback loop at the time as both techno hubs were influencing each other. "Attention Please" rolls out the breaks, "Mean Streets" bites like a woozy UR record while "Cosmic Dance" whips up a tribal frenzy for the finale. 23 years old and still sounding future.

Review: The sixth issue from Jealous God, and the first of what promises to be another year of intrigue for the label, pairs up visual director Juan Mendez with 51717, aka New York artist Lili Schulder. Any fans of Schulder's 51717 cassette for Opal Tapes or her Shadowlust collaboration with Svengalisghost will be excited by the prospect of some new music committed to wax and she's on wonderfully abstract form here. Listening to opening track "The Glove" is an experience similar to being slowly covered by a viscous liquid to the point of suffocation, with her barely audible spoken word delivery only adding to the sense of foreboding. Complementing this, 51717 provides two shorter but equally striking compositions with "Regard" especially chilling. It's a mood that seeps into the two Silent Servant productions with "Severed Union" ripe mixtape opener material. Do check the mix CD from Surface Tension pair Nihar Bahall & Jason Polastri too!

Review: 62nd Cell may be a new name, but the producer behind it, David Campbell, boasts a discography that stretches right back to the tail end of the 1980s. He's perhaps most famous for his early '90s work for General Production Recordings and R&S under the Hi-Ryze and Autonation aliases. The six tracks showcased here vary in style, drawing influence from original Detroit techno, electro (see the fantastically heavy and spacey "April Fool's Day"), IDM, and even dusty, ambient house era hip-hop (sub-heavy closer "Bluestuff"). We're particularly enjoying the bleep and bass meets carnival techno brilliance of "Get Out", but to be honest it is all pretty darn good.
