Make Me (4:34)
Bassy Bits (5:36)
Lick My Chain (4:44)
Lick My Chain (PSL remix) (5:56)
Review: A solid four track EP on Step Ball Chain records blending minimal and tech house with a splash of techno. offering a diverse range of sounds for late-night dancefloors. Side-1 starts with 'Do U Want Me', a playful peak-time house track filled with nostalgic old-school samples and a serious grooveiperfect for keeping the energy up during those late-night sets. It's followed by 'Make Me', which shifts gears into a dubby mix of dubstep and liquid drum 'n' bass, offering a bass-heavy, laid-back vibe. On Side-2, 'Bassy Bits' drives things forward with its fast-paced tech house beats and dirty bassline, making it a DJ-friendly gem designed to shake the dancefloor. Then there's 'Lick My Chain', a deeper, moodier track with a wall-shaking bassline and a futuristic, sensual atmosphereia slick, immersive cut for those looking to bring the energy down but keep the intensity up. Rounding off the EP is the 'Lick My Chain' (PSL remix), which adds a techy edge and a sexy vocal, transforming the track into a late-night anthem. Overall, Step Ball Chain Holland is a versatile release for tech house and electro fans alike.

8Kays & Juan Hansen - "Falling Down" (Chris Avantgarde remix) (6:52)
8Kays - "Lyra" (5:23)
Review: Watergate, the cult Berlin club known for its riverside location and legendary LED ceiling above the dancefloor, is also a reputable tech house label that deals in fresh names only. Here it is 8Kays that makes a debut with Falling Down, a selection of superb collaborations including 'Matematica' with Glowal which is tense and electric tech with indie vocals and with Juan Hansen he cooks up the medically hopeful 'Falling Down' which then gets two remixes. Colyn & Beswerda make it into a moody and deep groove, Chris Avantgarde brings some peak time prog energy and solo cut 'Lyra' has a warm, paddy broken beat to cruise on through the stars.

Review: Slapping up-down tech house via techno from Lviv producer AC130. His debut for the Parisian label Griffe records - 'Destination Unknown', which came out last year - now sees a few more copies hit our shelves. We're bowled over by the Todd Terry-like swing on the A, 'Abduction', while the techier, bell-chimingly charming tones of 'Wireless Talk' and 'Xtra D' zap us with surplus energy, leaving us with a boundless motivation to dance by the time the EP's coldwavey sci-fi closer, 'Pattern Recognition', rolls around.

The Truth (feat Bella Hardcover - acappella) (3:41)
Review: The Kwench label is back with more tasteful and timeless house and techno fusions here as Ad & The Persuader link up for The Truth EP. The title cut opens up with some lazy, wavy, dubby grooves with heady pads and then a dub version makes it even more fleshy and horizontal. 'Strolling' keeps things classy and deep cut with pillowy kicks toped with starry-eyed melodies and some glitchy perc. An cappella closes out the EP for DJ use. This is a quietly excellent 12" that oozes quality.

Review: It's time to head back to Seven Hills for more rolling minimal landscapes, this time thanks to the efforts of David Agrella. The Brixton-based artist has dropped plenty of heat recently on labels like RFXN and AGR and keeps up the fine run of form with this one. 'Deseo' is a tight and dark bumper with warped chords and mysterious pads, then 'Kom Dansen' keeps it deep and moody with heavy and cubby drums and 'Sabotage Signals' layers up glitchy FX, sonorous bells and thudding techno drums which Comp remixes into a nice steady and heads down tech house march.

Review: Naarm-based producer Sam Alfred shows no signs of slowing down as we continue to be impressed by the material coming out of Australia right now. After releasing the energetic 'Suzuka' EP, completing a sold-out headline tour and playing a packed set at MODE Festival, he's now back with more full flavour beats. This one disk off with a real house anthem inspired by 90s club music with punchy piano, airy synths, and a driving cowbell rhythm. 'Care 4 U' has carefree garage house vibes a la salute, 'Keep It' brings some euro dance and trance energy and 'Distance' is a peak-time acid-laced pumper. Brilliant stuff.

Review: Poggio and Gabriel Belabbas' cheeky Positive Future label is back once again to bring some playful mischief to the contemporary electro-techno scene. This split release showcases some of the artists orbiting the label, kicking off in spooky style with Aline Umber's 'Hypnotized', which features a pitched down vocal from Poggio no less. Juaan's 'Talt' is equally steeped in B-movie freakery and tongue-in-cheek samples, while Ramez takes things deeper on bass-toting dirtbag joint 'Devil Selectro'. Plazeg finishes the record off with the scattershot bleep feast 'German Physicist', which has a whale of a time plying its own line in gleefully macabre club music.

It kicks off with the full throttle 'Teacher's with jacked up drums and percussion. 'I'm Your Ghost' then layers in circling acid lines and old school bass while 'I Still Believe' lats the spirits with its trippy synths and sci-fi melodies all bring a subtle sense of party and joy. Review: Rob Amboule makes a compelling debut on Raum... musik with his 'Digerital' EP, offering a fusion of minimal, techno, and progressive trance. The three tracks exhibit Amboule's mature musical ideas and finely tuned production skills, with 'Chairfix' setting expectations with its hypnotic intro morphing into stompy, pulsating techno, evoking a state of rave euphoria and the title track offering a more banging four-to-the-floor techno with atmospheric elements and nods to acid and progressive trance. Closer 'Klenkl', meanwhile, continues the hypno heady grooves and arrangements. Amboule pays homage to the golden age of ravey techno and trance, reinterpreting these genres for modern audiences. Raum... musik's 117th release solidifies its reputation as a quality label for introducing fresh talent and pushing boundaries in electronic music.

Dream Mode (8:56)
Colonel's Measure (6:35)
Redial (7:02)
Review: One of the more pleasing trends of recent times has been the desire to dig into the history of tech-house and deliver reissues of choice singles from the late 1990s, a time when the genre was famed not for glitchy drug-chug but rather far-sighted, sci-fi sounding blends of Motor City techno and deep house. Mark Ambrose's 'Dream Mode' EP, which first landed in stores in 1997, fits this description. The A-side title track fits this description, with deeply spacey pads, intergalactic electronics and drifting, ambient style chord sequences riding a warming, sub-heavy bassline and rolling techno-not-techno drums. Over on the B-side, 'Colonel's Measure' is a hypnotic and breathless chunk of minor-key tech-funk of the sort that Dave Angel used to release in the late '90s, while 'Redial' sounds like an aquatic tech-house take on early '90s bleep & bass.

Review: Dave Anderson is a name as prosaic as his music is not. The man has been away for some 15-odd years now but before that drew praise from those who should know such as Carl Craig as one half of Otomi. His skills have not diminished while he has been away as he shows here with a quartet of new cuts on Floodplain. 'Downstairs Groove' is winky and loopy tech with a tribal twist, 'Distant Signal' layer sup analogue drums and woody hits with wispy cosmic leads and 'Edge Damage' is warming, rushing Detroit techno soul. 'Square Dance' is a rhythmic shuffle with pinging bass and cute melodies. Welcome back, Dave.

Review: The Hyperdrive label is back with a third outing which once again offers up some exciting and forward-thinking new artists. Anderson's 'Sweet Psylow' kicks off with some psychedelic synth loops over crisp tech house drums that hark back to the 90s prog heyday. HearThuG's 'Back To The Future' is a darker sound with whistles, snappy snares and eerie chords and Luis Malon & Seb G then combine for the bouncing techno rhythms and acid-laced pads of 'Extasis Nebular.' Last but not least, Jamie Leather's 'Strange Commodities' is a surging cosmic techno trip with dynamic drums and perc and majestic leads. This is another fine release from this young label.

Review: Pressure Traxx secures the sounds of acclaimed minimal master and Romanian mainstay Dan Andrei on this fine new 12", Clockworks. The title track opens up and is coarse and rich in texture, with slapping hits taking centre stage while languid guitars slowly garner your attention. 'Theme For What' is another unusual one, this time with trippy melodies and tumbling drum loops, while 'Geek Groove Odyssey' layers up pulsing bass and bleeping sonar synths into a serene cosmic trip. 'Out Of Mood' is another tense tech cut with edgy synths keeping you in suspense as the dark drums march on.

Review: The cult Pillz label returns hot on the heels of a sold-out 12" last time around. For their next drop, they welcome Argentinian talent Stefano Andriezzi who is known for bringing great colour to his beats. This 'Elektronico' EP showcases his skill with four tracks that explore diverse underground moods with take cues from ravey electro, techno and hints of house. 'Elektronico' opens with turbocharged pads and bass making of an upright and urgent future tech house beat. 'Raves Weekend' is more fluid with a bouncing bassline and old-school rave sirens to get things going and 'Acid Computer' then pairs things back to a lovely organ line and 90s house vibe with colourful daubs of synth. 'Get Fanki' shuts down with a nice fist-pumping thump.

Review: Behind The Mask's second release comes from Lorenzo Aribone, the man behind the label and someone with a sound that draws on a range of house and techno styles. The A-side kicks off with 'Again', a low slung and sleazy sound with warped basslines. 'Question' is an eerie, spacious sound with pulsing rhythms and dubby low ends then 'Fog' brings more raw percussion and insistent grooves. Last of all is 'Stone,' a heavy, marching house sound with hints of intergalactic synth work and razor sharp drums that keep you upright. Another fine offering from this young imprint.

Review: Behind The Mask is a brand new label from Lorenzo Aribone who sets out its sonic vision by taking care of the very first release. He uses it as an opportunity to show his range as he traverses the spectrum from techno to house and back again. 'Dfloor' is stiff industrial tech with bleeps and squeaks and metal hits. 'Mask Off' then brings some acid modulations and fizzing synth stabs that very much make for a futuristic tech house sound. He doesn't let up on the flip with 'I Show You' churning up ghoulish vocals and tough drum funk and last of all is 'Secret' which gets all punchy and tripped out and is just the sort of thing Craig Richards might play.

Review: 'Finally In Orbit' is the cathartic new three-track EP from Aniara Records mainstay Arkajo. A technoized ode to the unobservable universe, our first listens to the project hear us plunged into an informative yet sinister lecture (presumably sampled from a Carl Sagan talk, given the title 'Sagan'), backed by quirky cosmic knocks and lower undulations - like infrasonic waves transmitted across the galaxy. Follow-uppers 'Mostly Harmless' and 'Finally I'm In Orbit' carry a similar mood of stoic wonder, with the latter in particular being the most textural and hypnotic.

Review: Cologne label Mephis/Monevido continues to be pushing some of the freshest acid and tech house around as they welcome Artesano Titer and B22 for a split 12" of dazzling late night sonics. Titer's 'Free Fall From Space' is an expert exercise in layered up 303 snake charming, while 'An Unexpected Arrival' locks into a lowdown groove with brain-tweaking modulation running up top. B22 kick off the B-side with a bleep-informed dose of acid from the dark side and some downright nasty groove action kicking off on 'Make You Free', with an instantly recognisable sample from an LFO classic thrown in for good measure.

Review: Ralph Lawsons'20/20 Vision label has done a fine job of evolving and re-emerging after its 20th anniversary and is now serving up cutting edge sounds from fresh new artists once more. It has done plenty of good work in the world of electro recently but here it goes back to deep house from a fine rabble of artists. There is a slick bump n funk to the opener before warped cosmic tones and neon colours define the speedy deep techno of Harrison BDP's 'Dirty Mochyn.' On the flip are some more of those breezy Adam Pits beats and Keisuke's 'OK Taiko' then brings an early, percussive house vibe that takes us back to late 80s Chicago.

Review: 2020 marks the 30th anniversary of Allen "Aubrey" Saei's first 12" release as Panic. Because of this, it seems a fitting time for the long-serving techno producer to return with his first solo single for two years. He begins by wrapping delay-laden synth stabs and tipsy chords around a heavyweight bassline and crunchy machine drums on 'Sleeze Funk', before further exploring dub-tinged alien techno pastures on the similarly impressive 'Break'. B-side opener 'Jazz Sunrise' expertly combines driving drums and insanely weighty bass with drowsy deep house chords and jazzy synth flourishes, while 'Buddy's Groove' is on off-key trip into strange (but brilliant) loop-house/deep techno fusion.

Review: Berlin-based Italian producer Audri has been scattering his smart, fine-tuned machine soul across a handful of labels over the past four years. Picking up the thread from the emotive and inventive end of the 90s techno spectrum, his latest drop on Albion should appeal to all those who can't get enough of that B12-flavoured sound. 'Inner Movement' sports plenty of classic Motor City influences, but given a crisp modern finish. 'Dizzy Freq' has a deeper demeanour that jacks and jives in equal measure, with a nod to the formative sound of bleep techno. Domenica Rosa delivers a fun and freaky twist on the original, before the legendary Titonton Duvante dubs things out nicely on his version of 'Inner Movement'.

AV1 goes first with the crispy metal drums and warped synths of 'Meta2' then Fsk24 & Felix Dulac combine for the hammering tech-funk of 'Un Eclair Dans La Nuit' which would have been a Tyrant classic back in the day. Babylon X takes a richly melodic approach which fuses big synth pads and sweet 303 lines with a smart, pulsing drop for a proper gear shift when you want to lock a crowd in even deeper. Asphalt DJ & Gzardin have a whale of a time with the punchy, pumping pressure of 'Sweaty Ride' while MYKI & Matris keep it turned up to the peak time with a catchy, vocal-speckled workout. For our ears though you need to make sure you check Tantra Motion's dreamy 'To U', which tips over towards heady machine soul for the subtler corners of a set.

They are calling themselves Bass Cab and their vibe is, going off this first EP, classic early 90s analogue techno with live dub versions. 'G2' is a silky and frictionless dub that is as smooth as glass and perfect to get lost in. 'Lofi' has dusty deep house aesthetics with a lovely muted lead synth that voyages at its own pace through the cosmos. 'Dub Chords' brings a mix of twitchy synths, reverb, bouncing drums and rubbery bass.

Review: Rising Boorloo artist Beltrac shows why he is so well thought of here with five tracks that deliver a dynamic collision of sleek, dub-infused minimal rollers reminiscent of the late '90s and early 2000s tech-house but paired with high-energy drum-driven explorations. After the bubbly synths of 'Tek Code' comes the more direct and crisp 'VIP Section (Otherworld mix)', then Side B features a standout remix of 'Echo Response' by Eora's dub master Command D who transforms the wonky bassline of the original into a hazy, after-hours dub techno gem. The meticulous production really elevates these irresistible grooves.

Review: Ali Berger has long been known for crafting soulful, dynamic house music whether through his label Trackland or releases on Spectral Sound, Clave House, Firm Tracks, and FCR. He also performs solo or with Davis Galvin as Hits Only when his unique touch always remains evident. This new 12" features four tracks that blend uplifting and introspective house vibes and it oozes class. Opener 'Sun Rising On Harmony' boasts an infectious bass line and melody, while 'Inside,' offers a classic acid house feel. On the B-side, you have the lovely 'Thoughts Like Light Snow' which delivers an alluring electro twist, while 'Mint Leaf' closes with a rich bass line and intricate details.
